La camera era molto sporca, il bagno in uno stato terribile: asciugamani macchiati e incrostazioni ovunque. La zanzariera tutta bucata e con molti insetti. Odore di umido dentro la stanza e odore di immondizia fuori. Le lenzuola erano sporche. Poichè stavamo solo una notte e siamo arrivati molto tardi , non abbiamo voluto cambiare albergo (dormendo poco e niente) ma abbiamo verificato altri alberghi in zona e a quel prezzo c'era molto ma molto di meglio ... quindi anche in termini economici non è andata bene. Il proprietario è stato anche gentile quando ci ha accolti ma a fine soggiorno mi ha mandato un messaggio chiedendo di mettere il punteggio massimo su Booking.com e io gli ho risposto che visto lo stato della camera non me la sentivo di lasciare recensioni positive. Non ha nemmeno risposto con delle scuse.

The rooms were super clean, large and airy. The windows faced the back wilderness that made one feel you were living in the green deep in the forests. The manager and cook Hari was very warm and made delicious breakfast and took care of our allergies. We were very comfortable here.

The location is amazing, only 3 minutes walk away from the main street. The owners and the personnel were super sweet and attentive. The breakfast was very nice and Hari is very helpful.

De cottage wordt uitgebreid wat betekent dat je aan de ene kant in een super mooie nieuwe kamer zit met allemaal beton om je heen en aan de andere kant in een oudere kamer (waarvan de badkamer wel echt oud was) zonder beton. Vanaf de nieuwe kamer heb je vanaf een groot balkon schitterend uitzicht. Ontbijt was heerlijk en natuurlijk veel te veel ;-) Het is fijn dat het iets verder weg ligt van de gezellige straat van Ella waardoor je geen last hebt van de muziek etc. Je moet dan wel even omhoog klimmen maar daar kan je ook een tuktuk voor nemen. Vriendelijke meneer!

Kijk of in een nieuwe kamer kunt boeken, deze is prachtig.

Great location in terms of Ella Main Street. Breakfast was lovely on the balcony and catered for vegans.

Bathroom was a bit shabby but worked well.

Camera molto tranquilla e pulita, con vista sul bosco. Il letto è molto comodo. Il proprietario ci ha dato un'ottimo consiglio su dove mangiare a Ella. Anche la colazione offerta è stata molto buona.

La vista è un po' meno bella di quanto ci si aspettava perché nel piano sotto ci sono dei lavori e si vede dal terrazzo, nulla di grave in ogni caso.

Der Service des Personals war sehr gut. Der Hotelbetreiber hat uns sehr geholfen bei der Organisation einer Safari und Autofahrt zu unserer nächsten Unterkunft.

Das Zimmer war etwas heruntergekommen. Es gibt auch neuere Zimmer in der Unterkunft.

Exceptional stay in Ella! We had an amazing time at Green Cottage Ella and everything was just great! The staff is super friendly, welcoming, and helpful. Our room was spotless, clean, and featured a wonderful, spacious balcony. Being surrounded by lush greenery makes you feel like you are right in the middle of the jungle, and it’s so much quieter and more peaceful than staying down in the busy town. The location is fantastic—it takes only about 5 minutes to walk into the city center. Just keep in mind that the hotel is located up on a hill rather than right at the bottom. Taxis and cars can drive up without an issue, though the road is quite narrow if two vehicles need to pass each other. There is no air conditioning in the room, but you truly don't need one since the temperatures drop and it gets pleasantly cool in the evening. Overall, a lovely stay with great vibes—highly recommended!

Location off main strip in Ella but could not hear the hustle and bustle of the city. The setting is very relaxing and great for wildlife spotters. We saw a variety of birds, monkeys, wild deer and giant squirrels all from our balcony. Breakfast was also some of the best we have had in Sri Lanka. It includes a fresh omelette, vegetable pastry, fruit platter, coconut pancakes and tea or coffee. It was all delicious. The team also arranged a fabulous cookery class only a minutes walk from the hotel that is well worth doing. A great experience also.

Really great location, minutes walk away from the centre of town but the room feels like it is in the middle of the jungle! Breakfast was delicious and the staff are all very friendly. The bed was massive and comfortable

Ontbijt was prima en het matras lag goed.

De kamer was niet schoon en erg verouderd. Verf bladderde los van het plafond en je zag de overgeschildere schimmelvlekken in de badkamer. Douche was ook vies/verkalkt. Vlekken en gaten in de klamboe. Klammige kamer. We vonden in de kamer nog een pil van andere gasten op de grond, al beweerde de eigenaar dat de kamer door 3 mensen was gecontroleerd. Hij bleef maar vragen of we geen slechte review wilde schrijven. Maar ik hoop dat men dit leest en een andere keus kan maken. Wij hebben de reviews niet goed gefilterd op booking.com waardoor we de slechte reviews niet hadden gezien. Die zijn er! Ook de locatie is wat meer de heuvel op, tuktuk drivers vragen daardoor extra geld voor de rit.

Omgeving, schoon, lieve mensen, locatie echt top, bed sliep echt heerlijk. Goede warme douche. Ohhhh en het ontbijt echt super

Such a lovely place. The staff were amazing, they were so kind and friendly. They accommodated us for delicious breakfasts they so kindly made. The room was clean, big and really pretty with a lovely shower. The balcony onlooking jungle was incredible with monkeys birds and a mongoose! There was a large ceiling fan that worked SO well - kept us really cool and was brilliant! The location is really good, a couple minutes walk to the centre down the train tracks so really convenient. Probably the best value for money place we found in Sri Lanka! Definitely book, we would stay again in a heartbeat! Extras: they ensured the WiFi worked and went above and beyond to get extra connection in the room

Great property nestled in the hillside with friendly hosts and clean rooms. They have both old style rooms and new modern style rooms. The hotel owner Mr. Daya and staff Mr. Hari were cordial and took care of us well.

Very old property, the AC very bad and poor, they provided extra fan for me how ever the AC is very week, in morning i went to bathroom i found 2 bees inside the bathroom and I couldn’t use it then i have to wait for the assistant for 2 hours to help me, the assistant don’t know how to speak English you ask him something he answers for something else, location in huge hill however it’s near to city center. I was there for only one night and I changed to another hotel.

We stayed in one of the bungalow cottage room and it was big and exactly as pictured. The staff was so friendly, he arranged for laundry cleaning, scooter bike rental and he made an excellent breakfast for us.Excellent value!!

Confort et espace

Property was clean and the host was very helpful with recommendations around the area. It is in a great location with lovely views and only a 7 minute wall from the centre! We had breakfast every morning which was so delicious and filling for the day.

Beautiful location, clean and spacious bungalow and close walk to town but away from the noise. Staff was incredible-very kind, friendly and eager to assist with anything. Breakfast was wonderful with wide variety of foods and very delicious. I can highly recommend Green Cottage Ella and hope to return someday.

Lovely staff who really made us feel welcome, arranging laundry for us. Breakfast was delicious, and it was great to have mosquito nets over the beds as well. In a great setting too with monkeys and other wildlife close to the room in the jungle.

Le prix trop élevé par rapport aux prestations, la chambre était vieillissante, cela semblait plus propre et plus neuf sur les photos.Les photos de Booking sont embellies . Attention à la grimpette en venant de la ville et aux escaliers pour accéder à la chambre !

10 min walk to restaurants

Wij hadden de King Room geboekt die net nieuw was. Een super mooie kamer met mooie grote schuifdeuren en een fijne badkamer. Het ontbijt wat Hari elke ochtend verzorgde was fantastisch. Een heerlijk groot ontbijt, veruit de beste die we bij ons verblijf hebben gehad in Sri Lanka. Complimenten voor de gastvrijheid van de host Hari.

De locatie was heel fijn, dicht bij het centrum van Ella maar net buiten de drukte. Het uitzicht op de aapjes vanaf het balkon was ook heel leuk.

Het was heel eenvoudig maar voor de prijs helemaal prima.

Our host was attentive and eager to please. The breakfasts were delicious. It was lovely being in the trees and seeing monkeys and squirrels.

There was mould in the bathroom (poorly vented) and things generally felt damp.

Hari was very kind and helpfull, breakfast wa great.

They were building right next door so access to our room was via unfinished stairs. Faciities were very basic because of this. We did laundry, and most of our laundry was shrunk in the dryer costing quite a bit. Although they were very sorry, it was an expensive mistake that cost us.

Nice location located 5min walking from the center in a quiet secondary street in the nature. Staff was very nice offering any needed support. Great and abundant breakfast.

Very clean, spacious and in a beautiful location. We met the owner who was lovely and was working over the holiday while his staff were on break. We then met Hari who was the regular staff and was also very attentive and helpful, he helped us at every point of our stay.

The bed! Wow. I slept like a baby. One of the best beds ever. Amazing location. Can walk to so much. Fabulous views right down the road of the mountain and waterfall. Monkey entertainment at breakfast.

There is a fair amount of mould in the room. The shower doesn't get warmer than 37 degrees, which might be fine on a hot day, but it was rainy and cold when we were there. Place just needs a deep clean and upgrade of facilities. Pillows smelled mouldy.

Little bit expensive

Peaceful place which we really appreciated as Ella is crazy busy and, to our eyes, incredibly touristy which we didn’t like. Good place to escape to after being bombarded by the bars and restaurants of the main strip. The closeness to the town centre whilst being in the natural environment is really good. Big comfy bed so great as a place to crash for one night. The one member of staff we met was wonderful, very welcoming and made us a packed breakfast to take on the very early train out of Ella to Kandy. Really delicious. He also arranged a tuk tuk to get us to the station at 6am. We seem’ed to be the only guests and he looked after us very well.

Across Sri Lanka we stayed in some lovely small boutique hotels and guest houses. Green Cottage was not the best, but it was one of the more expensive. Suspect this is just because there is a lot of demand in Ella. Our room was low down under their tree canopy so while it was cool it felt damp and there was nothing to really look at from the small balcony. maybe a room on the higher floor would have had more natural light and a sense of the forest life. We seemed to be the only guests and the whole place felt a bit tired and abandoned as if we were staying there out of season. We were only staying one night so we could get on the train the next morning so non of this was that important to us. We did however think it was quite expensive compared to other places we stayed on our trip round the country.

Excellent accommodation! Clean, nice views into the trees with monkeys, delicious and big breakfast, nice location and super flexible and kind staff! Tip: Walk along the train tracks for a shortcut into town - makes it about 5 mins.

The location is perfect if you are going on a hike to Ella rock. The property is very close to the city centre and rooms have a balcony with beautiful view on the natural landscape of Ella. Breakfast was tasty and typical Srilankan.

Gorgeous cottage close to the main area. Walkable but up a very steep hill. Enjoyed sitting in the porch and looking out into the bushland. Plentiful breakfast with pancakes, omelette, bread and fruits. Staff very friendly!

the location is just amazing! Quiet and peaceful. The windows of our room open up to the terrace overlooking the Quiet forest with a greenery view . You're a 5min walk from the center through a shortcut along the train rails . Ella is visited for its wonderful nature and hikes. Very easy to go there sightseen from this place. The staff was amazing, always smiling and ready to help. Our stay at Green Cottage, Ella was just perfect! Highly recommended for Other guests.

Great Place

Host is great, friendly, helpful. Personally makes your breakfast. Will get you a tuk tuk, or give recommendations. Downtown Ella is walking distance, easy walk down, but steep hill coming back. The room on the property was below the street, so steep, uneven steps of different sizes and height to get there, and your carrying bags and gear down, and back up the steps. The room was basic. If you’re used to amenities, or a shower that’s not a pipe out of the side of the wall in the corner of the bathroom with a drain in the floor, then this probably isn’t your kind of place. The setting is quiet, tranquil, and if you look close you’ll see monkeys in the trees. They also like to run across your room roof “early” in the morning. The host is the best thing about this property!

Green Cottage Ella the nature with forest view is more amazing in real life! -beds are so comfy with lovely duvets -the biggest and best ,fresh homemade breakfast ever! -lovely host who own the place. always checking to make sure you have everything you need. 5 min walking time to from city center He helped me organise a taxi to tangalle a very good price. -mosquito nets , fans and Air condition provided in room. -very nice shower with warm water -10/10, even better than i'd expected. would reccomend anyone to stay here. the best place i have stayed in sri lanka. Definitely I would come back here.

The manager was friendly and lfted heavy case down steep stairs. The location is OK.. its Ella@. Breakfast simple but OK.

Booking.com description of this property is fraudulent. There is no restaurant. No oven or microwave in room. No fireplace. No garden. The room was not so clean...stained mosquito net with holes. No walk..in shower. Room extremely basic and was not cleaned between days. Nowhere to hang clothes. Security a ridiculous tiny padlock. We know Ella and you can stay in other properties that are far better and cleaner for half the price. We were fooled by the description implying some luxury that is imaginary. We feel very let down.

The location is perfect. 5 minute walk to restaurants, cafes, supermarkets, tuk tuks and bakeries. The street that the hotel is on, is directly opposite the road to go to Little Adam’s Peak, Nine Arch Bridge and a short walk away from Ravana Cave & Waterfall. The room is very spacious, with a big bed and mosquito net. The bathroom is spacious and a good sized shower area. The shower has good temperature consistently. The balcony is large with two deck chairs and two stools with a big table. It is also under a canopy so it is cool and shaded. It also looks over a forest with lots of animals. On our last day we saw lots of monkeys from the balcony. The best thing about this accommodation is the handy man that works there. He does the work load of 4 people effortlessly. He is very welcoming, smiley and we definitely got the feeling that he wanted to make our stay as comfortable as possible and make sure we were happy. He made breakfast for us, each morning had different delicious foods. Breakfast was a very good portion and we felt bad we couldn’t finish it all. The hotel room and grounds are clean and very well kept.

The hotel is located up a steep hill. If you are fit and healthy this is not a problem. Just a warning. If you are use to 5 star hotels and luxury, this place isn’t for you. Anyone else this is a perfect place to stay. There’s is nothing wrong with this hotel, in 3 days we couldn’t find anything to fault, I would highly recommend.

We loved being so close to nature. The cottages are tucked into the hillside amongst the trees, we saw so much wildlife it was incredible. The cottages are really cute and it really feels like jungle accomodation! The trees also kept the place nice and cool during the hot daytime temperatures! It was also really close to the waterfalls and a very kind local farmer showed us a secret viewing point through his fields near the hotel. The staff were friendly and warm.

The hotel is up quite a steep hill, not far from the main road but if you were carrying heavy bags it would be quite tricky. Pack light or pay for a tuk tuk/taxi to get you there!! Also, we didn’t find out that the hotel only accepts cash payments until late on our last evening. This meant we had to go back into Ella to take cash out (down and back up the hill!).

Fantastic property in Ella. This place has One of the most amazing jungle view ,we have ever seen. the Breakfast is delicious 😋 & plentiful the staff are incredibly nice and helpful. Bed room is spacious,clean. the bed we're so comfortable with watching outside green environments. Host Daya especially made our stay extra special. This property is just quick walk to the town. This location was charming & we could watched more wild animals, like deers,rabbits, monkeys, gain squirrels even big butterflies. If we ever come back to Ella we will be definitely stay here again. 100% recommend this Hotel
