Machcha Lodge Sigiriya

Ever since I came back from my trip, the one highlight I’ve been telling all my friends about is this magical guest house. I have an awesome trip in Sri Lanka, but the best part of it was Machcha, with the very spacious & calm room and comfortable bed, the kind and thoughtful welcoming of Kamal with a freshly made watermelon juice, the delicious breakfast and fruits, and most importantly, the heavenly garden Kamal made himself. I really felt in a little paradise, between the harmony and beauty of the trees, and mostly the stunning bird I got to see visiting this precious space, from Peacocks to Tucans. Genuinely, I did beautiful safaris, hikes, dives, snorkelings, temples… but this special place alone makes me want to come back to Sri Lanka

Roy’s Villa next door is available for group activities and a cafe there that serves great food

La proprietà è immersa nella natura, il proprietario Kamal è stato veramente gentile e premuroso, le colazioni sono pazzesche e si ha la possibilità di rifugiarsi davvero in mezzo alla foresta tropicale del paese, lontano dal caos delle città. durante il giorno e la notte è possibile vedere molti animali e vegetazione locale, inoltre le attività di fianco offrono un servizio davvero accomodante sia per mangiare che per passare del tempo in compagnia con la gente locale. Tutto perfetto!

Kamal en zijn lodge zijn werkelijk waar schitterend. Wat zijn wij verliefd geworden op het land mede door Kamal. Hij kan alles voor je regelen, voor een mooie prijs, en is een geweldige kok. Elke ochtend een heerlijk uitgebreid ontbijt. Lekkere ruime kamers met goede wifi, heerlijke douche en airco. De omgeving is ook echt prachtig en alles is lopend of met tuk tuk te doen. De tuin van de logde met hangmat is zo ontzettend mooi en rustgevend, komen allemaal wilde dieren op af wat zo vet is om te zien. Als je naar Sri Lanka komt, ga dan absoluut hierheen, dit is de plek waar je verliefd wordt op het land, het eten en de mensen!

Great value for a really nice room. Staff and the owner were super friendly and helpful. We went next door to Roy's to be social and jumped in with their activities. Great stay.

Het was een prachtige kamer omringt met een hele mooie groene tuin. Kamal de eigenaar is echt een schat. Hij heeft ons zelfs in de vroegte van de ochtend naar de Pidurangala Rock gebracht, toen we terug kwamen stond er een heerlijk ontbijtje voor ons klaar! 10/10 service!

Kamal is a brilliant host. He is kind, friendly and well-known. The breakfast is free, and the quality is amazing. For the activities you can go to Roy’s Villa, as we did.

Kamal was an excellent host, welcoming, friendly, and always happy to help. The accommodation is in a beautiful , off-the-beaten-track location, right next to Roy’s Place Hostel, which makes it easy to meet other travellers and join the organised tours and activities they offer. One of the highlights of our stay was the incredible wildlife surrounding the property. There was an abundance of birds and other wildlife, including monkeys and a hornbill that was a regular visitor to the bird table.

Absolutely everything, the owner Kamal was so friendly , the most beautiful gardens and accommodation. Toucan, peacocks and squirrels right outside my door. Breakfast was incredible.

Echt een hele fijne plek! We verbleven hier 2 nachten, het zijn fijne ruime kamers, met ruime en mooie badkamer en een goede airco. Het ligt tegenover Roys Villa Hostel, waar je gebruik kan maken van het zwembad, familie diner of andere activiteiten. De gastheer is echt ontzettend lief en wil je met alles helpen! Dan nog niet gesproken over het ontbijt, ontzettend lekker en vers bereid en flinke porties! Kortom, deze lodge is een grote aanrader!

Kamal was ontzettend aardig en behulpzaam. Zijn ontbijt was heerlijk. Prachtige tuin waar veel dieren en vogels op bezoek komen.

Wij kwamen voor de rust maar tegenover zit een hostel waar tot avonds laat muziek wordt gedraaid..

The room was nice and big! The bed was really comfortable. We booked all of our activities at Roy’s Villa next door, where you can also join in for dinner. Breakfast was the best we’ve had in Sri Lanka! Staff was lovely.

Een schattig huisje met fijn terras in een heel mooi aangelegde tuin. Hornbils, mangoesten, eekhoorns en pauwen in de tuin. Heerlijk ontbijt en zeer vriendelijke gastheer.

Het naastgelegen zwembad bij hostel Roy was niet echt uitnodigend.

Unser Aufenthalt in der Machcha Lodge Sigiriya war rundum fantastisch. Besonders hervorzuheben ist Kamal, der sich außergewöhnlich gut um uns gekümmert hat – er hat uns überall hingefahren (Auto & Tuk-Tuk) und tolle Tipps für Hikes, Ayurveda Massagen und Sunset-Spots gegeben. Der Garten ist ein absolutes Highlight: ein ruhiges, tropisches Paradies mit vielen Pflanzen, in dem wir regelmäßig Tukane, Pfaue, Affen und andere Vögel beobachten konnten. Unser Zimmer war sehr sauber, das Bett äußerst bequem. Das Frühstück war landestypisch und sehr lecker (Tee, Kokos-Roti, verschiedene Currys, frisches Obst und Pancakes). Auch die Veranda war perfekt zum Entspannen mit Blick in den wunderschönen Garten.

Die Unterkunft liegt etwas außerhalb, was für manche vielleicht ein kleiner Nachteil ist – für uns war das jedoch kein Problem, da Kamal jederzeit Transfers organisiert hat.

Geweldige accommodatie! Grote schone kamer, fijne badkamer en prachtige tuin. Kamal is super aardig en het ontbijt dat hij maakt is het beste dat ik heb gehad in Sri Lanka. Ik had helaas mijn hand gebroken en Kamal is zelfs mee geweest naar het ziekenhuis, heel erg lief! Activiteiten en avondeten kun je allemaal meedoen met Roys villa.

Thank you so much for such a wonderful stay! Kamal was an incredible host and made me feel so well looked after. The homestay itself is like a little oasis surrounded by nature - I even saw toucans in the garden! My room was lovely and the breakfast each morning was absolutely delicious. I’d highly recommend staying here. The location is perfect too, right next to Roy’s Hostel so you can go out and socialise and then return to calm and quiet

Ik vond de plek en locatie ge-wel-dig! Je zit midden in een groene oase (van rust). Er zijn zoveel mooie planten en bomen om je heen en daardoor zie je ook veel dieren in deze prachtige tuin: pauwen, vlinders, aapjes, we zagen zelfs een toekan! Het fijne is dat je alle faciliteiten van Roy’s Villa kan gebruiken (het zwembad, activiteiten boeken, … ). Maar het allerfijnste aan Machcha Lodge is Kamal! Wat een gastvrije, aardige man. Mijn vriend was een beetje ziek en Kamal is met hem naar een apotheek gereden, hij hielp ons met alle vragen en maakte elke dag een heerlijk ontbijt!

Mijn enige minpuntje is dat de kamer vrij donker is.

Kamal welcomed us with a big smile even though we arrived late in the evening. The lodge is beautifully decorated and well equipped (mosquito net, A/C, internet, private bathroom, hot water). His breakfast included delicious varieties of Sri Lankan food. We really enjoyed his garden during our mornings. The location is close to Roy's villa if you are looking for activities or meals.

We stayed here for a wonderful two nights. Kamal immediately welcomed us on arrival, offered us fresh coconut from his tree, and a lovely welcome drink. Kamal went above and beyond to make sure our stay was enjoyable. We did not think we would be able to book onto a safari but kamal arranged everything for us including the pick up. The breakfast was lovely, we saw interesting birds (Sri lankan horn bill) feeding from the bird feed and monkeys on the roof! Kamal was very helpful with knowledge of the area and it was great talking to him. Roys is just next door and they let us use their bikes for a bike ride. Room was very comfortable, big bed, and air conditioning, all perfect. Can highly recommend this lodge for a stay. Also, reading in the hammock was very relaxing!

It was a very nice apartment with a small terrace to chill. The breakfast was exceptional, we never had such a good Sri Lanka breakfast. Also the garden in front of the apartment is really nice, we even saw two Tucanes.

We cannot recommend this place enough. We spent 3 nights in Machcha Lodge and everything was perfect from the first minute. Kamal is the sweetest, kindest person and made sure to always check if we needed anything. He makes the most delicious welcome drink and a spectacular breakfast that we will be dreaming about for months.. The lodge is extremely clean and well equipped - has many sockets, a hair dryer, a large mirror, good AC and a great shower. The bed was out of this world and we slept like babies. The garden is absolutely idyllic - in the first 15 minutes of arriving we saw monkeys, peacocks, iguana, and a toucan. On top of everything, the place is 1 minute away from Roy's villa hostel which is ideal as you can join them with all the great activities that they plan. This was only the start of our trip in Sri Lanka but I cannot see how any place could compete with this one.:)

We really liked the clean spacious room with 3 beds. The breakfast was healthy and delicious, and freshly made every morning. Staff was friendly and we liked that they weren't pushy with offers for tours or transport like a lot of other hosts in Sri Lanka seem to be. If you like a hostel vibe you can join activities at the famous Roy's Villa next door, with is definitely a plus for the location.

Everything was good and really good value for the money we paid. Just be aware that the location is not super close to the village center.

This place was so chill and quiet with a beautiful outdoor space. The free breakfast in the morning was delicious and a really nice way to start the day. The staff were so lovely and always helping out.

It is a little far from the centre of Sigirya but there is another hostel close by where you can join activities and events each day.

Really nice host, and good brekkie!

Kamal, the host, is so welcoming and nice. He was incredibly responsive and quick to answer any questions I had or help when I had a question. The breakfast was amazing and he set out food for the animals while I ate so I watched a hornbill, 2 peacocks, and a monkey as I enjoyed my breakfast! The room is clean and the property has a beautiful, peaceful garden to enjoy. It was a wonderful experience and one I would recommend to anyone.

Everything was just perfect, I think this might have been the best place I ever stayed at during my travels!!! Kamal was just the kindest host ever, always happy to help. The place was just beautiful and super clean. We hade a huge room, and the garden was beautiful. Kamal even made us breakfast every morning, that was just absolutely delicious! I would really recommend everyone to stay at this place!

Everything! I cannot fault this place! We were three backpackers (in their late twenties from the UK) who thought about staying at the popular Roy’s hostel. Having concluded Roy’s was very expensive for Sri Lanka, we were in search of somewhere near by and was so lucky to find Machacha Lodge a 30 second walk away - which meant it was perfect because we could stay at ours but walk to Roy’s for socializing / group tours. That being said, whether you’re looking for a hostel or a homestay, I’d stay at Machcha now every time! We split a three person room which made the cost just £7 a night for what felt like luxury! The accomodation itself is clean and nicely designed and comfortable, and the grounds are full of beautiful flora and animals. We had breakfast with peacocks, a Tucan and monkeys during our stay! On the note of breakfast, it was so delicious! Fresh juices, fresh fruit and a Sri Lankan style course - fantastic value for money considering it’s included in the price! Kamal, the host, and his team are so welcoming and warm and Kamal went out of his way to help us to and from the bus station. Honestly, I wouldn’t be able to fault this place and completely recommend anyone - families or backpackers or holiday makers - to stay here! Good luck with everything Kamal and team! :)

Machcha Lodge is an amazing, secluded space down a narrow road in Sigiriya. It has a room with an external covered area to sit and relax, beautiful, manicured gardens with an abundance of wildlife, and hammock for chilling out. It is conveniently located next to Roy’s Villa should you get desperate for a beer or coffee too. It was the perfect place to relax after climbing the steps of Lions Rock. Kamal also made an awesome breakfast.

We loved everything about Machcha lodge - the host is really hospitable, the rooms are big with a nice little terrace, breakfast yummy, and it's next door to Roy's if you feel like socializing. Sigiriya is quite close too.

Great place, located in a beautiful garden where you can watch monkeys and birds. The owner is very nice and helpful. Breakfast sensational, we received delicious juice and fruit . Room clean, spacious, I would definitely recommend staying here for more than one night!

I had a fantastic stay! The place was super clean and spacious, with a great hot shower. They even let my friend from next door join me for a traditional Sri Lankan breakfast, free of charge, which was a lovely touch. I really enjoyed relaxing in the hammock, and the staff were incredibly polite and welcoming. The garden was beautifully maintained, creating a peaceful atmosphere that made the whole experience even more enjoyable. Plus, they provided free transport to the bus stop, which was incredibly convenient. Highly recommended!

Loved staying at machcha lodge! The host is so nice and makes lovely breakfast with eggs, fresh fruits, smoothies, coffee/tea and toast. It’s also a minute walk from Roys Villa where you can enjoy the pool, family diners and all activities. My pickup taxi was at 6:00, so the host made a lovely breakfast at 5:30 and the people from Roy’s gave me a snack for on the way. Such nice people and a great start of my holiday!!

Machcha Lodge was one of our favorite stays in Sri Lanka. Kamal was the kindest, most generous host and was eager to help with anything we needed. Our family of 4 took both of the rooms. The rooms were clean, and the outside garden was lovely to sit in in the morning. Kamal made us a beautiful breakfast that we ate outside in the garden every morning. It was fun eating breakfast while watching the fantastic birds and peacocks in the garden! The wifi was a bit spotty, but that seems to be a common problem in Sri Lanka and not specifically with this property. We rented scooters through Kamal, and that was awesome because it allowed us to explore the village and towns around independently. One of the main pluses of Machcha Lodge is that it is next door to Roy's Villa - a fun backpackers place that organizes lots of fun group activities, cooking classes, safaris, hikes - and we were able to join on their activities, use the pool and have some of our meals there.

The only downside of the Machcha Lodge is that it is a little secluded (besides being next door to Roy's, which is a destination by itself). But we solved it easily by renting scooters - with those, everything was 10 minutes away!

I had a very good time staying at Machcha. Kamal is a great host. :) The bungalow has two rooms with terrace in a beautiful garden. You can hear and see the birds and lay down in a hammock under the trees. The owner makes breakfast with love (fresh fruits, tea, avocado with toast/Roti, smoothie, egg). The location is perfect for exploring Sigiriya Lion Rock or have a day trip to Polonnaruwa. The nature is very nice. ;) Your host can help you with information about tours and what to explore around. It's also easy to connect with other travellers in the hostels around. The rooms are big, clean and very nice. With a big bed and A/C. Dear Kamal, I wish you all the best for your future and always nice guests. 🌻

One of the best stays I had while travelling! The host is a true local and really helped us during our stay, giving really good tips on where to go and what to do and providing a delicious breakfast! It felt safe and we were really good taken care of! Thank you so much Kamal for the great hospitality! Also the Lodge is amazing. It is traditionally built and the garden and surrounding is a dream come true!

Beautiful place in a beautiful location! the rooms are very spacious, and the property is so well-maintained. it is surrounded by nature. the upstairs eating place serves delicious food with a great view. the Garden is a gorgeous and relaxing spot for the afternoons. the owner organized everything - even the transfer to Arugam Bay, despite the current situation. had such good days with him. this place is highly recommendable and of excellent value!

I had such a wonderful stay here! The owner is so helpful and friendly. It is impossible not to smile when you see or talk to him. The rooms were big and had everything we needed. Mosquito net above the bed too. The whole surrounding is just beautiful, including the Garden area, which is surrounded by the jungle. We also had lunch and dinner there good prices, and many options for Us. and He Gives 5-star service! - a visit to Dambulla cave temple, a drive to the fruit market, excellent breakfasts, tasty coffee, and a good laugh. Thank you! Whenever I come to Sigiriya again, this will be the place to stay.
