Loved that it’s the oldest pub in Digbeth, had so much character and was so close to where I needed to be.
I couldn’t fault it. Everything was great!
I didn't have privilege of doing breakfast because of my time
I treasured the complete experience.
Great location, incredible history of the building. Staff couldn’t have been kinder and more helpful - from checkin, bar service and the lovely lady who stored our bags whilst we went for breakfast. thank you.
Beautiful building. Friendly staff. Got back later than expected from my event realising id not eaten since the morning and one of the staff served me snacks after closing, so thankyou! Clean room, great facilities. Be happy to stay again.
The towels need replacing. Hard and scratchy. My room was prone to noise pollution from outside but wasnt awful. Maybe put some privacy film on the window to let the light in but keep the dignity of customer.
Lovely historical building with good atmosphere
Booked with 2 children and wasn't told that the room had no central heating, window didn't close, bedside lights didn't work, bathroom mirror light didn't work but worse (which isn't a reflection on the hotel but would have been nice to be advised when booking with children) was that it's located next to two night clubs so sleep was impossible due to loud music and people gathering outside until gone 4am. Children had no sleep as were kept awake and were freezing as no heating and window didn't close. Not suitable for families or anyone with movement restrictions due to narrow, windy staircases.
Staff very nice. Food excellent. Room and shared bathroom very clean.
It was fine for us but the hotel is an active pub with clubs nearby. It can be loud until late. Not the fault of the hotel but should be considered.
Ideal location in Digbeth short walks from the town, busy and vibrant
Low beams bumped head only minor
An extra blanket on the bed as one was not sufficient a little chilly Mattress not that comfy to sleep. Get some comfy mattresses
Nice cosy pub with great staff, the room was surprisingly quiet keeping in mind the age of the building and that was a game night
Shared bathrooms some might quite away from the rooms; top tip: take some slippers with you
Characterful venue, friendly staff. Convenient location for my work but also some interesting independent business for dining and entertainment in the area.
Stayed here a few years now Friendly staff Great food Quirky building
Nothing
The history and location
The cost at the bar!!
Great location and good value for money
As it’s so close to town you get quite a lot of noise in the day and night.
Location and facilities
The loud music till late outside the room
Location
The noise!! It was sooo noisy until at least 3-4am with a club across the road and fights going on outside the window
A beautiful mix of modern and historic. Beautiful decor and ambience Modern and functional bar, terrace, outdoor area and lovely traditional indoor bar and dining area. Rooms are cosy but for one or two night stays, that's fine. Staff were welcoming and showed us round well. There is a nightclub over the road. We slept with the window open and still slept thru the noise, it wasn't that bad for us Toilet/shower room is fine, there were at least 2 that we found. 8 min walk from the train station, if you're a speedy walker like me We'll definitely stay again. I just wish we had time to try the food, as the menu looked fab!
Room full of character and very clean Our room was absolutely huge Bed extremely comfortable Nice big shower Great location for Digbeth nightlife
Communal corridors very tired and need new carpet, but that doesn't effect the stay
I liked the decor, the room was really spacious (it was probably an attic room in an old building - I like that style and it was decorated to really bring out the character). Really luxurious toilet, probably the largest I’ve ever had in a hotel room and with a fantastic shower. The staff member who welcomed us was super friendly and knowledgeable about how things worked.
Just two things - wifi was not working (was there just one night so didn’t have the chance to ask what was wrong with it) and we could have done with clearer instructions on how to check out (i.e., what to do with the key).
no breakfast available but we knew in advance
Sehr freundliches Personal, sehr gutes Essen, top Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis.
Good location for Digbeth. Clean room. Bed comfy.
Nightclub next door open until 4am half the week which made sleep impossible. Buss/vehicles all night right outside window. No drinking water facilities. No WiFi. TV did not work. No restock of Tea/coffee even though we stayed 2 nights (so one brew each for the whole duration). I'm surprised it gets such a high rating on this site.
Quaint, quirky, historical.
Noise central with night clubs and actives across the road until 4am
Great location if you’re out and about in Digbeth. Good food, lovely pub. Great value for money
Historical and spacious
Bed was very poor....no support
This place is a great little find. Just 10 minutes from the centre of town. Friendly pub and great staff. Brilliantly located for a gig I was going to. Nice food.
If I had to say anything, could have done with some more coffee sachets. But maybe I should drink less coffee anyway 🤣🤔 Shop a few doors down so I could get fresh milk :)
Friendly staff
The noise outside didn’t help. Not hotels fault
Location was very good staff excellent especially roy who was really helpful
Nothing
Perfect location close to centre
The bathroom smelt like sewage, which was pretty unbearable.
Cosy and relaxing. The lady who showed me to our room was exceptionally welcoming and seemed to take pride in showing us around…I think her name was Bronwyn ?
Nothing
Good Size Room Nice Bar Friendly Staff Comfortable Bed
Window couldn't open metal handle was broken Was too hot even with the fan on
The ensuite room was massive with quirky furniture, very comfortable and reasonable rates. Enjoyed live band in beer garden.
Sometimes difficult to get staff attention when very busy
It's an amazing place with a great old soul, kind stuff, near center with a nice, loud (it was football season) bar in the back. It's just really great! :D
I do NOT reccomend long stays, sice mattreses are older than the building. That is it's important but also only downside.
Stayed many times.... great location and value for money...
Bed was comfortable and clean. Staff were kind and helpful. Nice big sink and lots of hangers in the wardrobe which is rare.
No lamp by bed so main light has to stay on but room was ok for a night.
For the price excellent value. Staff very helpful.
You csn feel the charm of the pub itself. As per usual I had to stay 3 times haha. I enjoy my stay every time. The beds are well cleaned and comfortable i think and some couples think so to 🤣
The lack of air in the room is insane. I would hate to stay again when its summer and its just too hot to function as you literally sweat so much and can't even sit in your room so you sit outside lol. Guys need to invest in a do not disturb and clean room. Door handle sign. That way cleaners can do what they need to do.
Lovely building. Great location. Great value for money.
Communal bathrooms. Very noisy until the pub closed on a Saturday night (12.30).
Excellent location close to where we needed.
Given codes to access property beyond hours which did not work.
Looked old, could hear noises from outside and other rooms. Smelly
Room, smell, creaky floor
So handy for the city centre and plenty of coffee and tea to drink. Manager extremely friendly & helpful
Nothing all good
Staff are great and it’s well priced. It can be a bit noisy but it’s cheap and well located with a great pub underneath.
It is a bit noisy but so what… it is what it is.
The location is sublime - it is a very beautiful valley with great walking and the pub is very well located. Some staff very friendly but others less so.
Breakfast was disappointing. Had to pay extra for coffee machine coffee, otherwise it was out of a sachet of instant coffee. Not great for vegetarians/ vegans. Would have liked it if the karaoke was in a sound-proof room, not echoing down the valley. Some real cooking, particularly for vegan/vegetarians would also be welcome - it was all meat-free chicken alternatives or halloumi burger with limited sign of fresh produce.
Affordable stay. Comfortable lodging. Convenient for the coach station. Bonus: it’s the oldest building in Birmingham so you get a bit of history on your pub table. Not a criticism but just want to echo the other reviews: the beer garden is loud until late at night.
Nothing.
Very helpful staff and great accommodation.
Excellent hotel. Fantastic olde worlde charm.
Apart from shared bathrooms, nothing.
Staff. Amazing hospitality
The corridors. Needs refurbishment. Was there only for one night so thats more of an observation
Only go to this trash hotel if you plan on never closing an eye during the night.
This is the most garbage Hotel you can go to!!! I will just start with the worst part: This trash hotel has its own pub underneath and plays ear deafening music until 2:30 in the night!!!!! The rooms are 2 meters above the speakers and get blasted all night!!! They have no respect for their paying guests. They didn't even close their outside door so you get less music. In contrary: they OPEN their outside part so that they can blast their hotel guests EVERYDAY INCLUDING SUNDAY with Rock concert level of loudness. And I don't even mention all the cigarette and marijuana smoke that constantly flows in your room because of the loud drunk pub guests. I wanted to upload a video to booking.com, so you can check the audio for yourself. You would be absolutely shocked at the volume. When I sent the audio recording of my room to friends, everyone was shocked as hell. This RUINED my whole vacation!!! The shared bathroom was always dirty and barely cleaned. The room was dirty aswell, I hope at least there wasn't bed bugs. Hotel employees don't care for you and for check in I was treated as a disturbance, because I was not a pub guest who gets drunk. When I asked if the tap water in the room was drinkable the hotel employee just laughed at me and said how would she know. Horrible personell. Every hotel guest you saw was exhausted as hell, because NO ONE could sleep. Oh and also, this was the most uncomfortable bed I have ever slept in since it shook all night. It also shook from the bass of the ear deafening speakers on This has been the single WORST hotel experience in my whole life and you would be literally INSANE to book this hotel for your trip, except you don't plan on sleeping at all.
Super miejsce z klimatem. Zachowany charakter starego pubu.
Dużo pubów, klubów z muzyką i głośnymi gośćmi. Mnie to nie przeszkadza.
Charming building.
Ease of check in.
It is so central but I think I hadn’t realised obviously how noisy that would make it! The place was fine and thé staff really kind and helpful but k think I found it too noisy for me personally.
Just as I said, too noisy but that is not thé fault of the place. My fault for choosing à popular place in thé centre of à big City!
Authentic 14th century cottage. Beer garden.
Very noisy at night as it’s obviously on top of the pub. So okay for 1-night stay but wouldn’t stay longer.
Location and history of the building
Nothing
Staff were very friendly. Quiet and no disturbances during the night/morning. Clean bathroom
Just with the heatwave would have been nice if a fan could have been provided but wasn’t that end of the world
Lovely room, lovely staff, nice atmosphere
Night club next door noisy next door
The staff and location were great
The room was ridiculously hot. We decided not to stay and head home instead. The stairs to the 24 hour exit were filthy and benefit from carpet replacement. The corridor stank of grease.
The location
They also running a pub. Noisy, can't open the window.
Quirky pub accommodation
There was nowhere to adjust heating in room. The halls and passages were always well heated, but room was cold.
Lovely building with character in the room we had Pub underneath was great Location is superb Staff were friendly and helpful Bathroom was beautiful and clean Rooms were an excellent size
Rooms were cold at night, no heating Matresses were old and springy
Characterful building convenient for town, and close to the Custard Factory.
Nothing - it was great, although a reading lamp in room 1 would be nice.
Olly was amazing and so friendly and the room exceeded expectations. Large quirky bedroom with beams and fireplace. The bed was so comfortable! Beautiful large, modern bathroom. Just stunning and very cheap, was so impressed with it here and right in the heart of Digbeth. Just brilliant!
Great room, with a private bathroom, good facilities, good location, will definitely book again next time I am in Brum. Friendly welcome and a nice pub downstairs. Fantastic price.
Only thing that could have made it better would have been breakfast but I knew this wasn't included so all good.
Nice, cozy pub. Room was clean and the shared bathroom spaces were clean as well. Comfortable bed. Despite some negatives - was ultimately cheap and affordable
Hot water did not work for me in the morning at 8am (it was working however at other times) and ended up having to take a cold shower as I was rushing for a work event. It is advertised saying ironing facilities are available. I was given only an iron when asked without a board. My room didn't have a desk (except for the bedside table - which is too small) - was pointless getting the iron on the end. Unable to turn off the radiator in my room that was on full blast despite turning the dial to zero completely. Would've been great for winter - not so great in May. The walls separating adjacent rooms were paper thin.
Staying in a piece of history
The loud music until 11:30 pm each day (midweek)
Great location
The knob on the radiator was broken, so I couldn't turn it off. Far too warm, especially during this heatwave.
