Reviewed Apr 4, 2026Welcoming lounge. It was big and had a nice warm heater. The blue penguin attraction was within walking distance, which was nice, We could have driven there though, but it was a nice cool 10min walk. We didnt know that we needed to book tickets in advance, so we couldnt get in. Luckily we were able to get in at the 9pm sitting, which cost less. So happy to see so many groups of blue penguins come up the shores and to their nesting ground, At the last count it was about >120 blue penguins. some came and walked past us, 1m away. Loved the living room, dining area with Sea views, The steep slope served its purpose well, and we could see the sea views.
A steep slope, and we had a big 9 seater people mover. Easy to get in, luckily there was enough space to do a 3 point turn. Some steps up to the house. We had some lugguage and as we were all ladies, it was a bit of a struggle, No worries, we managed though.

It is a five-minute walk to Oamaru’s Heritage Precinct and only a three-minute drive to the observation area for wild penguins. Both the indoor and outdoor spaces of the property are very spacious, and the natural lighting is great. The self check-in process was convenient, and the instructions were clear and easy to follow.
Cleanliness could be improved. Although the kitchen was well equipped with a variety of utensils, many of the dishes and bowls had noticeable grease stains and needed to be washed again before use.

Reviewed Jan 6, 2026Everything, the view, the accommodation and the location for an easy walk to the heritage centre. We went to the Little Blue Penguin evening and ate at the Del Mar Restaurant next door beforehand. Recommend that you book (online) beforehand. The Victorian Precinct is a nice place to stroll. The Whitestone City Museum is interesting and we ate at The Criterion Hotel here.

Reviewed Jan 1, 2026The house was a close walk to the penguin colony, shops, cafes, bars, restaurants, the waterfront, and Steampunk HQ. It was a 5 min drive to the supermarket. The house has everything we needed as a family of 4. The beds were comfortable, and the view was amazing! We loved the binoculars as they made the view come alive. We loved staying. It was the perfect home away from home.
