The grounds are fantastic and the staff were lovely. The drinks were quite pricey but lovely.
The sad thing is everything is beautiful apart from the breakfast it was un edible and that was for both myself and my husband it was awful. I would not recommend eating at the hotel.
The character and beautiful grounds
The staff and food
We were returning to celebrate our 25th Wedding Anniversary, having spent our Wedding night at Tylney Hall but all those years ago we arrived late after our wedding reception - didn't want to leave such a good party! - near midnight - it was raining and after breakfast - again damp and wet - we left to meet our wedding guests for lunch back where we'd had our reception and then fly out on our honeymoon. So we really didn't see much of the hotel. This time we enjoyed every aspect of our stay from the genuine sincere welcome, being upgraded to the most beautiful room Lady C with the stunning views. Having been out exploring for the afternoon, we returned to the most delicious dinner that evening with attentive and friendly staff - Nilufer Sonkaya especially, who'd taken our booking earlier and then looked after us along with her team. We loved the luxurious lounge of velvet for coffee & liqueurs afterwards and hit jackpot getting the most perfect table by chance for breakfast the next morning, enjoying a similar sweeping view as our room above with again, fresh, well sourced ingredients and therefore a most delicious breakfast - I had the continental buffet and my husband chose from the menu. All so pleasant and special. We enjoyed wandering around the grounds after breakfast and on discovering the outdoor swimming pool decided to stay and read the papers. We checked out but were given a key to enjoy relaxing around the pool for an hour in the sun, then a soft drink in the luxurious velvet lounge again before setting off for home. It felt like we'd been away a week instead of just the night/two days! Every staff member we came in contact with couldn't have been nicer, especially reception. It was all we could have hoped for and more! So pleased we returned - even if it was so long afterwards ! - and hope its not as long before we treat ourselves to another luxurious break at Tylney Hall.
Beautiful
It needs renovation
Beautiful grounds and relaxing atmosphere.
Property was excellent but the food portions were meagre for the price.
Amazing grounds and beautiful buildings
Very tired, needs work and the staff need to be trained better
The service of the staff was excellent. The grounds were so beautiful, we really enjoyed our morning walk. Our room was so clean & we really enjoyed dinner.
The kids were swimming even though hours were posted for adults only. Their parents let them splash and cannonball which was disruptive.
The grounds, the outdoor pool and sauna, breakfast, friendly staff
Food and drink in restaurant is good but overpriced and the atmosphere in the dining hall is a bit stuffy
Hotel was good all round. Spa is a bit of a stretch in terms of the actual facilities on site. Sauna is a single use so not able to enjoy.
The atmosphere was dull. Could do with a bit of a shake up. Food menu needs some inspiration. Bring a choice of sandwiches to the lunchtime menu.
Lovely facility, clean with friendly and polite staff. the overall environment is cozy and lovely. Food is great, the outdoor pool is well maintained. The areas around the hotel are wonderful and peaceful.
Prices at the bar are quite high
Large bedrooms, comfortable beds, fans provided in rooms, great food, fantastic staff and lovely location
Showers in our room not great (33) - variable pressure, really difficult to climb over a tall bath side .. need disability access
Tylney has always been a special treat for myself and my late partner. Spent many a time enjoying various events, milestones and functions over the last 20 years, I am sure this lovely hotel will continue to be a superb venue for the future.
Leaving the hotel!!
Great outdoor and indoor pool. My daughter loved the gardens and ponds. Great breakfast !
Almost zero mobile signal so impossible to phone landlines or receive texts if you need 2 factor authentication to access apps or accounts. Unbelievable in 2026 but I understand planning restrictions leave the UK with one of the worse mobile service networks in the world.
The professionalism and friendliness of the staff. Beautiful setting.

Well maintained grounds Exceptionally helpful staff Good facilities Lovely breakfast
Lounge food was poor quality and incredibly over priced. I appreciate it's not the main restaurant but there's no excuse for serving shop bought oven pizzas and charge £20 for the privilege.
Very luxurious . Great pools . Felt quite Grand Staff were extremely good - every single one of them ! Food was excellent .
No lift - but that’s the only negative
Cooked options were excellent. Would have liked a more varied fresh fruit option eg fresh fruit salad or compost.
Air conditioning in our room. Better headroom . My husband is over 6 foot so being in a room in the eaves was difficult.
Nice hotel and gardens
Our room was absolutely roasting hot, they had the radiators on in the bathrooms had to get them turned off. They supply fans but they are little to no good. Went as a family all struggled to sleep. If I knew the rooms were as hot as they were we wouldn’t have stayed. Swimming pool was dirty. Pillows has stains on them. Overall not impressed
Het ontbijt was heel goed met een ruime keuze voor ieder wat wils.
Prijs-kwaliteit: we hadden een ruime kamer, maar deze was verouderd alsook de badkamer.
Stunning hotel, lovely grounds and outdoor pool
Service in restaurants was terrible. Long wait food with mains arriving about 10:30 to late to eat. No aircon in bedrooms
Breakfast was good and the location is beautiful.
I was expecting a better room and I had to wait more than 1/2 an hour for my food to arrive at the main restaurant.
A beautiful, classy and very comfortable hotel in an amazing location.

Lovely hotel and grounds. Will return. But drink prices too high. £6 for a can of coke and £19 for a pimms is too high.
Drinks prices too high. No consistency in size of tea. Paid £6 for a large pot of tea for 2 on first day. On second day we were charged £12. We should be refunded the £6. Interested to see if hotel contact me.
Amazing setting. Truly relaxing
No aircon in the room
Very good. Our 3rd to this hotel.
It’s lovely, beautiful surroundings
Prices are very high, you pay the same at Ritz central London for a meal
Beautiful location
Pool was closed for some time and then when re-opened the whole day was kids allowed (we booked because of the adult only hours). Room wasn’t ready for over an hour after stated check in time and then was very underwhelming. Food at the restaurant took well over an hour. Staff were clearly extremely stressed and remained kind in the circumstances but it wasn’t exactly the spa retreat we’d hoped for.
The outside pool is amazing and the gardens are beautiful. Our room was lovely and clean and a very comfortable bed.
The Hotel seemed seriously understaffed. I waited 10 minutes at the bar for someone to appear and we waited 45 minutes from ordering breakfast for it to arrive. At dinner, our bread order was forgotten and came out in the middle of our main course.
the breakfast was an hour late in the balcony in a hotel needs cleaning it's filthy for the money you are paying for

Super stay. Lovely quiet room, as requested, all staff very helpful. Comfy bed, great pool.
A tiny niggle - getting served drinks on the terrace was a tad slow, but not a problem!
The hotel is old-worldly with oak panels and beautifully elegant decor and all set in a great big country estate - very imposing and stunning. Staff were pleasant and helpful, this is especially true of the dining room, bar area/lounge and Reception, it was 10/10 service with nothing too much trouble. The grounds of the hotel are extensive and lovely - despite the current drought. We found a circular walking route, about 5 miles in total and this was a great thing to do, stopping off at the Old House at Home pub for a late lunch which was 10/10. The pool before 10am is adults only, so it was gorgeous, serene and quiet and exactly what one wanted - after 10am it is a very different experience, as expected with children on their school holidays.
It is true that some of the hotel is in need of updating, for example no standard plug sockets near the bed which is annoying for phone charge needs and also to have the fan near the bed. There are lots of room options and we didn't see any others, perhaps others are more modern. There is no in-room aircon, but not unexpected for a UK hotel, a fan was provided. Around the pool, more staff are needed, to clear away cups, glasses and used discarded towels. There were never any fresh towels, we had to find a member of staff and then wait a while once we had asked. There was a queue at the drinks hut. All the dining room food menus are good, but a little more consideration for those that are gluten-free would be ideal - for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Sadly, I was brought a very lovely GF roll for my dinner soup but turns out is was not GF and I had a bad stomach for 2 hours. Thankfully I am not celiac, I just have a very bad reaction when I eat wheat.
Facilities & Staff Excellent
Breakfast was average
Tolle, beeindruckende Parkanlage, imposantes Gebäude Aus 1700! Salon mit traumhafter Kassettendecke… Nette beheizte Poolanlage
Overall, a very nice experience. The natural surroundings and the location are amazing for a weekend escape. The staff were very helpful, and the historic building, palace and gardens are beautiful.
The rooms and some of the facilities could benefit from renovation and more thorough cleaning. The spa and sauna areas also look a bit dated and would benefit from a refresh.
Lovely setting.
Nothing
relaxing location in the countryside
Staff service was not good from reception, pool or breakfast. I spent 10minutes trying to get through to recepetion/bar and porter on phone to get some ice to my room. I called reception the morning of my check out 5:45am for someone to take my bags, and no answer, despite someone being on desk when I went down 5 minutes later.
Så mäktig miljö, väldigt trevlig och professionell personal. Väl värt ett besök!
Vi var där när det var varmt och saknade AC men normalt är det säkert inget problem.
Pools,great grounds
Rooms very hot, and stuffy food and drink is extremely expensive for the level of the hotel,
Staying at Tylney hall is like staying in an Agatha Christie novel - it’s beautiful, the grounds are beautiful , the pool was divine. I’d booked it as a luxury weekend away and it was.
We were in the courtyard , which was the cheaper end. The receptionist advised us to walk through the whole hotel , which was up and down stairs with suitcases. It would have been simpler to tell us to move our car round the back where we could just walk in to the property. Maybe they wanted us to see the luxury rooms we couldn’t afford. The breakfast was nice , but if the menus says ‘sausages’ on your ‘full English breakfast’ I expect more than one tiny little picnic sausages, likewise ‘hash browns’ one tiny 10 pence piece of potato does not constitute ‘browns’ - especially as the breakfast was very expensive. Also its was 30C the weekend we stayed and radiators were on in the dining room.
The whole estate was amazing. I couldn't get over the amount of land, water and wildlife. It was awe-inspiring. Defo return for this alone. Loved the mansion, its history and ambience. The staff were lovely, caring and interested in us and our stay.
Room - Some of the elements were disappointing. The shower didn't function properly, not a good flow. One of the armchairs had a broken leg. The fan segments were covered in layers of dust. There was some type of extractor outside our room that ran until the early hours. We were only there for a couple of nights so didn't bother saying anything until we left. Food. Dinner booked the first night in the restaurant. However, though we liked the starter, we couldn't find anything on the menu my hubby (whose birthday treat the stay was) could eat for a main meal. We checked the Lounge menu and found a chicken dish. We were informed that we could not eat in the restaurant if we chose any dish off the lounge menu - seriously? We had to obtain the chef's permission to have the restaurant starter in the lounge instead. I wasn't impressed eating my (expensive) meal off my designer dress lap as I couldn't reach the coffee table even leaning forward. Breakfast Wasn't impressive either. Orange juice tasted like dilute concentrate, I ordered the John Ross Salmon, two poached eggs on an English muffin. Didn't expect to only be given half of a muffin. One that had recently come out of the freezer at that. It was still hard, cold and white inside, despite being toasted. Surely two eggs warrant one muffin at least? My husband wasn't impressed with his two poached eggs on toast with mushrooms either. Toasted wasn't buttered. Mushrooms, turned out to be ONE mushroom approx. 3.5cms wide. cold, and hardly cooked. The following day, I ordered the same dish without muffin and toasted and buttered my own bread and my husbands. Disappointed that despite not being busy, we waited almost 40 mins for the meal. By the then toast was cold. Guests at our neighbouring table reported they hade been waiting even longer.
I booked a mansion room as a surprise for my son & partner to celebrate his birthday. We were offered a complimentary upgrade. I booked a table at the Oak Room restaurant as it gets busy. The suite given was a lovely surprise but please see below. Meal at the restaurant was enjoyable, the presentation of the food, amazing. They enjoyed breakfast, lovely selection.
You do not expect poor admin/communication at Tylney Hall? Upon booking in my son was told no record of my booking, which was all paid. Only way staff traced it was due to my son mentioning I had booked a mansion room. It was stressful. Similarly the Oak Room restaurant reservation of 7.30pm I booked, had confirmed. A dismissive member of staff told them no record of booking. They did eat but their table had to be ready by 8.30pm. Imagine if you booked an anniversary meal and that happened! Im so upset this happened as it sullied what should have been a lovely stay. I just do not understand. I suspect when the upgrade was given due to hot weather that details were not transferred over.
Staff are very professional and attentive. The hotel is beautiful and very clean and tidy.
Old and unique
The outdoor pool and pool bar were great in the hot weather.
Noisy gardeners and other guests early in the morning. The manager argued when we complained about the mess made by the garden staff over our car. Like warm food at dinner.
Beautiful location & stunning grounds and gardens. Excellent customer service - very friendly. Broad range of different types of accommodation.
Wifi was a bit patchy
Beautiful and so relaxing
Too many hours for children in the pool when you wanted to relax. That’s my only criticism
I enjoyed absolutely everything about my stay. The only thing that could have improved it would've been more nights. This hotel is beyond stunning; it's enchanting. The gardens are breathtaking and immaculately maintained. The hotel itself is beautiful and characterful. My room was enormous with a very comfortable bed. I can only imagine the parties that would have been held at Tylney Hall in the 20s! I came for a birthday party so didn’t use the restaurant apart from for breakfast (which was delicious) but will be back for a weekend to sample the full delights of the hotel, including the outdoor pool! This is the most beautiful and charming hotel I've ever stayed in.
The fact that I couldn't stay longer.
Outstanding gardens, overall friendly personnel, good quality food and drinks
Hair found on bathroom mat; excessive room service charges; single child's bed had exposed metal corner on which my son cut himself; mattresses seem to be very dated and soft; the carpets on the ground floor in the main building need a clean/replacing
Beautiful, calm serene and relaxing
Bed was very very hard
The location, swimming pool area, the grounds
The food for dinner wasn’t what I expected for the price
The hotel and grounds are beautiful, the staff are exceptional in everything they do . The evening meal was superb and thoroughly enjoyed my stay. I really enjoyed the junior suite which as spacious and the bed was so comfortable. The tower fan made all the difference on these warmer nights.
I enjoyed my stay and there wasn't anything I didn't enjoy
A lot of well trained staff. Very courteous.
Very expensive drinks! £21.50 for Aperol Spritz!!
Beautiful stately home hotel. Rooms very comfortable, good size, beautifully decorated. Outdoor and indoor pool both heated. Tennis courts, bikes free to use. Stunning gardens with so much to explore. Great for families.
Very understaffed - both at reception and in the bar/lounge/restaurant, also young poorly trained staff, waited a very long time to be served and for food to be served - really not good enough given the price of the food and drink is extremely expensive (£11 glass of wine, £6 tub of ice cream, £7 portion of chips etc.). Also felt that the atmosphere around the pool was not welcoming to children despite there being designated family swim times people were frowning at us for just being children and making noise when having fun - other families commented the same thing - dont state the hotel is family friendly on the website if it is not. Finally whilst having bikes available was great half of them were broken and not enough were available - when we went to use them they had all gone!
The best part of the hotel were the grounds which very fabulous 👍
Unfortunately we had our dog with us it’s not really dog friendly and breakfast on Sunday was very busy and not great standard 😒
The amenities were great like the pool
When by the pool it took over an hour to even order food or a drink, considering the drinks were £18 each I would have thought a member of staff serving at all times would be very profitable. The food was cold once arrived. When eating on the terrace the steak was well below par considering it was billed as a good steak for £38. Trying to find staff was impossible we spent most of our time looking for someone and when we found them they were hiding on there phone. The only time a member of staff would find us in the bar or by the pool was to tell us the bar/pool was closing so we couldn’t order anything. Terrible service and considering what they charge very very disappointing.
Tylney Hall was incredible from arrival to leaving. The outside pool is an absolute bonus. The facilities are great. The grounds are exceptional.
The price of drinks was very over priced.
Incredible location
Facilities are good outdoor pool was lovely. Room was very nice. Restaurant was also lovely.
Ac in room would be nice. Think drinks are very expensive at the bar with a mandatory service charge on top.
Location. Grounds well kept. Lots of places to walk around.
Nothing

The house and gardens are beautiful
The staff seemed totally overwhelmed by the number of guests. The decor in our luxury three room suite, and indeed, all of the public rooms, was sad and depressing 1970s THERE IS NO AIR-CONDITIONING ANYWHERE IN THE HOTEL AND FOR $1000 A NIGHT THAT IS INEXCUSABLE A lovely swimming pool had 125 people in it or around the small enclosure making it perfect for a kids birthday party hoopla. Chaos.
The grounds are absolutely gorgeous, it's a haven of peace and tranquility. Lovely staff, really nice outdoor pool, respectful guests all around, even the kids by the pool were kept quiet. Decent breakfast, lovely outdoor bar and terrace for a casual evening meal. Love that we got upgraded to a suite. Good value for money on the overnight bed and breakfast.
The hotel is a little "tired" on the inside, the doors, windows and carpets all feel really ancient. Probably what makes the price of the overnight stay affordable. The room was done up with a fresh carpet and bathroom however. The drinks were very pricey at the poolside (21GBP for a aperol spritz, £15 for a coffee and tea in takeaway cups). We didn't love having two single mattresses stuck together.
Bellissima location, colazione accurata
Scarsa attenzione nel rifare la camera
It was beautiful respectfully restored house. The rooms were well appointed.
Some elements could have done with some work. I pointed these out to a member of staff and I’m sure she will make sure they are actioned.
So beautiful wonderful walks and stunning gardens
Very much so
History and facilities
We came by bike and were given space in a garage to keep them a little more secure (for anybody reading this and thinking of bringing expensive bikes, note that the garage was unlocked so check before you book). Grounds still lovely. Swimming pools good. Staff polite.
In the room: Bathroom sink hot tap seized, power extension lead not working, coffee machine leaks hot water while in use. It seems unlikely that all these things failed for the first time during our stay and the attitude of the person when I reported this on checkout was dismissive It took three requests to get decaf coffee pods for the room General feeling that maintenance is being skimped (compared to last time we stayed) The poor sauna (a two-man box in the men's changing room) and no steam room or cold plunge/shower is inadequate for a place that markets itself as a spa hotel
Breakfast was good
Service in the bar for food was really slow and also food was not good value
Breakfast and dinner were superb. Staff very attentive.
no swimming costume spinner one could be placed in the changing rooms. No shower in pool area or water machines.
Beautiful period property with amazing garden to walk around. Had a great stay stay with our newborn. Very family friendly. Lots of families with kids, babies and expectant families
No air on in the room
It’s and old hotel with character Lovely gardens
Needs a lot of TLC
Beautiful inside and out. The grounds are stunning.
Was asked to move rooms because there was not a fan working in my room. The room I was put in was not as nice and I had to ask for a fridge. Hairdryer broke and the replacement that I was given had a European plug. On the first night I went for a meal and mid meal I went outside to get some fresh air, because it was so hot and when I came back, my place had been cleared, including my wine!
Really beautiful grounds and the staff are lovely.
The food at supper was not great unfortunately.
Staff were friendly and attentive. Dinner was excellent as were the surroundings.
Inside pool area needs some tlc. As we were only there for one night, it was a little frustrating not to be able yo use the outside pool in the morning. Schedule says opens at 8am but due to treatment it didn't open till 10am. Minor irritation overall. We could have done with more milk pods in the room but guessing they would have been provided I we'd asked.
- Magnificent location - Peaceful
- Room and facilities (indoor and outdoor pool) a bit tired - No air conditioning in the room - No mini bar in the room - One of the 2 days we’ve been there we had the feeling the place was understaffed as there were many dirty plates, glasses around and no staff to collect orders or clean the tables - Standard breakfast
Big rooms and beautiful scenery
Staff members were not friendly
