Hume Hotel & Spa

Staff were great, room was clean and comfortable

A little pricey

The location, staff, cleanliness are good. The Library restaurant where we ate dinner was terrific.

There was music playing somewhere close by which was pounding through half the night. Our room was on the 3rd floor and we had ear plugs to lessen the sound but it was so load we could still hear it as clear as day!

Such a great hotel, full of character. The rooms are lovely, location is great. We enjoyed the bar and restaurant.

There is no parking but a parkade is nextdoor.

Sehr zentral und sauber

Etwas alt und in die Jahre gekommen. Die 5 Sterne haben uns nicht erschlossen

Right away the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. The Library Lounge was a highlight. The best part was that we forgot some jewelery in the room without realizing and we were contacted and had it sent to us.

Beautiful period hotel, excellent location, had a fantastic dinner in the hotel restaurant . Comfortable well appointed rooms.

Friendly staff, clean room, comfortable beds. Very beautiful historical building.

Could easily hear through the doors and rooms, so we didn't feel like we had privacy. It was hard to move around the beds due to the tight space, but recognize it was part of the experience.

Location

Nothing

Zimmer klein und Ausstattung nicht wie erwartet

my friend took me for a amazing birthday lunch in Library lounge today, ang was our server always a smile excellent service, We had fish n chips delicious large portion, so much so we could not eat it all. Then the most delicious chocolate cake for dessert moist and scrumptious!!

The staff are great and we love the location! I had a lovely massage at Aura.

The hotel itself is showing a lot of wear and tear. The furniture in our room was "distressed" and not what one would expect for the cost. The main floor could use new flooring. The carpet is worn out and there is a strong odour at the back entrance (hard to name it... ).

Spent the night here with 12 people traveling on motorcycles. Great location with good pubs and restaurants in the building and also right in the downtown core of Nelson. Very walkable to enjoy the area.

Its a bit on the pricey side and a tad noisy if you're trying to get to bed early (but our group was part of the noise ;-)

Clean, welcoming.

No ramps, no parking on site not ideal.

Exellent !

The only very bad point is there is no cosy place to relax.

absolutely fantastic. Excellent staff, quiet, clean rooms ( we took one NOT above the bar), and the hot breakfast menu was very good. Highly recommend.

Room is lovely

No gym

The location was perfect for walking to downtown shops and the river. The room and bed were very comfortable and quiet even though this room was above the pin

Can’t beat the location Parking arrangement was excellent

Great staff. Super nice and helpful. Great location and vibe.

Parking wasn’t perfect but still works well.

Good location. Pleasant staff.

Hotel allowed loud, annoying music to be played loudly inside and outside the Pub until midnight. There is no soundproofing in the building. When I complained the desk staff told me to use earplugs.

The location to down town. Comfy bed and clean room. Mikes pub staff.

Lots of road noise, and a funky door in the halls maybe the carpet?

Location

Noise coming from bar

Beds were comfortable and room was clean. Great central location downtown. The restaurant was absolutely amazing!

Not the hotels fault but found out after booking online that if you book directly with the hotel you get free breakfast in hotel restaurant.

The hotel itself was very special. It reflected the era of the "Golden Age". The staff were all very pleasant and friendly and the restaurant was perfect. Would recommend to anyone who is visiting

Beautiful completely updated old hotel. The staff is very helpful. The hotel is in downtown Nelson in a good location, but there is some traffic noise. The restaurant was fairly priced with good food.

Location, ambiance, staff, history. The library restaurant was awesome.

Bathrooms were a little small but clean.

The staff were great and the hotel was wonderful.

The complementary breakfast was not included because we didn’t booked thru the Hume web site . At the price we paid for our room, the breakfast should have been included

Best spa treatment I've ever had! Great location and good food and bar.

Love the Library Pub - food, style, ambiance. Tub in room.

Room had no view out. Other guests not mindful of loudness when they are in room hallways. No bathrobes. That the General Store breakfast isn’t near the quality of the Library Pub menu. Strange pub RSVP procedures confusing for guests.

Each time we stay at this property, we have a fantastic experience. Most recently I made an error but instead of stating the obvious, they were their classy usual selves and helped me correct it instead of berating me. Our group will always choose the Hume hotel for the entire experience. We also love the Library lounge and restaurant. Wr thoroughly enjoyed our cocktails and meal there again. This is a gem in a community we adore. Thank you Hume Team!

Hotel was located in the right place.

If you’re considering staying at The Hume Hotel in Nelson, read this first. We booked a room that did mention potential noise from the pub below—fair enough. What was not disclosed was the level of disruption we actually experienced: sustained, excessive noise, including loud altercations late into the night that made it impossible to rest. When we raised the issue, we were moved to a “premium suite,” which sounded promising—but the noise followed us. So the “solution” didn’t actually solve anything. We were also offered breakfast, only to be told the next morning it was restricted to a few items and coffee wasn’t included. Not a huge issue on its own, but it added to a pattern of inconsistent communication and half-follow-through. To their credit, they did offer a partial discount. However, what truly stood out—and not in a good way—was the hotel’s final written response to us. Instead of acknowledging the experience or taking accountability, they blamed us for booking a lower-priced room and ended their message with: “Please stay somewhere else upon your next visit to Nelson.” That alone tells you everything you need to know about how this hotel handles customer concerns. This isn’t about expecting luxury—it’s about basic hospitality, accurate communication, and professional treatment. Unfortunately, this stay missed the mark on all three. There are plenty of other places in Nelson that understand what hospitality actually means. I would strongly recommend choosing one of them instead.

I never got the Wifi password but to be fair never asked for it either.

We visited in September for a few days renting a suite. and enjoyed it so much we extended our stay and they accommodated us. Due to this stay we thought we would book again. This time we stayed in a king room, it was clean tidy and huge. As per normal the breakfast in the morning, was excellent. The waiters and waitresses were friendly and chatty and made you feel relaxed. We drank and ate a few times Mike's place, the service and the food and drink were excellent. The reception staff were always cheerful and friendly and the room attendants, were always cheerful with a hello. We travel alot and all the places we have stayed in Europe and North America this is our favourite. The hotel is tastefully designed and very clean. Staff are super friendly and helpful. When visiting this area we would not consider another hotel.

The spa staff and facilities were exceptional. 3 of us had treatments and each of us raved about it. The Library, Restaurant and Mike's Place were all great as well.

Clean room in great location

Conversation from other room through ventilation system.

Location Room Decor Library lounge Beer tent

Too bright in morning so better black out curtains needed Pay parking

The whole theme

Nothing

Location staff and bar

Very small room for a lot of money

Great location, nice amenities, friendly staff.

Location and style. Bed was comfortable.

It can be noisy- based on location and activity. They very kindly placed us on the 4th floor to reduce noises.

Really enjoyed our stay in this historic property. Dining options in and around the hotel were awesome.

Love how this hotel has kept its history preserved. Clean, comfortable and friendly. Right in the heart of Nelson.

It was good

Room and staff were great

Dude

A wonderful remake from of an old hotel. Fabulous shower. Staff were most helpful.

Hotel right in centre. Classic feel to it. Stayed in Barristers Suite. A really nice contemporary comfortable suite. Great food. Same menu in three of their restaurants but they have different themes. We used the spa and had the best massage from anywhere in the world. Highly recommended

The hotel was beautifully maintained. Our room was spotless, and the staff both in reception and the restaurant were top notch. They went above and beyond to make sure we had an amazing experience. The location is prime and I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone. We are looking forward and already planning to go back.

The room was clean and updated for a hotel with much history. Staff were very professional.

Location, staff, beds, food.

Always an enjoyable trip & stay

The room was spotless. The staff was helpful, kind and professional. We liked that we could dine in the hotel or easily walk to the many restaurants and shops that Nelson has to offer. Having the City of Nelson parkade next door was a bonus.

I love the Hume and it is my go to place to stay in Nelson everytime. Something that’s worth noting however , your breakfast is not included in this booking with Expedia but it is included if you make the booking directly with the hotel.

The hotel room was spotlessly clean and comfortable. The location is perfect for walking around downtown.

Very clean and comfortable room. Great stay in every way. Will be back!!

My stay at the Hume Hotel was fantastic. What a fabulous hotel! The room was spacious and very comfortable and the staff were so friendly and helpful. Thank you for helping to make my stay in Nelson so memorable!

We really enjoyed our stay at the Hume Hotel and hope to visit again. Class all the way with lots of attention to details. Staff is friendly and welcoming. Book direct and you are treated to a great breakfast. Staying at the Hume was a highlight on our holiday! Don't hesitate to book with them.

Our entire stay was great. The staff and amenities are top shelf. I Would recommend the Hume hotel to anyone who wants 5 star accommodations

Loved it all. Bedding was top-notch . Beds very comfortable even the sofa bed. Appreciated the extra blankets. The soap was excellent. Very quiet. We were lucky and were able to park in the parking space just next to the hotel.

Just as beautiful and friendly as we all expected.

Deluxe Room, 1 Queen Bed, Multiple View (Small Economy Queen). this line from the reservation does not fully describe how small the room is. There are two rooms of this size in the hotel and they should be avoided. The only place to sit besides the bars/restaurants is the public lobby with the tour groups. A single person may be OK but two is one too many.

The bed was decent

The room was not made for 2 persons. It was so small we could not even have a place to open our luggage. It should only be provided to customers that are solo.

This was a great place to stop. Our only complaint was the lack of on site parking. Although the property did send an email advising us of this, we didnt receive it until we had already checked in. It did create a little stress upon arrival as the hotel is situated on a very busy and extremely hilly street. We were fortunate to find a relatvly close metered parking spot and because we checked in late Saturday evening for our one night stay there was no charge for the street parking.

Everything - a proper hotel

Had Minnie's room and rather noisy at night unfortunately due to outside traffic. Only quieter with window completely closed and air conditioning on which is not ideal for fresh air.- as an aside, the type of system you have for cooling does not input fresh air into a room, not your fault.

Our stay was perfect. Hotel is very centrally located and the rooms were perfect. I would definitely recommend!

I am always happy with my stay at Hume hotel.

Tastefully appointed. Not quiet, unfortunately.

Lots of dining establishments in house, fun rustic charm and friendly staff. The spa was a nice touch as well.

Blank

Breakfast was not good service was fine but the food poor

Great location for all things downtown Nelson. Great staff, easy check in/out. Spacious rooms and squeaky clean. The ability to travel with our pup made this a memorable experience.....highly recommend

Parking was a bit of a pain

A variety of restaurants in the hotel and close to downtown. It was an easy walk to the water. The decor was also very nice.

I wee bit too expensive.

Only complaint is that the walls of the rooms are EXTREMELY thin, so you can hear people's conversations. Other than that, it is a lovely property with very friendly staff and outstanding restaurants. Great central location, wonderful AC, and comfy beds. The shower had hot water for days!! And the spa was delightful!

Great

The architecture and ambiance are excellent. The rooms are very comfortable. There are a number of good choices to eat and drink. The staff are most pleasant and helpful.

Loved the hotel and the town. The hotel is perfectly located to walk everywhere. The restaurants are great. Love the vibe of the place.

We loved our stay at the Hume in Nelson! The hotel is situated in the center of this colorful town. The staff were all super friendly and helpful. Parking was not provided but wasn't a problem as I had anticipated as there is a ramp right next door that is fairly affordable and the hotel comped our parking for 2 nights anyway. Our room was large, comfortable and clean. It's an old hotel in the center of town so anticipated a little street noise, but again this wasn't a problem for us. Everything in the room worked great. We didn't try any of the attached restaurants but it smelled good and the bars looked great. We will definitely stay here again the next time we are in Nelson.
