Food was excellent. Very good choices for breakfast and evening meal. Dining staff very friendly and accommodating.

Slightly off the beaten track if you didn't have a car but bus service good.

We had a wonderful stay at Hillthwaite Hotel. The hotel was beautiful with amazing views, the atmosphere was lovely, and the staff were really welcoming and attentive. The food was excellent, both breakfast and dinner delicious first class, delicious and beautifully presented. A special thanks for the thoughtful birthday card and the lovely decorations in the room when we arrived. It was such a lovely gesture! We really enjoyed our stay and would happily recommend the Hillthwaite Hotel to anyone visiting the Lake District. We hope to return again! ❤️

Breakfasts were excellent. But a special mention to Claire and Louise and especially Santa who really made a difference for us in the bar and the restaurant. And an even bigger special mention to Joanne on the front desk who rescued our weekend with a last minute room change

Honestly very little. But it would help to know which rooms do and don't have baths. The lovely photo's of the premium rooms with baths on the booking page sort of raise your expectations and of course not all rooms can be the same. Leading potentially to unintentional but significant heart ache. Also, some internal lighting in the wardrobe in room 16 would be welcome. When you open the doors to the wardrobe it blocks out any light from the room and its hard to see what your doing or read the safe numbers as they are not back-lit.

Finding out the overall cost, after paying £410 then finding I had to pay an extra £60 for breakfast and £165 for dinner and drinks. I should have booked a different way but being 80 I got things wrong. I do like the hotel and will go again.En

The staff were really friendly, helpful and generally excellent. The hotel itself is lovely and in a great location.

The room had no clock, the bathroom was far too small as there was nowhere to hang your towels and place your toiletries as the shelf was filled with the bath towels, the power outlets were in places that were in a very strange locations that were not easily accessible, the cooked breakfast was probably a at most a 4 out of ten, no taste at all

The overall experience has been really enjoyable. The hotel is cozy and the atmosphere relaxed. The room, the view and the food were all very good. A special thank goes to Claire and Luise for their great service and kindness from breakfast to dinner.

I had the feeling that the quality of the experience depends on the room you are assigned to. We were first placed in a "classic" room that was not nice at all (old furniture, no view, blind bedroom). When we said we were not happy they were really kind and offered an "occasion" room and from there everything was really nice!

We liked the location it was perfect to access the local town and dinning spots. The swimming pool and sauna was a great touch to our stay. The parking being free and right outside the hotel was great.

Room: The TV was very old and not a smart tv which was disappointing. The fan provided was very dusty and the mattress was very springy. Breakfast: The service is very slow and I requested for some more orange juice mutiple time and it never arrived. The salmon had a weird smell and the menu was limited.

This was my second time staying here and I absolutely love it! Location is fabulous, the terrace is perfect for an evening drink. The staff work so hard and are very attentive. Food and drinks lovely.

Sauna could be hotter and the mattress dipped on both sides so likely needs replacing.

It was light and airy , plenty of space . Excellent coffee and tea very high standard. Water which was change every day. Beautiful view very quiet .

The only thing I thought was it could have done with some blinds on bathroom and main bedroom windows , not very private . We had to keep curtain , blind curtains down which was a shame because of the light . But it most certainly didn’t spoil our stay or holiday .

This hotel was incredibly clean. It is modern and you can clearly see it has been invested in. The rooms have a beautiful crisp decor. The staff were attentive. I particularly observed how the staff were well mannered and caring towards the elderly (with respect), nothing was too big to ask for. The view from the hotel you can just make out the lake from the ground floor.

This hotel is exceptional. To go the extra mile, it would be good to have high quality fans (the current ones are not productive), and a bottle of water stocked in each room, particularly in the summer months. The shower pressure could be improved but I have to be fair, they are located at the top of a hill.

Rooms were very hot and humid even with windows open and fan on, couldn’t sleep well due to this. There was a sausage roll in the mini fridge when we checked into our room on Friday. So it had not been cleared out properly. Found the breakfast staff a little bit awkward with us

Beautiful and peaceful location, away from the business of the main parts of Windermere. Room was beautifully decorated, comfortable and large bathroom.

The pool was far too shallow to swim in. Though it was a bonus detail to have a pool so not a deal breaker. The vegetation sausages for breakfast were the vegetable ones, would have preferred fake meat (like quorn,etc)

Is a tradition we now come here every summer and is always perfect. We loved it again and see you next year 😀

Quite a steep hill upto hotel as we didnt go in car but that cant be helped but view made up for it.

We Booked the Superior room at Hillthwaite Hotel for £350 per night. I received a confirmation email and the money was taken. Whilst driving to the hotel on the morning of, we received a phone call from the hotel to confirm there had been a "mix up" and they could offer a less expensive room (the occasion room) and refund us £100. As we were already nearly at lake district we had no option but to agree at the time as this was far too short notice to arrange anything else. However after giving it some thought we later decided to refund the room and cut our losses and drive home after a short day trip. The occasion room is already £100 cheaper so we are in fact just paying full price for a different room that we didn't want. When I mentioned this to the person who contacted us, the defense was it is still a "very nice room." This is the equivalent of ordering a coffee and receiving a cup of tea and still paying full price. Yes they are both a liquid but why would you pay full price for something you didn't want due to their error? We booked the Superior room for the amazing view and full length windows. Due to a serious back injury, I haven't been able to leave the house since February, now that I am recovering this trip was supposed to be special, knowing I wouldn't be able to walk much around the neighbouring villages we planned to spend time enjoying the view from the room, and just enjoying some well-earned luxury in a room we booked and paid for. The hotel in fact wasn't really offering anything meaningful to apologise for their mistake. They mentioned they could offer a 2 course free dinner? Offering to refund £100 for the downgraded room is not a good will gesture, when this is already how much the cheaper room cost! Taking 2 days off work, packing a suitcase, driving all the way there only to receive the call when we are 20 minutes away.

My room (26) badly needed updating. Bathroom was clean and modern, but the actual room itself had old and scratched furniture. I asked receptionist if there was another room available and was told abruptly no. Did not find her particularly pleasant or helpful. Other than that, everything else was great

The hotel was modern and beautifully decorated and furnished to a very high standard, chairs positioned to look out over a stunning view,it was very clean and comfortable, highly impressed.

The only two things were that our room was very hot and opening the windows didn’t help. The other was that it was up three lots of stairs with no lift .

Cannot put finger on the root reason but somehow must be a management derived issue resulting in mealtimes with a continual aire of stress. Took the edge off the stay otherwise a very comfortable stay.

The breakfast was excellent, always served hot. The choice was very good. The evening meal we had was excellent, though there could have been a bit more choice for vegetarians. Our room was very comfortable, clean and tidy. Staff were friendly and helpful.

It was a little frustrating at first to have to book a pool time though I think this was mainly to do with health and safety.

Dining and breakfast times .no leaway and felt a bit uncomfortable.. Staff don't have time to mingle and chat with guests. . Breakfast menu misleading. Choice isn't what it seems. . And room rules ... surely your insurence covers for accidental damage a guest might do. Not expect the guest to pay if a genuine accident happens.. Room was beautiful but the easy chairs need recovered. They let the room down

It's quite high up on a hill, so no good if you have mobility issues. It was a bit awkward during the night when needing the toilet. I couldn't find a light to see where I was going.

Wonderful views and overall stay. Good sized bedroom, lovely ensuite and great access to swimming pool and sauna. Lovely food and comfortable lounge/bar. Great access to the lake for beautiful swims and walks.

All was fabulous, if i were being picky I felt for what the hotel offer in terms of the personal touch and cost and the market they are aiming towards then I would have expected more toiletries in the room, a hair conditioner and hand/body cream would have been nice, these also were not available for purchase. I also think, that despite breakfast being very nice with great choice that some food/drinks should be available for self service as staff were very busy and stressed. But appreciate they prefer table service.

Beautiful hotel in gorgeous gardens with a great view down to lake Windermere. Room was lovely, absolutely spotless and they even provided a ‘doggy bag’ for our Yorkie with a ball and treat (and poo bags!) Breakfast was delicious with lots of options and really nice staff too. Thanks for having us!

The bedsheets had some rips and holes in them The heating was on quite high in the bathroom during a heatwave, so the bathroom was quite uncomfortable to use. We did request this was turned down but never noticed a difference Some days it took quite a while for breakfast to be served. Sometimes around 20 minutes before your order was taken. The staff were always very nice and apologetic about this though, can't fault them There were some hairs on the bedding and in the shower when we checked in - unsure whether from previous guests or cleaners

I lost my earring, when it was found Elaine agreed to post it as we had left the hotel. The Queen size bed was very comfortable. Great breakfast too! It’s also a great location between Windermere and Bowness Pier.

Would have liked a wider selection of teas/ hot drinks in the room ( hot chocolate / herbal tea). No robes provided for swimming pool.
