Was fine for me as a solo traveller. However the living area was pretty tiny for two of it were a couple .

This accommodation is amazing! The views are stunning, the breakfast is delicious and the staff are incredible. Our hosts went out of their way to ensure we were completely comfortable and relaxed every day. The location is an easy tuk tuk ride from the main town or a 20min walk, and the views from the hotel are absolutely worth it. This place is a must-stay for anyone visiting Ella.

Einfach wunderbar ruhig, mit unglaublichem Blick Richtung Ella.

The view is stunning and people are lovely. Though the amenities are basic it feels so relaxing like a retreat. I felt so peaceful and could have spent longer there talking to the staff, stroking their lovely dogs and looking at that view.

A beautiful property with stunning gardens and memorable views over Ella’s Gap. The owners were so friendly and welcoming and went out of their way for us. They took the time to show us the garden plants and give us details on the area. The breakfast was so good.

Wir hatten das Ambiente Guesthouse wegen der fantastischen Aussicht und dem wunderschönen Garten gebucht und wurden nicht enttäuscht. Das wirklich außergewöhnliche an dieser Unterkunft war aber das Personal. Alle waren sehr freundlich und hlfsberbereich, aber Shanaka ist die Seele des Hauses. Er macht mit seiner unglaublich sympathischen Art das Guesthouse zu einem ganz besonderen Ort. Er hat es uns wirklich schwer gemacht weiterzureisen. Danke für eine unvergessliche Zeit! Toll fanden wir auch die Lage - Weg vom Trubel der Stadt, aber nicht zu weit. Zum Ella Rock konnten wir vom Hotel aus wandern. In der Straße sind auch Restaurants - für einen entspannten Abend empfehlen wir das Green Leaf. Gefreut haben wir uns auch über den Wasserkocher und Teebeutel auf dem Zimmer. Die Mehrfachsteckdose war sehr praktisch. Ach ja und das Frühstück - jeden Tag ein bisschen Abwechslung und immer sehr reichlich und lecker, mit Bananen aus eigenem Anbau.

Nos hemos alojado tres familias en sus bonitas habitaciones. Todas ellas con unas vistas preciosas. Para bajar a Ella necesitarás un tuk tuk pues no está lejos pero sí a unas altura considerable. Un lugar muy bonito para relajarte y sentirte muy bien tratado. El desayuno muy bueno y abundante.

Quizás mejoraría un poco los baños pero estaban muy limpios y funcionaban perfectamente

Hotel op een fantastische plek. Fenomenaal uitzicht en een prachtige tuin. Heerlijk om op de veranda van het uitzicht en de luchten te genieten. Super vriendelijk personeel, lekker avond eten in het hotel en ook restaurantjes op loopafstand

Badkamers zijn gedateerd en toe aan een opknapbeurt.

Met een extra bed op de kamer werd het een beetje krap, maar opzich geen probleem. Om er te komen vanuit Ella kom je elke keer langs een vuilnisbelt, dat is wat jammer maar de geur ruik je bij het hotel niet

La vue est magnifique, grandiose, c'est très calme, le petit déjeuner est très copieux, le jardin agréable. D'un point de vue emplacement, c'est au calme sans être trop loin avec le raccourci des escaliers la guest est plus près que ce que je pensais (12 mns a la descente et vive les tuktuk pour remonter)

La salle de bain est vieillotte (peu de pression, joints vieillots), elle mériterait un rafraîchissement. Les moustiquaires trouées. Un mini frigo aurait été apprécié pour conserver l'eau des gourdes au frais et éviter d acheter des bouteilles et des séparations plus marquées sur les balcons avec les voisins

Yep - yet another guest here banging on about that view. Haha. But in all honesty it can't be overstated. Best of the best. Beautiful gardens too. Location is great - we did the Ella Rock hike from the door in 3 hour, and reached all the main sights on foot easily. The walk from town isn't as challenging as some folk have suggested. You'll be welcomed here like old friends :)

De ligging van het gasthuis is geweldig. Het uitzicht, de tuin, de natuur en de waterval: allemaal even prachtig. De kamers zijn ruim en goed gekoeld en je hebt een ruim balkon. Het personeel is heel vriendelijk en gastvri. Het ontbijt is prima. De stad is makkelijk te bereiken met een Tuktuk. Je kan er heerlijk eten.

Niets, maar als tip zou ik willen meegeven: de klamboes nakijken. Er zitten gaten in.

Absolutely incredible views - possibly the best in Ella! The staff were warm, friendly and helpful. It’s a short walk out of the main town but worth it for the view! The facilities themselves are more traditional home stay than modern hotel, but have lots of charm and it’s great value for money. We’d stay here again

It's got the best view in the entirety of Ella, hands down. The sense of comfort and belonging you get here is unmatched. The food is incredible too, one of the best in Sri Lanka!. Staff was so helpful and warm, made our experience better.

It's one of the oldest properties in Ella, hence the interiors and facilities are a little worn down. But doesn't take away much from the experience.

View is spectacular to watch the sunrise also. Adjoining balconies. Very friendly staff Gardens and vegetable patch were lovely and colourful showing great love and care Sri Lankan breakfast was good. Quiet.

Only one powerpoint and bathroom needed renovating. Room on the smaller side but still clean and adequate.

A wonderful hotel in an incredibly beautiful location. It was so beautiful that we even decided not to climb to the top of Little Adam's Peak, because we knew we wouldn't have seen anything more beautiful. We just wanted to sit on the terrace and take in the amazing views. The hotel is a bit far from Ella, but you can get to the town—which is also very lively and beautiful—very quickly and cheaply by tuk-tuk. In our group’s opinion, this hotel was the most beautiful one during our entire trip to Sri Lanka. Breakfast was delicious, and the staff was wonderfully helpful.

We love everything about Ambiente. We stayed here last year as well, so are return patrons. The view, the staff, the rooms - we love everything and will stay longer on any future holidays in Sri Lanka.

Having been to a few places with a view, this was the absolute best of the Little Adams’s peak , the valley and the Ella’s rock. Very nice and quiet - we had a bike so was easy to ride down to town for dinner/drinks. Staff was lovely and very helpful and even prepared breakfast to special dietry requirements. Rice and curry dinner was delicious and plentiful. Highly recommend if you are staying in Ella for a few nights.

This is a lovely place to stay with a beautiful view. You can get tuktuk easily to get to the town area, walking can be exhausting since the roads are steep.and windy. The staffs are exceptionally attentive and accommodating.

A beautiful older hotel overlooking one of the best views in Ella. An escape from the touristy town with wonderful gardens for breakfasts. Hosts were fab and even provided us with a 5am picnic to take up for our Ella rock hike.

Rooms were a little toasty with no A/C (we knew this when booking!) but it was not unpleasant at all!

10 million dollar view, nice rooms with balcony, extremely kind and helpful staff. Only small distance way from city crowds. Could not ask for more.

The view from the room really is unsurpassable, and the same for the sound of nature. The staff is very welcoming with a cup of tea upon arrival. They prepared a delicious breakfast each morning and even an ad hoc omelet after arriving unexpectedly late. The room was decent, a bit dated here and there, and the walls are thin, but more than acceptable for the price, especially taking into account the views and the overal natural beauty of the accomodation. It’s an easy tuktuk ride to Ella town (500 LKR was the cheapest I got). A special note: check at the train station for departures as Google Maps isn’t fully up-to-date.

Although I only noticed very few mosquitoes during my stay, there were dead mosquitoes on top of the mosquito net that weren’t removed. The net also had a few holes, just like the sheet.

Bij ons deed de fan het iets minder goed. Maar het koelt ook af s’nachts dus hadden er geen last van.

Best view you can ever have

Located in a serene, dreamy setting overlooking Ella Rock and Little Adam’s Peak this is the perfect spot for accessing the multitude of sights and amazing landscapes close to Ella, whilst having the calm, peace and solitude available to relax. The outdoor areas such as the gardens are beautifully maintained and offer a great place to set and watch the world and wildlife. Rooms are fairly basic, but comfortable with good storage and facilities for a few night’s stay. Shower and air con also pretty decent. All the staff including the general manager and owner were very helpful and friendly throughout the stay, offering great advice and being on-hand with any requests.

A little refresh would go a long way in the rooms. Our door had a gap at the bottom that could be fixed fairly cheaply. But a minor point. WiFi was very intermittent in the room, but the staff reset the router when asked.

This is a beautiful guest house nestled in the hills of Ella. The view from our room was like a postcard, and watching the sunrise over the hills from bed was a highlight. It’s a short, 10 minute walk down to Ella town with great restaurants and shops. We were also able to walk to all main attractions close to town such as Ella Rock, Little Adam’s Peak and the 9 Arches Bridge. Our host, Shanaka, was incredibly helpful and provided us with recommendations and advice on activities. Breakfast was wonderful too! We would definitely stay again when visiting Ella.

Vi hadde et fantastisk opphold på Ambiente Guest House. Vi følte oss velkomne, og atmosfæren var, rolig og hjemmekoselig. Personalet var vennlige og hjelpsomme, og servicen var utmerket. Man merker virkelig at de bryr seg om gjestene sine. Rommet var rent, komfortabelt, men det som virkelig gjorde oppholdet helt spesielt var utsikten, den var rett og slett magisk! Maten vi ble servert til frokost og middag var nydelig. Vi kan varmt anbefale dette stedet, og kommer gjerne tilbake!

The property is an older charming property set in the hills with the most amazing views. The staff are very welcoming and accommodating.

I couldn’t find fault with the property, it is older but clean. We loved it.

I really enjoyed my stay here. The view is absolutely beautiful and makes the place feel extra special. The location is quiet and peaceful and it’s still just a short distance to town (there are also some stairs nearby that work as shortcuts, making it very easy and quick to walk) The hotel staff were very kind and helpful...which made the experience even better. I truly felt welcomed and well taken care of. Overall, a great combination of calm surroundings, easy access to everything you need and excellent service. Highly recommended!

Our comfortable room and shared balcony had a magnificent view across the valley to Ella Rock. The hotel is set in a pretty garden with local wildlife. Staff friendly and helpful.

We spent two nights at Ambiente in Ella and had a really lovely stay (early January 2026). The hotel is located just a short walk from the centre of Ella and conveniently close to the railways tracks and hiking trails, and provides truly stunning views - overlooking Ella’s hills, the horizon and Ella Rock. The garden is wonderful and adds to the peaceful atmosphere. Breakfast was abundant and delicious, with plenty of choice and a great start to the day. The staff were extremely welcoming and helpful, always happy to assist with transport and to share tips about the area. A special mention goes to Shanaka, who truly made our stay unforgettable. He’s extremely attentive, responsive, knowledgeable, kind, and respectful — never overbearing, but always genuinely engaged. He made sure we were well taken care of from the first moment of our stay to our departure from Sri Lanka. Exactly the kind of person every great hotel needs on their team! Overall, a really pleasant stay with wonderful views and warm hospitality.

A few amenities could benefit from a bit of upkeep (mosquito nets in particular, parts of the bathroom), but it’s clear that a lot of care goes into the place anyway!

Amazing place with the best view we had in Sri Lanka. You can also see the train from the terrace (not the bridge, but in the mountains), so you don’t have to catch on the bridge. The room was clean with an entrance to the terrace. AC worked perfectly. Big comfortable bed. The breakfast was good, European rather than local (eggs with toasts, butter, jam, fruits, juice, coffee/tea) also with a great view on the mountains. The staff was very friendly.

Beautiful location well above the main town but a 10 minute walk down some shortcut stairs or a quick TukTuk ride back up. Hosts were extremely welcoming with tea, biscuits and fresh juice upon arrival. Room was spacious with extra large bed and a lovely mosquito net canopy. We had a small balcony where you can see the sunrise and views over Ella, depending on the mist. Their garden has many beautiful plantings and flowers and we enjoyed sitting and watching the scenery. We even did the Ella Rock walk right out the front door and down some side roads to the train tracks. Would highly recommend as a respite from the bustle of the main Ella town center.

Tuk Tuk sometimes wanted to over charge to take us back up, so a bit of negotiation is required.

Our stay at Ambiente Guest House was truly memorable and one of the highlights of our time in Ella. The guest house boasts a magnificent panoramic view, which can be enjoyed directly from the spacious rooms and their private terraces. Waking up to such scenery was an absolute pleasure. The rooms themselves are large, comfortable, and well maintained, offering a perfect balance of relaxation and privacy. However, what truly sets this place apart is the exceptional hospitality. The staff were incredibly kind, thoughtful, and attentive throughout our stay. In particular, Shanake deserves special mention for his genuine care and warmth. He consistently made sure that we were happy and comfortable, always serving with a sincere smile. His attentiveness extended even to small details — he noticed when we did not finish our breakfast and kindly checked in to ensure everything was alright, which speaks volumes about the level of personal care provided. Ambiente Guest House made our stay in Ella feel extra special, and we genuinely wished we had stayed for a few more days. I would highly recommend this guest house to anyone seeking comfort, breathtaking views, and heartfelt hospitality.

This place was not only charming but the views from our stay blew me and my friends away. It was amazing. Our stay was cozy and sweet with the friendliest staff. We also bonded with them and the owner, having tea with him. He gave us some special spots to visit where it’s not very touristy and more authentic experience as well as private. He’s got a cool uncle/grand uncle too!Very accommodating, friendly and human. I will be coming back here with my friends the next time I’m here again!

Beautiful and serene property with the most stunning views. Beds were romantic and very comfortable and all looked out onto the stunning views of the valley. It felt very dreamy waking up to this. The staff were exceptional and went above and beyond to ensure we were looked after. Breakfasts were delicious!

Some areas in the bathroom were a little tired. A bedside table w a lamp would be a good addition so you could read at night and had somewhere to put your water glass. But these are small details.

Der schönste Ausblick, den man sich vorstellen kann. Aus dem Bett kann man den Sonnenaufgang über dem Little Adams Peak beobachten. Der Wirt und das Personal sind ungeheuer freundlich, hilfsbereit und liebenswert. Das Frühstück ist sagenhaft gut und reichlich. Ein absolutes Muss.

Beside the amazing view, the best in whole SriLanka most likely, the manager was absolutely amazing. Priyantha truly understands what hospitality is. Great and huge breakfast. Amazing colorful garden. And did we mention the AMAZING view already ;-)

Amazing view and reasonably close to town

We asked for a double room but were put into triple room which was a bit cramped. Even though the weather is cooler, a fan would be good. Also lighting was dim so couldn't read at night. Bedside lights would be great.

The badrooms need a small ugrade

The view is more than amazing. I wont ever be able to forget that view. Its just beyond expectation. You can see Ella Rock and Little adams peak at the same time. Rooms were clean, breakfast was amazing. They were so helpful about everything. Location is 6 minutes tuk tum drive but you can walk easily when you are going to the center. However coming back is a little bit challenge since you need to hike to the up a little but. There is always tuk tuk available on the outside. Loved this place!!

This place is comfortable and the position is right at the beach, the owners are lovely people who make amazing food, the breakfast and dinner are great and large so be hungry.

Phantastic view to mountains and waterfall and nice garden and verandas. Quiet place nearby Ella town. Restaurants nearby.

Old buildings and interior. No light at the bed, no plugs in bathroom. The place has to be renovated und updated outside and in the rooms.

The guest house has an amazing view across Ella, it’s quite breathtaking especially at sunrise so make sure you’re up early to see it. It’s up the hill out of Ella which I liked. I arrived very unwell with the flu which wiped me out for 2 bed rest days in Ella. Being a solo traveller the staff were very sweet checking in on me, bringing me tea and offering to visit the pharmacy for me. The staff really do go above and beyond. The manager was very friendly and the owner a lovely guy who chatted with me over tea, some much needed company after 2 days in bed. Oh and Momo the dog was a great addition who loves attention.

It can be a little noisy with the road and all the stray dogs, but it didn’t bother me too much.
