Rokky Hill Cottage Ella

We throughly enjoyed our stay here. The owner was lovely and cooked us a delicious breakfast every morning. She was very helpful with helping us get tuktuks and recommending places to go. The room was spacious and very clean and the bed was the comfiest bed we have slept in in the whole of Sri Lanka! We would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a great value for money home stay with amazing views and lovely people.

Excellent. Fresh and plentiful.

Needed a couple of sitting chairs in room

Aussicht, freundliche Gastgeberin, sauberes helles Zimmer,, kleiner Kühlschrank

Nichts

Best room in ella , I live my time there , montagnes and waterfall view , I watch sunset and sunrise from the balcony, the bed is very confortable, and a very good breakfast also , fully recommended !!

Beautiful view Could see the train tracks from the balcony Host was lovely and breakfast was fab Only 10 minute walk down to Ella centre

The view was incredible, breakfast was really good and the host was so helpful and welcoming. The beds were comfy and the bedroom and bathroom were clean. Location was good and easy to get to Ella.

The views from the property are amazing and the owner is a such a lovely women. Breakfast was also lovely

Great place great staff great breakfast

The view

Basic Bathroom & towels

The location. From the verandah you could see forever and turn 15 degrees there is this in readable waterfall. The breakfast was really great also. I would come back for sure

Location

Quite and nice place, balcony view is spectacular 👌 with mountains and cliffs all around the cottage, hosted lady is so friendly and welcoming...glad I chose this place for a overnight stay

Great view. Owner wonderful.

Nice view from the stay . Host is very kind.

Wifi was hardly working.

Fantastic view with waterfall. ❤️❤️

Breakfast was huge and very tasty!

Very nice place. Good service

Nothing

Beautiful view of mountains and waterfall! Owner was exceptionally friendly and attended to our needs. You can hire a scooter from her to make your Ella experience extra special (works out much cheaper than getting a tuk-tuk every time). Every morning the owner brings you a nice breakfast with a smile.

The road at the back of cottage is very noisy and only calms down late at night. But if you are there to explore and come home late it won't be a problem.

Good. Had different varieties View of a falls from the property is great

Amazing host, the breakfast she made was so delicious and different each day. The room is set overlooking the ella valley and a waterfall. It was such a peaceful and comfortable stay, missing it already! The perfect hideaway and close enough to walk down into the town!

had a fantastic stay at rokky hill. The room was clean, comfortable, and well-maintained. From the balcony, we enjoyed a beautiful view, including the stunning Kitthal Ella Waterfall, which made our mornings even more special. The host was incredibly kind and helpful, always ensuring we had everything we needed. Breakfast was absolutely amazing, with delicious options to start the day. She also guided us on the best places to visit and even arranged a rental scooter for us, making it much easier to explore the area. Overall, our stay was truly enjoyable, and I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a relaxing and memorable experience!"

The guesthouse has so much character, a real treat when most places are quite plain & boring; Khanchinna’s fun character shows in this ☺️ This bedroom has the best view, comparing it to other places in Ella it really does have a truly splendid vista over to Ella rock, Ella gap and a beautiful waterfall which you ca hear from bed. It is a little out of the centre of Ella, which is great to avoid the hustle & bustle of the tourist chaos, and the pollution. The room is simple: one double bed with mosquito net, good clothes hanging, a couple side tables, and a small fridge; and a simple bathroom also. The main takeaway point is definitely the balcony with its view, we spent most of our time sitting here taking in the views of the surrounding hills, waterfalls, train view, and at night the amazing stars! The host is so wonderful & sweet and made us feel so very welcome, she is an incredible cook also, so the included breakfasts were some of the best we’ve had in Sri Lanka! There’s a little shop and restaurant a stones throw away too.

Nothing much. Tuktuks and buses going up and down the hill can be a little noisy but you can’t really avoid that anywhere in Ella.

Very lovely lady that runs the cottage. She was very helpful all throughout our stay. The breakfast is plenty and delicious. We weren’t really aware that it was gonna be a free standing cottage with just the room and a bathroom, but that might be a lack of research before booking. It’s definitely more on the simple side of rooms, but if you’re looking to be further away from the crowds in Ella, this might be for you :)

There was heavy rainfall the last couple days before we arrived and the bedding was a little moist. Might be unavoidable with the weather though.

We enjoyed it so much here!! The cottage is the perfect place to relax!! What we liked most was that there are no direct neighbours, it’s clean, has a huge comfortable bed and a great view! The lady who runs it is really friendly and helpful too. First we had some trouble finding it. It’s 5 meter under the road on the opposite side of the sky green hotel. Thank you so much! We would have loved to stay even longer!! 100% recommendation!

The view is worth the tuk tuk ride up there. Kanchana brought us tea on arrival and was very welcoming. I called her from the station as it is very difficult to find without help. She sent a tuk tuk to pick us up. We did 4 tuk tuk rides in total which were massively overpriced, but worth it to avoid walking the steep hill!

I spoke to Kanchana about the bedding - no top sheet or pillows. She totally understood and is going to sort it out. It would be good to have a tray of tea making things to go with the kettle. We Brits do like an early morning cuppa!

Amazing place, wonderful view, comfortable and very clean! The view was amazing and peaceful as a little bit away from the busy centre. We were made to feel at home by this beautiful family. The breakfast was absolutely delicious and we also had a candle lit dinner served to us on the balcony. Really good food for a great price. Unbeatable. We spent 2 nights and would have stayed longer if we could. Absolutely recommended.

The view from the room is very beautiful, with a waterfall in front of it. The room is good enough according with the price.

The most beautiful view to wake up to! The location was convenient to get to the tourist places. The hostess is a very nice lady. She got in touch a good few days before our arrival in Ella. Gave clear instructions to find the place. We had a hearty, large home-cooked breakfast with an amazing view right after a sunrise trek. The hostess was good enough to leave a big cold-drink bottle along with other amenities on our arrival. The room was spacious.

the accommodation is great. an incredibly beautiful view and you are on your own. everything is clean and well maintained. In the morning there was a great breakfast on the balcony and when we had to leave early the next morning, she prepared a breakfast for us to take away and organized a tuktuk for us to the train station. the owner is incredibly friendly and helpful♥️ we felt very welcome. If you are in Ella, you should definitely stay in this accommodation

Amazing! highly recommended, and hot water

This stand alone bungalow nestled amongst tree with a private terreace and dramatic views of the valley and waterfall below was such a find. Immaculately clean, a hot shower and large comfy bed. Kanchana and her family were the most delightful hosts. So friendly, helpful and welcoming. Oh and the breakfast ❤️

There was nothing to not like about this place.

Great View

Bad internet connection

Beautiful room, delicious breakfast, the owner is really nice and the view from the terrace when we had breakfast was something special and unique

Very nice hostess, made us tea/coffee at arrival, and also when we were leaving. Not a bad location, but long walk uphill when walking back from the center, so would have preferred to stay closer by the city. Look at the pictures in the reviews to have a good idea of what the room looks like, because the original pictures do not look that much like it... ;)

Sadly, we did not have such a great time here. The roof was not attached to the room, so there were just constantly animals inside the (bath)room: frogs, lizards, other animals my boyfriend did not even dare to tell me... I guess we did not realize how much it would be a problem, because all the other reviews are over the moon about this stay... Again, the hostess was lovely, but it was not enough for us to enjoy our stay here. I did not sleep great because of how uncomfortable I felt, but if you like to be this much in nature, then it's probably great for you :) Also: wifi did not work, but honestly, that was about everywhere we stayed in Sri Lanka

The view

Bed sheet torn and with cigerette holes in it. There were cockeroaches in room. Access to property was slippery. Amenities were not as advertised but owner a nice person

Location was good and owner was pleasant, even text to check we was ok during the evening whilst we was out in the town. View from the property of the waterfall is also good.

Not as clean as expected, we booked to stay two nights however on the 2nd day, we come back to the room and the roof was leaking all on to the bed and it was soaked - the lady did let us check out and only pay for our one night stay so wasn’t all bad but obviously not ideal.

Owner is best cooker Privacy since it is independent property Bike rental option

Our host was kind and generous, wonderful woman and a fantastic chef ! Huge portions of beautiful home cooked meals delivered to our balcony, a massive bedroom, hot water.. a lovely treat in Ella, and there's THE VIEW !! This best place we stayed at in 15 days travelling around Sri Lanka.

Leaving.

lovely friendly host that goes above and beyond to make you have a nice stay. the view is unbeatable

Everything was perfect ! The host is the nicest person on earth ! She will make your stay in Ella incredible

This place is impossible to beat! The room was wonderful, nestled in the nature overviewing the waterfall. The host is absolutely amazing. She made us feel at home from the moment of check in till the last minute, great host and fantastic cook. The breakfast and the dinner were delicious (every night a new dish to try… never a disappointment! Ps loved the jackfruit!). This place deserve a 10/10, highly recommended! I think the place was definitely the highlight of Ella!

Amazing view, super nice and caring host. Took care of everything we asked and helped a lot. Private and quiet place, good location. Eating Breakfast at the porch is amazing.

There is a small opening in the bathroom so some insects come in. The price including laundry and scooter came up a little bit higher than we expected.

Breathtaking view. Every morning I couldn’t believe I woke up in such a beautiful place. The weather in Ella is healing after hot beaches. We stayed in Rokkyhill for 7 days and would definitely stay longer. Kanchana prepared delicious breakfast and took care of everything we requested. She is very kind and friendly. We also rented a bike from her when we needed for the same price as in Ella. Walking downhills towards the railway you could find lots of authentic local cafes.

you can find minor inconvenience described in other comments, keep them in mind if anything of that is significant to you

Spectacular views and super friendly host who genuinely cares about her guests. The little cottage has everything you need for a comfortable stay: great mattress, fridge, kettle, hair dryer, warm water. Can honestly say that staying at Rokkyhil was the highlight of my Sri Lankan trip.

Views

Best accommodation since our stay in Sri Lanka, very helpful hostess who gave us good tips for excursions. Location: 5 minutes by tuktuk to the city. Perfect location for the hike to Ella Rock and to the waterfall you can see from the balcony.

Location, stuff and view😍

WI Fi very slow. Better to use your own sim card. Only 3 power sockets
