Reviewed Sep 7, 2026I love the sanctuary of the venue it definitely feels like a retreat. Beyond home is very therapeutic. The hosts are amazing breath of fresh air they are great with visitors.

Reviewed Jul 17, 2026A unexpected beautiful retreat. The bed is very comfortable, beddings are very fluffy and soft - it doesn't want to wake me up~. Shower water is very nice. The room contained many unexpected items, like air fryer, electric blankets, 1l long life milk, small jars containing various kinds of biscuits, scones, cooking oil, vinegar, salt, pepper, different coffees, and teas...very interesting books, magazines, and BOARD GAMES - my kids enjoyed very much. --- all those things make me feel like a real home!

Reviewed May 17, 2026They are truly aligned with living holistically in nature. The rooms were gorgeously clean. It felt like I was visiting a villa in Italy with the vibe and gardens. South African artwork and sculptures in the rooms. Things that made me feel and looked after: Coffee, tea and sugar as I would expect Unexpected items that go above and beyond: A milk in the fridge Balsamic vinegar and olive oil in the kitchen Salt and pepper Bins for organic, recyclable and general waste Quick drying cotton towels for swimming. Jennifer was so welcoming and I can see and feel how the running of Bardolino is an expression of her commitment to living holistically. Next time I definitely want to purchase some honey which they sell at the property.

Le logement était parfait, très propre, avec une magnifique vue. Le petit déjeuner était délicieux. Merci beaucoup pour l’accueil, nous repartons avec de super souvenirs.

For the 3 nights I was there, the dog barked at all hours of the night because the owner was away on holiday for the week. During the day, the neighbors came to have a party at the pool (as if THEY were paying guests) with 3 children under ten. They were joined by friends with more children. This made the pool area unusable. Their dog barked all day from the neighboring house and they didn't seem to care. BARKING DOGS, NO WIFI, KIDS is no "artist's retreat." I asked for a refund and the owner simply stopped communicating. If my timing was different, this could have been a wonderful place to visit repeatedly -the grounds are absolutely lovely, as are the historical buildings. Lastly, I didn't appreciate the wall art - fox hunting, complete with rider victoriously holding up a fox's severed tail, while his hounds rip the fox to shreds. Who still thinks this is appropriate art for a guest lodge??

The place overall is a little corner of greenery where relaxation and reconnection are guaranteed. Jennifer and Walter are truly friendly and know how to make you feel at home. I highly recommend it.

Reviewed Feb 12, 2026What a wonderful find in a beautiful location. Off the beaten track, a pretty view and the hosts were great. There is an option for breakfast, which we enjoyed on our last day in the beautiful dining area of the main house. Jennifer and Walter were very engaging and we enjoyed their stories and insight of the surrounding area. We stayed in the Stables with its old charm decor and loved our private BBQ area. Would definitely stay there again.

Reviewed Jan 21, 2026we arrived at The Bardolino Artist Retreat on the afternoon of the 23rd of December but left shortly after because the accommodation given to us was not what we expected. It did not look like a lot of effort was put into cleaning the floors of the room, there was dust on the floor and the rugs were even dirtier, we were traveling with a 9 month baby that’s at crawling phase so this set up wasn’t going to work for us for the entire week that we had planned to stay. It also would have been helpful for the owner to indicate before confirming the booking that they have more than 3/4 dogs on the property. Further to that, the way in which we were received is also wanting as we spent about 10 minutes at the gate without being attended to

The electric blankets on the beds were just amazing. The beautiful bird songs were an added bonus. Thank you, Jennifer, we had a most memorable stay.

Very close to nelspruit cbd so could get anything needed very quickly from shops.Spacious pool was a real treat.Nice braai area although the hosts gave us the option to use the portable braai right outside our door.Clean well furnished unit with great room service, didnt have to ask for anything. Very friendly and helpful hosts ,even offered info on places we could visit. The dogs Pablo and Luna also welcomed us lol and were friendly. Jennifer and Walter thanks guys.Perfect get away.
Nothing, just the frogs came into the house a few times but probably caused by heavy rainfall days prior plus lots of greenery on the property so understandable. Bring mosquito repellant in summer , mosquitoes are violent in the lowveld lol.

1. The lady called me a day prior to me arriving and asked me if it is possible to move to to another room as the shower is not working. 2. when we did get to the accommodation we did tell her that there is a stuffy and damp smell and that we are not happy, we were even feeling so itchy etc that we only sat at the table and never move anywhere. 3. she then told me that we will not get any money back as she did have other people to stay but because we did not want to go to the other place that she had she still gave us this 1.(She did lie about the shower not working). 4. While i was talking to her she started giving me a attitude and she walked away. 5. Her Dog and cat just comes into the room. 6. The accommodation is not neat and clean at all, very Disgusting. 7. The kicked sink was clogging and the toilet was not flushing 8. She also brought towels after picking her cat up. That isn't hygienic at all.

Reviewed Dec 16, 2025The property is stunning. Lots of love and care over many many years have gone into the sculpting and nurturing of the property. The owners are delightful and extremely approachable. In terms of pricing, this property is great value for money as well.
Not much really. We experienced a power outage (not owners fault) and the hot water in the bathroom was a bit iffy to get right. It is also a bit of a drive to the nearest shops or restaurants.

Reviewed Nov 3, 2025We had an excellent stay at Bardolino. We stayed in the Gate House (4 sleeper). The unit has a fully equipped kitchen (including salt, pepper, oil, coffee, tea, milk, rusks and biscuits). Everything is neat, clean and working. The beds are super comfortable, and there are linens, towels, and even swimming towels. The shower is wonderful - great pressure, and big! There is a neat outside area next to the unit and enough parking. The property has a beautiful garden, and the swimming pool area is also equipped with some loungers and an undercover patio with comfy furniture. Pablo and Luna (the dogs) are very friendly. Jennifer also went above and beyond to make our short trip amazing. There is a gravel road (+-1.8km) but it is in excellent condition. Thank you for a wonderful stay - we will be back! :)
