Tera Ella Boutique Hotel by SANS

Con este alojamiento tuvimos sentimientos encontrados. Cuando llegas es precioso, la habitación es una casita subida en la montaña y esta nueva. Sin embargo, la llegada en moto fue bastante complicada (da igual el medio de transporte que utilices para subir, tuktuk o coche es peor incluso que la moto). O eres un estupendo rider (como es nuestro caso) o da bastante miedo porque son sendas estrechas en cuesta llenas de grabilla o tierra, bastante inclinadas y no está apenas señalizado, por lo que es bastante difícil de encontrar. Lo que más nos gustó es la originalidad del sitio.

La accesibilidad fue lo peor, no está señalizado y el camino es bastante complicado. Tampoco nos dieron de cenar a pesar de haberlo avisado y tuvimos que andar por la montaña a altas horas de la noche para encontrar un sitio abierto. Había bastantes mosquitos en la habitación, lo cual es normal estando en mitad de las montañas de Ella.

I stayed here for 1 night and could not thank the hosts enough. For arranging a later breakfast for me as I wanted to spend the morning out, from allowing me a late check-out, nothing was too much hassle. It is a great property. Clean, Spacious and a gorgeous view and peaceful setting. Location not top just because the walk back to the property from Ella City is a little steep but not far at all, a 25min walk. Thank you so much.

I ragazzi che gestiscono la struttura sono meravigliosi, gentilissimi, sempre sorridenti, cordiali e disponibili. Peccato un po’ per la posizione scomoda. Nonostante ciò ci sentiamo di raccomandare caldamente questo hotel.

Abbiamo soggiornato per 4 giorni presso Tera Ella Boutique Hotel e ci siamo trovati davvero molto bene. La camera era pulita e molto spaziosa, con tutto il necessario. Il proprietario Sapun non ci ha fatto mancare nulla, sempre dispobile per indicarci percorsi/tour da fare, arrangiare tuk tuk e con uno sguardo sempre al nostro benessere e a farci vivere una bella esperienza! Grazie mille di tutto, super consigliato, torneremo sicuramente.

Todo en general, las vistas, comodidad, el servicio y el personal, fueron muy amables en todo momento y el desayuno! Era buenísimo.

La posizione è piuttosto scomoda: non risulta nemmeno sulle mappe e per raggiungere la struttura dal centro è stato necessario che venissero a prenderci con il tuk tuk, poiché in macchina non si arriva. La camera si è rivelata molto basica, con un bagno angusto e poco pulito. La classificazione a 4 stelle appare decisamente eccessiva: sarebbe più corretto definirla un affittacamere piuttosto che un hotel. La stanza era umida e priva di aria condizionata; fortunatamente la temperatura era più fresca rispetto al resto dello Sri Lanka. La colazione, servita in stile inglese, è stata lenta e poco curata. Nel complesso, l’esperienza non è stata all’altezza delle aspettative né della valutazione ufficiale della struttura.

Very clean, spacious and comfortable bed

It was far away from everything and it was difficult to access by Tuktuk because it was so steep up the mountain. The amount of money we spend on Tuktuk rides, was as high as the price of the stay.

Wir verbrachten 2 Nächte in diesem wunderbaren kleinen Boutique Hotel. Die Lage ist traumhaft schön, man hat einen herrlichen Blick auf die bergige Landschaft rund um Ella. Wir hatten ein sehr sauberes Häuschen (Cabana) mit riesigem Panoramafenster! Es wurde ein liebevoll zubereitetes srilankanisches Frühstück zubereitet! Besonders ist aber die außergewöhnliche Gastfreundschaft des Vermieters zu erwähnen. Er unterstützte uns in allen Belangen und war immer für uns da. Selbst nach unserer Abreise erkundigte er sich noch bei uns, ob denn unsere Reise nach Kandy gut verlaufen sei? Ein wunderschöner Aufenthalt! Wir bedanken uns noch einmal sehr für diese Gastfreundschaft!

Después de una experiencia muy negativa en otro alojamiento de Ella, llegar aquí fue como sentirse en casa. El chico que lo gestionaba fue increíblemente amable y servicial desde el primer momento. Nos ayudó incluso a encontrar el alojamiento, ya que la primera vez puede resultar algo complicado llegar. Siempre estuvo pendiente de nosotros e incluso fue al centro a comprarnos bebidas cuando lo necesitamos. El desayuno incluido era muy bueno y también nos ayudaron a encontrar un tuk tuk de confianza para varios momentos importantes de nuestra estancia. La habitación era amplia, acogedora y con unas vistas espectaculares a las montañas. Un lugar tranquilo, rodeado de naturaleza y perfecto para desconectar. Totalmente recomendable.

I had a wonderful stay at Tera Ella by SANS. The entire property has been beautifully renovated, and everything looks fresh, modern, and very well maintained. The rooms were clean, comfortable, and the atmosphere was peaceful. The staff were incredibly friendly, helpful, and always made sure we had everything we needed. A special thanks to the SANS management for their outstanding hospitality and professionalism. They truly go above and beyond to make guests feel welcome. I highly recommend Tera Ella by SANS to anyone visiting Ella. I will definitely be coming back!

Wir wurden mit Tee begrüßt und es gab sehr leckeres lokales Frühstück. Die Aussicht von der Veranda ist wunderschön, man kann den Sonnenaufgang genießen.

Die Anreise war mit dem Taxi schwierig, da die Zufahrt sehr eng und teilweise steil ist. Es hat aber geklappt. Die Betten waren sehr kurz, ca. 1,70 m.

Everything was great. The view from the room is breathtaking, you can have a clear view of the Ella rock from the balcony. The staffs were very cordial.

The location is a little bit remote. Very difficult to reach by car, tuktuks are suitable for the road. Everytime you have to get on car to go to any nearby places (like restaurants, shops etc)

Rooms were a nice size and all very clean. The stand out winner was the awesome view from the balcony as we stayed on the top floor. Breakfast was nice, all freshly made and plenty of it. Kids loved the swing in the balcony. Lovely for chilling in the morning watching the sun come up.

It’s not a dislike but need to mention the hard wall up the steps to get to the property. You can get a tuktuk but they charge more because of the location. The walk wasn’t an issue for us but if you have mobility issues or struggle with steps you may want to look at another place.

In den Zimmern mit Balkon ist die Aussicht grandios. Der Ausblick ist die Stufen wert. Gegen Aufpreis fährt der TukTuk Fahrer aber auch bis vor die Unterkunft. Ruhig und naturnah.

The view from the hotel was absolutely beautiful. Peaceful atmosphere with neat and cozy rooms. Great place to relax and enjoy nature.

The view from the balcony was amazing. The balcony was lovely and the beds looked lovely and were comfortable. The staff were very lovely.

The room was basic with gaps in the wall and a window that didn’t shut in the bathroom. The toilet smelt and we had to ask for toilet roll. The shower wasn’t hot and the water pressure was very poor. The towels provided were small, thin and scratchy and you couldn’t dry them so they remained wet. Had to pay for water. The house is up on the hill and is inaccessible by car. A lot of the tuk tuks refuse to go up there (very steep and uneven track) and those that do charge 1500 sr rupees.

They were very helpful with checking in and as we got lost they came and found us! Rooms were very clean and the patio area was lovely to sit and watch the wildlife and views. Breakfast was tasty and fresh.

Laundry was done but given back to us damp so we had to dry in the tuktuk on route to next property. But they did give us a discount because of this.

When we arrived we had to move rooms two times, but the third room was great. Clean, very good view, very comfortable. The staff was very kind and helpful the whole time.

It’s a little bit hard to reach on the very top of the mountain. It’s doable with a scooter or tuktuk, but not by car.

The view and the family hosting were amazing. Beautiful guests come along with the stay - like minded people 🙏 the rooms were huge, blankets and large balcony. Such a beautiful walk into town or there is a couple of nearby cafe/ restaurants with a good view too!

No hot water as was quite cool in the room. Wouldn’t recommend if you are not mobile / good on your feet, a lot of steep hills. So beautiful overall though if capable !

The most loveliest friendliest stuff I've ever met! The help us rent a bike, find us a taxi to another city. Great breakfast with a lot of fruits. Magnificent view to Ella's rock as well The room has a fridge, warm blankets, a kettle. Highly recommend!

The location is on a very steep hill. The tuktuks want triple the price if they take you all the way up or you can climb the last 150m by yourself on steep stairs. Not terrible but be prepared.

Nice rooms, beautiful scenery, very quiet and peaceful. The location of this property was like going off roading. The tuk tuks navigated the thin dirt roads amazingly and all part of the adventure. Staff were friendly and helpful.

I found the beds incredibly hard. No top sheet but I’m sure if I asked they would have given me one. Shower was a little hit and miss with hot water.

Para acceder al alojamiento con Tuk Tuk hay 2 caminos posibles, cada cual más difícil. La primera opción que te pone Google Maps es la más complicada y te lleva por una pendiente asfalto-tierra que ni los locales querían hacer. El segundo camino (que rodea la colina) no tiene tanta pendiente pero igualmente algunos locales se negaban a hacerlo o te pedían un suplemento para llevarte a la puerta. Si no querías pagar el extra te dejaban en la escalinata para que tú terminaras de subir más de 200 peldaños. Esto va como punto negativo porque desconocíamos la información descrita y nos hubiera gustado saberlo antes. No obstante, las vistas son espectaculares y seguramente repetiríamos el mismo alojamiento.

L’emplacement exceptionnel dans les hauteurs de Ella (difficile d’accès mais vaut le coup ++). Certaines chambres ont une vue à couper le souffle. Gentillesse des hôtes. Bon petit dej avec la vue.

The room its self was very nice and the view surrounding the property was brilliant. The staff were helpful when it came to sorting taxis to Ella City Centre. It was good that breakfast was included.

We arrived around 1310 (10mins after check in time) and was informed that our room was not ready and it will be another 30 minutes until it was. We realised this was not going to get done in half an hour as nobody entered the room whilst we were waiting. As a result we ventured into the city. I asked for the price of what a late check out would be to be taken off our final payment as I believed this was more than fair but any sort of compensation was nigh on impossible to gain. Whilst the breakfast was included I wouldn’t say it was anything special. It took a fair while to get served and on our second day we didn’t receive any tea or coffee with the breakfast and it also never filled us up. The location is further out that we thought and meant if we wanted to stay out in Ella later it was harder to get tuktuk back.

Man kan ikke blive kørt helt op til hotellet, men man kan gå en genvej op af nogle trapper. Derfor lidt svært at få sin baggage derop.

From the moment I arrived, I was welcomed with warm hospitality and a lovely cup of tea. The adventure of reaching the guesthouse by tuk-tuk felt like a fun ride in an amusement park due to the bumpy roads — while some may see that as a downside, I found it incredibly enjoyable and it added a unique touch to the experience. The view is absolutely breathtaking! You’re surrounded by nature — lush trees, mountains, fruit plants, and the calming sounds of birds. At night, the sky turns pitch black, making the stars shine incredibly bright — a magical and unforgettable sight. Breakfast was delicious and offered a delightful mix of different dishes, definitely worth trying!

There are insects around the area, so I recommend bringing insect repellent. It’s totally understandable though, considering the guesthouse is set in the heart of nature.

Pearl View is in a pretty location...although most of Ella is beautiful!. The price is very attractive for budget conscious travellers. It was nice knowing we were supporting a local family by staying here.

Tuk tuk driver's don't like coming to this property. It is located on a steep hill with some dirt tracks. We had to pay more to the driver's to consider coming here - not a massive deal considering tuk tuks are generally extremely cheap.

The view from the hotel is stunning, staff is very friendly and they do everything for their guests. Breakfast was wonderful and delicious and we even had dinner which was a lot of food and also very delicious. Our kids had a great time too.

We liked everything, but location is a bit hard to reach and a bit further away from the center, but we knew this before we booked. You have two options in Ella: stay in the village without views or stay at a hotel like this with amazing mountain views. We took a tuktuk to go the village which is easy.

Beautiful place, located on a hill.,The advantage of having a room there is absolutely amazing view on all sides. And the view is worth it👍 Owners incredibly nice and helpful. The breakfasts here were excellent. I definitely recommend this place.

We booked a room with balcony, on the arrival they told us that the room with balcony is in renovation. We got a another room which was good as well.

Views were amazing. Rooms were average with threadbare towels and breakfast was ok.

Lovely staff and great views high above Ella. Simple rooms good size for family of 4.The staff were really helpful showing us the footpath back down to the main road (another 15mins walk down road to Ella). Be aware cars will not make it up the track to the guesthouse but if you contact them they will meet you with tuk tuk at the main road to bring you and your bags and drop you back down. Good breakfast..

Lovely location and the lads running the place were enthusiastic and determined to make the visit easy and enjoyable. Pearl View was out of town, therefore quiet and the views were spectacular.

Pearl View was hard to find, poorly signed and the road leading up (from both directions) was something of an adventure both in regards of steepness and condition of the road especially with the poor signage making it something of a magical mystery tour. Ordered dinner at the property, for which they called for a take-away which took 2hrs to arrive by which time I'd given up!

Brilliant stay with a stunning view. Very good value and delicious breakfast. The family could not have been kinder. I accidentally left my bag on the train and they did everything they could to help. I will 100% be back to stay!

We booked the Deluxe Double room with balcony. The room was very big with a great view. Bathroom was large, modern and clean. Location was good, always short tuk tuk ride anywhere. Hosts were very friendly and helpful. They picked us up from the train station. Classic breakfast, nothing special but good. Expect some stairs to the upper rooms. Also a staircase gives access to the main road. (Expect stairs anywhere in Ella)

It was really far from anything. Not great option for us,as mum can't walk far or on uneven terrain. So we struggled. Nearest restaurants are a fair challenge away, many many steep steps down , again this is for us. If you are sprightly and fine and like isolation you will love it. No free or "reasonable " shuttle into town. There and back costs 2-3000lkr... which adds up. Breakfast was meh... shower was not powerful at all so showering was almost as pleasant as a sponge wash at a festival. Blankets were not washed but aired ... not great!

Really nice family run Guesthouse. Stunning location on the Mountain side. Terrific welcome, with a lovely cup of Cinnamon tea. The breakfast was fantastic and enough for 2. Beautifully cut fresh fruit and freshly squeezed juice. With pancakes, Omelette and toast. Proper set up for the day. The walk to the town, literally only took me 18 minutes and I finer walk you would be hard pressed to find. Although I wouldn't fancy it going home in the dark. Tuk tuks are abundant and drivers are all reasonable.

View is incredible. Rooms are simple, clean and similar to the pictures. Breakfast was very good and personnel is nice. Good to know: the accommodation is located on top of a hill in Ella and even with tuktuk you have to walk at least the last part of the way. Best option is to walk (~15-20min) till the city Centre when using the stairs. Reasonable fitness level advisable since the ~200 stairs are uneven and differ in height.

We didn't realise at the beginning that there is a shortcut to this place so we did some morning cardio before arriving there, but once we realised there is a shortcut, we skipped the sporty part ..;) The place is fantastic! We stayed there as a family of 7 (different rooms) and all the rooms were clean and comfortable to stay. You can wash & hang your clothes as well. The view is breathtaking and the breakfast was just an extra bonus we appreciated a lot:) thank you everyone, we are hoping to be able to return one day:)

What a stunning place, the views were out of this world, and the room looked brand new with large panoramic windows showing the whole vista, the bathroom facilities were excellent. The breakfast was delicious, and staff were so helpful.

We had a wonderful two-night stay (two rooms). The owner was incredibly helpful, arranging for our rooms to be next to each other. The rooms were spacious and comfortable, with clean, comfy beds. The highlight was undoubtedly the stunning sunrise views of the mountains and Adam's Peak, often with a beautiful morning mist. The location was perfect—close enough to the center for convenience, yet far enough to enjoy peace and quiet after a busy day. The welcoming drinks, delicious breakfasts, and laundry service were all much appreciated. Highly recommend!

The bathroom lacked hot water, and accessing the property proved challenging, requiring a tuk-tuk (though the owner helpfully arranged transport, especially considering our luggage).

If you're looking for accommodation that's a little out of the noisy centre of Ella, this is the place for you. The view of the mountains and deep into the valley is unique. It offers a quiet retreat and the hosts are very friendly and accommodating. We had consistently warm to hot water and wonderful sunrises. There was a brief power cut during our stay, but this was quickly rectified by power generators. The accommodation is very easy to reach by tuk-tuk and it is not suitable for walking from the centre. From the main road, a 150 metre long staircase, which is quite steep, leads up to the accommodation. A tuk-tuk to the stairs costs around 500 rupees. If you want to go directly to the accommodation by TukTuk, you will pay around 1000 rupees for the quite “adventurous” journey. Prices are slightly higher at night. The PickMe app only works to a limited extent in Ella, but you will find plenty of transport options on every corner. We had a very nice stay and are happy to recommend the accommodation to others.

The rooms are a bit noisy and the wifi is not very good.

The view was incredible. We had the top floor. A 5 minute walk from the road is steep but we enjoyed it but if it was raining would have been different. To get in by road is a lot longer and tricky for cars

The location elevated up so high from the road could be difficult in wet weather. Fortunately when we hired a scooter we only need to go along the dirt road once and left it at the bottom of the steps up which is quicker.
