poor decoration and poor menu choice.
breakfast
Staff were exceptionally friendly helpful and the place offers old stool charm and hospitality. We enjoyed breakfast and since we booked this last minute as an alternative to a terrible experience elsewhere we were blown away by the quality for the price. A lovely garden and a welcome drink were nice bonuses. Very convenient and enjoyable.
Mostly lovely, but the z bed for our little one was a bit too soft and our room felt a little bit 'back of house' but more than nice for the price. Since we were just looking for somewhere to recharge for the night, it very much exceeded expectations.
Used for access to the The Open being held at Southport. We were contacted by the hotel a few weeks before asking if we would like an early breakfast on the day we were travelling in the morning. This was fantastic and really above and beyond. Room was large and comfortable
Friend staff, comfortable room, food food and convenience to motorway.
Breakfast was delicious as was the dinner we had during our stay.. can't fault any of it
The bed was too hard for me and not very comfortable
Lovely setting, good breakfast

The food was lovely. The staff were friendly. The building and surroundings were pretty.
The only thing missing was air conditioning.
Beautiful old building well maintained.
Nothing
Staff were excellent. All were friendly, helpful, professional and genuinely seemed to enjoy their jobs. There is no lift but a member of staff happily carried my case upstairs to my room. Plenty of parking. Rooms dated but spotless. Comfortable bed. Good breakfast options.
No lift.
There is great personnel and then there's Farington Lodge. Their calm, professional, friendly attitude is delightful and they're ready to solve even the most ridiculously difficult problem. I won't go into details but they found something that we had lost despite it being a lost cause!
Absolutely nothing
Very friendly helpful staff, quick service. Peaceful location, Attractive building and garden. Easy parking.
Nothing we can think of.
We enjoyed our stay; the staff were excellent, and the food was excellent too. The room we had, 22, was large, with a small TV for the room size. I think the room required updating. Bed very uncomfortable (low and hard), and dust was sitting in the folds of the red velvet curtains.
The staff were extremely warm and helpful. Breakfast was tasty and the bed comfortable.
The Farington Lodge is extremely dated and in need of rejuvenation. The first room we stayed in was clean, albeit dated with damp spots around the ceiling. During our stay it was 32 degrees and none of the bedrooms have air-conditioning. Some of the windows were also sealed shut and unable to be opened. This made getting ready and attempting to sleep in the room unbearable. When we asked whether there was a fan available, we were told they didn’t have any. We had to request to stay in a different room, which was slightly cooler and the windows could open. Again, the room was clean but very dated. We slept with the window open due to the heat and at around 08:30am, gardening work began right outside with a leaf blower going for around an hour. Upon check out, the cleaning staff had started tidying the rooms with the doors open. We noticed each room being cleaned had a working fan in the room, being used by the staff. Slightly frustrating as when we asked for this, we were told that there were no fans available. I wouldn’t stay at the Farington Lodge again. It’s dated aesthetic doesn’t allow for a feeling of a modern, luxury stay.
Wij hadden een hele ruime kamer aan de koele en rustige zijde van het gebouw ver weg van de festiviteiten/evenementen
Farington Lodge Hotel is excellent giving a comfortable and relaxing stay in an ideal location, meals were first class and good value, we look forward to our next visit.
The shower in our room would benefit from some upgrading.
Loved the room we had and the reception staff were really helpful and friendly.
The food was particularly below par for such a nice establishment. Overcooked fried eggs (rubbery texture), microwaved scrambled eggs, very dry black pudding, probably microwaved. The reception staff were appropriately dressed but the bar manager/restaurant manager needs help in this direction. In short, apart from the nice room, the nice reception staff, the premier inn serves better food.
Rooms were modern and clean. Great bar and the food was excellent.
No gym or pool. I read online that the hotel used to have an arrangement with FX Leisure Club. But reception wasn't aware when I asked.
Location, the property and staff were excellent. Food was good.
Cleaniness of the room could improve. Curtains and nets were dirty and could do with replacing. Shower tray wasn't very clean and could do with replacing. Room would benefit from redecorating.
The hotel was lovely and the rooms were huge, breakfast was good and the staff very friendly. The bathroom was great so big and the shower was excellent.
Nothing
lovely friendly staff beautiful gardend for the dogs
The Bath the plug is right in the middle and and sticks up to the detrement of my bum!! Sack the bathroom designer!!!
Faded grandeur. Very clean. Attentive staff. Excellent breakfasts
Room was stiflingly hot. Fish and chips was large portion but the fish was overcooked to the point of being dry.
Beautiful old hotel with original features. The bedrooms are massive. Lovely gardens. Friendly staff.
Rooms a bit warm however a fan was available which helped. Breakfast was over early 7 to 8.30.
room really spacious, and comfortable. Breakfast was brilliant, one of the better breakfasts i've had at hotels hotel tucked away nicely and not on a main road etc, so super quiet, but super easy to reach
beer selection at the bar was a little weak.
Food was very good
My room was nothing like the photos when I booked
Staff fantastic, best asset. Rooms spacious which was helpful when no aircon. Pillows thin and hard and drainage from shower and basin very slow leaving a scum. Breakfast excellent. Parking great. Gardens lovely. Location great.
Shower and basin drainage, better products, better pillows.
Good breakfast, evening meal and the staff were good too. Strong value for money, peaceful location close to m6.
The staff were excellent !!
Farington Lodge is a beautiful building with lovely ground, but what stood out most for me was that dogs aren't just an after thought, they are welcomed. The grounds has numerous dog waste bins dotted around. There were dog treats in the room on arrival. The receptionist asked our dog's name before we'd even brought him into the building. We were allocated room 2, a downstairs room at the end of a corridor. We were told to use the fire exit door next to our room to access the grounds if our dog needed the toilet (particularly at night), to save us from having to walk him through the hotel. A staff member recognised that our dog was being reactive as he wasn't enjoying being somewhere new around lots of people, so they set-up a private breakfast table in the empty bar area for us. Another staff member was so kind as she brought him a sausage and even cut it up and fed it to him by hand!
Some parts of the hotel are looking a bit sorry for themselves and could do with modernising or updating.
Size and cleanliness of the room, together with its proximity to The Open golf at Birkdale
The temperature regulator on the shower was not working meaning that we nearly got scolded when taking a shower as we could not access any cold water. This was terrible following a day out in nearly 30 degrees of heat. The shower water was so hot we could have got burnt in it. Despite complaining to reception on the early evening before departure, nothing was done, no fresh towels and the water still nearly scolded us next morning. Also needed access back into the room on the morning of departure and the key snapped in the room door. We had left a phone chargher in the room. Reception promised to ring us once they accessed the room to discuss recovery of the phone charger but as yet, 4 days later we have heard nothing. NOT IMPRESSED
Allocation was good
Booking was made and when we arrived we were given out room number, when we got to the room we saw a fan blowing and it must have been over 30 degrees C, non of the 3 windows would open, this must also be a fire safety hazard as the only escape was the front door, Health and Safety need to be told
One night stay in transit to Scotland. Coveniently located very close to M6. Plenty of free parking.
Must have been a very attractive building at one time but now a slightly run down commercial hotel located next to an industrial complex.
Ample space and roomy feel to the superior room with excellent facilities . Food was really good with comprehensive choices for all. All Staff were friendly and helpful throughout our stay, Friends in the area so I would envisage further stays, many thanks, Kevin and Barbara

A comfortable and spacious hotel with great service. The team were so friendly and helpful. I would recommend this hotel.
Lovely hotel in peaceful setting yet just off the M6. Good food. Exceptionally friendly and helpful staff. Lots of parking.

Staff excellent Location Surroundings Breakfast Big room
Room extremely hot ( July warm spell ) . Even with fans and windows open , the room unbearable . Very difficult to sleep . No aircon in the room.
The general building and gardens were excellent. The dining room was very nice (a beautiful room for breakfast). Also, the breakfast was excellent. The staff were friendly and receptive. The room was excptionally clean.
For a 4 star hotel, there were many aspects that were more like 2-star. For example, in the bathroom, many tiles were cracked. In the bedroom, in places (near the window), the paint was falling off. The ironing board has a big stain. When we stayed, the weather was excellent (30 degrees). However, the room had no ventillation (windows could not open more than a small amount and there was no air con). We did have a fan, but the heat was unbearable. Furthermore, the shower did not work. There appeared to be no cold water. Luckily, there was a bath in the bathroom.
Good breakfast. Lovely surroundings
It was stiflingly hot (no one's fault) and the room would have benefited from a fan,
Room size was good. Meal and breakfast were very good.
Shower cubicle small and water wasn't v hot. Extremely hot in bedroom unfortunately, there was a fan to use but still uncomfortably hot.
Lovely building and grounds
Room very hot stayed in a heatwave, no fans for the room and unable to open windows, did not sleep some guests went home during the night
Property very nice have stayed here before
You could only pay by card do not accept cash
The room was OK but very dated, the TV was last century and small it was a big room. The decor needed refreshing. The location was great as we travelled to see family who live 8 mins away.
Breakfast was poor all round, no black pudding which I was looking forward to, bacon was over cooked, egg was over cooked all in all not great at all. There had been a wedding on and it seemed that normal guests were not correctly catered for, breakfast when received was just warm and took far too long to come out.
We stayed here for one evening with my parents and our dog on our way home from Cornwall and had a lovely stay. The staff were all so welcoming and friendly. We really appreciated the thoughtful touches for our dog, especially the water bowl and bag of treats in our room. It’s a comfortable hotel with excellent service. We’d happily stay again.
Location and the hotel itself was fab
The staff, without exception, were excellent

Wonderful staff, beautiful hotel, a really great stay
I cannot think of anything, it was all good.
Lovely hotel in a great location, very comfortable. All the staff are friendly and attentive making you feel welcome and valued. Lovely breakfast, great choice and, again, felt well looked after. Overall, really happy with the service received and price paid.
Nothing of note

I loved the beautiful garden, the garden room, and the whole hotel had a nice feel about it.
Only negatives were the disappointing evening meal and the unfortunate fire alarm going off when we were asleep culminating in us rushing to the carpark until it was resolved.
We enjoyed our stay overall. The hotel was clean, comfortable, and in a good location. The staff were friendly, and the room was well presented. Despite the issues mentioned, we had a pleasant stay and appreciated the hotel's facilities and atmosphere.
What we didn't like was arriving after a long drive from London and finding that there was no water provided in the room and no fridge. A bottle of complimentary water would have made guests feel more welcome. We were also unhappy that the window lock could not be opened, which meant we could not get fresh air into the room. These may seem like small issues, but they affected our first impression and overall comfort during our stay.
The food was excellent, both dinner and breakfast. The staff were friendly and cheerful. The building is well furnished with interesting items. The grounds were well looked after, but it was raining so I did not explore.
The weather!
Is a lovely old building and parking was excellent, the majority of staff were helpful in particular the bar staff on the night , the breakfast was excellent but did have to wait due to a wedding party having breakfast at the same time , which is understandable but not an excuse to keep other guests waiting.
The whole hotel is old and dated, the common areas such as corridors , carpets and general decorations need refurbishing. The room we stayed in had a double bed although advertised as a king (room 3) and when we asked if there was a room with a king I was told it was a uk king and we’re not in America 🤬 by the reception staff, at some additional expense we booked the room for that reason to get the larger bed. The bedroom itself is also very dated with no USB charging and no plugs near the bed for phone charging, the Tv is an old very small wall mounted Tv with no Smart function, the Wi-fi on the other hand was strong and stable, the bathroom was again dated but functional, following our complaint at checkout the hotel has emailed us to offer a 10% discount if we stay again as compensation. I was told on check in that if I booked directly and not through booking.com it would be 10% cheaper anyway so no compensation really 🤔
Lovely building Very welcoming.
TV too small for room.
Beautiful hotel
The staff were superb and the breakfasts were excellent.
A step from the bedroom into the bathroom. The bathroom door would not close without locking and I was unable to lock it due to arthritis.
Very clean and comfortable, very helpful and polite staff
No lift
The property is very tranquil. The rooms are comfortably laid out with what a traveler might need. The staff are welcoming, friendly and helpful. Dining and lounging was very good and convenient.
Verry nice place to stay only issue was our door wouldn't open properly but apart from that everything was excellent
Its a lovely old house. The staff were pleasant and helpful
The toilet had been used and not flushed. The tv was not working. Previously the rooms had a fridge but have been removed. There was no airconditioning ( it was a warm night during the May heatwave). The breakfast spread did not compare well with other places we use ( all at better prices) though the cooked breakfast was fine. All in all, in comparison to similar establishments that we use, it was overpriced.
Perfectly located in a quiet and peaceful setting.
Nothing to dislike but could possibly benefit from a refresh.
We liked the old fashioned style lodge . The breakfast offered a lovely selection & it was nice to have a bar facility & evening meal if required. The gardens were lovely . The staff were all very friendly & welcoming .
No air conditioning, or ceiling fans . We arrived during a heat wave so it was very hot in the room .
Warm and welcoming staff Comfy bed Lovely breakfast
Air conditioning could have been better
Super close to M6 but also peaceful and beautiful. Staff outstanding !

Staff, lovely room, easy parking, food
Comfortable and clean with charm and character
Lovely hotel, excellent and welcoming staff
Personeel en de ambiance
Beautiful building, well maintained and comfortable stay. Delicious evening meal and breakfast the next morning. Very helpful and welcoming staff.
Nothing to dislike!
Real nice hotel with tradition. Fantastic location. The room was spacious, clean, all amenities available. Also the bath was OK, which is not always self-understanding in old buildings. Good service, very supportive and friendly staff. Plenty car parking space. Would always come again.
Quiet. Pleasant surroundings.
Room doors that don’t close quietly. Guests returning to their rooms late slam door. Most hotels have this problem.
spacious,
noise from a compare late at night. must have been in a function room. try filling up the kettle from the tiny sink
