Check in and check out are very easy to do yourself even if the staff is not present. They were very kind to allow me to leave my luggage at the hotel for a few hours after checkout. Amazing breakfast and service staff! Overall a beautiful stay and lovely experience!

Das viel gerühmte Frühstück entpuppte sich in unserem Fall bereits um 08.00 als Restposten-Buffet. Gipfeli hatte es noch eines und auch die restliche Auswahl sah sehr abgeräumt aus. Die nicht gerade freundliche Bedienung, kümmerte das Buffet wenig, nahm sie sich doch lieber Zeit für einen Kaffee und nicht gerade leisem und zurückhaltenden Kaffeeklatsch. Schade aber halt leider wie so oft Gastronomie Erlebnis "made in switzerland". Wenn schon ausländisches Personal, müsste es auch im CH-Modus geschult werden. Die Österreicher können es besser. Schade.

Man muss an Reception die Dame anrufen die dann von einem Stock höher herunter kommt, dabei wäre hinter der Rep auch ein Arbeitsraum In dieser Hitze wäre gut wenn im Zimmer ein Ventilator stehen würde.

Reviewed Jul 13, 2026Ich kam bei der Reception an und das Check-in war in 3 Sekunden erledigt. Ich bekam den Schlüssel ausgehändigt und konnte mein Zimmer beziehen. Also nicht noch gosses Bla-bla beim Check-in, sondern alles vorbereitet und gut ist. Die Zimmer sind nicht sehr gross. Das ist für dieses historische Gebäude absolut ok. Die Zimmer sind perfekt ausgerüstet, sie sind konsequent vom Gast aus gedacht: Steckdosen auf dem Nachttisch, perfekte Dusche - einfach alles einfach und logisch gehalten. Keine Minibar auf dem Zimmer, sondern eine grosse auf der Etage. Einfach perfekt!

Reviewed Jul 6, 2026Die Lage ist aussergewöhnlich. Zudem habe ich es sehr geschätzt, jederzeit Kaffee oder Tee zur Verfügung zu haben. Ich bin mit dem Fahrrad angereist und konnte dieses in einem abschliessbaren Raum abstellen, das war grossartig!

Preis für eine Nacht ist hoch, aber alles in allem ein schönes, gutes Hotel.

Reviewed Jul 3, 2026Wygodna łazienka z dużym prysznicem, dwiema umywalkami i dużo miejsca na półkach. Bardzo przyjazny personel i możliwość wcześniejszego zameldowania się gdy pokój był dostępny. Dobra lokalizacja, tylko 200 m od stacji kolejowej. Tradycyjne szwajcarskie śniadania z dużą ilością musli i owoców.
Mieliśmy apartament z dwiema sypialniami ale jedna sypialnia to była niska klitka pod skośnym dachem z bardzo małym okienkiem. Było niewygodnie i nie było czym oddychać. W hotelu nie ma klimatyzacji, więc latem jest bardzo gorąco.

Reviewed Jun 6, 2026A wonderful stay in the central area of Appenzell. The Hotel Lowen was a flat 5 minute walk from the train station and easy to find. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Our rooms were spacious, delightfully decorated (stayed in the historic section) and very comfortable. Beds were great and bathroom a good size with nice sized linens. Wifi was very good and there were ample number of sockets for charging my electronics, one was right by the bed. Lighting was excellent. The breakfast area was spacious as well with an excellent offering of food. Multiple dining and shopping opportunities were right outside our door and quiet walks were just four minutes away. Would stay here again if visiting Appenzell.

Leider war es in beiden Nächten vorgekommen, dass mehrere angetrunkene Gäste nach Mitternacht mit viel Lärm das Hotel betreten haben. Ich habe deshalb beide Nächte nicht gut geschlafen. Ein Zimmer war unter dem Dach und viel zu warm, konnte jedoch gewechselt werden.
