Beautiful setting between Ambleside and Windermere. Couldn't speak more highly of the staff - very attentive and welcoming to us both (and the dog!!)

Beautiful location. Comfortable beds and excellent power shower. Staff were very friendly and helpful.

Property seemed a little dated.

Found the staff helpful, polite attentive and engaging, and an asset to the establishment, Dinner in the restaurant was excellent, and breakfast was also great. Had a Garden Room with a lovely view. The room was nicely appointed, comfortable and very clean. Wifi worked well. I'd willingly recommend and would certainly stay there again.

Really great stay. Clean and quiet room. The restaurant was amazing (especially the desserts). The staff were friendly and attentive.

The only problem was the pillows were a bit too hard, but were replaced when we asked for softer ones.

An extremely clean, comfortable and cosy hotel in a great location.

Breakfast and lunch were super, didn't have dinner as was with family elsewhere for that. Room was excellent with great furniture, nice TV and very comfortable kingsize bed. Lovely big ensuite bathroom with large tub and modern shower.

No instructions for the coffee maker! Liked everything else!

Lovely large room with huge super king bed that was very comfortable. Lovely large ensuite too! Breakfast was really good and plentiful. Parking was good although the drive was very bumpy and paths not good for high heels!

The only thing I would say is that it would have been helpful to have a few tourist maps and info in the room along with information about dining options both in the hotel and locally.

I have stayed at this hotel previously. Lovely hotel in its own grounds. Got the pleasure this time of seeing a small deer on the lawns in the early morning. Visited the highland cows in the field behind the hotel and watched the Robins from my patio. I cannot fault this hotel. Clean, homely, welcoming, friendly. The staff cannot do enough for you. Breakfast choices are great. Lovely lounges to relax and have a drink. Outside patio area overlooking the gardens. Definately will be staying again.

The driveway leading upto the property could do with some maintenance.

Sadly I had to leave at 7.30am, & breakfast didn't start until 8am. BUT...the staff kindly gave my husband a sausage bap to take for me to have later!

The hotel lived up to the description on Booking.com and I cannot speak highly enough about your staff… and the quality of breakfast and dinner. A lovely building with good parking.

It pains me to complain, but in all seriousness I cannot imagine why the driveway has not been relaid, especially while the weather has been so good for so long. Because, as the hotel points out, the entrance needs to be accessed quickly off the Ambleside Road, it is impossible to avoid an initial jolt on the broken surface, but once on the drive the surface gets even worse. Sadly, it would put me off booking in the future unless I knew that the problem had been addressed.

Such a lovely place to stay. Room was wonderful, with a large comfy bed and a large bathroom with a shower over a large bath. It was at the back of the hotel so was lovely and quiet. It was nice to have a well stocked hospitality tray and the sweets and biscuits were a lovely tough. The room and bathroom were spotless. The staff were lovely and so helpful a credit to the hotel. We had not booked an evening meal but even though they were busy they managed to fit us in and the food was wonderful. Breakfast was great with a lot of choice. I will be coming back to stay.

Only one issue for me and that was the window covering. The room we were in only have a blind which had gaps in it and you had to then bring down a second blind to cover the gaps from the back. Sadly even though you did this there were still gaps which let light through.. Would have been nice to have had a curtain that you could have pulled across as well.

The man at reception who took care of us and our dog was wonderful.

Briery wood was amazing, the hotel itself and the grounds were lovely, the staff were so welcoming and helpful they are a credit to the place, my room was really lovely it was clean and comfortable, I loved the doggy welcome pack and my jar of sweets, lovely touches.

Room was comfortable and the dinner (quality of food, value for money) was excellent. The lounge space areas were also very comfortable and it was good to be able to have a few moments prior to dinner to sit and have a drink.

The breakfast was not as good as we had expected. The toast came too early and was cold by the time the main breakfast came, and the potato cakes dont really work. Hash Browns would be better with a cooked breakfast. The coffee could be a little stronger too! The driveway from the road up to the hotel also needs to be replaced/resurfaced. To be honest, it doesnt give a good impression as it is so bumpy and full of potholes - would strongly recommend you to fix that ASAP.

The staff were excellent - cleanliness was excellent - breakfast was good. The room was smart and fairly modern and appealing to the eye. The lounge's were also appealing with nice furniture.

The shower was electric and the water flow wasn't very strong - if that was better it would be an improvement. Also the shower screen by the bath side didn't seal properly, so the bathroom floor got very wet. Also a small fridge would have been of benefit and also an iron in the room

The location of the hotel was perfect. We booked a garden room which was great as we had our dog with us. The bedroom door opened onto beautiful gardens and seating area . We liked the idea of being able to take our dog to breakfast with us. She was never left out. Lovely breakfast too and very friendly helpful staff.

We just felt our bedroom needed a bit of tlc and was ready for a deep clean although the bathroom was very clean. The curtains were in holes, we daren't close them. The room was also dusty in places.

Qu'il fasse trop chaud dans la chambre malgré la température extérieure fraiche et les ventilateurs.

The mattress

The prices were overpriced and the pictures showed the lake but the property wasn’t on the lake. It’s very old and the food was super expensive and not like in the pictures.

The gardens are lovely to sit out at and the hotel is very clean.

We had a slight problem on checking in but the customer service we received by staff Ish & a lovely young man made everything fine !

Staff, location, pricing

Lights kept flickering whenever they were put on. Room 8. We're unsure of breakfast timings so we just missed out

Arrived at 1450, told no electricity till 1800, could not have a shower or any food , so had to walk 2 1/2 mile to town to get food, walked round town then back to hotel got back at just after 1800 to be told elec will be on 1900 sat in room no tv no shower no brew untill 2005hrs when elec came back on . then in mornining handed key over no apology , still no email to apolagise just this generic email ,On behalf of all the staff at the Briery Wood, thank you for choosing to stay with us. Flawless stay. The room was pristine, the AC worked silently, and the bed was pure heaven. Highly recommend

Comfortable rooms, very friendly helpful staff and ample parking.

breakfast hot tasty and quick to be served once ordered. Cereals and fruit with accompaniments self serve. Greeted by staff and orders for drinks and main course taken immediately after sitting down. Dinner was included in price so we had choice of three courses if required ( typically only had two). A small menu sufficient choice for a few days stay. Good portion sizes, hot, very tasty and delicious. Staff obliging as to requests for alternative veg, sauces etc. Able to sit outside ( or inside) once meal chosen to have a relaxing drink, then called in once food ready.

Room was a good size but they were unable to appoint the twin beds I requested. The room allocated does need refurbishment, although very clean. new carpet needed ( some old stains), bathroom still had corner Jacussi bath which was very slippy when having a shower ( brought my own bath mat). A grab rail would have useful to get over and into the big bath ( shower placed over bath). You would have required to stand on a chair if windows needed opening or closing ( kept open to cool room down during heat spell). Furniture also could do with upgrading although comfort requirements were met.

The room was very comfortable. An excellent shower and the room was on the level as I walk with a stick which makes stairs difficult so I appreciated that consideration.

Everything! They really do put the “friendly” in “dog friendly” my dog was given a lovely doggy bag with a ball, treats and poop bags for our stay. And the staff were so attentive towards him and me, all making sure we were happy. We will definitely be back and I highly recommend not just for people with dogs but for everyone. The place is so peaceful, welcoming and beautiful! Nothing was too much trouble for the staff. I only stayed one night but it was genuinely the best experience I have had, not just for my dog but for me as well. I actually didn’t want to leave, but i will definitely be coming back.

Very dog friendly and welcoming staff

It’s not a dislike so much as a difficulty but my dad is disabled and struggled with the stairs up to his room. That said, the staff did provide the only GF room with a walk in shower which was great.

What an incredible location, the staff were super friendly and accommodating. They loved our little Doggo. Our room was immaculate and the beds were very comfortable.

My daughter luckily chose the briery wood for her wedding weekend. A beautiful hotel set in stunning grounds. I can't thank the staff enough for going above and beyond to make it a perfect weekend. Excellent food was also much appreciated bonus. Thanks again

Close to the lake. Dinner at location was great and the maître at the bar was really nice.

Nobody at reception was really interested in anything so it started a bit off, almost like we were bothering, despite being only one night. The beds were very close to the nightstand/bedside table and I hit my face while I was sleeping in that corner which was very hurtful.

It was very hot (unusual I know, for Lake District) and the property had no air conditioning. While older buildings of this character usually do not, it may be something we have to see if the impact of global warming continues here in the UK.

requested a downstairs room if possible.as i was on crutches.On arrival i was given a room at the far end of the hotel at the top of a flight of stairs.On querying this i was told by the receptionist that they had a downstairs rooom when i but booked up but a wedding party had taken the down stairs rooms and none were now available.Even now i am trying to make sense of this explanation.I had received a text off booking.com confirming that the hotel had agreed to my request but as i had not confirmed this with the hotel itself i was in the wrong.Ok guys but you coul have let me know that you could not fullfil the requet Seems a SHAMBLES all round.I was in room 21which had a balcony, so if there had been a FIRE al least i could have jumped off it.Talk about a SENSE OF HUMOR.

It’s a little tired few stains on the carpet in the room and outside. Ran out of a lot of drink options, bill was wrong lots of charges on there that were not ours! We wanted to leave early good job we didn’t! Breakfast seemed disorganised! Didn’t bother second day. Need some artwork on the walls to make you feel like you’re in nature! Recommend Brett Lydiatt wild life photographer at www.naturespassions.com I just used him for a corporate office refurb cheap and make a huge difference! Especially needed in the dining room
