The late inflexible check-in after a long drive in torrential rain - there wasn’t even anywhere to sit before the 3:00pm check in - it was such heavy rain and we had to wait in the car. At 3:00pm when doors finally opened there was very little hospitality except more explaining of the further rules regarding our stay! The accommodation was very basic, the staff almost rude, the restaurant only just because there is nothing else. Would never stay again. For the price it was really terrible.

The washing room is too small. The washbasin is too small, have difficulty to wash and brush teeth. And the bathing cubicle is rather small.

Reviewed Apr 17, 2026One of the world's best views from your room and the dining room. Room was large and comfortable - beds were the best we had in NZ! Some snacks in the room would have been nice. Restaurant food was simple but nice. I few more options would have been better. Even had nice 0% beer (Asahi). Games for kids was a nice touch.
Breakfast was a bit simple - a couple of hot items and some pastries would be nice. It could really use a fireplace for ambience.

Reviewed Mar 26, 2026After a busy day of driving from Hokitika, we decided to split our drive to Kaikoura by staying at this hotel for one evening. Upon check-in the young woman clearly explained the restaurant hours, breakfast plan and how to use the outdoor jacuzzi which we definitely utilized for star-gazing later that evening. Since the hotel is literally in the middle of mountains and valleys and rivers, the views from the hotel/restaurant/villa were fantastic. We spent a few hours star-gazing the Milky Way which is our passion and one of the objectives for staying here for the evening. Given the hotel's location, the restaurant menu was quite limited which is a shame but understood given its remoteness. Lovely stay and would definitely recommend this hotel for those considering.....

No kitchen sink. Annoying restriction on maximum volume on TV. As a retired couple with hearing loss, we could barely hear what was being said on TV.

Reviewed Mar 6, 2026We enjoyed staying in the Bealey Hotel very much. Outstanding view over the valley, especially in the night with full moon - magic. The staff, especially the young lady from Malaysia made a great job. Breakfast is more than enough and the dinner Menü is good for a two nights staying. Very well organized, I can highly recommend staying at this place 👍👍
Only an idea - like always or often. Sitting outside - here in the Bealey Hotel on a balcony, would be perfect with better chairs. But maybe the sandflys will terrorize even more 😨

- Frühstück grds OK aber nicht aussagefähig bzgl Allergene (dadurch konnte mein Partner nichts essen) - Zimmer bräuchte mal einen Deep Clean, war aber grds OK - Mehrere Sandfliegen im Zimmer - ggf könnte man wenigstens in Gegenden mit Sandfliegen Schutzgitter installieren, so kann man nie normal lüften (aber Standard in NZ)

The apartment was spacious with everything thought of including, lovely robes & towels for hot tub use. The tub was well set up, easy to use, and a lovely feature after a big few days of walks & travels. The restaurant was great with a wide selection suitable for families with varied dietary tastes.

It was a bit stormy when we were there but the views from the balcony are incredible; the rooms are good size with comfortable beds. There is a restaurant where you check in that serves great food from a friendly staff. Would definitely stay here again.
Needed a little better description of the rooms, as not all of them have the same amenities. Maybe some black out curtains for that late sleep in. :-)

Reviewed Feb 8, 2026Das Hotel liegt quasi mitten im nichts, direkt am Arthur Pass. Die Anlage verfügt über kleine Häuser mit Parkplätzen direkt vor der Tür. Die Betten waren großartig, das Zimmer nett und komfortabel eingerichtet und das Bad modern und geräumig. Der Service war sehr gut und freundlich. Das Restaurant befindet sich im Haupthaus. Das Essen (Abendessen/Frühstück) waren sehr gut!

Reviewed Jan 27, 2026Wonderful view. Extremely tranquil. Comfy bed and room. A spa/hot tub within touching distance of incredible mountains. Very friendly and helpful staff. I left something in my room and after we'd gone and I realised, the team has offered to post it to us in Auckland. Obviously we’re paying for this but there isn’t a post office anywhere near the hotel so the managers are organising it for me which will take time and effort. Going the extra mile to provide great customer service is fabulous and very refreshing
The menu could have been a little broader but this is really a minor comment not an ‘dislike’. Our burgers were absolutely delicious so no complaints. We were also able to ‘take out’ to our room which was great.

Reviewed Jan 24, 2026Grote kamer, mooi uitzicht. Comfortabel bed! Hele fijne douche. Zeer vriendelijk personeel, ontzettend lekker gegeten in het gezellige restaurant. Gewoon jammer dat we er maar 1 nacht verbleven.
Geen tegenvaller, maar een tip: zou fijn zijn als er minimaal 1 raamscherm zou zijn zodat je een raam open kan doen zonder dat er sandflies binnen komen.
