A fantastic little hotel in a charming old building. The room was decorated in a lovely way and was very cozy. It was cleaned to perfection. The young man doing housekeeping was also extremely nice and service-minded.

Very conveniently located close to ferry terminal. Five minute walk to ferry terminal and very close to lots of shops and the main streets of Oban. Kind and helpful staff. Had the basics we needed.

There was quite a bit of noise from the ferry announcements and trains on occasion, but we turned on brown noise and were able to sleep fine. No noise in the middle of the night that we noticed.

It was very close to the train, ferry and Main Street. The room was beyond expectations with great views to the ferry and a little kitchen

It has a great vibe, lots of character and really big room

Room was larger and brighter than our other stays in Scotland, and nice and clean. A well lit mirror for shaving and make-up was another positive. It's an old building but rooms look recently painted and furnished. Easy 3 minute walk to trains, buses and ferries. The breakfast was quite good value but just open for an hour and we preferred the porridge at nearby Coast Cafe. There's a cozy lounge bar with games and books.

We were prepared for the stairs. Check out was a bit early at 10am. The luggage storage is in an open hallway, so not secure if that worries you.

The hotel is very central. The room was spacious, comfortable, and clean. The bathroom was functional and clean. The lady at the bar was friendly and helpful. The self check in and check out has been flawless.

Very poor shower. If you wanted hot water the shower was a dribble. If you wanted a cold shower no problem. Room was tiny but ok for 12 hr stay

We had a very comfortable 3 nights here with a lovely view. It was great to watch the ferries coming and going. Very useful having the kitchenette. The weather was unseasonably cool but the radiator soon warmed the room up.

We had all we needed and plenty of floor space; the only issues were limited headspace in part of the room, and the need to pay for parking after 9am.

The room was clean but was basic and old, the walls were in need of some paint work due to stains and the bathroom was old and needs renovating. The room was okay but was ridiculously overpriced at 240 pounds a night.

Una de las habitaciones era muy muy fría, y respecto a los colchones, el individual era firme y nut cómodo, pero en la doble te hundías y le faltaba firmeza - un repaso a los colchones le iría bien.

Everything about the Kelvin was wonderful. A very quick walk from the train and the middle of Oban. There’s no front desk but there was a very nice man there when I got in and he helped me get the lay of the land. My single room was teeny but was so well decorated and comfortable and cozy. The bathroom was newly renovated and was really nice and clean. The bar was open and the woman who worked in there was great. All around great stay, I didn’t want to leave and if you’re taking the ferries out to the islands, it’s a perfect home base.

the mattress slanted down on the side on my single bed but I put my neck pillow under the mattress to prop it up and it was fine.

Reception on arrival was stated as being self-checking in, but what eventuated was the barman checking you in instead, in a cordial but formal manner. Instructions were given, along with assistance with luggage offered, which if required should be taken, as there are a number of stairs to climb (depending on where your room is located). Room on entry appeared quite bleak, with minimalist furnishings and stark white beds. The room itself was very large, containing three beds in three separate locations, each with a small bedside table. Only other piece of furniture, other than a television screen, was a small table upon which sat the jug and sachets of complimentary beverages. No mini fridge or desk /table from which one could work from, or wardrobe. Bed uses were also quite lumpy. Bathroom was small but adequate other than the shower was so small, that one could barely move one’s arms around to wash oneself. Wash basin’s hot water took a very long time to produce hot water, which only flowed as a dribble anyway. Shower water however was scalding hot. Towels were supplied but NO face cloths. Well located to the center of Oban, so getting a meal (which are not offered at this Hotel), was easy, and provided a means for some retail therapy. Very handily located also for those arriving by train of ferry. Excellent complimentary Wi-fi.

The proximity to the train station and ferry terminal and the lovely views of the harbour really make the Kelvin shine. The studio was very comfortable and the staff, from owner to cleaning crew, were friendly and fun.

My 14-year-old son and I spent three wonderful days at The Kelvin Hotel in Oban, and we had an absolutely fantastic stay. Olban is such a beautiful town. Everything was excellent. The hotel was very well equipped, spotlessly clean, and had everything we needed to feel comfortable. Honestly, we wouldn't change a thing. A special thank you to the gentleman working at the bar. Unfortunately, I forgot to ask his name, but he was incredibly friendly, welcoming, and always happy to help. He really made us feel at home. We left with wonderful memories and would happily stay here again. Highly recommended!

It was just what I needed - a bed for the night close to the harbour and railway station

Nice welcome. Nice clean and reasonably spacious bedroom, en suite ok, but no shelves for toiletries. Room included a fridge, but no tea or coffee for a brew-up. Didnt take breakfast. Lots of breakfast cafes nearby. We used the Shore Cafe, 2-300 yards away .

Bedroom walls quite thin. Easy to hear noise from other rooms and corridor. Bar prices quite expensive. £8.50 for a malt whisky. About £6 at nearby Wetherspoons.

Close to train station and harbour. Self check in - just take the keys left in a bowl. Clean bathroom.

Didn’t see any staff during my stay. Single room very basic, cheaply done and small.

Located on a town centre quiet street, very convenient for the ferry port and railway station. The small rooms are clean and comfortable. Parking is not provided but it was easy to park opposite with free parking from 6 p.m to 9 a.m. Check-in is simply an envelope with your name on containing our key, located in the entrance hall; that was also check-out. The friendly manager was helpful, especially with helping with suitcases on the stairs on arrival. We already knew that no evening meal was available and he pointed us in the direction of suitable restaurants nearby but note that they can be busy with ferry travellers.

We had not ordered breakfast but decided to eat in when the breakfast restaurant opened at 07.30. It had not been fully prepared (no hot water or coffee) and no one came until nearly 8 a.m. We had brought a kettle down from our room and were eating an adequate and pleasant breakfast of what was available (continental) when one staff member arrived. For reasons which were unclear, a tense unpleasant conversation ensued. We paid for our breakfasts, and the receipt was accompanied by a kind of apology. Somehow, it was our fault.

Cleanliness, We were charged an extra £60 directly because we wanted a high floor. We had asked for a bigger room as my husband is a very tall man. We were offered a family room where the beds left a lot to be desired (saggy.) The carpets need to be renewed and the toilet compartment smelled. I also found an earplug under radiator in the room which was not ours Lamps did not work (batteries) and all in all was not a pleasant experience. The stairs leading to our room which was on the top floor were taped in places due to wear and tear which is a safety hazard. There appeared to be two young men doing the cleaning, perfectly pleasant but needed training in my view. Could not wait to get home. Really am due to REFUND

Very handy for the ferry and town centre. The room I had was extremely compact with the only hanging space being a coat hanger at the window. The best use of the space available had been made and everything was clean and the bed was comfy.

Decor a little tired

Location is fantastic; extremely near station, ferries, shops and cafes and on the flat, making movement of luggage easy. Continental breakfasts very good value at £8.50. Manageress very pleasant and chatty.

Țhe small, single room was adequate in other ways, but had no drawers or wardrobe space, just four hangers. It was explained to me that most people stay only a night or two, but I was there for 5 nights and like to be able to unpack clothes. The impersonal check-in, leaving named envelopes on a table, works fine, but means one gets no help with luggage upstairs to the bedrooms.

Went to the Klevin for a night out. Only to have booked for next year. Sheena and Shaun were absolutely amazing and let me stay the night. Couldn't have been more helpful. Room was absolutely amazing. Would 100% recommend.

We were on the third floor which we had to access by two flights of stairs! No lift. While the bed linen and towels were clean. The blind on the window was coated in dust! the Water pressure from the tap was non existent and the pressure for the shower was poor. The bedroom door didn't lock properly we put chair against it for our overnight stay. The room was nothing like the one shown on the website.

We didn't purchase the breakfast because it seemed minimal and overpriced. The location was good for accessing city center.

We arrived before the official check-in time of 3pm, so wanted to leave our bags at the hotel for 1.5 hours while we explored Oban. But there was no reception desk and we could not find a single person to ask about storing our luggage until check-in time. Once we got into our room we were surprised that our view was of a junky lot. When reserving the room thru booking.com, I specifically requested a harbor view, and was notified that my request had been granted. Yet obviously it was NOT granted, which was quite a disappointment.

Wow! Got here to find I had made a booking fumble and there was 'no room at the inn'. Sheena, the owner, said that she wouldn't see us without a bed for the night and, when finding out we'd been sleeping in a camper in the Outer Hebrides for the last 10 days, said, I do have something that you could have a look at. It's a little chalet in the garden but we are so tired and so grateful, we accepted. Actually its a really quirky , cute little little annexe that will do us perfectly. Thank you Sheena. You saved us hunting around and we are happy.
