Sinhagiri Villa

Although we were staying in Sinhagiri Villa everything is based in the larger Green Hut Resort next door which the family also own. This felt a little odd at first but did mean our room was wonderfully quiet with a nice balcony area. Our family room was snug but the space had been used well and it was clean. The bathroom was basic but clean with a good shower. There was no fridge in the room but there was a small shared one between the rooms on the upper floor. The restaurant exceeded our expectations and they were brilliant at adapting the menu to suit our son’s allergy with both local and western options. We really enjoyed the curries and loved talking to the owner about what she had cooked that day. They also had great coffee! The pool was nice but they were in the middle of a building project when we were there which made the pool area feel a little unloved. When the new rooms are finished it will probably be lovely again. We booked an elephant safari with them which was well organised with a great driver. The other highlight is the huge rock a short walk beyond their property which was the perfect place to watch the sunset on Sigiriya Rock. The location is little outside the centre but within a few minutes walk of a small temple and the locals entrance to Sigiriya where we did some great value souvenir shopping. The overall feeling here is very relaxed. The staff team are very lovely and their years of experience really shows in their customer service.

Although there was no noise from the building works it did make the garden area less appealing. However this won’t last for long.

The location was perfect for our stay. The food was delicious and the staff were so lovely and friendly. The grounds were very peaceful and the pool area was lovely too.

Pension familiale très accueillante avec un excellent petit déjeuner et le sourire de tout le personnel. Piscine agréable avec vue sur le rocher du Lion, et grand jardin. La propriétaire cultive ses propres mangues qui sont délicieuses.

L'une des chambres familiales était un peu petite et la salle de bain n'était pas très propre. Quelques petites bestioles se baladent de temps en temps mais il faut dire qu'on est au milieu d'une végétation luxuriante. Temps d'attente très long entre la commande et le repas (très bon par ailleurs). Note (temporaire) : lors de notre séjour l'établissement était en cours d'agrandissement donc bruit de travaux de maçonnerie à côté de la piscine (dans la journée).

Accueil exceptionnel au sein d’un hotel idéalement situé, tout proche du rocher du lion que vous pouvez rejoindre à pied en quelques minutes. Le personnel est vraiment adorable et à l’écoute.

Les chambres familiales sont un peu petites et ont besoins d’un coup de jeune, mais l’hôtel est vraiment très propre et agréable.

Location was good, there's a path that you can take past the elephant wire and onto a rock that looks towards lions rock which was nice and meant you don't necessarily need to go to the paid viewing spot that's really popular. The greeting drinks on arrival were a nice addition.

The shower was completely unusable and was ice cold, and then you turn the tap and then boiling then if you add cold in and it's a good temperature for a few seconds then cold again. The bathroom could have been better cleaned but wasn't too bad. The mosquito net was ripped and let in mosquitoes and the pillows were stained and completely flat.

Staff couldn't be more helpful. The food was really good. The grounds have lots of fruit trees and birds and its a pleasant place to be. Very close to Sigiriya and a tuk tuk ride to restaurants.

malheureusement nous n’avons pas pu avoir la chambre réservée pour la première nuit, nous avons donc été déplacés dans le dortoir dont le confort est nettement plus spartiate

Tout était parfait ! La chambre est spacieuse, calme et très confortable. La piscine est un vrai + avec la vue magnifique sur le rocher du Lion. On y mange très bien et le personnel est très très gentil et arrangeant. J'ai pu booker très facilement un tuk tuk pour m'emmener faire l'ascension du rocher Pidurangala et également pour m'emmener à la gare de Habaranna à 4h du matin. Je recommande ! :) De plus si vous avez de la chance vous pouvez même voir passer des éléphants 🐘🤩

A wonderful guest house in a private setting, surrounded by palm trees and the jungle. The family who run the guest house were very welcoming and informative and the food was the best (voted by the entire family) we had during our three week holiday in Sri Lanka.

Room had a big cockroach, not a big problem, but the bathroom was terrible, the handle rusted out completely, shower super cold, wires dangling on mirror, bathroom window to a semi shared balcony with stuff for cleaning. Massages and safari was pricy.

The sheet and the cusions are so old and has stains. Does not make me feel comfortable to sleep.

The location is great, the staff are friendly and happy to help out, especially the cook in the kitchen. The food was lovely and reasonably priced.

It's a shame they didn't pick up on some of the smaller bits like refreshing the room for us and making sure the table cloths were wiped down between people. The walls in the rooms are quite thin and we could hear the person in the next room on the phone.

Really sweet people , the coolest beer in Sri Lanka and really close to tourist destinations

Amazing place which felt like a peaceful retreat, with pool with view of Sigiriya, birds and butterflies galore and a stunning view of Sigiriya and Pidurangala from a small rock at the back, about 5 min walk from the pool to the top. 10 min walk to Sigiriya Rock park entrance. Atmoshpere was low key and helpful. Tuk tuks/drivers helpfully arranged, including Dambulla for afternoon and driver to Kandy. Location meant I could go up Lion's Rock when I felt like it..no need to book anything. Quiet temple opposite hotel, with huge white buddha you can see from top of Sigiriya. This provided a wonderfully restorative and enticing start to my Sri Lanka trip after long flight. Really glad I came straight here (initially considered Ngombo). Food was good.

Shower was more of a trickle

Everything was okay, the standard room was ok but the facilities are not top notch, the water heater is really loud and the electricity was gone three times in our two nights stay (only around an hour each). Don't expect any luxury. The breakfast is basic but sufficient and the restaurant looks not very nice with all the messages from guests all over the walls. Reminded us of a public bathroom but that might just be our impression / subjective.

Beautiful distant view of Sigariya from our room with balcony. Easy walk to the entrance. Hosts were lovely and gave good advice on best time to climb (afternoon around 3.30pm), which was ideal because most of the time we were shaded by the rock. Pool was also great

The breakfast isn’t great. Quite bland. One fried egg each and loads of bread. A smoothie would’ve been nice. Asked for curry in the evening and they said they couldn’t make one. Odd.

The Sinhagiri vila is placed near the lion mountain and the pidurangala rock in a quiet area with beautiful garden surround the area. The hotel owners are very sweet and serviceminded, and served delicious lunch/dinner in the restaurant at a very affordable price.

The hotel is a bit tired, the pool area had a very limited number of sunbeds and chairs.

They gave us the wrong room, we arrived late and instead of the beautiful room advertised we got an old smelly room in the old house. Pictures in booking show the new building but they put people in the old one which needs maintenance. Bathroom Smelly, toilet broken and sink also. When I told owner this morning he was so rude to us Been in Sri Lanka for 2 months and that was the worst stay so far

The room was okay, it had a nice balcony. They also have a very pleasant pool. The breakfast experience was very enjoyable. The location is great; you can walk to both rocks and the village center.

If you walk home at night in the dark, it can be a bit scary (because of nature, not people). However, there are plenty of tuk-tuks available.

Very nice location. From the pool and the garden you have a amazing view of the lion rock. The pool is really nice and very clean. The owners are super helpfull and the food is outstanding. The rooms are nice and have their own balcony. We wod definetly recommend this place and come back again!

The guesthouse is well located for access to the archaeological site at Sigyria - aproximiately 20 minutes walk to the main tourist entrance.

The food menu was expensive by Sri Lankan standards - but there is no real alternative as there are no restaurants close by.

The family that run the villa and their staff are amazing! I felt so welcome, like part of the family. The food at the restaurant is delicious and they grow the produce themselves on the property!! I did the cooking class and safari while staying, both were fantastic. They helped organise a tuk tuk for sunrise hikes and transfer to the airport. A true hidden gem!

The location, the food and the people were excellent, wonderful and helpful. The place is full of exotic fruit trees, there is a swimming pool and a rock nearby which you can climb and from where you can see lions rock. All the rooms have a balcony and some also a veranda.

The room was not so nice though, quite dark and damp and not so cosy but maybe the end of the rainy season added to it.

Amazing to be able to walk to lion rock. Staff were incredibly helpful (including trying to help me track down the bag lost on my flight). They organise a great safari and whatever else you need. Nice food.

Pool wasn't available but that's just because it had been raining 3 days straight. Wasn't really hot enough when I was there anyway, but if you're fussed about a pool ask ahead.

Staff was incredible! Always so kind, so attentive! We booked our safari with them and got the absolute best driver in the whole park, we’re super happy with it! Room was clean, pretty and comfortable! The pool had views to the rock, and the hotel was walking distance to it! If you’re lucky enough, you can actually see elephants roaming around at dusk or dawn, the owner’s son saw one while we were having dinner and got us all on a jeep to go see it quickly! I would really recommend!

You need a tuktuk to go home at night as there is elefants around. Room was very basic for the price. We had better money-value options than this one.

Lovely guest house, very quiet and relaxing experience! Great location close to Lion’s and Pidurangala rocks. Lovely owners who helped us organise all our activities and cooked delicious food. The pool is very nice, nice view on the garden and Lion’s Rock.

The bathroom had a funny smell and the double bed came with 2 single bed sheets.

The accommodation was very close to Lion Rock and the other rock you can climb. This makes it convenient if you want to do sunrise and / or sunset. The host are super friendly and helpful. You cannot walk into town and would require a driver or transport.

Fantastic stay. The owners are such nice people and really want to help you have the best trip possible. Great knowledge of the area and trips to go on.

We really enjoyed the new pool and sunsets at the rock on the property overlooking Lion Rock and Pidurangala. The staff and owners were very friendly and Prasath was very attentive and sweet. He worked hard and he specifically brought back a beer I requested and surprised us with little treats for the kids!

The villa is Just 1 km from the entrance of Lion Rock and has a beautiful garden with a rock from which you can see sunrise/sunset. The hosts are really friendly and helpful. They can help you to arrange several activities and give useful tips. Having dinner in the villa Is more expensive than outside, but the food is amazing!

I think we had our best time in Sri Lanka in Sinhagiri villa. This hotel is as eco-friendly as it gets. It uses completely renewable energy (also for the air conditioning) and the food in the restaurant is 100% organic. The vegetables and fruit you have for breakfast and dinner come from their garden and are grown without using any chemicals or pesticides. It is also the best food we have had in Sri Lanka. The vegetable curry dish comes with a whole array of dishes that are mouth-wateringly delicious and bursting with flavour. Breakfast is a treat as well with fresh fruit from the garden and local breakfast dishes such as Sri Lankan pancakes or coconut roti with sambal as well as fried eggs and toast. In addition, you are in the middle of nature so it is likely that you will see a peacock in the garden each day! Sriyani and her husband are also two of the most warm-hearted people you will meet. We had wonderful talks with them and they went out of their way for us. We actually consider them friends now and hope to see them soon again! They are passionate about the environment and run their hotel and restaurant in a way that is good for the local surroundings, the people and the planet.

Helpful staffs, nice rooms, excellent location

It’s a smallish, family run boutique hotel. You’ll enjoy home cooked meals and a very warm welcome while you’re there. While the rooms may be basic they are very clean and well maintained. It is convenient to local historic sites as well as other points of interest. We climbed Pidurangala Rock one morning and the hosts arranged a predawn tuk tuk driver for us. If you’re looking for an enjoyable stay as you explore Sri Lanka you won’t go wrong here.

** Not the property's fault but good for travelers to know** One note, my friend and I were self driving and had just clicked on the hotel from Google Maps to get navigation. The pin must be placed in the wrong location because we were routed about 20 minutes out of the way. When we entered the physical address found on booking.com into the navigation it took us directly to Sinhagiri Villa.

Best accomodation we stayed in Sri Lanka! Everything was just perfect. The location it's great, surrounded by nature and wild animales. The accomodation was super clean, comfortable and beautiful. The owners were so kind and helpful. They looked after us, helped us with our trips and always had time for a chat. We really enjoyed our meals there ❤️. Really unique and generous people. They helped us organising our Safary trip and that was outstanding, Tharu was an excellent guide :) thank you!!! Definitely we can recommend this place to everybody and if one day we go back to Sri Lanka we'd love to stay here again.

Just a little bit too far from main restaurant bar area of sigiriya, we were advised not to walk lanes at night due to elephants.

The location is close to all the main attractions (Lions Rock and Pidurangala Rock) it is a short tuktuk ride away which was convenient. The booking came with breakfast included which was fruit, bread, egg and hoppers. Simply but tasty. We were able to do our laundry, however keep in mind it gets sent away. They did it within a day. Dropped it off at 9am and returned at 6pm. It's through a third party so payment in cash is expected when you receive your laundry. The hotel arranged a tuktuk into town in the evening, I think someone who works at the hotel. It was a 1000 rupees to get in and 1000 to get back. The AC worked really well.

If you stay here, come prepared with mosquito repellent, there's a lot of them which can't be helped. The room came with a mosquito net. I had originally booked this based on a past review saying they take card, but they only do cash so worth keeping in mind. There is an atm near Lions Rock, but it's worth coming prepared before you arrive.

I didn't like anything

They gave us very bad room . Not the room they show on Google photos. Too many mosquito, lizards and frogs in room. Badly maintained. Breakfast was worst. Room was very cheap and uncomfortable not worth what you pay for. Staffs were rude at times .
