meeting the owner and history of the bus well set out
well set out different from a unitn
A lovely quirky stay for two nights in this self contained double decker bus. Victoria welcomed us with a full history of the vehicle and some local information. The bus is fully equipped for self catering if you need it.
My husband found the headroom upstairs and the stairs a little challenging. It was quite chilly in the evening, so not for him
Very clean and the bed was extremely comfortable! Would stay again!!
We loved staying in an old bus. We like quirky. Victoria was very helpful, welcoming, and correspondence was good. Proximity to Queenstown is good, and only a short drive.
Not so keen on the position on the road. But on reflection, it was quiet. Be aware the bus is very old, but we think the price is right.
Loved the area, the novelty, good facilities, toilet is plumbed in!! Bed had lots of nice blankets.
I'm very tall for a female so I did have to duck quite a bit which is okay haha.
It is a very novel stay and a little quirky but very nice it would be a bit cold in the winter though.
Nothing everything was explained to us when we arrived.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Review This stay was truly one of the most special experiences of my life. Sleeping in a red double-decker bus was something I had never imagined, and it turned out to be absolutely magical. The bus is thoughtfully equipped — hot water for coffee, a clean bathroom, a cozy sofa — everything you need, yet with such a unique charm. What I will remember most is lying inside the bus, quietly watching the mountains of Queenstown through the windows, as the light slowly changed from daytime to night. The world felt calm, still, and unbelievably beautiful. It’s a feeling that’s hard to put into words. This place is not just accommodation, it’s a memory I will carry with me for a very long time. Thank you for creating something so unique and special. I would give it more than five stars if I could.
Very special historic decker bus. Cozier than I thought. Very quiet and safe. They provide almost everything you need, even an air fryer! Very friendly staff, easy to talk to, and sent me a certificate!
Not at downtown, so only convenient for self-driving people. I rent a car, so not a big problem for me.
A truly unique experience!
As bus people from England, it was great stay in the former Hants and Dorset bus with so much history. Thank you to the hosts for sharing their incredible life stories. The local pub was excellent for dinner and breakfast. All in all, a great stay.
I loved the novelty of staying in a London Double Decker Bus. It was warm, clean and tidy. Brand new appliances. Tea and Coffee provided as well as shower items. Quiet area but still close to shops and Queenstown.
We loved the quirky bus and communication was excellent!
This was a truly unique and fun experience! The red double decker has a rich history and everything you might need for a comfortable stay. The bus is located in a nice and quiet neighborhood with a mountain view. Victoria is a wonderful and very welcoming host! Highly recommend this place to anyone looking for an off-the-beaten-path experience! :)
Shower temperature was a little inconsistent.
Wow Decker Daze Big Red Bus!!! an excellent stay highly recommend. Host was warm & welcoming, location so relaxing & free parking alongside the bus. Shower was excellent!!! Top deck was brilliant!!! Loved sitting at the front, sitting on the middle leather sofa & also lovely the warm & cosy sleeping area at the back!!! Host Victoria even sorted a certificate to state that you have officially stayed at the only Airbnb double decker bus in New Zealand!!! Amazing!!! book the bus... it won't dissapoint!!! You will want to stay longer like I did...
Bell wasn't working ha ha!!!
A funky, vintage double decker bus located in Lake Hayes makes for a unique accommodation experience. Victoria is a friendly and communicative host with lots of ideas for us as tourists.
The double decker bus is located on the front lawn of the owner’s residential property. It has low ceilings, a narrow gallery style kitchen with a mix of 80’s style decor, carpets and bedding. The toilet/shower stall is very small.
It's a great idea and very quirky. Close to shops and restaurants. Host was very upbeat about the bus.
Obviously bus has been used to travel the world this is brought out in its design. If this bus is to be used as a top rated accommodation being the most expensive we have paid in a one month trip around New Zealand then we think the interior needs quite a lot of renewing and cleaning. Also bus was parked in front of owners home on a residential street bit strange.
The location was brilliant, nice and quiet, the host was awesome with great communication.
The novalty of staying in a double decker bus. Everything was provided for a relaxing stay, and it was close to the shops.
Loved the quiet area it was located and obviously the uniqueness of the accom itself! Very clean and well maintained, really cool spot
Not that I didn't like it but the shower was a little awkward, not that it can be helped hahah.
This was an amazing experience and the bus has literally everything you might need and more. Hot shower was amazing, Victoria is an incredible host and super sweet. We had a great time and then some! It is an old bus so we kept our expectations at bay but were surprised by how good, comfy and well equipped it was. My partner was shocked there was a bathroom! Great times, great value and an unique experience. Thank you Victoria and family xx
Brilliant place to stay. Very quirky, very clean, made to feel very welcome. Beats the usual room hands down for novelty. Also helps that this double decker originated from my home area in the UK. Thoroughly recommend.
Nowt
Such an awesome experience with my nephew, think I was more excited than him. Super comfy beds and got to watch the sunset from the top deck. Has everything you need :) would highly recommend
Victoria was absolutely amazing! From the moment we arrived, she engaged with us on a personal level, making us feel truly welcomed. It was our anniversary, and she went above and beyond to make it extra special for me and my wife. Her thoughtful gestures and attention to detail made our experience unforgettable. Just awesome! Highly recommend her hospitality. Thank you, Victoria!
Victoria, the host, was super lovely and great to chat with! She had lots of stories and was very welcoming :) I would definitely recommend it as a really good retro place to stay
Everything was great! It may be even better if we had a guest book to write in to see all the previous guests as a nice little way to say thank you and how much we enjoyed it
Unique experience, quirky and right up our alley! Victoria is also super helpful and knowledgeable. Highly recommended.
Nothing - just need the right expectations and embrace the double decker life :-)
Why would you stay in a hotel when you can stay in a double decker bus?! Fantastic host. Cosy bed with electric blanket. It was a chilly night, so this was very welcomed. Tea, coffee, biccies and a lovely chocolate treat in the fridge. Lovely cafe for brekkie just a short walk.
Very novel and fun. Comfy, quiet and an incredible experience!
Very comfortable top deck bed and lounge area. All amenities in the bus, great hosts and the location was awesome.
Bathroom a little awkward to use.
Such a cool experience staying on the bus. Got some great photos.
If you’re over 6’ you’re gunna need to duck 😅
Wonderful stay at this new, unique accommodation in Queenstown. Friendly and helpful host who goes the extra mile (saw I had a teenager, so made space to set up an extra bed with some privacy; small light up Xmas tree; created a certificate of stay; offered assistance with a surprise bee visitor). Great cafe nearby. Good value and super comfortable. Be aware, shower and toilet are on a bus, so it's naturally going to be tight.
This vintage double decker bus was a fun and different place to stay close to Queenstown. The decker itself is spacious, comfortable and kitted out with everything you might need. The upstairs area offers a cosy lounge and a big bed that was comfy and warm, and the downstairs a well equipped kitchen and bathroom. The hosts are welcoming and friendly. It’s a great spot to stay and excellent value for money. This is a stay you’ll always remember.
Everything was perfect. The bus was much quieter and peaceful than any hotel I ever stayed in. It was a wonderful experience. I wish we could have stayed longer.
- Very unique stay - Wonderful host! - Very cosy bed - Top floor - Shower was surprisingly good!
- The bus is in a parking space and although there’s privacy, staying here feels a bit exposed. - The ground floor could have been maintained a little better - there were a few cobwebs and there are some spots that could do with a paint job.
I’m honestly speechless. Vicky has created something truly extraordinary, and I feel so lucky to have been part of it in it's early stage. Staying in this old English bus has been the most unique and memorable accommodation experience I’ve had in New Zealand—hands down. The bed? Ridiculously comfortable. The kitchen and bathroom? Super functional and easy to use. And the vibe? Simply unforgettable. And no, it’s NOT cold at night (trust me, I tested it). If you’re looking for something out of the ordinary—something with charm, character, and a story—stop searching. You’ve found it. Honestly, I’d rent this bus long-term if I could. 10/10, highly recommend. You won’t regret it!
Unique and definitely a special experience. The hosts were super friendly and we felt very welcome. Of course a double Decker might not be an ideal place for a 190m tall person. But they made it possible even for me to shower without lowering down. Quiet neighbours
Shower a little bit small to dress up (but its a bus).
Quirky, comfortable, great host
Quirky accomodations, beautiful hot shower. Victoria was very welcoming, kind & thoughtful. Special gifts for us, we’ll be no doing more zigging more than zagging 🤣😂 Victoria’s inside joke.
Bed was a bit firm for our liking, so Victoria nipped out and bought a mattress topper to make us more comfortable. She couldn’t do enough for us.
The stay was great, the host was fantastic and very accomadating, the history of the bus was amazing. A unique experience that will be remembered. It brought back memories of our camping days.
The Quirkiness and Victoria was a lovely host and made sure we had everything we wanted.
It was a bit nippy as there was a good frost overnight.
Very friendly and accommodating host. Very quirky and exceptional accommodation.
The bus is an iconic British double decker converted into a quirky home stay on wheels-apparently it is still mobile. Cosy and with all the essentials plus some included. Victoria, the host, was charming and so welcoming. If you are like me and love this kind of out of the usual accommodation this place definitely fits the bill.
