The staff , facilities and the quiet
The accommodation is beautiful and the location is just stunning. We loved using the pool each day, and had everything we needed for a wonderful stay. The toiletries and towels etc provided were all really special quality and the decor was really lovely.
We would have expected at least one complimentary clean whilst we were there for a seven night stay. Alternatively, a broom and a mop would have been helpful so that we could clean for ourselves!
We had a fantastic stay at Castello Del Nero - Podere San Filippo. The area is absolutely beautiful, peaceful, and perfect for relaxation. Everything was top-notch: spotless cleanliness, great facilities, and high comfort. Everything was set up just right for a completely hassle-free vacation. I highly recommend this place and would love to return!
Limpieza y tranquilidad. El personal súper amable.
Everything! The room was huge, very clean, very comfortable, the view was breathtaking, the location is perfect, 30 mins from Firenze and from every tourist town! We loved it so much Thank you!
The location is excellent, the apartments are spacious, the views are stunning, and the staff is responsive and friendly.
Overall, the property felt somewhat neglected. There were many insects throughout the property, including inside the apartment and even in the bedding. The pool was also full of dead insects, making it unpleasant to use.
Really exceptional place in a lovely countryside location. Alberto was a very warm and welcoming host - 5 Star service.
Sehr schöne Lage , grosses Ferienhaus mit allem was man braucht.
L’appartamento è estremamente spazioso, curato in ogni dettaglio e impeccabilmente pulito.
The views were excellent. Had a great time.
We love it here! The apartment was spacious with comfortable beds and fully equipped kitchen. The outdoor areas had amazing views and kids loved riding the bike around the property. The receptionist was amazing. We woudl love to stay here again!
Nothing. Wish we could have stayed here longer.

very nice location, super clean appartments and lovely pool area
nothing, but a car is needed for everything :-)
The location is rural and beautiful but also convenient for day trips into Florence (35 mins) and the local Antinori nel Chianti Classico Vineyard which we planned to visit (15 mins). Clean and comfortable at a very affordable price - with easy access to restaurant and bar in the affiliated Castello del Nero Hotel (<5 mins). Lovely heated pool and a handy laundry room for freshening up your holiday clothes.
The room had a coffee machine and complimentary coffee pods - but no decaffeinated option (just my personal preference).
1) The descriptions are not clear about this property. The rooms are a 5-minute drive away from the main building 2) If you need a housekeeping service, you need to pay 60 euros for each day! And you need to throw your trash into the bin outside the property. They won't help you! 3) If you need to use the small gym( a few equipment), you need to pay 25 euros per person for each day! 4) The hotel staff were generally so rude! They are ready to argue with you 5) LEAKING ROOF! If you are going on a rainy day, be careful, you can wake up with water drops The good part 1) The breakfast was good 2) The hotel was clean 3) The view was good, but you can have the same view from the different hotels.
Incredible! Scenery was insane, very tranquil and the facilities and pool were perfect.
Mosquitos were a big problem, but apart from that it was perfect
Lovely property set in a beautiful location. Very peaceful. Aesthetically pleasing.
Really exceptional property with super knowledgeable staff, offering also an option of washing machines and dryers, along with fully equipped kitchen.
Missing clothes rack to dry the clothes, apart provided dryers.
We loved our stay here. The rooms were clean and updated. All the amenities you need are provided. The pool and the views by it are amazing and the area is quiet. The small town nearby has great food options. Would definitely stay again.
Much nicer stay then the rooms at the Como
Beautiful property and surrounds. Room was exactly as described, highly recommended
Such a beautiful place to be!
Driving to breakfast and having to coordinate 4 people to do this was the only thing that didn't quite work as well for us
Cleaness, quietness and views of wineyards and sunset
No problems
An incredible stay! We had some trouble with checking in at first and the very lovely and kind Miyani (the receptionist from Como) helped to sort everything out. It was a wonderful stay and we loved every moment. Love the grounds, the rooms, the breakfast. Thank you for your wonderful hospitality!
We stayed at Podere San Filippo in a two bedroom apartment with our 1 year old son and nanny in June 2024. The property was beautiful, the apartment was comfortable, and Alberto at the front desk went out of his way to make sure we had a wonderful experience, organizing activities and restaurant reservations and accommodating any last minute changes. He was great with our baby and very kind to us. He deserves a gold medal and a raise! Thank you Alberto! That being said, other than the lovely Alberto, I probably would not recommend Podere San Filippo to other families. While it is on the property of the COMO and is advertised as part of it, the hotel unfortunately makes guests at Podere feel like they do not belong there. Despite being told upon initial booking that all charges incurred at the hotel would be added to our apartment bill at the end of our trip, for the majority of the trip they demanded we pay for every charge after each experience at the hotel with our credit card. We were told it would cost 75 euro per person per day to use the (small) hotel gym, and that we were not allowed to use the hotel pool (the pool at Podere does not have any services). Moreover, we had a car (essential if you're staying at Podere), but whenever we went out to do activities alone, our nanny and son were essentially stranded at the apartment because the hotel does not provide any sort of shuttle service to and from the apartments, and it's a 25 minute walk uphill on a dusty road. There is no room service or food delivery, though it would be very easy for the hotel to batch a nightly food delivery to Podere if they chose to. In regards to the COMO itself, we were not that impressed with the wine tastings or the food tour of Siena that we booked through them, and we did not think that the food was that great (though we did not dine at La Torre, the Michelin starred restaurant). I did enjoy my tennis lesson, but I certainly would have regretted staying here if we had paid double the amount per night for a room at the hotel. In sum, I do not think this property is worth the price you pay for these rooms when there are so many villas you can rent nearby at a similar nightly rate without the amenities of a hotel, since the most of the amenities aren't really available to Podere clientele.
This is not our first visit to a Como resort but it’s definitely our last to Castello Del Nero. We booked through a travel agent and were told the whole hotel was booked out and we could take accommodation on their nearby property at Pondere SAN Filippo. 24 hours before checking in my husband received an email from the resort to inform us that the entire resort was booked out. What were we to do 24 hours before check in? We had hired a car and planned our trip around Tuscany with 2 nights at the resort. On arrival we were informed we were to receive a breakfast box at 8am or 8.15am ( is this school camp time not holiday time) and also told that we had NO access to any of the facilities at the main property. We were offered people (massage, yoga etc)who could come to us. Where were we expected to go for meals? The closest town was approximately 30 minutes down a windy muddy narrow road. As compensation we were offered $100 voucher to be used at the resort ( which we had no authority to attend. ) We were horrified at the treatment we received from a chain of this calibre supposedly in the “ hospitality “ industry they were far from hospitable.
The view of Castello and from the pool was breathtaking, you feel like staying in heart of Tuscany.
There is not possible to buy wine you must go to somewhere else
is was spacious, in great condition and the surroundings and estate were fantastic.
the bathrooms were a bit aged
This place was awesome! This property is on the other side of the large property of Como Castello del Nero. The rooms are actually apartment suites - the rooms were large, spotless and well-stocked, with brand new everything. There is a beautiful pool with views of the Tuscan countryside, about the same size as the pool at Castello del Nero but much, much quieter, most of the time there was no more than one other family using the pool. There is no restaurant on the property (each suite/apartment has a small kitchen) but breakfast is served daily at Castello del Nero or you can find lots of things to eat in town which is minutes away by car. We did go to the Michelin star restaurant at the main hotel which was exquisite, Very easy to drive all around Tuscany to explore the sights and to sample the many wonderful restaurants in the area. Lots of beautiful hiking and running trails all over the property. Would highly recommend!
The property is outstanding and the manager and team were very friendly and nothing was a problem. The manager directed us to all of the most outstanding towns and villages, with amazing restaurants for all budgets. We had the most relaxing time!
We had to collect the keys from a neighboring property about a half mile away, which was annoying, but not too out of the way. It was a big, beautiful fancy villa. Then we went to the one where we were staying ha, and wondered if we could switch to the first. However- the view from the pool was idyllic - the pool itself big and beautiful. The bathrooms were gorgeous, esp. the one with a window. Loved the old tubs. The mosquito screens on the apt windows were necessary. I loved the charm of Tuscany, and the olive fields nearby. There's a free parking lot for the rental car you'll need. -general areas for seating were available around the property (but cushion-less metal chairs/ benches) -provided a welcome bottle of wine for us, that was nice -the linens were monogrammed nicely and presented well -great big rectangular sun umbrellas to fit over two pool chairs -some basic kitchen items provided so you can cook I think if your expectations are in the right place, you will be happy with this property.
Sooo many mosquitos at the pool that we had to lay out with our towels covering us! The pool water was very cold in beginning of September- some sort of heating would be great. The biggest problem for me was the lighting - the photos were definitely edited brighter and the apartment itself was dark like a cave even during the brightest time of day. That was very disappointing and I felt catfished the first two days since I took extra care reviewing countless properties to try to find the perfect place for us. No sunlight inside. Eventually, I got over it and appreciated the apt for what it was - a very old restored farmhouse with rustic charm. Other problems: -no restaurant / food on site. Nothing in walking distance - you need a car rental and grocery shopping. -staff could have been a bit more friendly/ accommodating. -impossible to get a car for hire for wine tastings etc. - drivers not really available in the area. If you do get someone, expect to pay. -several families staying with kids very loudly playing in the pool all day. We escaped to Tuscany for peace and the silence of the hills...considering finding an "adults only" place next time. -we were on the top floor so no outside seating / patio for us. -most of the pool chairs were broken...but still worked and mostly comfortable -laundry area is in a basement by the pool, dark, spider webby. IMPOSSIBLE with all the mosquitos thriving down there - I couldn't even go do laundry. Other guests did utilize it, for me wasn't worth it. Bought detergent and hand washed my clothes in my bathtub. -not fully cleaned before we got there? dishes in dishwasher, etc. -they expect you to clean up and take out trash like airbnb style. Thought this was a 4-star stay? Not one cleaning service during a week stay or any hotel amenities. Ultimately - the trip we envisioned was not the trip we got- but it still stands out as a beautiful week from our travels, and glad we had the experience!
it was beautiful, picturesque such a beautiful spot.
We found a cafe with coffee and pastries on our last morning, about 5 min away, we wish we would have known about it sooner. it was so good, we wished we could have had that coffee and pastries everyday. And a queen bed would have been I don’t love the two twins together but the bed and bedding was comfortable.
Stunning setting and a large, comfortable apartment. Great location in Chianti.
Kitchen facilities could do with an upgrade, and portable AC units aren’t ideal (but better than nothing)
Very nice apartments and location, pleasant staff, spectacular view.
Lack of air conditioner
Location was lovely. Room was a very good size for a family and beds very comfortable. The complimentary wine was a nice touch.
The room needed a clean. It fell below our expectations for cleanliness. The plugs were full of hair and gunk, and under the beds and seat cushions needed a good vacuum. It was great to be able to use a washing machine but it too was dirty and mouldy. The pool shower needed cleaning. The pool was nice but the loungers needed renewing.
Breakfast was not included. The Booking.com listing was incorrect which was a surprise that cost us extra money. We weren't too happy about this.
Notification of pool hours whenever we wanted. Washer and dryer instructions in English.
the view is absolutely stunning, very quiet and peaceful. big apartment, comfortable overall, nice old design inside.
needs more deep cleaning, and cleaning while guests are in. stayed for 3 days, not been cleaned, and no cleaning supplies in the apartment.
beautiful surroundings and very nice and helpful staff
the kitchen could be more equipped.
Location Beautiful views Very comfy beds Lovely local restaurants
No air con in one of the bedrooms (mobile units) Only 4 umbrellas around the pool for 12 apartments! Aparently management couldnt get hold of any:( Sunbeds around the pool need replacing Pool was not clean for the first 5 days of our stay Safe boxes in the wardrobes are not fixed down and you could lift them
Amazingly Beautiful! The grounds are well maintained. Bring your walking shoes and go take a wonderful walk! The apartment was lovely. I couple of issues, but repaired right away. We had a lovely cookout and watched sunset. The pool is very nice. The staff and reception were very helpful. Highly recommend. The prices are well worth it. Go drive and see the other villages. So beautiful! Just a breathtaking area of Tuscany.
Beautiful property at a scenic and peaceful location. We stayed in a 2 bedroom apartment which had 2 bathrooms, a real bonus! We appreciated the pool and the deckchairs scattered around the grounds of the property. There were many restaurant choices within 10 min drive from the property. Things we did not like: 1. We asked reception for towels for the pool and were told to use those in our room. We saw the same receptionist delivering pool towels to another party moments later. 2. We were charged 0.50 EUR per coffee capsule upon checkout. The reception claimed there's a note to inform the guests of this charge. We later found this note placed under the coffee machine. Also, it seems petty to charge for coffee capsules when a free bottle of wine was provided.
We enjoyed our 5 day stay. Had a lovely apartment with 2 bedrooms and 2 baths, kitchen, livingroom. The grounds are amazingly beautifully! Pool was lovely. We only had issues with the water heater. The dishwasher did not work at all and the odd air conditioning unit. It helped keep cool. But, we couldn't close shudders with the tubing and that caused the sun coming in very early in the morning. All our concerns and water heater were repaired quickly. Would definitely recommend
The property itself is very nice. Depending on when you are there, I imaging the views from our side which was same side as the pool, will change. There is a great view, that the farmers seem to constantly be changing. The view on the other side of the property is just as nice, with olive trees, vines and a little village and 5 star hotel/chateau on the distant hill. We didn't have use of the pool, as it had closed the week before, but it looks like a great place to relax throughout the year. Our room was great. Downstairs there is a big living room, dining table, full kitchen and 3 doors opening onto the sunny patio with great views. Upstairs a comfy sitting/reading area, with the bedroom and a big bathroom with bathtub off it. The Team are very friendly and willing to help, we were given a very good suggestion for dinner in the little town nearby about 5-10min drive away. There is also a big supermarket there. The only things to be aware of are that reception is only open from 9am-1pm. There is a security guard that comes by every couple of hours and walks around the properties and grounds even through the night with a flashlight (which surprised us the 1st night until we realised it was the security) Lastly just be aware the road to the property is a dirt road for just over the last km. Otherwise if you are looking for a relaxing escape with a view, you will really enjoy this place.
Very very old and noisy air conditioning. Broken fan, loud as an airplane propeller. An old iron that burns clothes. A stove that is not able to boil water even in two hours. The staff is only available until 5pm, then you can only cry when something breaks or doesn't play. The reception reacts to customer needs for a very long time. The iron was only replaced after two days. We waited 30 hours for a new fan. To our attention that the cooker broke, we got a reply that he was cooking but very slowly! In plus: Object very nicely located with excellent views, but could be more trees. Bathrooms well equipped and clean, comfortable beds. Comfortable pool area with a very good Tuscan view.
Wonderful Experience! Our apartment (1 bedroom) was perfect – large, very clean, and fully equipped kitchen. The pool area is very nice. Wifi works great, even for video calls. We were a bit hesitant to travel in the current situation, but Podere San Filippo made it easy while still sticking to the local COVID guidelines. The staff was very accommodating and friendly. Given the local COVID limitations they had limited reception hours, but they worked with our schedule for our arrival after closing time. Overall staff was extremely welcoming and easy to work with. It is important to be aware there is no restaurant on the property. This was an appeal for us, as we believe it helps maintain the tranquility of the overall environment. There is a grocery store very close. When you arrive-you instantly feel the overwhelming sense of calm and tranquility. We stayed 3 nights, but wish it had been a week! One of the few places where we plan to return!
Not only to they have an amazing Villa in the heart of lovely Tuscany, also their kindness, servicemindedness and flexibility when in contact with them. It is amazing and warming and makes you want to come back.
The MOST spectacular view! This was the best way to enjoy a peaceful trip to Tuscany. Linda was so helpful to us. Our vacation home was always kept clean. The pool was so refreshing. The grounds were immaculate. The only thing I recommend is to rent a car for your trips into Travenelle, Florence, San Gimignano or just sightseeing the countryside. (GPS a must!) Parking can be tricky in Florence, but there are parking garages too. You can take a high-speed train from Florence to Rome. It was a long day for us, but well worth the money. Thank you San Filippo ! George and Marianne M.
Amazing location, friendly staff, complete equipped. Only downside was that the air conditioning is not built in, its a machine with a tube out of the window, which means that the shutters couldn’t close. The whole family awoke at 6.30... on top of that lost one it’s tube during the night which left me overheated en dehydrated in the morning, wondering why it felt like I woke up in a desert. And it takes up space. Besides that we had a lovely stay!
We had a lovely stay. Beautiful well equipped rooms. Stunning views. Attentive personnel. Enough towels. excellent cleaning service. A closet full of DVD and books. Washing and drying machines with detergent. All free of charge. Only minor thing is we had to order an extra room for our 5 year old son, who always sleeps in our room. Something about government policy. That made the stay relatively expensive.
Amazing location over looking vineyards. Very private with pool and activities for families.
We were a family of 7 and rented two apartments across the hall from one another. They were clean and spacious, with fully-stocked kitchens and comfortable beds. The views from every window were picture-perfect Tuscany. Our teenagers loved the pool and chose to stay there for the day on one of the days the adults were touring San Gimignano and Siena. The location...on the top of a hill overlooking olive groves and vineyards....was unbelievably beautiful. The only negative was that the air conditioning had a hard time keeping up in the heat wave, but thankfully, the nights cooled off nicely, so we ended up opening up the windows and used the ceiling fans, which was fine. Linda, the reception host, gave us some great recommendations, including La Vecchia Piazza, a casual, fun little spot in town may have the best pizza we've ever had (and we're NJ Italians so we know our pizza). Highly recommend for families!
Wonderful and caring staff, who make you feel welcome and and at ease. Great and quite location to travel to cities like San Gimignano, Siena, Vinci and others. Excellent restaurant choices close-by at Castello del Nero and Tavarnelle Val di Pesa.
We stayed at the beautiful home/ resort for three night and it was amazing...the area is incredible and the location with the view fro. The home was beautiful!! We had a one bedroom suite with a full kitchen and a balcony and it was one of our best vacation ever! The staff is so nice and professional and it gave us all we needed to fill comfortable. We will be back!!!
As near as I will get to owning a Tuscan farmhouse. Surrounded by oliv groves and vines, remote enough to be peacefull, yet not far from good eateries and civilisation. The staff are some of the best I've ever stayed with and within reason nothing is too much trouble. I have stayed here several times and look forward to staying many more.
Beautiful setting and very spacious! Would definitely stay here anytime.
Wunderbar! Alles perfekt!
The place is wonderful it is very centrally located in all the vineyards and all the excellent restaurants I would definitely come again
Super lucky to find this holiday apartment for us. When we arrived, first we got a warm welcome from the reception staff, then we found there was a bag of fresh herbs and vegetables in the room that were actually from their garden, together with a small bottle of their own brand red wine. We rented a 2 bedrooms flat that was cozy enough for 4 people. TV and toilet in each bedroom, full equipped kitchen, air-con / fan etc. Front desk staffs were very helpful and friendly, we asked a lot about tourist places / restaurants etc and they gave us many great ideas. The apartment is a bit far outside, so own / rent car is highly recommended, coz if you need shopping for home cooking or go out for dinner, it takes 1/2 hr at least by foot. October is still a good time to go there, warm in the day time so we can go swimming, fresh at night and we can sleep very well without any air-con / fan. The apartment locates in the middle of Florence and Siena (more or less in the middle), so it's convenience to drive to those cities. The week we stayed there was the best trip in Year 2018.
Perfekt
We were in Italy for our 30th Wedding Anniversary and just completed 3 weeks visiting Northern Italy. We were leaving Florence with a Tasting & Tour at Antinori Nel in the afternoon. We were going to drive to Sulmona to visit our family there but decided to stop for a night at Podere San Filippo. This place is so exceptional, we it ended up staying for two nights! This place is special! The rooms are very nice, the grounds are well kept and also have an amazing garden. Upon check-in the staff delivered fresh veggies and cut flowers to our room. Really nice touch! We had dinner at the parent property (Nero) which was great. The views from there to Podere San Fillipo were beautiful. I highly recommend this area and place for a relaxing and memorable stay! Thanks to all the wonderful staff too!
What a great location, great owners and great food. Everyone that works here are so loving. A great and safe place to be with kids. You are 45 min away from Florence and about 25 min from San Gimignano. You can go visit and come back and be good. Love this place.
This was our first time here. But hopefully not our last. This has been amazing. What a lovely and beautiful place. I never want to go home. I couldn’t imagine that it would be this wonderful. We travelled with our almost adault kids and we got a two bedroom apartment. It was a fully equipped apartment. Dishwasher, air conditioning, a living room, two bathrooms, three TVs and bathrobes. Amazing!! Oh and great WiFi!! Even by the pool there was WiFi. The surroundings was beautiful and the view spectacular. Right next to wine fields. A few kilometres away is a small town If you want to do some grocery shopping. The pool area calm and wonderful. The staff kind and service minded. And we have never eaten a better cucumber in our lives. Thank you so much for a wonderful stay!!
This review is long overdue... my husband and I stayed here for a week with our 18 month old in September and had an excellent experience... we were upgraded to a 2-bedroom, 2-bath apartment and the extra space was more than welcome with an energetic toddler. The rooms are tastefully decorated and immaculate. The location is just a few minutes off of a major road, so very easy to get to nearby cities, and only a few minutes drive to the town of Tavarnelle, which had excellent restaurants and a Coop supermarket, which allowed us to make a few meals in the well-appointed kitchen. When we were there in Sept, it was a little chilly in the mornings and evenings, but warm enough mid-day that we took a dip in the pool a few times. The views from the pool and in fact all over the property are just picture-perfect Tuscany. My husband took advantage of the 20% spa discount at the sister property up the road (the gorgeous Castello del Nero) and had a nice experience. I would highly recommend this remarkably affordable property that combines the best elements of a hotel (daily housekeeping, staffed front desk, restaurants at nearby sister property) and the extra room and flexibility of an apartment (fully equipped kitchens, shared laundry/dryer, etc.).
I did not personally book this property but stayed in a villa with friends so I cannot comment on the staff or the booking experience but the villa was large with 2 air conditioned bedrooms with ensuite baths and TV's with English language programming available. The kitchen was equipped with all the amenities we needed. The pool was quite enjoyable in a very hot August. The only issue was that there was no a/c in the downstairs (kitchen, living, dining areas) and as it was unusually hot while we were there, it was quite uncomfortable.
Nice apartments, beautiful grounds and friendly staff
We arranged this through our Disney Vacation Club points. It was incredible. The accommodations were first rate; the setting was postcard perfect, and the staff was friendly and helpful. We took trips to Siena and Florence, and the car met us at the door, dropped us off in the center of town, and picked us up at the end of the day and dropped us back at our villa. It was a phenomenal experience. We are already planning our next trip. The caveat is we did this on our own and did NOT do organized tours, but our experience was perfect.
This was our second stay at Podere san Filippo And it was well worth a second visit. In spring/ early summer the weather was warm and sunny, the roses were blooming and the vineyards in leaf. We took trips to Florence, San Gimignano and ate at la Toppa ( marvellous food and wonderful warm welcome) in the historic town small town of San Donato. The 2 bed apartment we had was in the main reception house and had everything we needed, 2 bathrooms, beautiful bed linen and a very comfortable bed. All necessary crockery and cooking utensils came in very useful for the cooking we did in the apartment and a bunch of beautiful fresh flowers were waiting on our arrival at the apartment- a lovely touch. We ate at the Castillo de Nero restaurant ( la Taverna) and ate in the lovely open air, summer restaurant area, with fantastic views of the surrounding area. We also took breakfast there and that was such a pleasant experience , in the morning sunshine. The pool area and outside eating areas at Podere San Filipo were never crowded and we ate outside and sat around the pool with its glorious views. All the staff were wonderfully helpful and we booked out taxi transport and shuttle use to restaurants and day trips through them. I'm sure we will return and perhaps next time will be in June , when the many areas of lavender will be in bloom and smelling wonderful.
My wife and I spent a week in May in a two bedroom apartment. The room was very nice and the apartment was very large and comfortable. This place is in the country off of an old dirt road so having a car is essential. The staff is great always offering a smile and helpful attitude. There is a small town of Tavernelle nearby with multiple outstanding restaurants. Florence is only 40 minutes away and Sienna is only 30 minutes away so it's a good spot for spending day trips in those cities. Next door is a sister Hotel that is 4-5 star with two great restaurants and a spa. We loved this spot and will likely return.
