Spacious, friendly and in perfect location
Fridge in bedroom was the only thing missing
Ideal location close to all amenities, it has on site parking with no charges. The hotel is a beautiful building with fabulous surroundings with lots of wildlife. Staff were exceptional. Food was great.
All the communal areas of the hotel are at a high standard and a modern design. All areas are exceptionally clean. Staff are very friendly and welcoming 😁 The grounds to the hotel are well kept and we had a beautiful view from our bedroom window. The facilities in the bedroom were adequate, plenty of tea, coffee, milk and sugar. The bedroom and bathroom were also very clean. The breakfast was buffet style and it was very good, the waiting staff were very attentive. Overall a great stay.
The bedroom was a little tired and could do with some tlc.
De service verlening van het hotel was heel goed.
Niets
It’s like a country house hotel but easily able to access the town on foot
Not keen on shower curtain would prefer a screen
The location was excellent and only a short walk to the centre of keswick. Free car parking is a massive benefit , when stopping in Keswick
There isn't anything to dislike. Staff at reception were welcoming. Staff in the restaurant were attentive and professional. Plenty of choice for dinner and breakfast. Plenty of hot drink sachets in the room. Beds were very comfortable - great night sleep.
N/A
staff all very helpful and friendly
There are areas of the hotel that are looking a little tired and need maintenance/redecoration in the near future. It was known at reception that we were celebrating our Golden Wedding during our stay and it would have been nice if a small recognition had been made (e.g. bottle of wine in our room)
Location, food and public spaces.
Corridors need updating and decorating.
Very good location on edge of town and for exploring the area too. Excellent breakfasts and evening meals when we ate there rather than in town. Free parking a bonus too. Old fashioned/traditional but overall very pleasant.
The fact that on the third floor where our room was the water was basically turned off every night between around 11pm and 6.30 am ! Appeantly due to the pumping system being too noisy ! No one at the hotel told us until we discoverd this for ourselves so no washing or loo flushing possible between those hours ! Seems ridiculous and un-neccesary !
Beautiful hotel, fantastic food, friendly staff.
The room was clean however very dated. The carpets and curtains need replacing and the furniture needs updating. The bathroom needs a walk in shower as it was difficult to get in and out of the bath. However the rooms were large and very clean.
Location stayed here before
Good comfortable beds and room Handy location. Excellent helpful staff
Hotel would benefit from updating the decor in public areas and befrooms. However I appreciate slightly dated decor means a cheaper price than elsewhere
Position.
Buffet breakfast. View from window. Rusty tube Price
Nice old traditional hotel. Friendly staff and good location.
Bit tired rooms. No sockets or usb near the beds. Flashing fire alarm all night (all like that, not battery apparently)
Everything was absolutely brilliant
Loved everything
Lovely few days away!, very good staff, breakfast very good! Will return another time soon,
Only a small minus, little bits of decorating need patching, making good! Corridors to station rooms need brightening up! Other wise lovely!
All was very good Location ,staff ,food and public areas Excellent stay and always felt comfortable
We did not have any problems
Food and location are exceptional. Staff so efficient - have stayed 37 years in 5 star Hotels in Switzerland and they are in the same league - from Chambermaid, Reception, Restaurant staff and of course the chefs. Stay twice a year, enjoy the quiet of the grounds yet central adjacent to the Park. Adjacent to the 'Railway Walk' and enjoyed the view of Latrigg from our room window, but Room 303 overlooking the gardens is our favourite. Now counted 20 rabbits in the gardens - including 'Trevor' who disguises himself in the patio pots nibbling away!
Rained every day but intermittent enough not to spoil our walking - it is the Lake District afterall.
Beautiful hotel
A little sad. Needs a up lift
Great location
Nothing
Breakfast was good, although I feel people who have coeliac disease and other allergies should be served from the kitchen rather than use the buffet.
Its a bit tired in places, i understand its a very big old building but there are areas which need redecoration.
Location and parking where great
Room was a bit dated .
Bed breakfast and dinner package was superb.
Intermittent humming of water pump on 3rd floor.
friendly staff, good large lounge areas and garden
inability of old windows and building to cope with hot weather. Room was like a sauna
Nothing to dislike. Food location and staff all excellent
Great location, lovely staff and grounds
Beds very uncomfortable. Upstairs and the rooms are very dated and in need of upgrade.
Everything. Also on this visit the lift was out of order so we were given a suite on the first floor.
Nothing
Lovely character hotel in great location
Location
Looking tired
Highlight the rooms leading off reception and bar area I liked the location and grounds of the property
Unfortunately in the bar area I found that the staff was more important talking to each another than to their customers this is a pity as in the restaurant area I found the staff completely different again and same on reception
Very comfortable lounges to relax in
Stairs after getting out of lift. Bath far too narrow
Location Food Staff Beds
Needed refreshed in lift stairs and bedrooms
Close to town
Climb over bath ti shower
Very relaxing building in a quiet location but only a short walk to facilities and busy areas. Free carpark
Vegetarian breakfast options not clear
Location is great, very friendly staff
The room was excellent clean spacious and modern the breakfast was 1st class
It was in a good location and the public areas were good
The corridors leading to our room were in a poor state of repair , wallpaper hanging off the ceiling , dirty carpets , paint chips all over .
Very basic, dated and tired
Room nice n clean, the bed was very comfortable & it was nice and quiet very peaceful. All staff was exceptional friendly and courteous.
I was happy with everything to be honest, Thank you
The bed was clean and comfortable and the location was ideal. Also having parking is always a plus.
We felt we didn’t get the room we had booked, it was extremely dated and a lot of the furniture is in need of a refurb.
Excelle location. Stayed here several times before. Excellent breakfasts and evening meals very good too.
We booked a deluxe double room with garden & mountain views.plus a room with a walk in shower. What we got was a view of the car park at the front of the hotel. No garden or mountain view. I could have booked Tescos car park view & with more cars. Apparently the room we got was the only one they could do for all our 3 night stay with a walk in shower. Otherwise we could have 2 nights in a room with the views & shower request but the 3rd night would mean moving to the room overlooking the car park & keeping the walk in shower. Why were we not told long before they confirmed the booking? Is this what they call customer satisfaction these days at the Keswick. Also, the rabbits who love the lawns at the Keswick and are not afraid of the guests, do leave their calling cards behind by the thousand. There is no need for a sign saying keep off the grass. The grass needs a clean up big time, but leave the Rabbits in peace!!
Meals were fine. Lounges fine
Position of room. Far too many stairs and no view!
The Staff were very helpful and friendly. The breakfast was excellent.
We didn't like small room at top of Hotel with sloped ceilings and bath.
The hotel and grounds were great. Breakfast was delicious with plenty of choice. Bar staff in the lounge were friendly and helpful too, as were all staff. Location was really good for walking into town and everything we wanted to do, town, launch boat etc.
The overall score would have been higher bit the room was a bit uncomfortable overnight as it was a particularly warm day/night and there was no air conditioning. I appreciate the weather was particularly warm that day and there wasn't much air through the windows. But had we had a fan or air con, the scores would have been top.
room ok
no smiling staff
The location is v good The lounge was good and relaxing
We have been a lot to this hotel and always enjoyed it BUT we were given Room 118 which was probably the smallest room we've ever stayed in We only had one bedside table My husband had to put his phone and other stuff on window sill which was rotten on inside which made it look dirty We were not happy with it and it did spoil our stay to some degree We shall think again about rebooking which is a shame because we'vehad lots of nice breaks there
Lovely old hotel ideally situated close to the centre of Keswick with ample parking. The grounds are extensive and well maintained with a lovely outdoor area to relax with a drink. Breakfasts and dinners were very good and nicely presented. Room was a bit tired, although it is an old building. Bathroom had been updated and the lift was a real bonus.
Nothing springs to mind.
Perfect location, very friendly staff
Great for food and room quality , nice staff
Bar was closed at 1045 pm not great for business very disappointed after a visit to the local theatre you come past the town bars to have a drink in your hotel to be told sorry bar is closed . Will certainly spend my money in the Town in future visits
Probably the most historical hotel in Keswick built for the railway in 1869. Its had its share of famous visitors including Queen Elizabeth. Would definitely stay here again. Couldnt fault anything. Overall excellent.
Everything and everyone.
Parking at the hotel was a bonus in this busy town. Bedroom was huge with a great view. Garden was perfect for enjoying a pre-dinner G&T.
The staff and location excellent. Dinner was very good .
The breakfast was not as good as when we stayed 2 years ago.
Lovely grounds. Very close to the town. Staff are very attentive and accommodating.
I liked everything about the property.
History, style, elegance, throwback to a bygone age, great parking, very pleasant outdoor grounds with seating areas and pathways, could be in the middle of the Lake District yet easy walk to bustle of Keswick town centre, wonderful railway walk with direct access to d station platform. Staff were nothing short of first class, especially reception staff, cannot wait to return
Bar prices a little steep, and bar menu a little limited, an improvement in both would stop residents heading to Keswick town centre.
Lovely old world charm but with modern bedrooms and en suite. Great location only a 5 minute walk to the centre yet it was set in a peaceful location.
Public areas needed a bit more sparkle. It’s an old railway hotel but I felt the decor was a bit too neutral. It just needed a richer more striking interior to match the exterior and beautiful entrance door.
The location, the parking, the staff, the food, the bar the beds the room the hotel itself.... everything was just excellent
Nothing
Hotel is in a great location within easy walking distance of the town centre. The staff are Incredibly friendly and helpful and the breakfast was very good with reasonable selection. Great well maintained grounds
Public areas were a bit tired and in need of a revamp and the room could have done with a fan as it was very hot
Need grab handles in bath for shower . Toilet lids should close themselves.
Traditional hotel, feels like a treat. Comfortable bedroom and lounge areas. Dining room overlooks the garden. Good breakfast.
Everything was great and just as we expected
Great location and on site parking
Bathroom needed a lick ov paint and grouting, looked shabby
Close to everywhere in Keswick.been here before quiet peaceful but close to fun
Nothing
Olde world ambience
A lot of stairs in corridor making it a little difficult for me with mobility issues.
The food was very good and we had a lovely view outside our bedroom window of Skiddaw. We like the dining room which is very formal and it feels like fine dining. There are a family of cute rabbits that play on the crochet lawn and you can see them from the dining room windows. Keswick town centre is only a short walk away and Fitz Park is close by. We have stayed here several times and will be back in the future.
Nothing, we enjoyed our stay.
The hotel was very quaint and charming and in an ideal very peaceful location. Our room was in the old station building. Staff were very friendly and polite. We stayed on DBB basis...the food was lovely.
The hotel and grounds were wonderful...all staff were brilliant.
Personally I would have liked a proper smoking shelter
Beautiful location lovely grounds. Friendly staff and lovely room
We really liked the outside and the location. The shower appearance was terrible but the power was excellent. The room was clean. Tea & coffee provided in the room. Fluffy clean towels.
Top issue: Mattress. It has lost its support, we had done an 8 hour hike and needed a comfy supportive bed. At first I thought the bed was on a slope as every-time I went near the edge I felt like I was going to fall out the bed, and then when I said to my partner he said he had the same issue on his side, so when I tested it, it was the mattress was just too soft / not ridged enough to support my weight and I’m only maybe 9 stone. It sounds dramatic but it was that annoying I woke to find my partner asleep on the floor! 🥺 Breakfast: Again after a long hike, you don’t want to be rushing up for breakfast, most places we’ve stayed breakfast is like 07:00/07:30 - 10/10:30. On arrival I was disappointed to be told breakfast was only 08:30-09:30hrs as we wanted to sleep in a little, On checking the website it says 8am till 10am so we could have made it. I found that crazy considering it was a weekend in peak season but as it was late I wasn’t going to cause a fuss. No curtains - so day light is present straight away it’s also a little low quality in my opinion even if it is a 3 star. Shower appearance - looked shabby but was actually really powerful. I did not consider this hotel value for money at £177 and consider this a low rating 3 star hotel.
The closeness to town and also the free parking
It needs an update
Location. Been there a number of times before.
Nothing really.
Great location, friendly staff, garden ideal to relax with a drink. Quality breakfast
Nothing
The location is brilliant. 5 minutes walk to the town, and 10 minutes walk to the lake. Also close to Latrigg and Skiddaw for walkers. Ample free parking at the hotel. Staff friendly. Breakfast good.
God frokost, men litt lite utvalg av pålegg.
Ingenting
Everything! The place was welcoming from the minute we walked through the doors. The staff can’t do enough for you and the service is exceptional.
Nothing it was perfect!
The Bed was comfy to sleep in. The TV was easy to use and the chair was comfy to seat in. The shower was easy to use. Breakfast was good and the service provided was good.
Main Bedroom curtains did not move but the inner curtains did okay. During breakfast, I did not get on with one particular large male waiter who complained a number of tines of whistling from my hearing aid.
Everything
Nothing
A lovely old hotel in beautiful gardens with a lovely comfortable lounge area. Excellent location for walking to shops at Keswick and lots going on in close-by Fitz Park. The staff in the restaurant were very attentive to my lactose intolerance and the food was excellent. A leisurely walk along the old railway line is a must.
Bed a bit on the soft side for us and the pillows very hard. Room was very warm and the old heavy sash windows would only open a crack and needed propping to stay open.
We loved it- didn’t want to go home! This was our second stay and third time in Keswick. I loved the beautiful grounds with rabbits running around. The downstairs area was so lovely with comfy settees. The dining room was beautifully decorated. The food was exceptional- top quality produce. We took half board as we remembered how good the food was the last time. The bed was super comfy.
Only a minor gripe. The bathroom floor could have been cleaner. Perhaps offer porridge as a breakfast option as you are so close to the border.
Lovely room with great views
Location, very central close to park. Staff really helpful. Comfortable bed.
Breakfast was very average, low budget ingredients. Terrible coffee!
Great old building (old in a good way) , Rooms have modern facilities , breakfast is really good with buffet for full English with good quality ingredients , there are plenty of other options for breakfast and the room we had breakfast is very grand with great views of the house grounds . I accidently left my new running watch in the room when we checked out so contacted the hotel when i landed home and the housekeeping staff handed it in and the hotel kindly arranged to have it posted to me, so all in all a great bunch of people
We stayed for 2 nights and didn`t experience anything we didn`t like about the hotel
Very nice hotel set in excellent grounds. Wonderful setting, quiet and perfectly placed on the edge of Keswick. 10 min walk into the centre. Staff were very pleasant and attentive, spot on. Rare nowadays. Had 2 very comfortable nights in a spacious room. Lovely beer garden where we enjoyed the sunshine. Plenty of free parking either in the main carpark or on the approach road. Overall, a great trip.
Shower and bath needed updating but worked well enough.
Locatie midden in een park, op wandelafstand van het centrum.
Friendly staff, clean room, super view over the gardens and seeing the rabbits.
Great location, bed was very comfortable, very quiet. We liked the rabbits in the garden. Drinks at the bar were very reasonably priced.
After 530 if you wanted food you had to have the 3 course sit down meal. Given the weather and the rabbits it would have been lovely to have some casual food in the garden
The staff were very attentive and made us feel very welcome
There wasn’t any thing that would be listed
The room was a great size and very clean. The location was great for a short walk into Keswick. The staff were all very friendly and efficient. The breakfast was superb.
All was great.
The location Keswick the breakfast was lovely
A cold welcome from the male receptionist, felt like he took an instant dislike to us and gave us a terrible room (115),out the back no view at all just the back entrance for services.
Location. The staff are amazing. Breakfast is fantastic.
Some areas need renovation, mattresses could do with renewal.
Everything ! A perfect stay.
Nothing
Comfortable beds, friendly staff
Very overpriced and mediocre £45 set dinner. Staff were setting up breakfast as we were still eating. Room was nice enough, but no fridge or fan, and felt overpriced
I loved the decor and comfortable settees to relax in. Plenty of space too.
The property was delightful I. Every way. There was nothing that wasn’t pleasing.
Great staff, very hard working, lovely location, great food, will definitely go back again , Thank You All at the Hotel
Nothing not to dislike
Breakfast was okay apart from eggs which were over cooked scrambled eggs were good
Bedroom , didn’t like location, television screen small stayed in better rooms before, at a higher level
Breakfast was good but the choice of fruit juice was limited. I don’t like acidy prefer apple .The evening meals were excellent.
It was very hot and the windows did not open properly. One didn’t open at all and the other had to be propped open with wood I found in the wardrobe. It was too hot to sleep with a thick duvet. We came home exhausted.
Beautiful old hotel in a superb spot - away from the hustle and bustle of the centre of town, while still an easy walk to shops, parks, lakeside and museums. Very handy for the excellent Keswick to Threlkeld railway walk too.
Location away from the hustle & bustle of Keswick but an easy 5min walk into town. Very friendly staff. The restaurant is beautiful over looking the gardens and the food is very good with a menu that changes daily. Bar/Lounge area welcoming for a pre or after dinner drink.
Nothing
