The Duke William

A welcoming village pub which is a great place to stay. The breakfast is first class and there is a very good choice of food in the evening.

Lovely area. Lots of free street parking. Breakfast was delicious. Bottled water, fresh milk and coffee pods supplied. Accommodated early check-in.

Tiny tv in room. Unbearable beat from pub music and people constantly banging through the floor until 11pm. Bathroom needs some maintenance work. No complimentary tea or biscuits in room.

Everything was top notch. Set in a lovely little village The Duke William was very inviting, staff all extremely friendly and helpful and food delicious. Breakfast was included and the the quality was best we have had in a long time. Rooms very comfortable. We are deficomonh back

Die Gastgeberin war unglaublich freundlich und hat uns das beste Frühstück im ganzen Urlaub zubereitet. Das Zimmer war echt kultig und so überdiemaßen ausgestattet. Es gab eine Kaffeekapselmaschine und eine Flasche Schokolikör gratis. Das hab ich sonst nirgends erlebt. Auch gab es im Bad jede Menge Luxusextras wie hochwertige Duschsachen und so was. Gerne wieder.

Die Oropax waren schon gut, da die Straße direkt dort vorbei geht.

Didn't realise breakfast was from. 9 -10 when i booked, well worth waiting for but wouldn't suit those staying for work leaving earlier, pack up breakfast available but not the same.

The Room: - It was stunning, immaculate, and very clean. Having a balcony door that opened directly onto my own terrace was a fantastic added bonus. I really like idea of “pantry” room where you can pick extra towels, milk etc The Breakfast: - The breakfast was very good. I tried multiple options over a couple of days, and whether I chose sweet or savoury, everything tasted incredibly fresh. The Atmosphere (restaurant): - The art displayed throughout the pub and restaurant gives the entire place a unique, quirky, and memorable look. - I did stay for dinner and lunch couple of times and if it was mackerel, fish and chips or Sunday roast nothing disappointed and I have no criticism The Staff: - What truly makes this place special is the people. Special thanks to Emma and Lilly! Both girls went out of their way to answer all of my questions and provided lovely recommendations for both wines and meals.

Maybe the WiFi can be improved, but the moment I mentioned this to staff they help me resolve it ;-)

Lovely place, clean, friendly got a better nights sleep here than I did at a premier inn the night before. Coffee machine and complimentary water and wine everything about the place was spot on.

It was very noisy from the pub below without any sound proofing (I.e. thick carpet underlay).

Very friendly staff, nice room, restaurant was great and the atmosphere in the pub was really good. Breakfast was perfect. The location is ideal for visiting a number of local attractions and Canterbury. We will definitely be going back there.

Location in the village is fantastic, such a beautiful spot, and there's no street lights there which was an experience. Breakfast was good and the food in the pub is good. Nice welcome drink in the room.

Booked 2 rooms for family, the bigger room was directly above the bar and you can completely hear conversations in the bar as if you are sitting at the table which I guess not much can be done about that, however its not cheap and if you want to sleep before midnight bring serious ear plugs.The second room was very small for the price and the window did not open which made it feel a bit claustrophobic although no noise in there.

I found the bed slightly uncomfortable but only a minor issue. There is lots of noise from the bar below so anyone who doesn’t want to be disturbed should take earplugs.

Located just less than 5 miles from Canterbury. Perfect location to explore the surrounding area. Walking options on your doorstep. Amazing food both for dinner and breakfast. Very clean.

Lovely people, extremely welcoming. We arrived on bikes and our hosts were very accommodating, finding us a space at the back of the building to safely secure them. The balcony attached to our room was great, and the breakfast was the best I have ever eaten whilst away! Superb cherry tomatoes...

Un établissement un peu en retrait de la ville mais avec les avantages d'une petite structure : le personnel est très convivial, le petit déjeuner inclus, le restaurant prépare de la nourriture faite maison, c'était très bon. Il était facile de se garer et les chiens sont acceptés gratuitement, Je recommande vivement !

Noise as it’s above the pub

Ontbijt werd geserveerd in de gezellige pub/restaurant. We konden kiezen van de uitgebreide ontbijtmenukaart. Heel aardig personeel bracht het voortreffelijke ontbijt. Heerlijke yoghurt met muesli, toast met gepocheerd ei en avocado, alles op met zorg opgemaakte borden. Het ontbijt was meer dan goed!

Location was superb. Easy parking and friendly staff. Food was good too. Easy to get to the sea and the places we wanted to visit.

The pub didn’t close until nearly midnight, which meant voices could be heard in the room from the bar until then.

Lovely cosy traditional country inn. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Good choice of drinks and food was excellent, one of the best ribeye steaks I've had in years! We visit family regularly in the area and I think we've found a new go to stay over!

We had a room directly above the bar which was a little noisy, this didn't bother us as we stayed late in the bar however, it may not suit everyone.

How friendly all the staff were . The oub atmosphere was fantastic. Our room.was light airy and plenty of space. We tea coffee and water in our room and on the landing was milk in a fridge and extra water. The bathroom.was well.stocked with toiletries lovely Great big bath towels and was very clean. We also had a decanter of chocolate wine .in our prive was breakfast which they are more than happy to adapt for you with tea coffee and fruit juice.

The hotel was set in the very pretty little village of Ickham. It had a very olde world charm and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was nicely decorated and was very well stocked with things such as toiletries, towels and bottle of water.

Breakfast menu was a little limited.

I was made to feel very welcome on a quick trip away, as was my little dog.

The room was really noisy as soon as there were people downstairs in the pub. It was silent overnight though so sleep wasn’t disturbed, just woke a little earlier than I would have liked & the pillows weren’t the best !

Really helpful. Booked for my son and his girlfriend to celebrate a special birthday. They even arranged a breakfast hamper for the morning as they had an early start the next day. Fantastic service and a lovely meal in the restaurant. A gem of a pub for an overnight or a just a meal and drinks. Thank you!

Quirky, friendly attentive staff. Great food and drinks menu. Everything you wish for in a country pub stay. Would wholeheartedly recommend.

Duke William is charming in a beautiful little Kent village. The staff are great and the food is phenomenal considering you’re not sitting in some high end restaurant with high end bills . To top it off you can bring your four legged friend.

Only downside side is it’s difficult to park as there’s limited on street parking but that wasn’t a surprise as the advertise that , I certainly wouldn’t let that put me off going

Great village pub that is still a village local, a rare find. This is mostly due to the manager, whose name I've forgotten, and his excellent team. Great beer, cider, and food.

Bed was a little creaky, and some noise from pub below during opening hours, but that's to be expected.

Good bar atmosphere, nice rooms, good breakfast

Where you’d expect noise from a pub with rooms whilst the bar is open, this was ridiculous! They have taken down the ceiling in the bar and exposed the floorboards of the bedrooms above. There is no plaster, or plasterboard, and no ceiling void with or without insulation, so all that stands between the bar and your bed is 20-odd mm of reclaimed pine floorboards and some thin contract carpet. Noise-wise your bed may as well be in the bar! 🤣 Got back to the pub in the AFTERNOON to find it rammed with 40th birthday in progress, with a band! Now the happy revellers had to shout to each other over the music. You have to have the volume uncomfortably high on your ear pods to block out the shouts, swearing, cackles, etc! It was too much so we checked out, losing another night’s paid accommodation.

The pub was really lovely. Really competent, attentive staff. It had a nice atmosphere and felt cosy and warm despite it being freezing outside.

The bedroom we stayed in was nice but small. It needed bedside lamps but only had a reading light or bright ceiling spot lights. Tea and coffee but no biscuits.

Very nice b&b inside of a very cozy and lively pub. The breakfast was absolutely amazing with all fresh ingredients. There was a nike hike 9km to do from the pub. Our doggo enjoyed it a lot.

The room was a little too hot on arrival, but no problem turning it down.

The Duke William is situated in a small village near canterbury. It is great if you are travelling with your dog. Most staff are very friendly towards your animals.

We spent 2 nights there. The first night was great. Staff lovely, food great and customers very friendly. Our dog met up with many friendly pooches too. The second night was disappointing as the pub seemed to carry on with the noise till midnight. Our room being above the front door we had noise from banging doors, shouting youngsters and even the booming voice of a man who was using the "f" word every 5mins ! Being a pub you expect some noise till 10:30 maybe 11 but not midnight. Other paying g guests were annoid as we heard them banging on the floor but to no avail. It was obviously not heard above the music being played until, it sounded, like around 4 people decided to leave or go to bed!

A wonderful pub - with four lovely guest rooms. The Duke William is the perfect balance of traditional pub with a modern aesthetic. Friendly staff, great wine list and food menu - and an amazing breakfast the next day! We'll definitely be back!

2 night stay The property is Fabulous through out, Clean rooms perfect shower, comfy beds Tea coffee facilities inc complimentary Port. Staff were friendly and helpful. We had dinner here 1 evening and it was delicious. Breakfast was also superb

This hotel is located in a village. The building is a bit old, and the soundproofing could be better. However, the overall stay was quite pleasant. The service was excellent, especially the elderly staff at the bar downstairs, who were very helpful. For breakfast, we ordered fully vegetarian options, which were particularly delicious.

Breakfast didn't start until 9am which is late if your staying on business. A breakfast box was provided but it was a bit poor

Wir hatten einen tollen Aufenthalt im Duke William! Schon bei der Ankunft haben wir uns nach einem herzlichen Willkommen sehr wohl gefühlt! Wir hatten unseren Hund dabei, was überhaupt kein Problem war (eher im Gegenteil). Der Pub ist typisch britisch, wir haben ein gutes Abendessen genossen. Auch das im Preis enthaltene Frühstück war mehr als reichlich und sehr lecker. Die Umgebung ist wunderschön und für lange Spaziergänge bestens geeignet. Wir würden jederzeit wiederkommen!

Nach wie vor eine schön eingerichtet . Wasser , Kaffee und sogar ein kleines Fläschchen Portwein zur Begrüßung im Zimmer. Handtücher sehr weich und von guter Qualität.

Leider ist das Essen nicht mehr so gut, wie vor Jahren, als wir das letzte Mal dort waren. Normales Pubessen , Gemüse musste man extra für 5 Pfund bestellen und war geschmacklich fad. Da haben wir letztes Mal so gut gegessen, dass zu vermuten bleibt, dass entweder Besitzer und Koch gewechselt haben. Auch die Halbpension, wie es in unser Buchung stand, war nur Zimmer mit Frühstück. Dies sollte dringend korrigiert werden. Die Zimmer während der Öffnungszeiten im Pub sind sehr laut, dafür stehen Ohrstöpsel zur Verfügung. Ab 22 Uhr wird es ruhiger am Wochenende wahrscheinlich später. Frühstück ok , poached egg und Avocado, Toast sehr lecker.

No chair nor trestle to put case in our room. We arrived at 8.50 due to delay of ferry from France, the restaurant was already closed and there was no alternative - we had to make do with a packet of crisps for supper

The village is nice

I write this as I booked considering the reviews of others and honestly I was very disappointed . There are 5 rooms in total One was used by a member of the staff who at 1.00 am come upstairs banging the door of to the stairs which was locked for guests when the pub closed at 11pm. Room was noisy after 11pm in till 1.00 am due to the loud talking of the staff downstairs and kitchens. The carpet in the room was unbelievably dirty and the bathroom no better. The bed which was reviewed as comfortable was not... we had a very bad nights sleep. Parking can be difficult.

A fantastic stay. Rooms just perfect. Lovely touch with the coffee machine and the fridge in the pantry with fresh milk and additional bottled water. Breakfast was excellent and far far beyond anything that you would expect at a pub type of stay. Location was quiet and a great base to explore Kent and the coastline. Staff were lovely and nothing was too much trouble. Full marks for the Duke William’👏👏
