The location was great but unfortunately that is the only positive I can take away from staying here
Very disappointing stay, and frankly not a standard I would expect from a hotel. The cleanliness of the room was completely unacceptable. There were multiple hairs left around the room, including hairs in the shower, as well as visible stains. Finding someone else’s hair and stains in a room that is supposed to have been cleaned before a guest’s arrival is extremely unpleasant and raises serious questions about the standard of housekeeping. I have photographic evidence of the issues I found, so these are not simply matters of personal opinion or minor complaints. The remote control was also missing a battery, meaning even this basic room facility was not ready for use. What has made the experience even more disappointing is the hotel’s response to my complaint. I contacted the property through Booking.com to raise these issues and, at the time of writing, the property has not responded to my complaints at all. Cleanliness is the absolute bare minimum when paying to stay in a hotel. Unfortunately, that basic standard was not met here, and the complete lack of response when I raised the issues has only added to my disappointment. Based on my experience, I would not stay here again and cannot recommend this property.
The location was great. It's close to Keswick, which is a lovely town, and the western Lakes, such as Crummock Water, Loweswater and Buttermere. Braithwate itself is pretty, and quiet. The Royal Oak is well known for it's steak and ale pies, and rightly so. They were absolutely delicious.I should mention the veg that goes with the pies; the mash and gravy blended perfectly, the carrots were just right and the red cabbage gave a nice bit of tartness set against the richness of the pie. Also, the bar is well stocked with good local beers
Having complimented the range of beers, I must say that it would have been nice to have a little more in the way of choice of wines. The limited choice may be because there is not much demand for wine there. T
Lovely location and friendly staff. The BBQ Ribs were out of this world!
Nothing
Spacious room good condition
Difficult exit with bulk luggage
Warm friendly pub in idyllic village.
No breakfast available.
It was great to stay there. Very nice and cosy. Thank you!
Everything
Fantastic position with parking. Staff were brilliant. Very friendly and attentive. Always willing to help.
Everything was good.
Everything especially the pie!!
I couldn't fault the place,
Good food and service
Problem with the shower and the television
This is my second stay at the Royal Oak. I like the location, the food, staff and rooms are well maintained and comfortable.
The carpets throughout the property are dirty and a little smelly. This is the only negative that I have about the property.
Location was perfect
No breakfast service. Our room wasnt cleaned properly. The 2 glasses were dirty and bathroom floor hadnt been swept or clean, there was long black hairs on the floor .
Location, food and hospitality was great but breakfast option wasn't available
Location, the reception when booking in the guy who was on reception was excellent
The room was very small and above the kitchen so it was impossible to open a window because of cooking smells and the noise of the kitchen extractor.
Clean , comfortable room, nicely furnished , excellent bathroom good shower. Evening meal very good just a shame they didn’t do breakfast.
Nothing
Frienly staff Great pint Comfy bed Handy for our adventures
Nothing to dislike

Boven een pub...een beetje druk
Location was great and the hotel overall was excellent. The room we had was very close to a fairly busy road, so road noise was an issue. Also unfortunately the walls are pretty thin, so noise from the adjoining room on one night was disturbing. Food was of a good standard and plentiful.
The hotel was excellent and the staff very attentive. The room was clean and spacious and well presented.
Het eten in het hotel was erg lekker!
De kamer was erg klein.
Location
Limited car parking
Location.
Expensive at £125 per night and NO BREAKFAST. Room was tiny, no staff in the morning until 12.00. Refrigeration unit outside our room 9 and on all night. No sleep first night at all and precious little second with no free room to relocate. Owners advised by Manager but ignored vomplaint and no subsequent contact.
Quiet location. Away from Keswick. Nice walking trails nearby. Staff were friendly. Clean facility.
Fridge was pretty tiny. Big enough for two sodas or canned drinks.
Close to where we needed to be. Friendly pub and staff.
Bed sheets had marks on it. Hairs too. Toilet needed bleach.
Very comfortable well kept rooms, great food in the restaurant in the evening and a short walk for breakfast
No breakfast was included, fruit biscuits were their for our first day, but none for the second
For the A toilet pot brush should be included
Perfect location

Lovley building
No help getting bags up 3 flights of stairs No breakfast
Location was quiet, away from tourists, beautiful view of hills, friendly staff. Bathroom was exceptional! Big windows, lots of light.
Pillows were old, bedding had some hair.
Beer and location
Asked for a double bed but it was just two singles that kept splitting apart Hunters chicken to me is chicken bacon.cheese and bbq sauce What i got was just dried chicken with bbq sauce so food dissappointing
Not worth the money. No breakfast included. Noisy.
Excellent location, food was very good ( special on was the steak 👌 ) and a great vibe. Would return.
No breakfast, but available very nearby.
Great location and parking
Room 9 next to air conditioning unit very noisy overnight. Unfortunately didn’t make for a good night’s sleep
The beds were ridiculously comfy! Rooms were spacious and clean, and surprisingly quiet to say it's above a pub - didn't hear a peep all evening. Good shower & bath too. Would stay here again

Friendly staff, lovely location. Spacious room with comfortable bed. Free parking, delicious food and a warm friendly atmosphere.

Sehr offenes, freundliches Personal. Modernes Badezimmer. Das Zimmer hat alles geboten, was man brauchte.
Man hat noch lange die Geräusche aus dem darunterliegenden Pub gehört, aber damit war zu rechnen.
Nice friendly staff and handy for the walks we intended doing
The kettle plug didn’t work in room 10 it was also very difficult to get to the plug that didn’t work. An out of order sticker would have been better. The drop down blind was also broken .
Staff were great, beds comfy, prices of drinks about average and views were amazing.
The room could do with a proper chair and not just a stool for the vanity table. Also, whilst it didn't bother me personally, my room, No. 3, was above the kitchens and so I had the cooking smells all day, plus the noise of a vent or fan which was on all day and into the night. Luckily the food smelled good and the fan (?) noise ended up being almost like a background white noise, still a great room overall.
The rooms were modern and clean. The dinner (steak pie) was first class and outside area was perfect for evening refreshments.
The twin room was on the small side and the price of a gin & tonic was on the high side.
breakfast was delicious and the room was luvly and comfortable
no problems with anything
Everything about my stay was perfect. Parking available in the hotel carpark. The hotel is in the middle of the village. It has a bar which serves food. I had a small issue with my dinner which I didn't want to complain about but the staff noticed and actually raised with me and dealt with perfectly. Everyone is so friendly and the rooms are immaculate. Will definitely be back.
Nothing. Everything perfect
Couldn’t fault it.
Nice comfy room. Relaxed pleasant staff.
Despite being an olde pub the rooms were quite modern and spacious and well refurbed
Nothing
Brilliant location. All staff very friendly. Room was spotless, well furnished and beautifully appointed. Lovely bathroom with hot shower. Free parking.
No issues at all.
Hyggelig personale og god middag
Friendly owners; good bar food and beer; relaxed atmosphere and friendly to hikers.
Accommodation felt secondary to the main business of the pub. No breakfast on offer, we had to buy this from the local coffee house which has the same owners.
Location was very nice and close to public transport to get in and out of Keswick
We had no shower gel or shampoo in the room. They had run out and a member of staff eventually had to take a shower dispenser off the wall of another room so we could shower ok.
Spotless room and a very generous size with great views either side. On site parking but limited.
No breakfast on site.
Such a welcoming place to stay with any help offered if needed. Atmosphere was very friendly throughout our stay. The food was very enjoyable and no one should leave hungry with very decent portions for the bigger appetite. I would definitely return when in the Keswick area.
I have no remarks to make.
Great staff, parking available, good location to visit Keswick.
Friendly and welcoming staff. Clean and well presented room. ample parking. The village of Braithwaite is small and quiet. Would certainly recommend. Bar food was really good.
The room was very warm in the midst of a heatwave. A fan would have helped.
Great location for fell walking.
I have been there befoire so i knew what to expect. As good as ever
Great room in a nice hotel well located for the northern Lakes and Whinlatter Forest.
All good.
Loved the location and the ease of accessing the room. Very dog friendly
It was a bit too warm in the room but otherwise it was great
Great location . Nice pub with good atmosphere
No breakfast
Nice location, friendly staff, nice food. Slept in the bed, shower not used.
Never enough milk given in the room.
Food location and facilities
Super friendly and very helpful staff. The room was immaculate Would definitely recommend to anyone.
Nice place, staff very helpful, food great. Rooms good.
Nothing to say, all good
Great location great food and drink
Nothing
Room comfortable, atmospheric pub
Really ale choice limited
Clean and welcoming
The payment was taken out my account prior to the stay when payment was to be on arrival. This could not be refunded to enable a different payment method. There was no breakfast option The room was small and very hot. I also requested that twin beds but got a double bed.
The location was ideal and the rooms were perfect
Having to trek up flights of stairs to the top floor with luggage, dog and dog bed wasn’t ideal There was no other means of getting to rooms.
Het personeel is erg vriendelijk en behulpzaam
Niks
Very cosy, clean and situated in quiet village, well located to see the Lakes

Great location, staff and room!

Opened at 12pm, barman bery helpful with bus times into keswick.
Great location and views. Friendly staff
Was expensive for room only. Would have been good to have breakfast available. Access was awkward when pub was closed and tea and coffee facilities not replaced, unless you requested it.
Friendly people .
Was very hot in the night no ventilation. Light just outside bedroom window in the night so it was very light in the night . And a silly step just before bedroom door when its dark its very dangerous needs to have floor light or senser light i feeled 2 times cos i always forgot. Shame no breakfast for this price .
The rooms were ideal for a couple and the staff were incredibly friendly
The room was a bit dirty, there was a hair and the coffee mugs and teaspoons weren’t clean
Easy to check in took two minutes staff very friendly..room was spotless. We had our dinner at the property and that was first class as well....all in all couldn't ask for anymore..thanks
Only niggle we left early and no info where to leave room key ..maybe key box would be good idea
Meal in the pub was excellent. Comfy bed. A pretty village to walk around in.
10-11 pm there was noise from the pub below our room including music. This delayed us getting to sleep until the pub closes about 11 pm
Owner was very accommodating. Allowing us early access to the room so we were able to get ready for a wedding we were to attend.
Pub downstairs was lovely. Good great and so was the atmosphere. Room was clean, but we booked the room with a bath and unfortunately there was just a shower.
Little noisy with the window open, but to be expected above a bar xxx
Loved everything about this place. Perfect location, staff were really friendly, rooms clean and comfortable.Think we've found our place to stay when we visit this area. Already booked another stay and next time we'll be trying the food because it smelled delicious.
I liked everything about it
Very friendly pub accommodation. Super-helpful staff, good food, & room was comfortable
Clean and comfortable
Nothing
Rooms clean and fresh Food very good but not exceptional Welcoming and helpful staff
Breakfast is not provided on site, but in a breakfast bistro some 200m distant. Not a real problem but some would find it inconvenient and of course it’s not included in the overnight cost.
Clean, modern room on 2nd floor away from noise of the bar, which was very busy. Great location.
A breakfast service would be great.
Lovely rooms, amazing views, easy access to Keswick, good parking and outdoor seating
Short curly black hairs everywhere - including the bedsheets. There was also an outdoor light directly above my window so despite closing the curtains the room always stayed bright. Noisy neighbours are easily heard.
The lady who checked us in was so friendly and helpful
That we couldn't stay longer
Location, food
Staff, room, not what i asked for, help was very Poland disappointing
Food, staff and room all very good as was the location.
Lovely pub with good food, parking first in best dressed, nice room, freshly renovated bathroom.
Bed is too soft and bad for back, pretty noisy from the pub downstairs.
