Son Thoi Homestay

Good environment (the house / phòng dorm) and location (near river). Recommend leaving at sunrise and walking to sapa via small roads. One day is enough to explore nearby areas like waterfall(s), valley mountain, rice/corn fields, hmong houses (they often try to sell you stuff but can just chat)

The area is very turisty/ many places overpriced, but easy to find peaceful areas too. I'm really interested in minority culture and language but couldn't connect well as the woman didn't say a word even if i used simple Vietnamese to ask. The man was very caring though, helped with clothes, but I couldn't really help in daily routine. No food was provided, had to go out to eat, the phở place has good 40k meals. The relatives nextdoor seemed to have meals (not very cheap, tried to ask about it also directly but got menu too late).

There was a big miscommunication from the place/owner to us. We received a message saying that the breakfast was included and also there was a menu clarifying it. We did have it for the four days we stayed and when we were leaving and paid for the accommodation, they asked us to pay for breakfast too. We refused at first but then we decided to pay anyways even tho we shouldn't have, the owners attitude changed completely towards us, like if we had stolen anything from her. Ending up in her being disrespectful to us, making the whole good first experience into a place we would not choose to come back to. We respected the place and they were disrespectful. Nothing more to say.

The local family was the highlight of our trip, they are such a lovely family. One night we had dinner with them, and they invited us to join a celebration at the grandparents house. The room was perfect, and great value for money. I would come back here over and over again. Perfect

Все было отлично, очень заботливая хозяйка, словно побывали у родных в гостях. Заказывали здесь ужин за 200000 донгов просто объелись на троих. В стоимость входит ещё и завтрак вполне неплохой. Конечно нужно понимать что удобство здесь самые простые, все таки это не отель, но для ночёвки во время трекинга отличный вариант. За такую цену никаких недостатков не нашли.

I was the only guest at the place the night I spent there. The owners were friendly and helpful. There is a nice trek starting from the house along the river nearby, I walked down around 2km on that. I slept very well for many hours and the mosquito net shield is a bonus. The dinner offered to me for 100k was really tasty and different from most I ate in Vietnam. The welcome tea was a nice gesture!

The difficulty of communicating in English makes the whole experience less authentic than it is supposed to be at a homestay, I learnt nothing about the customs and the habits of the local people.

I had one of the best meals I’ve ever eaten, all made from scratch by them. The next night I asked if I could help cook and learn and they let me. Then we ate the meal with their extended family and friends. They let me wash my clothes, using their facilities. They were so lovely. The area is right in the bottom of the valley from which you can do so many amazing day walks up into the mountains through the other little villages There were only 5 other guests that stayed there over my 4 nights so you may not meet as many travellers while you stay here.

Son and Thoi are great hosts. It was a pleasure to cook with them our dinner a have drinks with their friends. The neighbour was speaking both English and Vietnamese, easing the conversation.

The family hosting were lovely and very welcoming, they invited us to join them for breakfast on a day of celebration. The property is easy to find and only located a couple minutes away from some good bars and restaurants, in particular Trang Coffee & Bamboo Bar.

Nothing - really worth it if you are looking for cheap accommodation

Leaving the central of sapa to this small village is my best decision. Mrs Thoi and mr Son are the best hosts. They treat you with all hospitality they have and everything in their house. Its not promised that you will have a “professional” service with fancy decoration but an authentic local life is right here. btw the neighbor dogs are really cute and gentle. The home is next to a stream and paddie field so you can have a great view whenever you want. Thanks Sơn Thời so much you guys left in me an unforgettable memories in my trip to all over Vietnam

Amazing local family, super friendly and welcoming. If you are looking for a real local experience, this is the place for you. The owners have a small farm, with vegetables, chickens and pigs, it was really an amazing experience. The room was very comfy. Chi Thoi (the owners wife) checked in on us every day, asking what she can do to give us a better time at their family house. It was just lovely to experience this family. The homestay is close to the river, so in the evening you can see a beautiful sunset over the Fansipan mountain. I can recommend this to everyone looking for an authentic local experience. The homestay was perfect for what I was looking for. 1 cheap bed with breakfast included, located in a peaceful and semi remote area. Besides the language barriers, I was able to communicate with the owners, which are very local and super kind. I definitely recommend this place if you are travelling on a budget trip and you want to have a close local experience with the people living in this village. I arrived here in the early afternoon, and I spent a few hours at the river recovering from the ha giang loop. Had a great sleep. The only thing I was able to hear was the sound of the river.
