It's like boutique hotel. Beautiful ambiance and environment. Very convenient to have the waterfall near. The facilities were nice and the pool amazing. The staff were amazing, service 5 stars . Tuktuk service is a plus. Food was good.

Beautifully maintained property, exceptional gardens. Loved hearing birdsong and watching monkeys and even peacocks in the trees. Saw a huge eagle circling overhead one day. Staff were exceptionally warm, friendly and helpful. Food was awesome - both western and Sri Lankan. We stayed with 2 kids who both really enjoyed it. It’s near Ravana adventure park and the blue cave trips. 20 mins out of Ella.

Slightly dubious WiFi intermittently. For us we might’ve been better situated in Ella for various reasons but this is on us not the property.

This was my second time staying with Planters Bungalow. The establishment is first rate. Rooms and facilities are fantastic. Close enough to Ella to get to things easily but far enough away to be tranquil and unhurried.

Food selection was minimal and it the same over many days. Expensive dinner dishes featuring meat or fish were overcooked and tough. However these are not Sri Lankan dishes so I shouldn’t hold them to such high standards…..

Prachtig gelegen accommodatie met mooi uitzicht. Mooie huisjes en prima restaurant met pooltafel. Verder een volleybal of badminton net.

Gordijnen waren niet donker genoeg voor in de ochtend, vroeg wakker dus!

Breakfast was lovely - served outside with stunning views. Fruit platter followed by eggs served as you chose, bacon and sausages, toast, coconut parathas and mini pancakes. Coffee and tea. Just a great way to start the day.

There wasn’t really anything to not like.

Mooi nieuw gebouw als receptie, wij zaten in een bungalow met 4 personen. Het was groot, schoon en netjes. Het was her en der iets verouderd. Personeel was super! Ontbijt serveren ze uit, persoonlijk vind ik dat minder prettig, omdat er vaak veel te veel komt en er veel overblijft.

Voor ons was de locatie te afgelegen. Alhoewel we dit wisten, was het 20 minuten naar Ella.

We had such a wonderful stay at Ella Planters Bungalow. The service was exceptional — everyone was so friendly, welcoming, and always willing to help with anything we needed. The variety of food and drinks available was amazing, and the quality was even better. We honestly had some of the best meals we’ve eaten during our time in Sri Lanka. Every dish was delicious and made the experience even more special. The bungalow is located about a 20-minute drive outside of Ella town, which we loved because it gives you the perfect escape from the busyness. Surrounded by nature, it’s peaceful, quiet, and you truly feel immersed in the beauty of Sri Lanka. We would highly recommend Ella Planters Bungalow to anyone looking for a relaxing stay, incredible food, and genuine Sri Lankan hospitality.

This hotel is beautiful. We were kindly offered an upgraded room, and even though our original room was also lovely, we took the upgrade as it was even more spacious and had an incredible view over the mountains. We absolutely loved the breakfasts, friendly staff and great service. The pool is lovely and there are so many great seating areas around the hotel. It's a little away from Ella but we'll worth the 20 minute drive past the Ravana waterfall. The hotel has a tuk tuk that can pick you up from the train or drop you into town for a small fee. We had a really delicious meal in the upstairs restaurant area too.

We chose this hotel on a friend's recommendation, and it exceeded all our expectations. From the very moment we arrived, everything was delightful – the warm welcome, the elegant atmosphere, and attention to every little detail. The nature here is absolutely fantastic – lush greenery, bright flowers, and breathtaking views. What we remembered most was the birdsong in the mornings – a true symphony of chirping, trills, and melodic voices. It was so pleasant to have breakfast outside while listening to those birds – it was real therapy for the soul. The staff were incredibly friendly and did everything to make us feel at home. Breakfasts were a real treat: fresh, varied, and very tasty. Honestly, every moment of our stay was wonderful – from check-in to check-out. If you're looking for a place that combines comfort, charm, stunning nature, and the sweetest birdsong – this is it. We're already planning to come back! We recommend it without the slightest hesitation.

L’hôtel est situé dans une ancienne maison de planteur britannique. Bungalow signifie en fait maison ici. Quelques chambres dans l’ancienne maison , très agréables; et quelques chambres dans des parties récentes avec une superbe vue sur la vallée. Le personnel nombreux par rapport au nombre de chambres est très serviable et attentionné. La piscine est agréable en fin de journée. La salle de restaurant est également bien décorée avec un billard. Le jardin en terrasse est assez agréable également.

L’hôtel est situé à 30 min de Ella (route de montagne) : l’avantage est qu’il est au calme loin de l’agitation du centre de Ella. Il y a une mosquée juste à côté que l’on entend vers 5 heures du matin. On s’y habitue … ou pas, Il vous en coûtera 7500 roupies , en passant par l’hôtel, pour un aller-retour en voiture pour y passer la soirée, ce qui est assez cher. Le petit déjeuner est bon mais compte tenu du nombre limité de chambre, il est imposé sans choix possible.

Absolutely stunning location, a good 20 minutes from the centre of Ella but worth it for the peace and tranquility. Beautiful breakfast surrounded by wildlife and lush forest. Great accommodation, clean and comfortable and full of character.

Everything was perfect.

Very friendly staff, especially the Manager Jagath. He pays attention to details and responds to your requests and needs. Location is generally quiet, except for one room facing the freeway, where you can hear some traffic. There is a religious ceremony every morning between 5-6 am, but my daughter said she slept through with no problems. The villa is well-maintained, and breakfast was lovely, with a great variety. We also had dinner once there, in a very pleasant environment.

The location of Planters bungalow is amazing..20 mins out of bustling Ella town . Overlooking tree tops , hills and forest . Monkeys , squirrels. Great pool to cool off after a day exploring .

When we arrived we were told that due to renovations our rooms were not available . My husband, son and sister were all “ upgraded “ to a mountain view room but 4 of us was too much for this space . Also no desk or table to set up computers ( working holiday ) which was available in the room ms we had booked . We were not told about this till we arrived . Very poor communication. Water and electricity switched off for renovation and we were not informed so no showers and air conditioning..a simple thing just to inform us so we could be prepared . Also due to renovations the kitchen was a long way away from the tables . All outdoor tables -ok for us but some people need indoor dining. The staff were beautiful.. couldn’t do enough for us and worked very hard due to extra demands. We are looking forward to seeing how the new renovations look and can come back to really enjoy this place . Management apologised and helped us out in the end . Thanks Jagath and team .

The property has incredible views - you are in the middle of the nature. The staff was very humble and their service was very excellent. They did everything they could to make sure the stay was comfortable. Several workers were busy making sure the lawn and property was clean on the outside in the morning.

The place is very far from the city. It is a a house converted to rent. The bathroom was not very clean - had some mold issues. The juice served was stale. decorations were tasteful but there is a lot to be desired from the property.

Wonderful in facilities and staff. Our stay was magical. Special thanks to the two managers and the kind driver who picked us up from kandy and brought us to the hotel. Every aspect of our stay and the grounds and room were of the highest order. I will come back for a longer visit.

Our stay at the hotel in Ella was wonderful. Everything was perfect from start to finish. The staff were very friendly and helpful, always ready to assist us with anything we needed, which made our stay even more comfortable. The airport transfer took around 7 hours. It was a long journey, but it was well organized and comfortable. The food in the restaurant was delicious — we really enjoyed the quality and variety of the dishes. The views around the hotel are absolutely stunning: beautiful mountains, lush greenery, and a very peaceful atmosphere. We truly enjoyed our stay and would happily return again.

Planters is a beautiful and an idyllic place to stay, allowing you to relax and reset whilst still easy access to Ella and surrounding areas with the help of the hotel to arrange tuk tuks. The staff were very attentive and helpful. Breakfast is delicious. Our room was stunning.

There’s real potential here for the hotel to become more of a destination for food given the setting and relative isolation however we felt our meals outside of breakfast were a bit lacking and too slow.

Hotellet är mycket finare än på bilderna och personalen är väldigt ödmjuka och professionella. Vi kände oss så omhändertagna! Både frukosten och maten var toppen. Hotellet känns lyxigt och allt är rent och fint. Vackra omgivningar där vi fick se både varaner och apor.

Det ligger ett kloster i närheten där bönen startar ca 05.00 på morgonen. Vi vaknade av det första morgonen men andra morgonen hörde vi det inte alls.

Beautiful setting and property, and the staff and service were exceptional

Scenic views from the location. One villa was stunning.

One villa was quite dated in comparison to other one we has booked. The dinner meal was disappointing. Main manager was friendly but most other staff less so. The atmosphere was a bit low key in the upstairs area and surprised had smoking was allowed in this area were people were eating.

The staff were great and did everything they could to help us if needed. They built up a lovely rapport with our children which made the whole experience more relaxing. We had beautiful views from the room and the beds were comfortable. The standard of cleanliness was excellent. Watching the sunrise was a real highlight.

Between 5 & 6am you can hear chanting from a nearby temple. Nothing the hotel can do about this. It only disturbed us on the first morning but we quickly got used to it and slept very comfortably.

Fabulous location about 20 minutes from central Ella. Views are incredible. Very close to Parawella waterfall which is worth the effort. Unspoilt and local. We would stay here again. Nice pool and comfortable rooms. Breakfast is good too.

We had a wonderful stay at Planter Bungalow in Ella! The staff were exceptionally friendly and welcoming — their genuine warmth made us feel right at home from the moment we arrived. The rooms were spacious, spotless, and very comfortable, especially the beds which offered a great night’s sleep. The villa is beautifully tucked away in nature, offering peace, privacy, and stunning surroundings — perfect for a quiet getaway.

The only downside was the swimming pool, which had slightly milky water during our stay and felt a bit off-putting.

Basic amenities that you would expect from a hotel were missing. Very basic breakfast, staff require more training and investment in the development of their skills

Upgraded on arrival which was greatly appreciated. The original bungalow is some 150 years old but new additional rooms added within the grounds. Lovely pool with outdoor setting for breakfast / meals. Secluded and only 10 rooms in total so very peaceful and lovely surrounding mountains.

Bella struttura un po’ fuori dal centro

Our room was perfect for us, two ladies travelling together. From our balcony we could see into the valley and across to the mountains for sunrise. The staff were so attentive, polite and efficient. The food was great. Everything was clean and comfortable.

Really nothing we didn’t like. Some people might find it too far from Ella, but they will arrange transport etc.

Het appartement was lekker ruim, mooi en schoon. De tuin is prachtig! En het uitzicht ook! Leuk dat er aapjes op bezoek komen. Goed eten, lekker ontbijt. Personeel is vriendelijk.

Er was geen receptie of restaurant, maar ik denk dat ze die aan het verbouwen waren. Wc rook niet heel fris en spoelde niet goed door.

Virkelig sødt personale! Vi blev endda opgraderet til et bedre værelse ved ankomst. Mega hyggelig stemning og væk fra larm. 15-20 min i tuktuk til Ella by. Hotellet har mulighed for at hjælpe dig med transporten.

Poolen var helt mælkehvid, og der er ikke rengøring hver dag.

We appreciated that one of the rooms was upgraded. The room she was supposed to get was shown and she said that it was basic. The view was amazing The shower was good with good hot water.

My Husband and I had the apartment. I really did not like the small kitchen area, even though we had no intention of cooking. It was not modern. It way it was put together was a bit basic. The price paid for the apartment was unjustified. The Bungalow was 25-30 minutes away from the town. Nearly 10 km. Didn’t like the Breakfast. Food was always cold

Schitterende groene omgeving en een heerlijk zwembad. We sliepen in de bungalow en die was enorm groot en authentiek ingericht. Personeel was vriendelijk.

Door een verbouwing was er geen lobby en geen echt restaurant. Dit schijnt over een maand klaar te zijn.

Wir hatten das Zimmer Tree Top mit einer perfekten Aussicht! Das Hotel ist sehr schön eingerichtet und sauber! Der Oberkellner war sehr freundlich und stets zuvorkommend. Ein paar hundert Meter entfernt sind zwei abenteuerliche Wasserfälle. Definitiv einen Besuch wert! Einen Tuc Tuc Service gibt es am Hotel zu wirklich fairen Preisen! Fahrt nach Ella 20min. Ab und zu kommt eine liebe Affengruppe im Hotel vorbei, futtert die Früchte aus den Bäumen und toben im Garten. Wirklich ein Schauspiel!

Leider haben wir jedesmal sehr lange auf Pooltücher und Getränke am Pool warten müssen. Hier besteht definitiv Verbesserungsbedarf. Morgens zum Sonnenaufgang ruft der Muezzin. Dessen sollte man sich bewusst sein. Allerdings verpasst man so keinen Sonnenaufgang vom Bett aus 😜

Lovely beautiful and peaceful location with wonderful views and lovely rooms. Was wonderful to wake up to and ate breakfast on the balcony admiring the hills. Ella is very busy and planters bungalow is in a much more chilled location, so glad we stayed here instead! Food was lovely too. A great experience.

The location is sublime - our room had panoramic views and we enjoyed watching the wildlife, particularly the monkeys swinging in the tree canopy. Our room was spacious, exceptionally clean and comfortable. The staff are warm, welcoming and friendly. A highly recommended stay.

A common area to enjoy a drink or relax with a book in the bungalow itself would have been good, however our balcony was gorgeous.

The location was stunning, rooms were good and the service was exceptional. Every member of staff wanted to help if they could.

There was building work going on to build a new kitchen. It was a bit noisy but luckily we were out exploring each day so didn’t impact us too much. If you wanted downtime at the accommodation it would have been noisy from our rooms but other rooms nearer to the pool wouldn’t have been impacted as much.

The gardens are exceptional and the setting is stunning.

Rooms a little dated and you need to be prepared for some bugs in the rooms due to the proximity to the jungle. Some building work going on at the property which starts early in the morning and detracted a little from our stay.

The pool was cold. We had an unfortunate experience where one of us got locked in the bathroom due to a faulty latch. The staff assisted in opening the door for us. There was also a brief power outage which coincidentally happened when we were locked in the bathroom.

Het hotel had grote kamers, was prachtig gelegen, midden in de natuur op 15 mins van het centrum. In de omgeving zijn erg veel leuke dingen te doen! Het personeel was heel erg gastvrij.

The view and the gardens were excellent. The location is quite lovely. There is a good pool at the hotel.

The kitchen is currently far from the dining area, therefore that meals were delayed and cold. There are renovations happening to move the kitchen close. The work is noisy and disruptive. The hotel will be much better when they are finished.
