Very clean and comfortable

Location very good, easy walk on the level to the harbour etc. Breakfast was excellent, plenty of choice and good service. Bedroom was very spacious and comfortable bed, spotlessly clean. All staff very helpful and friendly.

Parking was horrendous because there was no parking space available at any time of our stay and we had to make sure we were out of the hotel by 10am just so we didn’t get a ticket. If a hotel is going to say they have parking then it should fit all guests staying there not just a few spaces.

A lovely hotel. Excellent staff who were helpful and friendly. Michael made us very welcome. Outstanding breakfast, especially the fish. Lots to do and see in the area.

The breakfast was exceptional. The location is perfect and lovely staff.

The room was extremely hot (it was in summer) a fan was supplied in room which did help.

The hotel was clean, modern and comfortable. The staff were all welcoming and friendly and the breakfasts were really good. I particularly want to mention the night man who welcomed us at 10pm when we had been delayed on our journey. He was welcoming and helpful. He worked so hard, getting everything ready for the next day. The hotel is excellent value for money and I would definitely recommend.

The hotel was located well, modern inside, very clean, comfortable room and bed with excellent facilities, friendly attentive staff. Tasty fresh cooked breakfast with good choices. Will highly recommend.

Parking was a bit of an issue, it did state on the website regarding this, some hotel parking and on street parking .it is the only thing which lets it down. But otherwise no complaints.

The Carlton Hotel was well located for exploring Ilfracombe and the surrounding area. You can walk to the beautiful harbour in under 10 mins. The hotel is clean and fresh looking, and the rooms are very comfortable. The bathroom was very clean and the shower was amazing. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. We had a wonderful stay.

The room was rather small and very hot. We found it hard to sleep. The car park is small and awkward, and doesn't cater for larger cars or trucks.

Conveniently located for Tunnels beach wedding venue.Obviously well modernised in recent years very friendly and helpful staff.

It was extremely clean and very comfortable. Good location. Dog friendly. We will only book a hotel where breakfast is included, which it was at the Carlton. It was a very good breakfast.

There wasn’t enough parking which meant on occasions we had to park quite a distance away. We didn’t realise there would be a £15 charge per night for the dog. We weren’t provided with a dog bed or feeding bowls or any treats. There was a sausage every morning, but we thought £15 per night was excessive.

Spacious clean and comfortable room. Really comfy bed / pillows. Parking on site. Great location. Very friendly, helpful and efficient staff at reception and in the breakfast room.

The only thing that could be improved was the breakfast offering. They had run out of avocado and muffins taking a few things off the menu & the omelette had very little cheese & tomato filling and no seasoning.

The breakfast and evening meal were superb and freshlY cooked. Room was lovely and clean and staff were really helpful to all our needs.. our dogs were treated the same too..definitely stay again

Really lovely hotel in a great location. Around 7 minute walk to the harbour.

Everything was just as we wished it to be.

The owner of this hotel ran hotels in London for years and then has owner-managed it for 12 years - he is absolutely superb. As a result, it’s an outstanding place to stay - they get all the little things right and that is so difficult to do.

It was in a great location close to town, the breakfast was great and freshly cooked, the rooms were nice and very clean/tidy, they have a great little gym which was really good and well equipped for my needs, the staff were very helpful and friendly.

Small car park and parking bays for big cars but we managed get a place

We had a lovely weekend at the Carlton Hotel and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The staff were all incredibly friendly, welcoming, and helpful, and the food was delicious. Our room was very clean, well equipped, and had everything we needed. It was cleaned daily, and the bed was comfortable with lovely, crisp white bedding. The shower was also fantastic! The bar and restaurant were comfortable, well staffed, and had a lovely atmosphere. Overall, we had a wonderful stay and would happily recommend the Carlton Hotel and Ilfracombe.

We stayed during a heatwave, so the room was understandably very warm. A fan was provided, which was appreciated, although it was quite noisy and unfortunately didn’t make much difference. As the windows couldn’t be opened wide enough to allow much airflow, the room remained quite warm. This was a minor issue during an otherwise enjoyable stay.

Setting, location, comfortable room. Restaurant really good. We had excellent dinner there and loved the breakfast. Shower was brilliant, used it a lot due to the heat. Thank you for putting a fan in the room! Lovely staff made us a packed breakfast as we left very early.

Was very hot due to heatwave and old building so very airless everywhere. Also no coffee in the tea selection. Would have loved a coffee there! But see you do have coffee machine in lobby, i didn’t see that till we left.

Sehr freundliches Hotel mit gutem Frühstück. Das Zimmer war überraschend groß und für unsere Zwecke sehr gemütlich. Parkplatz war auch vorhanden und inkludiert. Die Lage passt auch gut. Es ist nicht weit zum Hafen und es gibt auch Restaurants in der Nähe. Im Hotel gibt es auch eines.

Das Zimmer hatte keine Klimaanlage, was bei der Hitzewelle eher unangenehm ist. Auf den Lift ist man Stolz, weil er so alt ist. Und das merkt man auch. Langsam und ein wenig tricky. Das Hotel hatten wir auch wegen der Tunnel Beaches gebucht. Die waren aber leider gesperrt. Schade. Aber auch andere Gegenden haben schöne und interessante Strände. Das Parken ist ein bisschen eng.

Small room on top floor with small window was exceptionally hot. Could not sleep at all for the two nights. Window did not open fully.

They have a wonderful Chef food was fantastic. Room was spotless.

The host Michael was friendly and professional and couldn’t do enough for us. His staff were also very nice. Ate there on one evening and the food was lovely and good value for money. I had a large and very comfortable room with safe and fridge with a bottle of water in it. It also had parking.

Parking is an issue at busy times but this is a question for the town rather than the hotel.

Proprietor outlined the facilities in a very clear fashion. The hotel was clean and well appointed. Room was clean and tidy and kept well maintained. A very good choice of breakfast well cooked. A very good point was that owner let us park early on grounds as we had travelled a short distance to location.

The rooms were like a sauna - in the roof space with limited ability to open windows - a fan was supplied but quite noisy. It was during a very hot spell of weather.

Unfortunately I was in a top floor single room at a very hot time of year and there was no air conditioning in the room although a fan was provided. I also experienced mild noises in my room which I assume was a commercial boiler or something but it woke me couple times during my stay.

Good location for the Tunnels. Great breakfast. Staff were very polite and helpful, day and night.

It’s noisy. I was on the third/top floor and every time someone turned the water on, there was a disturbing noise above. I didn’t hear any other guests though. Because it was warm I needed the window open and it was noisy outside too, so I was thankful for my ear plugs.

Excellent breakfast choice and good quality. We ate in most nights and the food is excellent and good value for money.

Couldn't double-lock the room door from the inside which made me feel somewhat vulnerable. There obviously had once been a privacy latch but it had been broken off or otherwise removed.

Wonderful hotel. It is in a great situation, close to the sea front and Ilfracombe town centre. The staff were fantastic, really helpful at all times and gave us lots of advice for where best to visit, and what cliffpaths were shut, etc. Breakfast was included and excellent quality and portion sizes. We particularly loved the little library tucked away on the entrance floor!

I had a lovely 2-night stay at the Carlton Hotel in Ilfracombe. From the moment I arrived, everything felt welcoming and well-organised. The room was clean, comfortable, and had everything I needed for a relaxing stay. A special mention to Michael at reception, who was incredibly helpful and friendly throughout my visit. The hotel is in a great location, making it easy to explore Ilfracombe and the surrounding area. Overall, it was a very pleasant stay, and I would happily return in the future.

From the moment we walked in the experience was a joy. Michael the owner was the perfect host. He made us feel really special. He knew where we went each day and asked about it when we returned. The whole hotel was spotlessly clean. Our large room was great; comfortable bed wonderful shower in the en suite. There were comfy chairs plus a table and chairs. The restaurant was well appointed and the food delicious. All the staff, housekeeping and restaurant seemed to take a real pride in their work. All in all, this is one of the best hotels that we have stayed in and when we return to north Devon we will certainly stay at the Carlton.

I had to give a score or l couldn’t proceed to giving a comment,l never actually got to stay there as the war in the Middle East put and end to that so l really can’t comment on the actual hotel but l can comment on the treatment l received when l had to cancel,absolutely disgusting,the owner of the Carlton tried to say it was non-refundable which was absolute nonsense as l booked months in advance from Australia and lm just touching on 80 years of age so believe me l wouldn’t book a hotel that was non-refundable,numerous e-mails asking for proof from the hotel and booking.com about this was fruitless as both blamed the other and l wound up $1,200 dollars down the drain,like l said l can’t complain about the facilities but l can complain about the management and it’s absolutely atrocious.

Couldn’t tell you but l wouldn’t stay there if l was homeless.
