Great little local pub/hotel. Nothing grand or exceptional but friendly and helpful staff, simple but good food. Excellent breakfast. Great value for money
New owners were very welcoming.
All OK
I like the quiet location. The room was comfortable, clean and a good size. It was very good value.
While I didn't have a problem with the food, the quality was fine, the menu was very standard pub grub, not very imaginative.
Le lieu est charmant et très propre, les propriétaires très sympathiques et accueillants
Very clean, and very nice friendly staff
Staff were friendly and helpful. Room large clean and comfortable Standard pub menu with plenty of choice
Quiet location set back from the road, friendly owners and a lovely cooked breakfast. A nice friendly pub for eating or just a drink in the evening.
All good thanks.
It was a very comfortable stay. The room was so clean. It had a fridge, a bath tub and drinks such as tea, coffee and hot chocolate! The breakfast is also great!
Nothing
Ideally located for our trip to the Lake District. The staff/owner were very friendly and the breakfast was excellent. Good to have a choice of local beers in the bar !
Nothing comes to mind
This is a quaint little hotel and pub under new ownership with Martin and Alison. Their warmth and spirit really make the place feel like a home away from home. The property is full of character and unique features. The room and bathroom were spacious, with everything we needed during our stay. There were plenty of teas and coffee available, and the room was spotlessly clean. We took breakfast and a couple of meals that were lovely too—a special shout out to Izzy, who was fab taking care of us in the restaurant and on check-in. The property is extremely quiet and easy to access, with plenty of parking. Look forward to seeing how this hotel evolves in the coming years, and hope to visit again!
Nothing.
Welcoming, clean and quiet. Spacious room with a comfortable bed.
Just on a personal basis due to mobility issues, the bath was too high to get in to use the shower. Away early morning so cannot comment on the breakfast starting at 8am. Noise of closing doors, people going up and down stairs and movement upstairs late at night! Unfortunately there was nowhere close for dogwalks.
It was clean and most staff were friendly… understand it’s under new ownership and hope they make improvements
Rooms weren’t cleaned daily had to ask for towels … only made beds on days they did come, no bins emptied… rooms need updating …better selection of breakfast options other than full english, one croissant, Nat yogurt and apple /banana … also only child cereals … menu would have been nice. Also tables set up for meals would look nice..
Handy
All good
Very clean
Great location. A local pub for locals.
Great location, friendly staff, clean facilities, great value, good buffet breakfast
The location was perfect for our trip to Keele University for the open day. The staff were welcoming and friendly. The rooms were clean and well presented. The hospitality was very good as was the breakfast.
I have nothing negative to report as far as the venue is concerned. All of our requirements were catered for.
The staff were very friendly, the food was good. Beds very comfortable.
There was nothing to dislike but parts of the bedroom could do with updating.
Fab stay. Lovely breakfast and evening meal. Staff were lovely.
Everything was very good including having a fridge in the room breakfast had good ingredients
The facilities wer3 great food was amazing rooms clean and comfy and really helped us out at dhort notuce. Everyone was really friendly
There isnt anything not to like it was really lovely
Stanza funzionale anche se non molto grande, buona colazione, posizione decentrata rispetto alla città
Parking, room, evening meal and breakfast.

Our host Martin, was really friendly, lovely hotel, beds were very comfortable one the best I've slept in. Breakfast was tasty, asked for an full English every morning we stayed, the cereal was a good variety and we enjoy our tea/coffee and toast. My Mum loves Weetabix and Martin went out of his way to get it for us, which was very nice, thank you Martin. Our rooms had a mixture of hot drinks so help yourself and the maid service ladies are friendly too. This was our 3rd Visit as it wasn't too far from Newcastle-under-Lyme and Keele University as our Son was a student there.
Apart from going home 😕
It was pleasant.
I originally booked this place because it was my Sons graduation at keele which is close.I also booked a family room because my elderly parents were attending but unfortunately due to health issues they couldn't make it. I was aware that I couldn't check in until 14:00 but we wanted to have lunch there I wasn't aware that food wasn't served until 16:30 maybe that was my mistake! It didn't spoil the day but I stayed alone with only one breakfast I do think I paid to much under the circumstances.
Welcoming vibe from staff. Food was lovely, had an evening meal and breakfast. Very easy parking and very pretty building. Cool rooms during the very hot weather. Good size room.
There is nothing to list
Excellent family run hotel. Lovely breakfast cooked to order. Clean rooms. Lovely friendly staff. I would certainly recommend this hotel. l if you are looking to attend Keele University for graduation.
Excellent customer service
A bit shabby but understand work being done - good luck with this
Nice people, excellent food
Very friendly and professional staff. It is a typical pub with rooms, whilst undergoing refurbishment. Food is well cooked typical pub food. Ample car parking.
Convenient location close to M6. Clean, comfortable room. Free parking. Good quality and choice of food. Friendly, welcoming staff.
Martin and the team were super friendly and helpful. The fish and chips supper was amazing, the breakfast very good. The room was comfortable and clean.
Breakfast was nice , room was good size and nice to have a little fridge and complementary bottle of water. All clean. Would stay again
The room was very clean and comfortable. The staff were so friendly and helpful. Food was delicious and the menu had plenty of choices. We would highly recommend this lovely, family run hotel.
Exactly what a pub with rooms should be. Great hosts, a regular non fancy pub, good basic pub food , parking outside, well equipped spacious clean rooms. Breakfast cooked to order at the agreed time. Easy to find away from the motorway.
What's not to like!?
Dog friendly rooms.
Lovely people, room was lovely and great value
This is a return trip having enjoyed the clean and quiet room. The owners are very friendly and are very willing to be helpful with any needs. It gets better with each stay. Will return again.
Nothing.
Really friendly welcome, good pub food for dinner and a lovely breakfast.
We had a lovely stay. The hotel was clean, comfortable, and good value for money. It was very quiet, which helped our anxious dog settle and sleep peacefully through the night. The location was great, with easy access to the motorway. The staff were friendly and welcoming. The pub was a lovely country pub and dog friendly. Breakfast was great, and although I didn't eat in the restaurant, the menu looked good and very reasonably priced. We would definitely stay again and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a comfortable, quiet, and dog friendly place to stay.
Nothing.
Very friendly. Rooms comfortable. Evening meal was good
The breakfast was barely warm as it was buffet so need to get better food warmers. Doors banging in accomodation side so possibly get soft closers.
Sehr freundliches Personal und leckeres, frisch zubereitetes Frühstück. Zimmer einfach, aber sauber, leichter Renovierungsstau

Since many years we are having our overnight stop on our way from Scotland to the South at the Crewe Arms Inn and enjoyed being there. Except for a short but disappointing episode with the new management last year. So we were delighted to see that the management had changed again this year - what a difference! The new owners Martin & Allison & staff are doing extra miles for their guests, serving hot breakfast (again), freshly cooked, dinner was also delicious and the entertainment and atmosphere in the bar couldn’t be better. We already booked our next stay and are looking forward to it!
The location was very pleasant. The staff were extremely accommodating. The new owners are extremely friendly and helpful. There has been great care and detail put into the breakfast selection. We arrived later in the evening but we still managed to get a cooked evening meal, the sausages were local butchers sausages. Great stop off near the M6 and very dog friendly. Our room was spacious and quiet. The beds were extremely comfortable and the cleaner is fantastic. Everywhere was cleaned thoroughly.

The hotel, shortly to be renamed The Madeley Arms, suited me perfectly. The new owners could not have been more helpful and welcoming, and are working hard to upgrade the place which is in an ideal location for Keele University and the Newcastle-under-Lyne area if one doesn't want to be in the city - also for stop-offs the M6. I would certainly return. If you have time, pause to look at the remarkably fine war memorial a short walk up the road.
Perhaps the sliced bread at breakfast could have been of a better quality, but the cooked breakfast was excellent.
Room was very clean.
Could have done with a comfortable chair in the room. Menu was quite limited
Friendly and helpful staff
Onder nieuwe leiding weer erg gezellig en service gericht. Het is wat ouderwets maar keurig en schoon.
Breakfast rather unimaginative, but ok. Supper was outstanding - lovely cooking , well balanced, delicious. Staff exceptionally helpful and courteous. Bedrooms spotless and comfortable; nicely decorated.
I would have liked to be able to open my bedroom window, but it looked onto a shared balcony.
Very friendly staff. Room was very clean, although a little dated. Beds were comfortable and towels were fluffy. Great location for attending a family celebration at a nearby venue. Breakfast was well cooked and there was plenty of it. Staff had only taken over the place a month ago, and were still finding their feet. However, despite this our stay was great.
The room we stayed in was right in front of the door to the stairs so negotiating the opening was a little challenging. There is nothing that would stop us staying here again
This was a small hotel and pub in a village location, not far from the M6 but a world apart. We used it for an overnight stay on a long journey, not needing or expecting facilities for a long break. We received a warm welcome and weary travellers were treated to personal service from the new owners, helpfully providing a late meal taking account of dietary restrictions. The property is set back from the road and has ample parking. The pub is becoming a focus for the small local community and the atmosphere in the bar is friendly and welcoming.
L'accueil et la sympathie du personnel. Le pub et la restauration à disposition. Un très bon rapport qualité prix👍
Stayed in this cracking village pub/hotel on Saturday night, breaking up the journey back home from Plymouth. Martin and Alison have only fairly recently taken over The Crewe Arms Hotel and are doing a cracking job. The hotel is ideally situated to the M6 and would be perfect for anyone looking to stop over in the Potteries area. Very reasonably priced, the bedrooms (we were in room 5) are spacious and very, very clean. The evening food choice is regular pub fare and is also extremely competitively priced. We opted for the ‘3 small plates for £10’ each, and were more than satisfied. If you are arriving or staying over, they also do a carvery on a Friday, Saturday, Sunday lunchtime. Breakfast is buffet style, with plenty variety in the hot options as well as the usual cereals etc. Martin and Alison were extremely friendly and I wish them well going forward. We would not hesitate to use this establishment again in the future. And it was only an extra £5 to have our dog Lula stay with us. Many thanks and best wishes for your future, Phil and Yana Spink.
We had a great stay. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, making us feel at home from the moment we arrived. Our room was spacious, and the beds were very comfortable, which made for a good night’s sleep. Breakfast was enjoyable with a nice selection, and I was especially pleased to find Earl Grey tea available—it was excellent. Overall, a lovely experience and a place I’d happily stay at again
Nothing.
Really friendly staff, room was excellent for the price, very clean.
Breakfast was a little slow got my coffee after I had finished my food but I believe the team were new to the property and I'm sure they will get it right going forward
A short but lovely stay on the way back from Wales heading to London. Just what i needed. Had a good rest, everything was made comfortable. I appreciated the hair dryer as the Wales accommodation didn't have one. Good value for money. The host was really attentive and took the time to prepare a delicious breakfast which set me right for the rest of my journey
Friendly staff lovely location great parking
Early days for the more owners but could not pick fault with anything
Friendly staff, good breakfast.
Basic, but value for money
Clean and friendly
Nothing
The food was very good and big portions, the staff was very nice and helpful, the location was ideal for our plans and that was basically why we chose this hotel, so close to the M6 to continue our trip, we don't like chain hotels and we found this pub/hotel with a lot of character.
The bedrooms are big and clean but very old, they could do with a little bit of modernization, paint and more comfortable beds and pillows.
The location was 15 minutes from the venue of a wedding I attended in the Dorothy Clive Garden and 15 mins from the M6. The staff were very welcoming and friendly. It was very comfortable accommodation for my two night stopover and I would recommend it.
The new owners are lovely people who made us feel very welcome and have put a lot of effort in to improving the premises and making it fun for the customers of the pub. In the past we have been there on quiz night, this time it was Bingo which was very well attended. Generous prizes for the winners and the added bonus of bites to eat at the end.
Nothing
Good. Would have like some yogurt and fruit salad.
The new landlord is transforming the place and has made a brilliant start. FOOD --- lite bites served in the evening and the breakfast were marvelous ROOMS --are being refurbished but are clean and comfy
The entrance to the hotel car park is not on Wharf Terrace and should be explained on the joining instructions
Convenient location reasonably priced and friendly staff and great entertainment
Was not there long enough to make judgement
The breakfast was a buffet which was fresh and delicious. The staff were friendly and newly acquired family business that the locals seem to appreciate. The location was perfect for us as a stop off on the way to Scotland. About 5 mins of the motorway or a nice traditional pub.
Nothing.
New owners very friendly
Staff were really lovely and welcoming. My room was really big and well cleaned when I arrived. Overall, loved my stay and would recommend for a quiet and comfortable night.

Good breakfast location for our needs were good excellent bar with a good selection of drinks
Couldn't fault anything
Incredibly welcoming staff, and a really good "community" feel to the whole pub. Good food, good beer and a comfy bed. They even made fried bread especially for me in the morning :)
Loved, loved, loved our stay. Booked last minute while on the road. It was exactly what we were looking for. Quiet, quaint, village hotel, friendly helpful management and staff, very clean comfortable rooms. Fridge in the room was a bonus. Lovely large, clean fluffy towels. English Breakfast was perfect with a number of additional options available - help yourself style. We had dinner in the bar and were made to feel like one of the locals by the the villagers. A really great experience. Thank you. We plan to spread the word.
Very minor - can I suggest soap at the bathroom sink.
Great food, great staff, had a wonderful evening.
Nothing not like.
Lovely friendly & welcoming team. The Crewe Arms has only recently changed hands & I feel the new proprietor has already improved things in both the bar/restaurant & the hotel experience. Couldn't have been a better host...real attention to detail. Breakfast was delicious. My room was quiet & the bed was so comfy....I had a great night's sleep. I shall definitely be returning...Thankyou.
Everything was tip top....nothing to dislike.
BAD internet needs rooms updating looking tired
A great place to break up a long road trip! The managers are lovely, made me feel very welcome. Had a lovely cold pint after my long journey. Room was very clean & comfortable bed. Really delicious coffee in the morning & a lovely hot breakfast too. Great value for money.
Very friendly and helpful staff. The owner was very friendly and helpful. Room spacious, clean and quiet, perfect for a good nights sleep.
Nothing
Having recently taken over the property the owners & staff couldn't have been any better as hosts, really attentive & courteous and friendly. Rooms were very comfortable, clean and had everything you required for an overnight stay. Food was lovely and a nice cooked breakfast. The Bar was cosy and had a great array of local ale's and selection of other refreshments.
Nothing
Lovely experience...new owners who were really friendly. Lovely location. Rooms in need of update but still good especially with two dogs. Would recommend it.
Excellent breakfast included in booking. Owner and staff very helpful, very quiet location. Room clean and spacious.
For me the choice of main meals was fine but some may find it a limited menu.
Welcoming new owners who went out of their way to make our stay excellent.
Nothing
Great breakfast
Lovely staff, very comfortable, nice breakfast, even sausages for the hound x
This was a great little stop off and they were very friendly and accommodating. The food in the pub was really nice as well. We will be booking to stay here again
Friendly welcome, easy parking, nice selection of drinks in the bar.
Room wasn't quite ready on arrival, no bag in bin in room
Martin was a most fantstic host who has just taken over this hotel. The buffet breakfast was excellent - including the vegan susages. I wish Martin and his partner all the best in their new venture : )))
The breakfast was lovely .. the owner was very welcoming ..
The staff we’re leaving The chef was leaving The staff were rude The breakfast was a small continental but we had booked with the expectation of a full English breakfast It was terrible
Good location, comfortable bed, strong shower, didn’t hear anyone around so thick walls.
The breakfast was unpleasant. In a way that all the dishes and utensils were sticky, felt like they were dirty. Hot breakfast was served only on one day due to the chef being sick.
Lovely clean hotel room, very comfortable bed indeed.
Unhappy landlords. Dirty cutlery, bowls etc at breakfast. Sadly care was lacking.
Excellent Value, very friendly and helpful staff. Full English cooked to perfection !
All good.
the wifi was not good the noise of the pipes and the bed was not comfortable
My stay was great friendly staff and a great location plus the food was excellent.
