Reviewed Sep 14, 2026The biggest positive about Hotel Horta is the staff. Everyone we dealt with was friendly and genuinely seemed to be trying their best. Unfortunately, the hotel itself was a huge disappointment and, in our experience, nowhere near the standard we would expect from a 4-star hotel. The hotel has virtually no atmosphere. The bar was closed most of the time, there was no bar service or music around the pool, and there aren't even toilets conveniently located near the pool area. The pool itself is quite small and is down several flights of stairs away from the main hotel area. We were allowed to take our own drinks from the hotel bar down to the pool, but were then told to bring the trays back ourselves. So essentially, we were carrying drinks and trays up and down several flights of stairs and providing our own poolside service in a supposed 4-star hotel. It honestly felt bizarre. Our first room smelled of mould, the air-conditioning wasn't working properly, the water pressure was very weak and the hot water took several minutes to come through. The bed was EXTREMELY hard — genuinely like sleeping on a wooden shelf — and the pillows were absolutely horrible. After we complained, the staff moved us to another room, which was slightly better, and we appreciated them trying to help. However, the overall standard was still nowhere close to what we expected. In the second room, the shower drain was so slow that the shower tray was filling with water. We removed the drain cover so the water could actually drain away. The following day, rather than investigating why it had been removed, it was screwed back into place. That evening at around 11pm, we ended up with a flooded bathroom. It was the final straw in what had already been a very disappointing stay. We really wanted to enjoy this hotel, and again, the staff themselves were lovely.

Reviewed Sep 11, 2026Comfortable rooms, all looking out over the pool with a lovely view across to Mount Pico. The pool was lovely and the whole hotel, although quite old, was clean and rooms were fairly spacious. The Reception staff were all fabulous. Breakfast was OK but nothing special.
It would have been nice to have had a kettle in the room and tea/coffee available. There was a fridge in the room but it went off during the day when the power to the room was off, which kind of defeated the object of putting anything in it!

Close to the pool the toilets and cabin are old and dirty. The breakfast is good but coffee machine are slow (no Americano so you need to get 3 or 4 double espressos instead!) and fruit juices are poor quality

Reviewed Sep 8, 2026Die Zimmer waren leider dreckig und wurden nicht ordentlich gereinigt. Das Frühstück ist nicht abwechslungsreich, Gemüse bspw. gibt es gar nicht. Die Bettwäsche war dreckig. Safe konnte nicht abgeschlossen werden, weil er kaputt war. Zimmerwechsel war nicht möglich. Teilweise gab es auch Schimmelflecken an der Decke und den Wänden.

Непрацюючий кондиціонер - в кімнаті було дуже душно. Непрацюючий холодильник (або працює дуже слабо і тільки тоді коли ви знаходитесь у номері . Незручний фен у ванній кімнаті,поганий злив у раковині .Чищення басейну до 13:00 дня.

In die Jahre gekommen, schmuddelig, extrem viele Kakerlaken, die über das Bett gelaufen sind. Matratzen katastrophal. Als wir das Personal darauf angesprochen haben, sagten sie, dass ihnen das Kakerlaken Problem bekannt sei. Sie könnten uns ein Zimmer im 5. Stock anbieten. Da sei es besser. Als wir nach einer Nacht wieder abreisen wollten, da es unzumutbar war, wollten sie uns alle 5 Tage abrechnen. Erst nach langen Diskussionen wurden die weiteren 4 Tage erlassen. Das Frühstück war mäßig. Kaffee nur mit gezuckertem Milchpulver. Schlechtestes Hotel auf unserer gesamten Reise. Miserables Preis-Leistungsverhältnis.

Reviewed Aug 25, 2026The staff were amazing, helpful with taxis and very friendly. The views across to Pico from our room on the top floor were spectacular. The pool area was quiet and calm.
We loved this hotel but can see that it would not be any good for people with mobility issues - it was a 10 minute walk down a hill into the town. That said reception seemed to have taxis on speed dial. There was no lunch available at the hotel but most people were out sightseeing. This hotel is not flashy, brand new but is perfectly comfortable with fantastic staff.

Reviewed Aug 25, 2026Ich hatte ein Zimmer mit tollem Ausblick über die Dächer der Stadt zum Pico. Das Frühstück war gut. Das Restaurant für den Abend habe ich nicht getestet, da lockt das Peter Cafe Sport mehr. Aber es gibt eine gemütliche Bar. Es stehen ausreichend Parkplätze zur Verfügung. Das Hotel ist etwas einfacher als das Azoris Faial Garden, aber auch preiswerter. Es liegt etwas oberhalb des Zentrums, man muss ein paar Minuten laufen.
Der Gesamteindruck von außen ist etwas in die Jahre gekommen. Der Aufstieg von der Stadt ist durchaus schweißtreibend.

Das Hotel ist alt, die Zimmer sind zwar mit neuen Betten ausgestattet aber insgesamt abgewohnt. Das Hotel ist kein 4 Stern Hotel. Es ist ein 3 Stern , dass eine Generalsanierung notwendig hat.

Apenas a referir que o suporte de duche no WC estava um pouco móvel, mas nada que interferisse com a nossa estadia ou conforto :)

Reviewed Aug 6, 2026Wir hatten ein Zimmer im untersten Geschoss mit Gartenblick. Es gibt ein reichhaltiges Frühstücksbuffet mit regionalen Produkten, frischen Früchte, Eierspeisen, Pancakes etc.. Das Personal war sehr aufmerksam und Hilfsbereit im Restaurant sowie an der Rezeption um bspw. Taxis zu buchen oder mit einem Kinderstuhl, Babybett etc.

Das Haus ist deutlich in die Jahre gekommen und entspricht aus unserer Sicht nicht dem Standard eines 4-Sterne-Hotels. Insbesondere die Ausstattung und der allgemeine Zustand erinnern eher an ein 2-Sterne-Hotel. Wer hier übernachtet, sollte seine Erwartungen entsprechend anpassen

Reviewed Jul 4, 2026Приветливый персонал. Вкусный завтрак и за дополнительную плату ужин. Большая просторная комната, вид на океан и остров Пико. Без доплаты разрешили остаться ещё на 4 часа до рейса. Очень чисто.
Гостиница находится на горе и очень тяжело подниматься с набережной. Не хватает овощей на завтрак.

O maior problema era a água. A água não tinha força, corria pouco e quase não dava para os banhos, o que foi bastante desconfortável. O bar do hotel também não estava a funcionar, o que era de lamentar para um hotel desta qualidade.

Fridge wasn’t very cold despite lowering temp settings - wasn’t just our fridge as our friends in a separate room had the same issue. Hair dryer was also very weak.

Reviewed Jun 21, 2026Personal sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit. Bester ausblick. Reichhaltiges Frühstück mit viel auswahl. Kaffee ok. Sauber. Aber ganz besonders dieser Ausblick! Ich bin einen ganzen Tag im Zimmer geblieben, weil ich den Ausblick so toll fand.

Sarebbe bello sostituire la vasca con la doccia.

Reviewed May 25, 2026Das Frühstück war mega und die Aussicht vom Balkon auf die Insel Pico und den Vulkan. Lage natürlich auch top, man ist sehr schnell an der Hafenpromenade. Betten waren bequem.
Das Wasser hat ewig benötigt bis es warm wurde in der Dusche und es kam dann aber auch nur ein super kleiner Strahl ohne Druck raus. Die Wände sind auch wie Pappe, normal unterhalten nach 22 Uhr war schon zu laut für das Nachbarzimmer.

Pool erst im Juni geöffnet. Restaurantkarte für das Abendessen nicht zum Morgen sichtbar. Mögliche Reservierung selbst für Hotelgäste erst ab 20.30 Uhr. Vorher haben Gruppen Vorrang
