Breakfast choice was good. Room with view was large with sofa and table and chairs.

It is an older hotel and lots of steps and no lift is an issue. However it has much more character than the Premier Inn next door

The location was excellent for our needs. All the staff were friendly.

The noise every morning at 6a.m. from the ceiling fan in the bar below. Although the owner took on board our complaint and dealt with it to our satisfaction, apologising profusely

Steps up to reception from car park .we had to walk through the bar to get to our rooms ,staff not over friendly no fridge in the room which was in need of a refurbishment and bathroom was tired and worn looking . Breakfast was not great .no fruit or yogurts and cheap fruit juice This hotel was definitely not worth what we paid for our stay

It was located near to the sea front and harbour side which was what we wanted All the staff were extremely accommodating, friendly and helpful The room was spacious with nice sea views

We don’t have a car so we found the steep walk up from the sea to the hotel very difficult. We didn’t know it was on a hill - not everyone has a car. Our room was right above the bar and the outside terrace so was very noisy every evening with the loud music thumping. In the bar it was so loud at times that people were literally shouting at each other to be heard.

Our room23a was directly under the restaurant at 0630 we were woken by the sound of tables being dragged across the floor . And in the afternoon and evening the sound of the bass on the music were thumping .finally the bar closed at 8.30pm on the sunday

The room was normal size double bed and one single bed. nice view of the sea. , I was in the basement their was a door that led outside which was very handy.you didn’t have to go upstairs every time you needed to exit the building. The breakfast was standard full English nice portion. The location was great its opposite the sea, and not far from the town, places to eat and drink supermarkets are about 25 minutes walk depending on how quickly you walk I was not in a rush.

No clothes shops around. Or I did not see any.

Location was excellent. Seaview from some of the rooms (including the one I stayed in), the conservatory and outside terrace also. Short walk to the beach and not too far to walk to the marina area.

The bar "Applebys" is essentially a pub and therefore always very busy and noisey. There was a function every day of the 3 days of my stay including an 8 hour ibiza dj stint on the terrace.

Ideal location for the theatre. Great views. Friendly staff. Good breakfast. What's not to like?

Room was a good size.

On approaching the hotel we were bombarded with loud music (a special Ibiza event) . We were not advised in advance. We were walking the south west coast path and chosen this day to only do a half day walk to relax and recuperate in the hotel. We could not even relax in our room due to the loud music, which even after the event ended on the terrace , music continued inside. We felt forced to leave the hotel room and find somewhere quieter to relax.

Great place to stay with great sized rooms, comfortable beds and friendly staff. Next door to a bar but we didn’t hear a peep. Breakfast options a plenty and always fresh and tasty - recommended

We had an apartment which we didn’t expect, it was lovely with 3 big rooms

The pillows were rock hard we both woke up with stiff necks, breakfast was ok but you had to wait around for things to be filled up. My husband asked for an extra egg and they wanted to charge him £1 for it, he gave up his revolting slimy mushrooms for it, the next morning he asked for an extra egg and had to forgo 2 items! I told him to buy an egg and give it to them to which he replied they would most probably charge him £1 to cook it! We have been spoilt by trips abroad where nothing was too much trouble, here everything felt like it was to much trouble

Didn't like the fact we asked for bath and even phoned direct and was told our room had a bath and would mark it as do not change and was not also didn't like a rave disco under my window blasting at 5pm in the afternoon

The staff were exceptional , very friendly lovely people and always there to help and very informative , location was just right , the room was a good size and breakfast was nice but with limited choice .

Even though the room was good with an excellent view of the sea , the cleanliness was poor , and the maintenance was poor , i will add some pictures of this . The bed was very hard , no room phone available ,could do with an update and refurbishment to make it an outstanding place to stay .

Loved the hotel it was just the hill up to it being asthmatic it was a hard walk especially in the heat but can't fault the hotel otherwise

As we both have mobility problems there were too many stairs. A difficult flight from the car park to reception. Fortunately a very kind man carried our cases up for us. If we had gone to the front of the hotel we would have had to walk up a fairly steep incline.

Excellent location if you’re heading to The Princess Theatre. A couple of minutes walk away.

My room, No 11, was very spacious, with a fabulous sea view, plenty of storage and a little table & chairs. A good size shower, heated towel rail and a toiletries cabinet with additional lights around the edges. There was a good selection on the breakfast menu + help yourself to cereal, toast, fresh coffee and a variety of teas.

I was only booked in for one night and was informed on arrival that the restaurant was closed that evening, however I wasn't informed that the bar would also close at 9:30, had I known, I could have stayed in town a little while longer. However, after voicing my disappointment, we were allowed to purchase one drink, which had to be consumed on the terrace or in my room. I feel that the management really should ensure there is more than the one member of staff on duty !!

On checking in, we were informed that the chef was on holiday and they would not be selling any food in the evening. The bar also shuts up early. One night, 10 pm, another: night 10:30pm. The beds were extremely uncomfortable. They were short in length, and mattress was.soft and sagged in the middle. The pillows were so thin they were hardly worth bothering with. Everything about the room and bathroom was tired. The hotel could make so much more of its facilities and location.

There is a bar attached to the hotel that is open to the public. This didn’t bother us as was a nice bar, however they had an Ibiza rave day on the Saturday and the place was very busy with loud music. If they are holding one of these events on your stay I do think you should be informed when booking. Due to the event the car park was full, even though booking.com stated one parking spot included, when we asked we were told this was a mistake and shouldn’t have been on the booking. Was told to park in the car park next door, this was also full and took a while to get a space. This cost £11 for 24 hours, so be warned if bring a car. If car park is full you have to pay to park next door.

Lovely little spot with nice views and easy access to everywhere.

Had to wait a little while for breakfast refills but this was due to a lot of guests turning up the same time. Not a problem though.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. My room was a good size, clean and comfortable with a nice view of the bay. The ensuite shower room was small but the shower worked well. There was a good choice at breakfast, the hot option was cooked to order and the full English was very nice. The location is very close to the seafront and a short walk to the theatre.

The bedroom and ensuite, although clean, needed updating. No sound proofing meant I could hear the people in the room above walking around. It was very loud especially in the middle of the night and early morning. There are quite a few steps to go up to get into the hotel.

The room was exceptional - bigger than I expected, perfectly clean and so good I booked a second night and will be looking to stay there again as soon as I can. When I asked if I could book another night it was fully accommodated and the price matched to the night I pre-booked. Exceptional. The view and also the breakfast was simply amazing too!

Just a bit tired

The view from our room and breakfast were excellent, and location in general. We got the train to Torquay so it was brilliant in that sense. We had breakfast as well and that was really tasty (we stayed in the Balmoral Suite).

Maybe some of the furnishings were a bit outdated but it was not the end of the world when you consider the whole stay.

The rooms are maybe a little dated but clean and they had all you need for a stay, shower, Tv and kettle and sea view.

The fact that it was a glorified pub and there were functions on both Friday and Saturday night which were very noisy till midnight then volume was reduces a little when we were in our room. On the Saturday evening we wanted to eat and were told the dining area was closed. We had to insist on sitting at a table (the function had not even started) we were done and left before any function guests had arrived. This needs down grading from a hotel to an inn as its very misleading. Wouldn't book again

The room was above expectations, clean with plenty of storage and a comfortable bed which could do with being bigger. The breakfast was really very good size with a good selection served by friendly staff. The location of the hotel was perfect literally opposite all the restaurants and the beach.

The description of the hotel needs to be amended on booking.com as the pool was only available to guests for 2 hours in the morning,(when breakfast was served and the 2 hours in the evening when guests are out eating their evening meals) and at a cost of £5 per session!! I have never had to pay to use a hotel pool in all the years I have holidayed in the UK or abroad!!! The main function of the pool is allocated to local children's swimming lessons which due to parents parking in the very limited hotel car park creates another cost to guests who may have used their vehicle to see more of Torquay only to find upon their return to the hotel that there are no parking spaces available and as a consequence they have to pay to park in the long stay car park next to the hotel!!

The ground floor room overlooked the bind at the back of the hotel. There was an alley outside the windows which couldn't be opened as the tilt function was broken on one if them and when open could easily be accessed by a person from the outside. No priva y netting or blinds so not private when curtains are open.

Room was in a good location ground floor as disabled, there was a sardine sandwich and cordial left in the drawers, top of bed 1 inch full of dust. The room was boiling hot facing the sun all day with glass windows, couldnt sleep at all suffocating.

Our 2nd visit & again the staff were excellent. Good views & great location even though there's a slight hill to walk up.

Due to no fan in the room we didn't sleep well at all..My wife slept on the floor a few nights to try & cool down. It's a lovely hotel but these rooms need a fan especially in high temperatures. ..We felt it was cooler outside at times.

In unserem Zimmer konnte man das Fenster nicht komplett aufmachen, sondern nur kippen. Daher wurde es auch nachts nicht richtig kühler.

One of the bedroom windows wouldn’t shut so couldn’t lesson noise of traffic which was ok especially this time of year but might be chilly in the winter. My bedroom was on the ground floor overlooking the car park on one side and bins with walkway on the side so privacy could be an issue, maybe net curtains would help rather than having to close the main curtains to get undressed etc! Breakfast was ok but a little limited compared to other hotels I’ve stayed at. Really didn’t like large plastic jugs for milk, water and juice but I guess is practical
