Great location right at bottom of 199 steps. Good places nearby for food and drink. Coop supermarket just outside station for extras. Clean and quite spacious room, for a 17 century cottage! Good shower, with lovely toiletries. Tea, coffee and biscuits appreciated.

We got a sea view so we're 3 floors up. If you don't like narrow stairs, ask for Room 1. Fine for us but could be a problem for others less mobile. It is an old building so stairs are going to be narrow, part of the character.

The location was great. The beds were comfy.

There was a distinct unpleasant odour to our room. It was so awful we had to buy some wax melts and burner to cover the smell.

My husband is 6ft 4 & bumped his head a couple of times on the low staircases. He also found the stairs quite narrow in places. Something to bare in mind for taller people

The location if the property is amazing. The property was very clean and exactly as advised. The owner was really friendly and helpful giving you all details well ahead of our visit.

Perfectly located in the old heart of Whitby. Owners very patient and helpful in organizing where to park the car.

We very much enjoyed our stay ,good location .Our 6 yr old grandson loved the Abbey could wait to climb all the steps.

Lovely room, comfy beds, tea and coffee. Very clean, excellent location. Good communication with host, arranged a parking permit.

Only issue was the noise from the street as the windows are single glazed and the street is very busy so didn't sleep well.

Beautiful 17th century cottage, lovely views and brilliant location near to all the local sights and attractions.

Spacious room with everything you might need, comfy beds. The host kept us informed and we were able to check in an hour early.

Cleaning needs more attention to detail. There was quite a bit of dust gathered above the single bed and there was stuff under the single bed left over from previous guests. The fan in the bathroom could do with a clean too.

Lovely clean room, room 4 up in the loft, great view out , you can see people walking up Henrietta street or down the 199 steps, good for people watching.

The top floor (spiral stairs ) hard for my mum 74 however Tim gave me option to cancel and I chose to risk it :)

Too small for 3. No blind next to single bed and rubbish under bed and spiders in the bathroom. Beds were rickety and not very good quality.

The place is nice, clean and in a convenient location for everything. We had such a comfortable nights sleep. We would recommend this place to our friends and would love stay in place again.

The stairs were narrow and windy so we had to take extra care when using them- just something to keep in mind if you have mobility issues.

Probably a minor issue but thats to be expected in a guest room .room underneath just kept opening and closing the door banging it purposely and it wasn't a child , that was disturbing so we left the night before. Morning we were meant check out .dissapointed.

Had to switch the fridge off as it was making too much noise.. Also you could hear the people walking about quite a lot.

Sehr schön eingerichtetes, gemütliches Zimmer in einem Haus aus dem 17. Jahrhundert in der Altstadt Whitbys Toller Aufenthalt!

Falls man mit dem Auto und viel Gepäck kommt, ist das Zimmer nicht zu empfehlen: Parkplatz ist nur am anderen Ende des Zentrums auf dem Coop-Parkplatz vorhanden. Diesen kriegt man erst nach telefonischer Instruktion des Gastgebers statt einer klaren, schriftlichen Anweisung, was zu tun ist. Am Ende kostet dieser weit entfernte Parkplatz 10 Pfund, erfährt man aber erst am Telefon.

Not super easy to store things given the steep stairs and to get hold of the owners in the moment when I had some questions. But we were able to find some alternatives in the end. A bIt more communication throughout would be nice.

Pretty cottage; nice location.

Lots of narrow stairs to the top floor with lots of luggage (we didn’t want to leave anything in the car & had luggage for 2 weeks oversea travel). But understand that’s the nature of an old cottage in the old town. Heat of the room, but was a very hot day.

Location was excellent

Heating remained on in the bathroom for the entire duration of our stay. It was 25 degrees outside and being in the roof of the building made it rather unbearable. Contacted owner who said it could not be turned off, only turned down. Also be aware that deliveries to the adjacent pub are very noisy and early in the morning.

3 Rooms up flights of stairs. Not suitable for anyone with walking difficulties. Parking over 10 minutes away in the co-op carpark. Room 3 has an obvious damp problem which wasn't great as hubby has COPD and I am undergoing chemo for terminal cancer. Noisy due to pub being directly opposite. Carpet was covered in dirty marks. Leak in bathroom when shower was in use. Sand on bathroom floor. We didn't visit the beach.

Location was fab, nice sized room with everything you needed including the tower cooler fan!

Bathroom shower was a little intermittent with temp and pressure which is strange for an electric unit but we made do ok, extractor fan needs a clean but very happy overall and would love to return

The location was good and the cottage has potential

It wasnt very clean, carpets looked like they needed hoovering around the edges, paint peeling off wall, cobwebs around ceiling, just looking tired and tatty.

Absolutely stunning location, comfortable bed and the cosiest room. Tim was so friendly and approachable, made sure we knew everything before arriving. Booked as a gift for my best friend, her first trip to whitby and she was completely charmed. Will definitely be back!

Poppies is a wonderful stay been about 6 or 7 times now very clean excellent location we love staying there and we met the cleaner who does a marvellous job well done to the lady and management

Both my boys are tall and could not stand in the shower however this was fine as we did nit use facilities

There is no breakfast provided at the cottage it's room only. The room was quiet and comfortable with good facilities.

If you have mobility problems don't book room 4 the one with the larger bed as it's up 3 flights of stairs and 2 of the flights are narrow and spiral, but it is a 17th century cottage.

Suberb location , good sized room.

The noise in the morning was very loud and annoying . Window could do with a blind so got woke up very early, had to put a cussion in tge window .

Didn’t realise when I booked it that it’s a shared accommodation and you’re just booking a room in a house! I thought it was the whole cottage with a kitchen etc

Very good location and the owner was fabulous with directions even talked us through on the phone as quite difficult due to get to by car to drop off cases but once in was great

Location was perfect for exploring Whitby. It was right at the bottom of the 199 steps. I can imagine it gets busy/crowded in summer but in low season it was perfect. Large bathroom with a lovely hot shower and heated towel rail. Nice sized room. Tea and coffee making facilities. Nice view from room 3 sitting in bed you can see the whalebone arch and Cooks monument. Glimpses of sea between the pubs across the road. Very near the small south beaches and right amongst the old cottages. Quiet at night. Communication with the owner was excellent.

Please be aware this is a very old building so staircase is steep and narrow if you have heavy luggage or a disability. It was fine for me but just a heads up. As advertised, it is just a room and ensuite I did not spend much time there. In hindsight if i visited again I would probably choose a property with a kitchenette and parking as I visited out of season. That being said if you are just looking far somewhere quiet to sleep whilst you expolore this was perfect. Parking in the whole of Whitby is an issue it was advertised as £9 a day but it was £12.50 with no cheaper alternatives that are in walking distance if I had taken this cost into account I may have chosen differently.
