Brilliant hotel- stayed over whilst visiting family, the had an amazing Christmas event on, brilliant! Got some Christmas 🎄 gifts sorted from the fabulous stalls!
Lovely room
Not had breakfast yet
I stayed at the Holiday Inn Rotherham North when I was taking part in the Rowbotham's Round Rotherham 50 mile event which started and finished a short walk away at Manvers Waterfront Boat Club. The hotel was an excellent 2 night base allowing me to be near the start line early morning and a very close bed when I finished in the evening. The staff were the highlight of my stay, being very helpful and friendly - 'Ryan' specifically, could not help me enough and took the time for a lovely chat. The room and facilities were just right for what I needed.
Was a very last min booking, bit out of the way & we didn't know the area at all. Staff helpful, shops & places for food nearby. Breakfast included, problem with coffee machine, staff stepped in & made coffee from the bar. Would return if in the area & needed a place to stop
Very friendly, yet professional staff, also very efficient, the room was exceptionally clean, in all areas and all the room facilities were excellent........there was an excellent choice for breakfast, catering for everyone, everything was fresh, the cooked food was hot and a great choice of drinks, hot and cold.......we didn't use the bar, but it looked very clean with a good range of drinks.......all in all a very enjoyable stay and we'll definitely be back, thank you.
They should have more information on their meal availability.
On arrival we were pleasantly greeted by concierge called chad at the reception he was pleasant he was polite and very professional and most of all helpful and very informative and we couldn’t have asked for more which made the start of our day absolutely wonderful, the room was what we expected only downside we couldn’t find a usb port to charge our devices soo we had to use the tv usb port which as we all know is a very slow charge, we slept well as no noise anywhere bed ok amenities fine shower in room good no complaints really, parking was ok as we booked in late about 10pm with still parking spaces, breakfast well it was superb I say superb because of the fact that for £55 a night including breakfast is a no brainer there was sausage, bacon, scrambled eggs, beans, toaster for toast, tea coffee so for the price it was excellent would I stay here again and would I recommend it to friends and family it’s a massive definite YES
The receptionist was very nice, welcoming, friendly and helpful she checked us in speedily, have us the information we wanted regarding evening meal and breakfast. The room was very comfortable and nice, it was quiet, WiFi was good, breakfast was freshly cooked, there was a good selection and it was delicious. Would recommend staying there.
Obviously recently updated, the property was in very good condition throughout.
Warm and friendly welcome upon arrival
The shower was not working, my partner had to have a freezing cold shower to wash the soap off. I could not have a shower and the shower room absolutely stunk of sewerage. I have a video of the shower not working
Would recommend them.
Really comfy beds. Very welcoming staff
Breakfast was above average. Parking was good. Air conditioning worked. Good friendly staff.
What an absolute dump of a place avoid at all cost rooms are filthy and that's no joke walked in the 1st room very horrible smell at least 7 large brown shxt stains on carpet A piece of carpet even missing A turd in the toilet Bottom of the toilets badly stained and the shower plug was BLACK Shower and toilet had pubic hairs and even on telephone in room Shower was filthy Broken kettle thick with dust and still filled with water Lamp shade thick in cobwebs some work some don't This hotel has suppose to have been refurbished after housing immigration but no way on this earth all I can say is they employed blind contractors hotel walls in room and communal area bad marked doors damaged and stained Breakfast was ok it was free that was basically to get people back in using the hotel after bad publicity in news from riot Staff was friendly I can't knock that
I wasn’t going to book this hotel after reading the reviews but I’m glad I did everything was perfect the lovely guy on reception greeted us with a friendly smile and checked us in with no problems I had the double room with a bed settee I asked for a cot for our daughter as she can’t sleep in a proper bed yet the travel cot was placed in the room with a proper soft mattress and it was made up ready for her to sleep in with blankets provided the double bed was comfortable with fresh clean bedding the room itself was perfect for our needs super clean and fresh the shower cubicle was large enough for 2 people the power shower was really nice and refreshing after a busy stressful day traveling breakfast was provided but it’s a buffet style help yourself plenty of hot and cold food to choose from and hot and cold drinks available I will be definitely returning when visiting family in the future
Very friendly staff, plenty of parking available. Double room very comfortable bed and plenty of pillows. The only issue is the road noise which is constant all night.
Staff was great. Clean rooms. Great breakfasts.
Good property, but restaurant staff strength is very low.
Check in was super easy and greeted with a friendly smile and plenty of parking, room was clean and very spacious, plenty of tea and coffee, bed was comfy and a good size, downside was we were woken at 11.30pm by other guests who had arrived it sounded like elephants above us you could hear kids running around along the corridor, we had a 6 hour drive the following day so I did call down to reception regarding this. We had room 110 on the first floor. Breakfast was really good full cooked options with cereals, fruits, fruit juices with tea and coffee options we had breakfast at 9am which was extremely busy. All in all a good stay it just a shame we were woken by inconsiderate guests.
Recommend and very good value for money
Basic room, but that's what you expect. Bed was comfy, bedding white cotton, towels big (upstairs neighbours noisy, but it's a roll of the dice). Breakfast plentiful. No frills, no luxury, but you don't expect that do you? If you do, then go spend double somewhere else. Essentials are good, great value for money
I booked an accessible room as I was travelling with my mother who has a wheelchair. Disabled parking bays right next to reception and plenty of parking, all free made arrival easy. The room was spacious enough for the wheelchair and the roll in shower with seat had great water pressure. Pull cords in bedroom and bathroom. Lowered basin etc. Beds were very comfortable. We needed a fridge to store my Mums insulin, they let us use the hotel fridge. We were severely delayed by the M25 closure and arrived after midnight. I kept Laura on the front desk updated and advised we would not arrive until 1am. So glad we booked this hotel and not a small hotel or BnB as arriving after midnight would have been a huge issue. The hotel has 24hr manned front desk and we received a warm welcome from Brendan. The staff in the hotel are fantastic and cannot do enough for you. I have been an IHG member since 2010 and can say whoever trained the staff here knows exactly what the word Hospitality means to guests! A big thank you to the staff and management and we will certainly return.
The carpet in the room was heavily stained in multiple areas which gave a very poor first impression. The rest of the hotal was nice. The room we were given was on the road side and was quite noisy from the traffic.
The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful throught the stay. Breakfast was excellent plentiful and cooked to perefection.
We had one night here enroute to Skipton the next day. Not sure why there are so many negative reviews. The hotel was really opened 28th March 2025. We were checked in by Chad very friendly and polite we were in room 145 a spacious room clean with a large shower. We decided to grab a drink at the bar and chose something from the menu. For a night or two its fine, The young lady serving us was also lovely. Yes its basic but it was very clean, new carpets being laid in public areas. Breakfast next morning was adequate hot and plentiful.
Nice clean room, with everything I needed, including a decent shower. Limited food offering though, but what I ordered was cooked well and no complaints about quality. Eboni was great, especially her multi tasking skills. Professional and polite and friendly, 5 stars! *****
Staff were excellent
Likes: The buffet breakfast (included in the price), was outstanding. The equal of any to be found in more expensive hotels. The staff were exceptional. Several were seen over the 2 days, but all were very polite and went out of their way to be helpful. The room was clean, with a large super-king bed and a good en-suite bathroom. Dislikes: The carpets in the bedroom corridors on level 3 have seen better days. The on-off controls on the shower in room 350 were difficult to move with wet hands. Also the shower tray did not drain properly, leaving a small pool of water on the vinyl floor covering, which required mopping up to avoid it becoming a slip hazard. We stayed for 2 nights and noted that the room was not made-up between sleeps. This was not an issue for us, and perhaps it is standard practice these days - we don't usually stay in hotels for multiple nights. I don't usually complete questionnaires to rate purchases, but I felt that this hotel exceeded our expectations and deserves some recognition.
Average stay. TV didn't work , WiFi was terrible and breakfast not fresh enough!
The staff were lovely but sadly it was the worst hotel room I have ever stayed in. The rooms carpet was stained and looked filthy, the chair had dust/dandruff all along the top of the backrest, the bedroom wall had black marks on it and I could not turn the shower head as it was so stiff. The road noise kept me awake until the early hours along with the noisy Aircon, ventilation shaft and a buzzing light fixture. I would have gone down to reception to complain but my partner was sound asleep, as he can sleep through any noise. I also woke up with insect bites across the back of my kneck, which weren't there the night before! For the amount of guests attending breakfast there is only 1 coffee machine so there was a very long wait. I have advised reception of all the above, I am just letting you know about Room 206.
Nothing to dislike
Seem less check in good beer on tap(Madri) good breakfast. Air conditioning big plus on a very hot day.
A very pleasant stay. Very quiet area with Aldi right in front.
OK
Positives: clean. comfortable bed. Pleasant staff. Breakfast included. Adequate parking. Negative: temperature in room difficult to control. Hotel ‘tired’. Long drive to hotel from M1. Ok for one night stop over.
Normally don’t have an issue with Holiday Inn Express, and use all the time when away on business, but this one, well what a disaster. The hotel lacks any soul, it’s cold and unfriendly, staff don’t have customer service skills and appear like customers are an inconvenience to them. The WiFi is terrible, totally unstable and trying to work in my room ended impossible, carpet had stains on it in the bedroom, and for the 3 nights I was staying here, I had a empty body wash in the shower, not replaced. Certainly not a hotel I will recommend to colleagues or return to, such a shame as gives Holiday Inn Express a bad name.
Didnt even get to my room even i pay infront online with refund policy. The hotel didnt have rooms at all and said they dont know how hotels.com even allow to book. Now i am without sleep without money and was all knight in my van
Room was lovely and comfortable, very clean.
Very large room with comfy beds. Good breakfast, great value for money
I enjoyed the stay it was nice and comfortable
This hotel is basic, functional is the word. Stayed here for one night as visiting relatives in Yorkshire. Reception area was full of very loud people Saturday night. The reception itself isn’t particularly comfy or ambient. A few comfy seats but they were taken up by the big party. Otherwise some uncomfortable seats in a brightly lit area. The 24x7 bar was convenient apart from there was a long wait to be served as they were very thin on the ground. Also, one of the staff didn’t know how to measure out wine! Breakfast was again functional, it did the job. Mushy scrambled eggs anyone??
All good as friendly staff
Friendly staff, nice atmosphere. Clean environment and lovely breakfast.
Yes
All good, no problems, helpful and staff pleasant.
It’s was good but breakfast has not been good many things was not their on the menu
Very friendly staff; comfortable stay
It’s okay for the price. Reception staff very friendly. Big and spacious hotel. Negative points: WiFi very weak- could not have an important video conference call. Also smart tv not connected to internet is a bigger. Housekeeping basically not existent during my 5 night stay. Breakfast quality pretty poor. Food was cold, bacon horrible. However it was free, so I guess you get what you pay for.
Clean and comfortable. Breakfast was included in the price. Free parking.
Breakfast very good
Staff was amazing and a shout out to Maxine for all her helpful insight on nearby locations and places to see as well as charming us a breakfast. Reception was also incredible and so very accommodating. The only reason for a 4 star is it would have been lovely to have a bar fridge in room. Highly recommend! Rooms were clean and stocked.
Quiet and convenient for walking into Wath centre.
Booked this as a stop over whilst attending an event at Sheffield arena. The hotel seems to be undergoing a rolling restoration which was documented in the booking info, the room was clean, comfortable and had everything we needed however we where on the main road side and there is a lot of road noise which the double glazing doesnt seem to block out. Breakfast was ok but the service was poor there arent enough tables for the amount of guests at the hotel and there seemed to be one young man running about trying whilst a couple of what looked like managers just wandered about. Overall given the price which included breakfast it was a reasonable stay but could do better.
This hotel was closed for a long time, apparently fir a refurb. Arrived in car park where a moped went past and sat in far corner watching people arrive. Felt unsafe allready. Checked in and was asked for my cards 3 digit code to pay as they cant access the “new” system. I refused and paid with my actual card as that seemed strange. Went to the lift area and the crunched up gaffer taped carpet was hardly pleasing. The room has a accicent tv with scart and no way to hook up anything hdmi or modern. The door chain was missing and skirting board hanging off and some sealent in the bathroom looked like it was put on by a blind man. I found nothing that was refurbished. Pillows rock hard bedsheets made of something that made a noise everytime you moved and the bedlight was busted. Also enjoyed the kids and dog running up an down in the middle of the night. All notices in room said breakfast 630 onwards and went down gone 7 and was told have to wait until 730. Lucky i was not in a rush. Went years ago and clearly gone down hill. If this place was fully closed to refurbish it and only opened a week or so then they must have missed my room and the carpets.
Great place to stay great location staff were great and freindly
Very friendly and helpful staff. Room was very quiet and Aircon worked perfectly. Breakfast was good. Only thing that could be improved would be a real coffee machine for breakfast drinks, quite disappointed only to have instant coffee
Great value hotel. Staff friendly, rooms very roomy ,nicely decorated. Good shower. Nice breakfast Very convenient location
Accessible room was not very good. The room was freezing, and we had to get a heater from the reception. the Wet room needs more hand rails as there's no rail near the door my wife was going in the shower when the door closes on her fingers, also the light switch near the beds are too far away you have to get out of bed to turn the lights on or off. possible fault with the new TV I was unable to watch it sat in the chair as the TV screen went blank when too close. Tap in the wet room, loose Tiling around the sink needs attention and top it off no hot water thd next morning. not forgetting the house keeping staff letting thd door close on its own making a loud bang each time
I really enjoyed my stay at the Holiday Inn. There was a musty smell though throughout the hotel , I know they are undergoing a refurb, so that may be why. Breakfast was amazing.
The staff were brilliant and extremely attentive- the poor review is not a reflection on their efforts as they sorted every issue out quickly and kindly and we thought they were great. but the hotel carpets were filthy everywhere through corridors and there were so many stains in our room. No hand wash/ shower gel or shampoo in our room (apparently stolen by last guests?!) no hot water in the sink, and the breakfast room was painfully awkward and dull- currently in what feels like a conference room? needs some music perhaps for some atmosphere? None of the tables were clean so we had to sit on the least dirty table covered in crumbs. Food selection was good, but quality poor. There was no coffee besides some instant sachets, which feels unacceptable for a breakfast buffet. Other holiday Inn express' at the same price have been much different quality.
Well happy with everything very good value for money normally stay in premier inn but thought we'd try something different and are pleased and as I said value for money. Staff also pleasant and friendly
We sadly was disappointed with this Holiday inn Express. Room smelt musty and carpet not clean. Foot prints in bathroom (not ours) shower head leaked more water and where you turn it on. Breakfast was disgusting, sausages white, bacon very pale. No proper coffee machine. We should of been warned before booking that the hotel was having a refurb and that they had no proper kitchen/dining area. Other Holiday inn express we have stayed at rooms and breakfasts been 5* so we was shocked by this one sadly. On a plus the staff are extremely friendly and give a lovely welcome.
Stayed here loads before covid for work so i didn’t bother to check the reviews and what a mistake. The hotel is being used to house asylum seekers who have made this their home by using the the corridors as children's play areas (a bike race at 10pm) with screaming kids and adults arguing. With nowhere for children to play, this is clearly not the right hotel to house a family for months. Breakfast was a disaster because as soon as food comes out, the asylum seekers take everything. NOT the fault of the asylum seeks as it must be difficult raising a family in a hotel room however paying £80 to get no sleep is not fair and the hotel should not be open to the public or at least give you a choice and warn you. The staff are great here and do a good job in very difficult situations such as i heard an asylum seeker screening at the receptionist.
Our stay was terrible, the hotel is full of imigrants, children running up and down corridor and room propped open, the place is so run down, rooms were unclean, remote didnt work, some toiletries were empty, stain in bathroom and mould and marks on walls in bedroom ,lamp shades all split, noise from road.
Was woken up by phone, when not for me, also by staff entering room at 11.30 at night, they were not given informaion about it being occupied. Bit worring, the girl on desk next morning appoligised Children running around in corridoors till very late, if stayex again would like quieter area.
Hotel looks lovely and new, however stains in carpets, drawings on walls, heating coming on through the night as timer had been messed with. The hotel had just recently reopened and staff although very helpful were still getting used to the online system. Decided to have our evening meal there only one menu no children's menu although the staff told us what was available for him, and the food was lovely, couldn't have the drinks we wanted as the drinks machine hadn't been gassed however the staff were very helpful, so had a laugh about it. Beds were comfortable and clean but with the heating coming in made it very uncomfortable night, bathroom big as was the shower. Breakfast was a nightmare, kids carrying trays full of everything saw one table with 5 full overflowing trays not a problem with that, we had some cearel and went to look at the cooked breakfast to find 2 slices if bacon and nothing else even though it had been mentioned to staff that it was running out, by the time it was cooked we'd had enough waiting around and left. We were planning another couple if visits but security guards all over the place breakfast running out not been able to have the drinks we actually wanted I don't think we'll be back. Confused about the security guards why are they needed, why did the breakfast run out ? Although the staff were lovely 3 staff to do the cooking and front of house definitely not enough
The Staff really tried their best to help, the room wasn't clean, the heating was broken but they provided a radiator, poor receptionist was rushed off her feet but it felt really uncomfortable staying in a Government Holding Facility, additional security was off putting and it felt I was intruding into people's homes, not their fault but not my choice either, very sad situation.
We arrived mid evening and was checked in efficiently. However, on entering the room it was like an ice box and heating didn’t appear to work. I phoned reception and Ryan said he would try to locate a portable heater. This was brought by Ryan in about 15 minutes. This warmed the room nicely. Thank you Ryan for making our stay comfortable. Breakfast was good and had a reasonable selection. There appears to be ample free parking. Would stay again.
Very poor hotel, staff are nice and friendly but that’s where the positives end. The communal area is a rubbish tip, the corridors are full of children running around unsupervised. The corridors are used as a sort of back garden or play area so don’t expect to relax in your room. Was in the room for 15 minutes before I asked for a refund. The hotel is housing migrants / refugees Once again reception staff very good and said I could have refund and leave. Great staff
As others have commented the hotel is being used to house refugees, whilst i have the greatest sympathy for such people I do not wish to unwittingly stay in a hotel which is housing them en masse. Children running up & down the corridors & up and down in the lifts (all hours) men congregating around reception which was a little unnerving, bins overflowing in corridors, unmissable stench of stale curry everywhere. Women only seen at Breakfast & it was like a market, picking up & putting back unwrapped foods. I felt sorry for the staff, young girls having to deal with this all they could do was smile, apologise and try their best. The rooms weren't much better, electrical kettle not PAT tested since 2019, empty viagra blister packs in sugar pot, bulbs not working... Never again. I'd travelled 6 hours for a business meeting, this was my only restbite between the meeting and the return journey home. We'll be staying at the Premier Inn next time
The hotel is homing refugees who have NO respect for staff or guests the children run up & down the hall jumping off bed and riding bikes in hotel halls colliding With guests if you knock on there door to ask to keep it down they just smile & close the door the staff also ask them to keep the noise down but they don’t care should you stay ( I will never use holiday inn again )you will be hard pushed to get breakfast as the women load up trays with food and take it up to there rooms.l would like to say I not a raciest & ever one deserves a good life but as a worker I need sleep and a breakfast
Staff pleasant and friendly given the circumstances. Unfortunately hotel is being used for the government to house refugees, and they are leaving the communal areas as a dumping ground. I was not informed to any of this prior to my booking. It says a lot when the hotel has to have 24hr security patrolling the reception area. No hot meals served on site the day of my arrival, again not advised of this. Thankfully there is a restaurant across the road. Breakfast is buffet help your self.
From outside looks smart, plenty of free parking although the waste area can be seen. Staff were efficient and helpful and obviously downtrodden, this is because its ostensibly being used to house the refugees. As a result the place is a tip, takeaway boxes everywhere, kids running up and down. The only amenities available are tea making facilities which are decimated by people with no consideration. Rooms are basic, aircon is hit and miss, and the public areas are tired and unclean, food service is limited. Staff do their best but it's a massive disappointment.
Greeted by security staff. Found out later that hotel is hosting families for the home office. Wasn’t happy and did not feel safe. Did not sleep first night and left a day early. Still waiting for refund. Furniture in room very tired and abused. Lobby downstairs carpets and furniture very used and abused. We stayed here 5 years ago and loved it - sad decline and won’t be staying again.
Plastic knives and forks at breakfast was the final straw… had to ask for scrambled eggs and bacon! Should have. Even warned about hotel usage for refuges as security was everywhere. N ok t pleasant stay at all… never going back!! Holiday Inn never agsin
Not upto the usual IHG standards. Appeared to be being used as a host safe house to Afghan refugees and Covid testing centre. Compromised the restaurant area difficult to access a seat untill the residence had departed. Hotel looked stripped of its features . Room likewise and air con not functioning, a fan was supplied. Could do much better
Excellent parking. The room was a good size and the bed was very comfortable. Would have prefered more of a hot choice for breakfast but the continental was good. Not enough space in the breakfast area.
Didn’t end up staying at this hotel. It was full of Afghan Refugees with children running riot, in and out of the lift, urinating in the corridor and the adults being aggressive and abusive.
This place is really getting tired. For a fairly new hotel maintenance is poor; switches falling off, first floor hall carpet looks like a moto cross track, amenities and equipment regularly - aircon in the summer, on most recent stay none of the electronic door locks worked for two days (and were still awaiting repair on departure) so guests had to be let into their rooms each time by staff, often having to wait around 15 minutes. The staff are great, it must be said, but you have to feel for them as the facilities they have to work with are awful. Pretty sure I'll be finding alternative places to stay the next time I'm in the area.
After parking the car and walking to reception the first thing I noticed was a can of fake Stella behind one of the pillars outside and smokers corner outside of reception with cigarette ends all over the ground, possibly because the receptacle on the wall was filled to bursting point. It doesn’t make a good first impression! Once inside though the place was pleasant enough, the guy on reception was great. Clearly needs some maintenance on a few areas such as a misted window and water damaged window sill and some carpets here and there. The room was pleasant enough for an older HI Ex. Disappointed though that a number of bulbs were off or light fittings didn’t work and how stained the sofa was. I had read the reviews about the air-con, but didn’t see a problem as it was September, and wasn’t expecting a mini heatwave! Room was far to warm. Yes there was a fan supplied and did cool the room, but too noisy to sleep with it on.
We checked in earlier than expected after calling the hotel en route to Yorkshire Wildlife Park and experiencing heavy rain across the M62. After some deliberations with house keeping whilst on hold we went to Hotel to visit Wildlife Park later in day and arrived 12noon for what we appreciated was an extra early check in. I am a Gold Elite member of the IHG Rewards Club and I have extensively stayed for Business and Leisure, strangely I was not offered the choice of points or complimentary drink. Just points arrived unsolicited after check on - this was resolved with a revisit to reception and a drink voucher provided although the hotel seemed to want to avoid this. Looking at the hotel is in quite a poor state of repair, carpets are stained, tables cleared for social distancing for breakfast not returned so many have to take buffet breakfast at reception and not near coffee machine etc. Light shades damaged including ones in reception. As we checked in we were advised the Air Conditioning did not work in many rooms of the hotel. This was inferred it had just happened, a quick look on Trip Advisor alerted me that this was not the case and Air Conditioning issues have been happening since 2019 (maybe earlier). Reception strangely could not identify which rooms worked, excluded a room swap if our room was without air con and suggested using the fan provided and if we needed water please request. We had specifically booked a hotel with air conditioning for medical reasons, so hoped the mitigations would work but were disappointed to be advised this at check in and not sooner. In my complaint to IHG Customer Care I have suggested that Air Conditioning as a facility should be removed from their website and partners like Trip Advisor. If you need Air Con please avoid this hotel as based on possible rumour the Hotel cannot afford to repair the system. This hotel is designed without windows and the rooms get very hot overnight (like other brands Travelodge etc.) At 4am the room felt the hottest I have ever experienced. This on a night with cloud cover and a cooler one of the Summer months. I have been offered some points for my disappointing stay but did request a full refund which has been refused by the hotel but was permissible to IHG Customer Care. The following morning a member of Housekeeping barged into our room to clean the room after knocking 5 seconds before entry, this was 850am on a Sunday. We did see the steady stream of sweaty and dishevelled guests as we had breakfast after the intrusion from our seats past reception. The cleaning staff must be used to people wanting to get out of rooms so hot they are uncomfortable. We went back up to the room after breakfast and even though we didn't need to leave so early we chose to do so as the room versus corridors and public areas was 10 or so degrees hotter even with the fan at that stage. Suggestion: please keep your corridor door open whilst room occupied or sleep in corridor it is much cooler. The hotel has asked me to 'give them another chance' and we do hold an Annual Pass for the Wildlife Park but when we enquired was this NOT an offer of a complimentary stay, I was reminded the notional amount of points offered was full and final compensation. I will not be taking them up on this offer and looking at similarly timed stay reviews I am not the only one disappointed with this hotel. In the strongest of terms, please do not stay at this hotel. Not even management could answer my queries at any stage and a member of staff has been conversing with me over my feedback - showing at best contempt for paying customers and their valid concerns.
Staffs were wonderful
The woman at breakfast area was very nice and she was very hard working The reception area is very tired looking Bed bit uncomfortable too made loads of noice when moving in bed
Very helpful staff
Arrived for a 2pm check in. Room wasn’t ready. Apparently short staffed. Had a 45 minute wait. Not happy as had an event to attend which we needed to get showered and changed for hence we were late. Bathroom wasn’t clean. No tea or coffee in our room. Did complain but were told nothing could be done as booked through Hotels.com Breakfast this morning was very busy and a wait to get in
Rooms are big enough. Unfortunately the air conditioning was not working was provided with a fan.Everything else was fine. Staff were friendly & helpful good service.
Very disappointed indeed. Our room smelt of sewerage, kind lady brought some bleach up the first night which didn't make any difference at all as the smell was not coming from the bathroom. Second day it smelt considerably worse, we were told there were no other rooms to move to, on complaining again they miraculously found us a room. The receptionist that sorted it was extremely rude, no customer service what so ever. When we arrived back at the hotel there were a group of people smoking around the entrance with a very strong smell of cannibis. I certainly don't expect this at a Holiday Inn. We later found out there were a lot of homeless people staying there, whilst this is a good thing to do, I feel it is unfair to pay £64.00 a night to walk through a cannibis haze, we both felt uncomfortable with this. Breakfast was ok although they had run out of certain items, this was annoying as we saw the same group of people that were outside filling 3/4 bags with food each. Generally the hotel is grubby, carpets stained and disgusting. I stay in Holiday Inns all over the UK and abroad and have never experienced anything like it before. We spent 4 nights at this property and feel stressed and unhappy. I seriously would think long and hard before booking with the ihg group again. Also no air conditioning. Rooms stuffy
Ive stayed here previously many times, but not since the COVID situation started. Was back in the area on business so booked. What is noticeable is that the hotel is well past a refurbishment and the cost cutting and drop in standards is obvious. The staff pleasant enough but its not enough to make up for no air con, no bath towels (I got one 2nd night after they arrived) cleaning standards at the absolute minimum in the bedrooms and breakfast still operating a penny pinching hot sandwich service with very cheap bread rolls.
We’ve stayed here many times over the past 3 years and have noticed the gradual deterioration of the hotel. Decor very shabby and everywhere needs refurbishment. Stained walls, damp patches in bathroom, cigarette butts outside and carpark littered. When I stayed with my parents 6 weeks ago, the air con wasn’t working and I had to ask for towels as they’d only provided one set for my parents room, despite two occupants in their room. We’re here again for 4 nights and sadly the same again, only one set of towels for my husband and I (reception told me there was a towel shortage nationwide) and the air con is still broken (although working downstairs). Disappointing when all the past reviews mention the air con being broken for a considerable length of time but the email received in advance intimated that they were waiting for an engineer to fix it imminently. Fans just blow the hot air around the room and the windows do not open. We fully appreciate the challenges faced during this pandemic and any operational difficulties which result, but there’s no excuse for lack of towels and lack of maintenance. Sadly we won’t be returning here again.
Outside of hotel needs a clean up as we were greeted by cigarette ends and lots of litter by the entrance. Staff were lovely and very friendly and couldn’t be faulted. Check in was easy. When we got to our floor the lift door opened and we were surprised at the state of the carpet, it was all warped and made be floor uneven. The carpet had marks on from where suitcases had been pulled along and it was obvious the carpet was very dated and needed to be replaced. When we got to our room it seemed clean but on closer inspection of the bathroom we found lots of long hairs everywhere which we didn’t understand why they hadn’t been removed as they were very obvious. First nights stay was ok but the doors do not keep the noise out and we could hear every single conversation as people walked past as there is a gap under the door to our room which let a lot of noise in. Some young men decided to let off a what sounded like a fire extinguisher late on too. The second night was terrible. We had been to Alton Towers that day and looked forward to a nice rest which wasn’t the case, the person above us must have been Nelly the Elephant in the middle of moving furniture because the stomping and banging was horrific and did not stop. Even if we had rang down to reception - what could they have done? We then had people opposite us CONSTANTLY banging on their door. I’m guessing they were locked out on several occasions. The knocking was soo loud it woke me up 3 times. Didn’t sleep well at all.
New build hotel, no air conditioning as broken. Key cards not working. Breakfast in a bag. To top it all some poor bloke in bed when they opened my room. Not great 😌
Staff are friendly but were not wearing name badges. This clearly shows how management are not in control of even the basics on presentation. I guess if I worked there I would want to hide my name as well. There was no visible management around which doesn't really surprise me. Aircon does not work and has been down in some rooms since lockdown started. Owners are holding back on making the refurbishment because of cost as staff openly told me and other guests. This alone make me ask about why this hotel is a Holiday Inn. It DEVALUES the Holiday Inn brand. Their was a fan in my room but with zero air coming in then just moving air about is pointless. This is not a HI that will ever use again and have stayed in circa 20 countries in HI.
Very good except air con did not work..which they knew before giving us the room..however they did provide fan but it was not very good.
Had to have a room change as beds for my children weren't made up and room was dirty and mold in the bathroom. Second room needed maintenance as lights weren't working and again mold in the bathroom air vent.
Very nice hotel near to a lovely big lake which was great to walk around. Great pub nearby with tremendous value food and drinks. We have been to 3 different Holiday Inn Express’s in the last 3 days. All were good but this was the best one of all.
Booked this hotel as it advertised Air Condiitioning and it was humid weather. We were disappointed to find a fan in our room as the air con not working. The fact that the windows didn’t open meant an uncomfortably hot room. Unfortunately there was no WiFi either, which was also advertised. The staff were pleasant and helpful but were in an impossible situation, unable to solve either issue. The bed was very comfortable ( although the mattress creaked). The towels were huge and beautifully clean. We were also granted a free late check out. Would book again if the air con and WiFi worked.
Lots of parking on arrival, friendly enough reception, rooms clean and tidy as you’d expect, ate dinner and it was good( mixed grill), breakfast not quite what I expected but different due to COVID. Not a five as had some idiots with loud music sat in there car outside reception until quite late, not sure what they were doing there to be honest and staff should have got rid..! Part form that have been back once since with no issues. Thanks.
Very disappointing stay, the hotel itself whilst generally clean is very grubby and needs decorating, on the day the air conditioning was not working, lifts broken. Window sound insulation insufficient to silence the adjacent road - it was like sleeping in a lay-by. Staff friendly and polite only positive, but can’t make up for poor nights sleep.
