Serenity Heights

The hosts were the nicest people and we enjoyed a very comfortable bed and a delicious breakfast.

Owner is very friendly.

This is not a 5 star hotel, so expectations must be set for that. The 10 rating for value for money and the hosts friendly attitude.

Friendly host... nice foods

Nothing

One night stay at the lovely homestay. The husband took us on a walk round the local Pedro tree plantation. After our walk, the host very made a delicious traditional breakfast, also a lovely curd, toast, we could not eat, as it was all too much.

Hosts friendly and helpful, made me tea, took me to the train station for a good price. Bed was comfortable, provided an extra blanket (it was coldddd overnight).

The wifi didn’t work (they did try to sort this out but to no avail). The bathroom is impractical. Shower head can’t be moved so the water sprays literally everywhere (toilet, walls, mirror, all over the floor) and there’s no way to dry it up.

We thoroughly enjoyed the place and location. Wifi was good, shower was hot, location is outside city centre but the 1 hour walk around Lake Gregory is pleasant and it's easy to catch a bus or ride. Several great restaurants within walking distance. Breakfast was delicious and varied.

We wanted to share some odd things that happened. A big part of South Asian culture is acts of service as a form of care. Sometimes this can feel like pressure when it isn't. I've traveled for a long time all over South Asia and recognize this. Here, however, the attentiveness felt intrusive. We were asked multiple times a day what we were doing and why we didn’t do their local suggestions. When we turned down a recommendation, they would try to change our minds or ask us again later. A few specific interactions felt particularly upsetting. First, during our arrival chitchat, the hosts claimed our longer route to the highlands was because our previous hosts lied to us to discourage us from leaving. We believe our hosts down south were genuinely unsure because it was a long trip. Whether true or not, it felt like a cynical assumption. Next, we booked 4 nights here with the goal to slow down and rest. We were exhausted and were woken up from midday naps on two separate occasions by repeated knocks on our door where they would just ask what we were doing. Even when we said nothing to imply we were trying to sleep, they kept knocking until we said something which was uncomfortable and unusual. Last, we noticed and informed the hosts of a tear in our bedsheet. It was not a big deal but we were letting them know so they could change it. The host said something to his wife that felt directed, and she seemed upset after, which was unpleasant for us to see. Based on the reviews, we may be one of few guests to have frustrating and upsetting experiences with the hosts. This is my first negative review and I don't like posting it but I believe the hosts and future guests would benefit from the feedback.

The lady running the place is very friendly, empathetic and easy to talk to :) she welcomed us with a smile and a cup of tea. We had a spacious room with a lovely view of the tea fields.

The room had only one electrical socket

Most lovely and kind hosts we met in sri lanka and they were very helpful (brought us extra blankets, lend adapters, made us breakfast to go as we left early for a hike, organised a driver etc). In addition, the rooms are very spacious and there is a common room and the possibility to make tea. Also: hot water was available!

Friendly host. Nice stay. Good foods. Highly recommended.. amazing tea plantation tour.

Nothing

We had a lovely stay. The hosts greeted us with hot tea with was very welcome in the cold of Newura Eliya. We had a delicious dinner in the homestay on our first night.it is also possible to book tours through the homestay as the husband is a guide. Extra blankets were offered also as it can get cold in Newura Eliya. The breakfast each morning was an absolute feast. I would recommend.

Habitacions àmplies i esmorzar molt complet.

Our hosts were amazing . They spoke great English , were very knowledgeable and very accomodating around what we wanted to see and do . Fantastic free tea plantation opposite our accomodation .

Lovely family, perfectly clean and delicious breakfast. The hosts helped us plan travel around the area, took us on a tour of the local tea plantations and prepared tea whenever we wanted it

It's in a tea plantation area, 5 mins walking distance to the hills and you get to see the most breathtaking views. Also the owner is very welcoming and friendly. Made some local breakfast for me without any charges. Would highly recommend anyone to stay!

Because they only started the business 5 months ago, and quite budget tight, so there isn't an air con in the room. But the owner provided a warm and big blanket which was very nice

Very nice place to stay, a little outside the busy centre. Dinner and breakfast were amazing! The hosts are super nice! Would recommend this place. Very good bed, they provided us with an extra blankets since it was very cold while we were there.

Really nice family, free tea plantation tour, great breakfast and had evening meal which was delicious and good value, very helpful with anything we asked.

It was a bit out of the way

good location- we were able to park our car there and walk to the lake and a local restaurant

Steep stairs to walk up to accommodation

Nice plantation tour. Good foods. Warm welcome.

Ameizing tea plantation tour. Nice breakfast with plenty of items .. really friendly host.

Very friendly hosts and lovely breakfast provided. The free tea plantation tour which was amazing and really informative. We really appreciated this.

However the room is very basic, the shower is a trickle and struggled to get hot water. The temperature is quite abit colder than the coast so we really would have appreciated a hot shower. The towels and sheet still felt damp and the bathroom was mouldy.

The hosts were very good. Took is on a walk through a tea plantation. Meals were excellent.

Close to city center, but the proximity is calm. Friendly and helpful staff run the place with good communications.

simple but fine Very friendly host Good breakfast

Exceptional nice and supportive hosts offering great breakfast and dinner and even a tea plantation tour. Very recommended relaxed stay.

We had a fantastic stay. It exceeded our expectations! The accommodation is located just a short distance from the tea plantations and the lake. However, it is in a quiet neighborhood. The rooms are very clean, bright, and spacious. There is plenty of storage space, and the beds are very comfortable. The hosts are very friendly. We had a wonderful tour of the tea plantations in the morning and visited the tea factory in the afternoon with the host. The breakfast and dinner were amazing! Also we were offered tea the whole day, whenever needed. You could start the day feeling very satisfied :) We would recommend it to everyone!

New, clean, good location, nice hosts

Bathroom door could not be closed completely, apart from that all good

Very kind and welcoming hosts. Soothing cup of tea on arrival. Convenient location next to main road. Spacious room with hot water in the shower. We also had dinner, and it was plentiful and tasty. Great value for the price.

Friendly host. Nice foods. Amazing tea plantation tour.

The host was helpful and made the most amazing dinner for me. Nice to have hot shower as it was cold

The property is outside Nwara Eliya but you can take a tuk tuk. Unfortunately due to the weather I couldn't visit the tea plantation the host offered to take me around....but it wasn't the host fault. Maybe to buy a hairdryer

Friendly host. Good foods. The owner is offer nice tea plantation tour free of charge. He is very knowledgeable tour guide. He explained everything. Food was really nice and lot of things. There is a hot water kettle we can make a tea any time free of charge. Comfortable bed. Huge room.

Fantastic family with great breakfast and they also serve a wonderful dinner at a very reasonable price. No need to eat out!! Very clean and cosey.

The location was a bit far out of town so if you don't have your own vehicle or are traveling solo it will increase your costs to get back and forth.

Simple place run by a lovely family. Breakfast was plentiful and fresh.

The room is big Great breakfast Wifi works well

Very honest and hospitable owners. They can organize transportation, excursions or give suggestions. This is a private house, not in city center, but it gives you local atmosphere and very easy to go by local bus to or from center. It takes 10 min and costs close to nothing. Very delicious breakfast and dinner, if you ask for that.

Wifi is not strong.

Hosts are amazing and friendly. They even took us for a hike in the tea plantations. Breakfast was plenty and delicious. Location is good just outside the centre and surrounded by fields

The people were verry verry nice. And helpfull. The food was real SL, so good. The building was brand new so 8 months in use, so here and there it needs the finishing touch. It was cold when we were there, but they provide us with a heather. Great. The beds were great and we had a nice vieuw.

The floor was cold... but not a real problem.

The host is an excellent guide, providing valuable information. The place is simple, clean, and offers a good breakfast.

Nothing

Great accommodation that has only recently opened. So don't be surprised that it is not yet displayed on Google. Follow the address on Booking. The hosts were really friendly and helpful. We got an incredible amount of tips (also for our further trip) and went on a great tour where all our individual wishes were catered for. The facilities are great and the rooms are large and clean. The breakfast was very tasty and plentiful. We even had a traditional dinner cooked for us. I can totally recommend the accommodation and would come back any time. Thank you very much for this great and personal stay with you!

I liked how safe I felt as a solo traveller. The family owned stay was super comfortable. The couple is so welcoming srilankan family makes you feel right at home

Really very friendly host. And he pickup us from nanuoya railway station. We did half day tour with the janaka it was amazing. Clean room delicious foods. Near property have nice tea plantation. Very near to Gregory lake. We can make tea any time free of charge when we need. Highly recommended.

highly recommended.. peaceful place. Friendly host. Good foods...

Clean and friendly host little bit far from the center but always very easy to take public tranceport. This proerty is only few miter from main road. Walking distance to gegory park and moons palaince safari.. around the property nice tea plantation and vegetables gardens. Peaceful location..
