Oceania Hotel

Spacious room with enough space for prayer, a clearly marked Qibla direction, clean flooring with no damp smell, and beautiful ambient lighting. The overall atmosphere was very relaxing and matched Kota Kinabalu's coastal charm.

Een mooie ruime kamer met een goed bed. Voor één overnachting wel OK.

Locatie is buiten het centrum en net iets te ver om naar het centrum te lopen. Uitzicht op een parkeergarage. Onderhoud kan beter. Niet elke dag wordt de kamer schoongemaakt en het bed opgemaakt.

Location is strategic with is centre of the city. Easy to find food in restaurant around the hotel. Dobi next to Sutera Bay Hotel building. The room was clean as displayed in advertisement

Car parking was limited. The air conditioner need to repair, even the temperature is 17 degrees but the room still not cool. Breakfast is not provided.

Velká pohodlná postel, prostorný pokoj a spousta místa. Celkově se člověk cítí příjemně a má vše, co potřebuje.

Uvítala bych lépe uklizenou koupelnu. Snídaně byly ve vedlejším domě v kavárně, to jsme při rezervaci úplně nepochopili a mnoho jsme si nepochutnali, ač tam byla obsluha milá a ochotná.

They offered breakfast off the premises and they may as well not have bothered. It was a very poor offering.

Hay obras de renovación por lo que la zona de recepción fue reducida a un espacio muy pequeño, pero parece que ya están terminando. La habitación 305 realmente necesita renovación o, al menos, limpieza y pintura, en especial la ducha. Me imagino que por los trabajos, el hotel no ofrece el desayuno en sus instalaciones y tiene un acuerdo con una cafetería cercana siendo esto un problema porque únicamente ofrecen dos opciones de desayuno y un café terrible. Si quieres algo diferente de lo ofertado, debes pagar, incluso si pides un café de mejor calidad. Habiendo pre-pagado extra por el desayuno, igual no pudimos usar los vouchers recibidos.

Room sangat okay, worth it

Breakfast not buffet ya, bila tanya staff dia cakap memang bukan buffet, seems like never available. Breakfast di restoren depan hotel dan pilihan menu dia cuma 2menu setiap hari, dah disediakan. Our stay tu pilihannya cuma bubur nasi (very salty) / bihun sup. Not worth it untuk add on breakfast, same price better order grabfood atau jalan depan sikit makan kat luar.

I have stayed in this hotel very recently for 6 nights while in KK. While my experiences at this hotel was mainly positive, there were a few issues that I am going to address here. Positives: 1. Nice staff especially Victor and Orlando, who were very helpful 2. Clean room with amenities (safe, tea/coffee/kettle, comfortable bed, nice bathroom/shower, good wardrobe. fridge to store bottled water that the hotel supply. 3. Surau (prayer room) on the 4th floor, which was convenient. 4. Cleaners doing a great job making the room nice and tidy. 5. Decent WiFi connection (although occasionally cuts out). Negative: Communication - this is their big downfall that cost them the extra star that I would have gave them. Communication has been the real issue with this hotel unfortunately but before I do highlight the issues, they did contact me via WhatsApp and were very helpful with enquiries or so I thought. They arranged airport transfer to hotel via taxi with the driver putting my name waiting for me at the Arrivals Hall. They mentioned that I need to pay MYR 25 per person at their restaurant for breakfast but otherwise go for the cheaper option at the Cafe called Tapau Bah and mentioned that Tapau Bah take credit cards. However, as I got to the Arrivals Halls, there was no one there to pick me up after waiting for 20-odd minutes so I ended up catching my own taxi but at a cheaper price than what the hotel quoted. As I got to the hotel around 10.30pm after a very long journey from the UK, I have been told that I had to pay MYR 100 deposit in cash upfront, which I didn't have enough Ringgits as the banks and money exchange were closed at that time so it caused me quite a bit of inconvenience but I wasn't informed at all about this and they should have told me this in advance so that I would have had the deposit ready - most hotels take the deposit through credit cards but not with Oceania I'm afraid - however, I did find an alternative by giving a £20 note as a cash deposit, which was worth MYR 114 so we got that issue resolved. Next morning, I asked about the breakfast and where the hotel restaurant is but I was informed that there is no restaurant at the hotel to have breakfast even though I was informed on WhatsApp that it was MYR 25 at their restaurant. Now there is a restaurant next door to the reception but I'm not sure if it belongs to the hotel or not as no staff member mentioned it. So they said I have breakfast at Tapau Bah Cafe across the road as it is cheaper and I was informed that they take credit cards - however, I've found out that they only take cash which wasn't a problem initially - until became a problem so whenever I had 50 to 20 MYR cash and tried to buy something with that at Tapau Bah, they couldn't change it and this has happened twice to me which then begs the question on why the cafe did not have a card set up in the first place - however, this was recommended by the hotel itself and quite frankly it was a poor recommendation by them. However, I did find a gem of a place within a minute walking distance from Tapau Bah called Secret Recipe - the only down side is that Secret Recipe opens at 10.00am but at least Tapau Bah opens up before 7.00am. However, Secret Recipe does have a lot more variety and much friendlier staff too so I think the hotel needs to liaise with them instead, unless Tapau Bah can get the card situation sorted out. So all in all, this hotel is very good but they need to fix the issues with communications which could have nearly ruined my stay at KK but thankfully it turned out fine.

The building is a bit dated and location feels 'isolated'. There weren't many places for breakfast options probably because it was early on a Sunday morning.
