Awful. Worst hostel experience I’ve had. My bed was missing a comforter when I arrived. The front desk didn’t believe me and spoke to me incredibly rudely before finally agreeing to send house keeping. The room was loud and smelled like smoke. They have you use metal cages as drawers in the room, which make a loud racket when opened and closed (particularly disturbing throughout the night). And my keycard suddenly didn’t work when I got home one night. I went down to ask about it and the front desk person seemed absolutely annoyed to have to deal with such an unreasonable request. If you book a bed at this hostel, I think their system marks you not as a Guest but as an Inconvenience. On the positive side, though, Eva was awesome. Kind and helpful!
I had to cancel my fully refundable and with the cancelation free period, stay at St. Christopher's Inn Gare du Nord in late January, and while the cancellation was confirmed promptly, the refund process has been frustratingly slow. It has been over 15 working days since my cancellation (Ref: STC-GDN-41793118), and I am still waiting for the Stripe receipt or any concrete proof that the funds have been released. While the automated support is polite, the lack of a "human" update on my money is concerning. I chose this hostel for its reputation, but this delay is disappointing for a frequent traveler. I hope the management sees this and expedites the process. I will update this review once the matter is resolved
Employees are nice and the rooms are clean, beds are comfy and the bathrooms are very clean. Bar is very nice, and the bar staff are very friendly
This was an amazing fun experience. We had the aperol class with other hostel members. Sam was a very nice instructor and was very hospitable
Aperol night was fun I had really great time with making my own Aperol and meet with new peapole while visiting this city.
This stay was absolutely horrible. When we arrived, there were already more than 20 people crowded into the lobby, all dealing with different issues. We ended up waiting over three hours just to speak with the single overwhelmed employee at the front desk. During that time, we met another guest who had paid for a room and went to check in—only to find a stranger already sleeping in his bed. He had been waiting nearly four hours for the staff to sort it out, with no resolution in sight. While we stood in line, at least 20 more people came in with additional problems—overbooked rooms, beds already taken, and reservation issues that seemed completely out of control. Nothing was managed, nothing was communicated, and the situation only got worse as the night went on. We arrived around midnight and didn’t get any help until about 2:30 AM, and that was just to finally speak to someone. The entire experience was chaotic, exhausting, and incredibly mismanaged. I would not recommend staying here to anyone.
The positives of the hostel are it's just minutes from the main Gard du Nord station and just 5 minutes from Gare de l'Est in the opposite direction for different metro lines. The breakfast was excellent and the staff I spoke to were friendly and welcoming. The room was very spacious even with 10 bunk beds in it and there was a huge locker under the bed, a night light, numerous sockets, and a privacy curtain and wash basin in the room. The negatives were even in November it was uncomfortably hot in the room because the heating was on all day and night. There was no fridge to store food which having lodged in hundreds of hostels around Europe I find quite amazing. The curtains on the windows were about three quarters the size of the windows so let lots of light in when you're trying to sleep. The showers and toilets were quite a walk away from my room and there were only 2 of them which in November was sufficient but in the summer when it's full will be a big problem. There's also a charge for nearly everything here so bring your own towel and padlock etc. Overall my stay was a decent one and I would say at £30 per night with breakfast included is a very good rate considering you're in Paris.
I’m not one for leaving negative reviews but I think that this hostel needs to be aware of our experience to improve in the future. I’ll start with the positives: The sports bar downstairs has a good lively atmosphere. Lots of tv screens and very friendly bar staff. The bar manager made us very welcome. The evening food was ok, the chips were hot and came fast. Unfortunately, the bar could not save this from being a 1 star review. Upon arrival we were located on the 5th floor and had to carry luggage up the stairs due to all of the lifts being broken, not a good start. The room really was quite awful, it clearly hadn’t been hoovered or cleaned for weeks, paint that had peeled off the walls remained on the floor, dirt, a belly piercing and many hairs. The real concern was the bedding, 4 of us visited this hostel and 1 had blood stains on the mattress cover, 2 with urine on the duvet. We were quite horrified and complained to reception, only for them to bring up bedding that was even worse! The beds had hairs on them and the bathroom had blood splattered on the toilet. If you stay here make sure you come prepared with a sleeping bag and cleaning supplies! Additionally, there is inadequate security here. There is nothing to stop anyone coming in up the stairs, the keycards aren’t required for the stairs, only the lift. People clearly not staying here were coming upstairs in the middle of the night. Our door did not lock properly and someone did push our door open one night. The breakfast was ok but not the best, it was mainly baguettes and fruit that was past its best. We didn’t bother most of the time we were there. Additionally there was no freely available water for guests outside of breakfast (and that was limited). The negative side to the bar was that 2/4 of us got food poisoning from the beer which had clearly not had the pipes cleaned regularly enough. We were extremely unwell for 4 days as a result of this. Very disappointing, we will not be returning.
Jack was awesome, so friendly! Great events. The place has darts. Much larger and nicer than some of the other St Christopher’s.
Jack was the best, he was so helpful and kind. The darts were a great time and so fun. The beer was great. I loved it here and will come back for jack.
Great vibes and cheap beer= great hostel. Absolute ripper staff, shout out to Jack for getting us onto the dart competition
Jack was incredible great chat brought everyone together and made a really fun and welcoming experience. Made everyone laugh and was really social and friendly. We love Jack and I’ll definitely come back to this hostel just for Jack.
Jack’s the kind of guy who makes you feel at home even when you’re 10,000 km away from it. Somehow manages to run the hostel, fix random things, and still have time for a chat and a laugh. If this place had a “host of the year” award, he’d win it — mostly because he’d probably be the one organising the competition anyway. Absolute legend!
Jack was amazing. We had an amazing time drinking aperolos and learning about Ireland. He was so sound and he made us really want to come back here
Fantastic bar. The employees were very kind. Jack in particular was terrific! Holding events and great courses for us. Amazing Jack!
It was again a very cool stay, even it was only for 3 nights. I choose that hostel because I liked it last times. It is possible to sleep, not too loud at night, the guest are respectful - compared to other hostels IMO. The breakfast is super!!! And the British music the play from time to time is also very cool! I made some new friends in the room.
I recently attended an Aperol Spritz workshop, and it was such a fun and unique experience! The atmosphere was relaxed and cheerful, perfect for a fun evening with my friends. The instructor, Jeyda, was very passionate, social and explained how to make the perfect Aperol Spritz
I have been staying here for four days and I Will never come back, the staff was extremly rude and dont take you serious at all, i feel very disrespected by them. Dont go here if you want to get treated badly!!
We stayed here and did some of the activities here - free wine and cheese! Jack was a great host! Very nice and welcoming. Would definitely recommend him!
The hostel is amazing can not say anything bad about it but the area is VERY unsafe for a solo female traveler! The area is always surrounded by men just standing around be especially aware of your surroundings at night!
It was ok for my first Paris solo stay I didn’t have much to complain about just the toilet clogged up and I had to let someone know so they can come clean it up but the rest was good
The reception is really nice and the lady is really approachable. Also the atmosphere is good as well.Next time I will still choose this as my stay in Paris
The first two days was okay that I was there. I extended a day and they moved me to a different room with a portable air conditioner that was broken and sucking in hot air as well as spitting it back out into the room which made the room unbearable. This was an easy fix for the hostel as I went to speak to them downstairs. They had this worker Dantouma working and he is the absolute most unprofessional employee I have ever met. He was no help and when he did I was already heading out to catch a train and had to sit in the lobby all night because the room was unbearable. I asked for his supervisors email which he gave and when I emailed he responded with a 3 page essay essentially talking down to me calling me a liar, uneducated, uncultured American who doesn’t know how to “behave”. The hostel manager answered later on and to which none of them helped. I asked for a refund just for that last night due to the fact I didn’t even get a chance to stay in the room and they refused so I just disputed the charge on my end. Horrible experience and it was all due to that interaction with that worker who honestly should go get another job because customer service is not one of his skills.
Great location..
Good for an overnight stay
it’s a great hostel for socialising and meeting new people, the facilities are great and clean and staff super friendly! i would recommend if coming to paris as it’s close to most attractions and easy to navigate around the city from

Hi. I would like to share my experience at St. Christopher's Inn Paris Gare du Nord I would sincerely recommend with other travellers. I stayed there for two weeks in February. It was unforgettable and overall positive experience, a place where I would like to go again. First of all, I like the incredibly dynamic area around: it's located literally next door to the legendary Gare du Nord, 5 min walk to the Eurostar hub, always in full swing. Urban energy and international exchange, spirit of travel, hopes and dreams are are all around here. The international hostel impressed me with its advanced infrastructure and amazing design, as well as its quality of customer service and ouverture d'esprit. Rooms are large, beds are clean and comfortable, then there is an incredible maze of corridors in this multi-storeyed 20th century building... I wish I could go on my next trip soon to grasp more of the urban rhythm and spirit !
It was great! Love the drinks!……………………………………………. Best part of the experience was seeing the best of paris in the bar…..
I met so many handsome attractive men during my stay at St. Christopher’s. It was great to share drinks with them at the bar.
Just 5 mins away from Gare du Nord train station. Very convenient as I have a 9.07 train back to London. Staff is great, breakfast is good value for money. They are kind to open the breakfast area for me at 7am although generally it starts at 8am. No air con on the room so the window had to be opened and we can hear people arguing and talking outside. Overall, I am happy as food can be found at every corner. It’s a safe. Walkable go bus 32 to take you to Eiffel Tower at Lena stop. Bathrooms are clean although a little inconvenient as has to walk out of the room (expected).
Music and customers from the bar downstairs can be heard until at least 1 am. Mid-summer could use some fans in the rooms at least. Otherwise, it's a convenient location just a 6 minute walk from either the north or east train stations and from the Paris Metro. Nightly social gatherings are nice.
It was extremely hot, and there was no air conditioning or any cooling device in our room. I couldn’t sleep at all until morning because of the heat.
Better than some hostels but far from ideal. Plus side: 1) Location is super convenient (5 minute walk) to both north (Gare du Nord) and east (Gare du Est) train stations. 2) Curtains on bunk beds offer some privacy. 3) Daily evening social events include some nice freebies (such as wine and cheese, etc.). Negative side: 1) Downstairs bar is a little too loud for sleeping before at least 1 am. 2) In the hot summertime, it's too warm at night for sleeping well. If they offered ceiling fans, that might at least help somewhat, though closed bunk curtains would limit the effectiveness of that. 3) Elevators have not always been dependable and don't allow downward use on the lower floors (not good for people with certain disabilities).
This hostel is always a blessing, they are so helpful and accommodating! Always organising event for people to meet and enjoy travelling experiences, today I attended the cheese and wine getting sesh and Jade was just a star!! Amazing!!! Thank you xx Richie
Was not originally listed as a hostel. Also in a sketchy neighborhood
the hostel is very nice and very close to gare du nord it is very convenient for the eurostar and very lively area lots of restaurants nearby
Alex ran a great cocktail class. Was super fun and engaging for all. Great company meeting some new people too! Great idea for all!
I am here being firm in that there is little reason to charge travellers eight euros for storing their bag in a luggage room for a few hours. This came as a surprise to many travellers on the day I was checking out, where they too found it unusual and baffling how costly that would be. Two euros per hour, or eight for the day, is just insanely annoying. Add to that stuffy rooms, a washroom that feels sub-par, and showers not seriously thought about (where are the hooks? Why do I have to continuously push a button with one hand to have any water flowing? Why isn’t it just standard now to have a separating door between the shower itself and a prep/drying/clothes-storing ante-space?), and I’m left not really wanting to come back here. Honestly, just shale up and provide better.
The is a cool place to stay there is super cool social life that you can experience while around at Christopher’s inn you’ll will definitely love your stay in Paris
The hostel was good, the staff were nice and friendly. The problem was that they had put in their ad that they had a fan. There was no fan and we had to open the windows. It was extremely HOT and uncomfortable
Conditions to access the room is not good.
I just checked into this hostel. I am not sure if I want to recommend them. the bathrooms are down the hall. Showers of course are down the hall. It does have a bar and happy hour however, the smoking is so thick you can cut it with a knife. You can hardly walk through it. Do I recommend them hell no. I went into the restaurant to eat however, there was no tables a beer pong was set up. I went upstairs. There’s no service up there in that little area so I ended up coming outside, which was absolutely good i found a good place to eat. They also charge for a key deposit. Now whether we get that back or not is yet to be seen..
I’ve stayed at several st. Christopher’s inn in a couple of countries. All of them are not quiet during the night mainly due to the bar on the ground floor. It is therefore hard to observe the quiet hour rule, which starts at 22pm. My roommates this time are all night animals. They wake up at 22pm and go out at midnight. When they come back at 3am, they behave like during the day, banging lockers and doors.
Booked direct via their website which was great because it meant we got a free drink voucher. Visited with my mother and my sister and we booked a four bed private dorm with ensuite. We arrived by train and it was only a 1 minute walk from the station which was great. There is a sports bar at the entrance which has doorman and we said we were looking for the hostel to check in and they directed us to the correct doorway which led to a small lounge and the main hostel reception area. There was about a five minute queue to check in, which was fine (if you don’t like queueing then Paris ain’t for you). We booked about one month before and it worked out at about £47 per bed, I’m sure you’ll struggle to find anywhere cheaper in Paris at short notice. The room was very clean and fairly spacious. We had toilet roll included plus a hairdryer hand towels. We were on the sixth floor which is the top and we didn’t hear any noise from the bar overnight just the occasional person walking past in the corridor each bed had a shelf which had two European charging ports Plus a light. The water pressure in the shower was good. Temperature was easy to control. Toilet was next to the shower . There was a convenient store next door which was great for buying big bottles of water and snacks. We use a free drink voucher to buy cappuccinos in the morning at the bar which was very pleasant. The only downside was that there’s no Aircon, although I can’t really call it a downside because we knew there wouldn’t be Aircon when we booked it and we know that Europe generally doesn’t have Aircon. In fact I have booked hostels in Australia in 45°C heat which didn’t have Aircon. It’s just part of the budget experience. so overall I give a 4 to 5 stars because it’s exactly as advertised. Obviously, I can’t comment on the dorm rooms which will probably be a completely different experience as they are on lower floors and packed with more people but I imagine they’re fun if you’re young and just need a cheap place to stay.
I love it here. Such a great vibe. Such great facilities. The bar here is huge and super fun. Events at 8pm every night. Very sweet staff.
Really friendly & helpful staff, and the daily social events are really fun! Would definitely recommend staying here :)
I booked a private room. The room had no air conditioning and no towels. The toilet constantly dripped. When I enquired about air conditioning I was told that in France they don’t have it and to open the window. At over $300 AUD per night you would expect much better. I would not recommend.
Prior to us arriving, Paris had a heavy rain storm, When we checked into the room at 1 am half the floor had water, the ceiling window was broken and left open. The front deck gave us towels and we cleaned up the water. The room was otherwise nice, newer and very clean
Fairly good type of hostel with walking distance proximity to Gare du Nord and can cater your basic needs like shower x2 toilet x2 and double deck bed but make sure you bring your own mini fan coz it gets really boiling hot when you sleep at night otherwise quite comfortable stay! And a LOCK AND KEY to secure your valuables underneath your bed!
Great place in heart of Paris with a great price. Just a few minor issues as far as storing luggage, I was on a 2 week cruise prior to Paris and I’m 70 years old, no elevator to storage lockers as far as I could determine. One hard pillow, definitely could have had another or a softer one. Both showers were leaking at nozzle. Belushis had loud music until 2-4 am on Saturday. Breakfast buffet for $7 Euros was outstanding! Very close to train station and metro. They should have an area other than Belushis for guests to hang, watch tv go on computer etc. All in all a great value and
Very cool hostel, it is much quieter than generator hostel, so I could even sleep at night (beds have curtains). The food is also very good, same as generator hostel, but cheaper here. The reason for all that maybe is that people / guests are older, no school classes or not only school classes. One evening there was some Sangria thing, nice people from Netherlands we meet.
My son stayed there and he loved it because of all the people he met
Awesome restaurant-bar very entertaining and you meet amazing people from all over the world, and a great staff!
My room was with all girls who were all nice and super understanding of the hostel rules. Made my stay feel safe and relaxed.
Fast check in! Laundry facilities in place!
Staff were super accommodating and did everything they could to make the stay as easy as possible. From providing an early check in to helping me when my phone was stolen on the streets of Paris. Can't recommend the staff here enough. The hostel itself is clean and what you'd expect. Belushi's down stairs was great for sport and food and drink. Stay here for sure, great location incredible staff
First time staying in a Hostel and i found this enjoyable.. I will definitely be doing it again. Staff were friendly and helpful. Clean spaces with enough privacy in the bed spaces. Easy to travel with the metro and close to buses.
All about I'm not European or US, her speak was very rude , and not helpful I paid 130£ pounds to get there and didn't let me in to my room I told her to contact trip advisor to cancel, she said we ready took the money,They Wouldn't Help You by racist speak , arrogant looking at me up of her glasses She called one idiot security to do his violence against of me and Kicked me out, swearing in French that i don't speak 🤬 🤬 🤬 and pushing me like I'm bigging them my refund I tried to call police and I record them by video they didn't let me even call the police or report booking at reception and Kicked me out in cold weather and I was silent tell outside the hotel pls Don't choose this hotel never ever
I like everything about this property except the bed was so hard and uncomfortable
Budget dorms with a nice view of Paris. Staff is friendly. Fully equipped otherwise, with laundry and other common facilities.
The location in ideal, gare du nord is just few feet away and it makes moving around pretty easy!
The property is very clean and well maintained. The staff very nice and helpful. Check in and check out very fast! Security guards are on site 24/7 and they do good job to make it safe and secure! The Belushi’s bar is great and provides good entertainment on weekends!
Having read the reviews after I booked I can’t say I wasn’t anxious but yet again a small number of bad reviews are giving an excellent functioning establishment a bad impression. Whilst I wasn’t in a shared dorm and stayed on a private basis from what I saw of the hotel/hostel I’d reccomend this place to anyone travelling alone or with friends. It’s not a “take the family” sort of place in my opinion but who knows.. I found the check in swift, friendly and a pleasant surprise. Safia is a credit to the hostel and even greeted me after I’d checked in. Despite not booking directly we were given a welcome drink and invited to the sangria evening (free of charge) needless to say we had booked other things but I thought it was nice touch and on the wall is a list of all events starting at 8 each evening. The bar and “chill zone” area were welcoming, the bar was very busy and whilst I could hear noise on the 2nd floor, I fell asleep fine. The room was clean, tidy, the mattresses were perfectly reasonable and there was even tea coffee (nescaffe) and even 2 little biscoff biscuits. Small things that make a difference. So the toilet shower room was small but I’ve read comments that above 80kg and u can’t fit. Well I am 106kg and had enough room for the facilities needed. The shower does not fluctuate from hot to cold, it is just extremely sensitive and barely needs moving to adjust the temp. Yes when it turned all the way one it will be to the extreme end of the temperature but with minuscule movements u can get the perfect heat that you desire feeling fresh as anything. Location is excellent and close to amenities. Supermarket round the corner. Some people might not like security on the front but personally I liked it and another thing that is hit and miss at hostels and hotels that this hostel has is that you need to scan a pass to get through all doors AND the lift. A basic security function that personally hotels/hostels should be obligated to do so full marks for that. Excellent short but sweet stay. I would recommend and I would return!
The area is very noise.
Where do I start I had my revelut card stolen from the safe under the bed in the room and someone then proceeded to spend all my money while I was sleeping as my revelut card was in the front zipped pocket of my bag I hadn’t noticed it was gone… so yeah it’s not a safe hostel whatsoever and the area is terrible whilst I was staying here an American man was punched in the face coming out of the metro outside the hostel for no reason and he needed stitches… the showers were either freezing cold or boiling hot and they were impossible to use. Overall pay the little bit extra for a better hostel and AVOID THIS ONE!!
A horrible experience at a backpacker hotel located at the entrance of a brewery in a Paris suburb. The only good thing about the day we spent there was the brewery. Upon arrival, I realized that although I had booked a private room, not all rooms were private, and they shared a bathroom. The hotel is poorly maintained, with a rundown appearance, sheets with holes, unbearable heat in a tiny room, and a bathroom that is smaller than those on cruise ships. The water temperature in the shower was unstable. There is something suspicious about the high rating this hotel has received because it can’t even deserve two stars. Do not waste your money on this awful place. I have no complaints about the reception staff’s service, but all the advertising about this place is false
It was hair in the beds and showers. I saw many bloody spots in the beds. The temperature in one shower was so hot I couldn’t shower without burning myself. The floor and the sofas were broken outside our bedroom. People were very loud in the middle of the night and I got disturbed many times because of that. I am very disappointed because I thought it would be like the photos.
Excellent value for one person who wants a room and bathroom to themselves, the only issue I had was the fact they don't allow you to exchange notes for loose change since I needed it to store my luggage in a locker. On the whole, I'd happily come back here to stay if I planned to visit Paris again and I do recommend this place to other people.
The Location was good but Person in check in very angry and have Problem with English speaking and not good for advise me where is the hot water or how rich my room
First time in a hostel. I was with my family and it was an ideal base for our City Break
Very good Hostel. Excellent location for Transport links. Friendly and helpful staff. Comfortable bed and clean bedrooms. Free Wi-Fi. Good cheap breakfast - Buffet. Bar attached to Hostel - reasonable prices. Shops nearby. ‘Monmartre’ area nearby- walking distance. I was here on a Monday and left Thursday morning. The Hostel was ‘Quiet’ at night. Maybe noisier at the weekend?. I don’t know. Only downside was the ‘Shower’ as it was ‘Lukewarm’ . The Hostel was very clean and I regularly saw cleaners doing their job. Don’t believe the negative reviews! Everything I have said is the ‘TRUTH’. Well worth the stay!
Communicated to front desk about having no hot water, issue was not resolved. Stayed for 6 nights of no hot water for showering. Overall, stay here for only a night or two. Really cheap price for short stays and the area is near the sketchy part of Paris.
The only thing I have to complain about it the fact I wasn’t given any sheets to sleep in. That’s all I lived staying here
The dorm was noisy, I stayed in 208 and thought that ther must be noisy elephants above my room.
We enjoyed our stay. The beds are ok. The staff was very helpful. It was clean
Great place to stay with amazing bar. Staff are very welcoming and they speak in English also. I'd consider staying again in case I visit Paris again.
Booked a private four person room and it was very clean! The bathroom and beds were neat. The only con was that the shower was not very enjoyable for tall people and the water would get extremely hot randomly.
Easy way to reach centre,,comfy bed
Great location and staff and clean
I had a great time in Paris, while staying at St Cristopher Inn. The Inn is not Intercontinental, not even a Holiday Inn, but I felt like I was back student living in the residence. Staff are helpful and with great customer service abilities. Room was just perfect to put your head down after a day of continuous walking around the city. Clean bed sheets and towels and hallways were clean and secured vs. the jungle outside at the door (considering this inn shares the same patio with the restaurant that's always busy at night). The market around the corner (maybe I wasn't too lucky) always had a homeless smell inside. I stopped in the mornings to pick up my water for the day. Other than that the hotel/inn has a great location between Gare de N and Gare de E, very easy to get anywhere around the city. Thank you St Christopher.
立地がとてもいい! でも、電車の音がうるさくなく、寝ることができる。 下にバーがあるのもいいところ!
a very disappointing experience at St Christopher’s Inn, and I feel it is important to share it with others. During my stay, I was treated rudely and disrespectfully by a security guard, who showed no professionalism. Despite raising this issue with the hotel management, I have received no response or follow-up regarding my complaint. The lack of reaction from the management demonstrates that guest comfort and satisfaction are not a priority for this establishment. In fact, the silence suggests that they condone the unprofessional behavior of their staff. This is unacceptable for any hotel, let alone one that promotes itself as guest-focused. Moreover, when I attempted to meet with the manager to discuss my complaint, I was given incorrect information about their availability, which further highlighted the poor organization and lack of accountability within the team. This experience has left me completely dissatisfied, and I will never return to this hotel. If you value respectful service and guest care, I would strongly recommend avoiding St Christopher’s Inn. The breakfast with coffee machine out of service .
Very convenient for transportation as it was close to Gare du Nord. Property was neat and clean.
I stay end nov 2024 I like a lot this hostal lot of nice people , but in the 1st floor the bathroom has leaks and all floor are wet the bed has some noise when I move , belushis restaurant very good
I went to workin Paris but there is no place in the common area for anyone to work with their laptop. The room is too small for 4 people. Two people standing up did not fit, there was no chair in the room either. It was not particularly clean. The reception was always busy and at peak times could only serve one person. Cards sometimes don't work. I forgot my locker and they didn't have ( take with you lockers!! ). The location is close to the metro. I do not recommend it.
I will sure visit again
Receptionist was a bit snappy, the pod I was in could use a thorough wipe, bedsheets had a slight smell to them, usb ports didnt work. Asked if I could have an extra blanket and the team member I spoke to said they dont do that here before telling me they need to speak to the next person and shooing me away from their desk
