Ella Rawana Resort

We didn't actually stay. So I've given average scores for things not used. We arrived but immediately rebooked. Our first impressions of the room was ok, though we didn't inspect it. The host was very welcoming and disappointed we weren't staying. We did pay for the booking, however, the location was impossible for us. This is not mentioned in the description. We made the owner and booking.com aware of this.

Unfortunately the access to the property is very difficult. It is high up a steep mountain. You need to be a goat to access it. The tuk tuks cannot get to the property. They have to stop 100ft below. Then there is a dirt track and random stones to climb up. There is another way up/ down to the lane which has some step steps but still on a dirt path, and still high up the mountain. This was impossible with luggage. We immediately searched and rebooked another place in the centre of Ella. It resulted in lost time and disrupted our plans.

Family is ever so friendly and helpful. They even sowed ripped shorts for me. Massive room Comfortable beds Terrace area is big, table, chairs and deckchairs a and had a power socket near the table Shampoo and shower gel in big bottles Hot water is fast Good breakfast and dinner

WiFi is very slow, we had to use our mobile data

The food that our host cooked for us was quite nice.

- Overall, DO NOT recommend as the host was unreachable, the room was very average and the location was far. - The location given is incorrect, it's 3 kms away and far from the city. Tuk tuks will not go there and it's very difficult to commute. We had to walk up the road in the evening which was quite scary as there are no streetlights. Or you will be dependent on the host to always arrange transportation. - No food options near the stay. - On day 2, we were told that the payment had to be made in cash. We assumed that it was paid via our card. When we asked for a card option, we were told that an additional charge would be placed on it. - No mosquito nets in the room and there are small insects like cockroaches, etc that will enter.

Had altijd koffie of thee klaar staan als we terug kwamen

Lovely host and peaceful location with a huge room

Narrow road was impossible for cars so we had to take a tuk tuk to the bottom on the day we left. As a pro, the narrow road added to the tranquility

We truly enjoyed our stay. The location was ideal, providing convenient access to nearby attractions. The food was outstanding, offering a wide range of tasty dishes that went beyond my expectations. The room was extremely comfortable, perfect for a relaxing getaway. A special thanks to Mrs. Damyanthi, whose friendliness and helpful guidance led us to some amazing spots. Her suggestions made our trip all the more memorable.

The property is unique to say the least. The host is extremely warm and made my family feel very comfortable. She even helped me with special requests and guided us to the house. The breakfast was delicious. Highly recommend this house.

The location is on a hill, which is quite slopey. But it was totally worth it.

An truly amazing place to be ,a peace of heaven Food was amazing we really enjoyed every moment spent on the property

We loved our stay here. The property is a very nicely presented homestay, with a separate entrance to the part of the house used by the family, on the side of a steep hill, surrounded by forest. The host is very kind and attentive, and it was lovely to see and hear the animals around us. The included breakfast of fresh fruit, pancakes/omelette and toast was great. The stay was excellent value for money.

We have no criticisms of the property at all, but visitors should be aware that it is a homestay, and is in quite a rural location, only accessible on foot for the last 100m or so, along a muddy and rocky path. Because the hill that it's on is very steep, it can only be reached by tuk tuk and not by car. We did walk into Ella once, but it took us closer to 1 hour (down one steep hill and up another), rather than the 35 minutes taken by other reviewers. It is a reasonably pleasant walk, but is unlikely to be a walk you'll want to do more than once or twice. Overall, we had a wonderful stay.

Peaceful home stay set on a hill side 30 minute walk from the centre. The room was very clean, the host lovely and we enjoyed the food and cookery class

The breakfast was delicious and the host went above and beyond to help us with everything. She always got us a driver when we needed him and even recommended us such a nice tuk tuk driver who took us everywhere we needed. The bed was very comfortable.

Nothing

Damauanthi also offered a Cooking Class that was the best I have ever had. The accommodation is modern and in a beautiful part of Ella. There are some stunning walks nearby.

All was perfect.

“I had a wonderful stay at this hotel. The location is perfect, offering easy access to nearby attractions. The food was exceptional, with a variety of delicious options that exceeded my expectations. The room was very nice—clean, comfortable, and well-appointed with all the amenities needed for a relaxing stay. A special mention to Mrs. Damyanthi, who was incredibly friendly and guided us to some fantastic places. Her recommendations made our trip even more enjoyable. I highly recommend this hotel and would definitely return!”

We had a great time with lots of wonderful experiences. She showed us local fruit and vegetables, harvested them together and even cooked with us in a joint cookery course (highly recommended). The breakfast with regional dishes was very tasty. She went to great lengths to make our stay as pleasant as possible.

The flat is located in a quiet neighbourhood on the mountain. Nevertheless, it was very easy to get to the city and you could also walk to beautiful destinations (Ravana Cave, Ravana Cave Temple). Due to the hillside location, there were power cuts from time to time, but these were not annoying.

It was a hidden gem, the room was very tidy with a new layout and good shower. The view of the jungle was amazing and we saw monkeys and bats. The lady was so welcoming and sweet she made us a really nice local dinner and made us feel at home.

Lots of bugs but this can’t be helped due to the location in the jungle. We didn’t realise breakfast wasn’t included and along with laundry, dinner was more expensive than we have paid elsewhere. This added up to be expensive in the end.

I recently had the pleasure of staying at Rawana Cave Lodge Homestay, and I must say, it was a truly remarkable experience. The food that was served was amazing and beyond expectations. From the moment I arrived, the hospitality and warmth of the staff made me feel right at home. A special mention goes to Damayanthi, whose exceptional service and attention to detail made my stay even more enjoyable. Her friendly demeanor and willingness to go above and beyond to ensure our comfort were truly commendable. Whether it was providing local recommendations, ensuring my room was perfectly prepared, or simply greeting us every day, Damayanthi exemplified the highest standards of customer service. The hotel itself was fantastic, with beautifully maintained rooms, modern amenities, and a serene ambiance that perfectly captured the essence of Sri Lankan hospitality and the staff were always attentive and accommodating. Overall, my stay at Rawana Cave Lodge Homestay exceeded all expectations, largely due to the outstanding service provided by Damayanthi and the rest of the hotel staff. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a perfect blend of comfort, luxury, and exceptional hospitality. I look forward to returning in the future!
