Customer service was not up to standard. This morning i could not find the helper at the reception. The room had no iron and ironing board. After deciding to wear un ironed clothes, i went looking for the helper at the reception to drop the keys. No one was there. I waited and waited. . I had to leave the property by just hooting at the gate because no one was at service of the only guest that was there. Quite disappointing really.

The property owner was very rude and not accommodative. He would not even allow us in and check our booking confirmation. He double booked his property and when we got there he lied to say he did not receive our booking even after we offered to show him our booking confirmation. Till today we have not Received a refund of R3600 for this weekend.

Reviewed Dec 3, 2025Hillside was absolutely lovely, the attention to detail was on another level, Breakfast layout was so good i was truly impressed, My husband and i had a restfull night and the fruit and cereals and breakfast goodies were first class, the fridge was stocked with everything we needed for our overnight stay. Thank You Hillside we will be sure to consider you when booking an overnight.

The TV, boring channels, I wish I had brought my laptop so that I can watch some Netflix, or show max But it's not a train smash, the place is really great, good facilities, and if you can consider adding those subscriptions, I think this place will stand out from the rest.

Reviewed Jan 6, 2025It was an absolute pleasure to stay at Hillside! The place is super clean and comfortable. Very close to shops and restaurants. Actually I walked a couple of times to the shops. It’s quiet and peaceful. The staff were polite and helpful. Hotels are outdated! Some of us need accommodation that can offer peace, security, privacy and sense of homeliness. This place provides that!
The TV signal was a nightmare at room 4. There’s a full DStv package but unfortunately can’t watch all the channels because of the signal…I think the aircon is too close to the TV and its electro-magnetic outputs interfere with the TV. I could see that when I had the aircon, the TV would start to lose picture and signal and it’d work well when it’s off..unfortunately you can’t have aircon off for long in Umhlanga. Probably the establishment could relocate the aircon to the corner above the wardrobe.

There were dogs on the property and as I am afraid of them, it was an intense mental challenge having to walk past them every time I wanted to leave the property The linens and bath towels felt and looked old The temperature of the shower was very difficult to control and the water was either steaming hot or ice cold
