The Paradise Dambulla

Weitläufiger Garten mit schöner Tierwelt, wir haben zwei Affenarten zu Gesicht bekommen, Pfauen.

Der Aufenthalt war eher anstrengend. Das Hotel ist recht abgelegen, nicht ideal zum Sightseeing, nichts in der Nähe, bei Buchung von Ausflügen ist die Location als Abholort ausgeschlossen, zu weit draußen und das Hotel selbst ist nicht gut dafür organisiert. Im Restaurant nur Buffetangebote, mittlere Qualität. Der Pool wenig gepflegt und nicht sauber, kein richtiger Service am Pool. Auch Kleinigkeiten ärgerlich wie z. B. Wasser in 500 ml Flaschen pro Tag, viel zu wenig bei der Hitze. Die Sauberkeit auch im Zimmer dürftig. Insgesamt gute Grundsubstanz aber nicht gut gepflegt.

It's a good place. The staff is also very nice, we were really happy there. The food is also very good. The nice surroundings made it possible to spend a happy time.

Das Personal war sehr zuvorkommend, freundlich und aufmerksam. Alles in Allem stimmt das Preis Leistungsverhältnis wirklich sehr gut! Wenn man in anderen Kommentaren liest dass Essen oder Getränke teurer sind, muss man berücksichtigen dass auch deutlich mehr Personal als in kleineren Hotels beschäftigt wird. Auch wenn vieles schon etwas älter ist, ist es ordentlich und gut in Schuss. Die Frühstücksauswahl war sehr reichhaltig und jeden Tag was anderes dabei, ebenso bekam man ein reichhaltiges Abendbuffet zu einem fairen Preis. Neben dem Personal, das immer ein Lächeln bereit hatte war unser Highlight die vielen Tiere auf dem Gelände und der riesige Pool.

Eigentlich nichts. Früher gab es augenscheinlich einen Hochseilgarten auf dem Gelände, hier sieht man noch die Überreste, das stört die ansonsten ordentliche Optik und könnte man mal beseitigen.

De kamers van het hotel waren een soort bungalows met bedden. Sommige twee onder een kap en sommige in een rijtje. Het gaf een beetje een safari-vibe. Het zwembad was echt heel groot. Bij het zwembad kreeg je grote strandlakens. Het ontbijtbuffet was zeer uitgebreid.

De kamers waren wat gedateerd. Verder ligt het best afgelegen. Het duurde zeker vijftien minuten met de bus van onze privéchauffeur, voordat je bij een restaurantje was. Bij aankomst wilden we nog lunchen en kozen a la carte. De prijzen waren hoog en de kwaliteit was niet wat we gewend waren van de eerste weken van onze rondreis door Sri Lanka.

La stanza molto grande e accogliente. Struttura molto bella. Ottima cena con circa 10€ a persona. Personale molto gentile.

Da migliorare un po' la manutenzione e pulizia, ma buona per gli standard dello Sri Lanka non paragonabile agli standard europei. Attenti alle scimmiette nel parco, ma non danno fastidio.

Prachtige ligging, echt in de natuur tussen de pauwen, aapjes,... Het personeel is heel vriendelijk. Mooi groot zwembad, aangenaam. Lekker eten en veel keuze, het ontbijt is fantastisch. Ruime kamer met een terras.

Ik had een massage geboekt maar die zou ik niet aanraden. Het was zeer koud in de ruimte en de masseur was niet vriendelijk of zachtaardig.

A személyzet nagyon kedves és segítőkész, minden óhajunk azonnal teljesült. Van mosodai szolgáltatás ami nagyon hasznos volt.

Az ételek szerintem lehetnének kicsit jobbak, de teljesen elfogadhatóak . Kicsit talán messze van a mellette lévő városoktól ha programozni akarsz este .

Nothing special

We hebben ontzettend genoten van ons verblijf. Ruime kamers, groot zwembad, goed en betaalbaar eten (zowel van de kaart als het buffet) en het personeel is echt ontzettend vriendelijk. Ze staan met alles voor je klaar en altijd met een glimlach. Ze hebben voor ons de safari geregeld naar Minneriya Nationaal Park wat echt een aanrader is!

Wat kleine dingen. Sommige handdoeken bij het zwembad zijn aan vernieuwing toe, de sportruimte en de wc daarnaast is toe aan een opknapbeurt.

Pool was good. Buffet was also good. Located close to main sites.

The hot water stopped on one of the nights. The service at the bar and the pool was very slow The decor is very outdated and needs updating. The driver accommodation was not up to standard and this should be improved.

Vergaande glorie. Geen 7 waard hoge score door vroegere beoordeling!! Wij zijn nu 2 weken op reis door Srilanka en hadden hoge verwachtingen gezien de reviews echter was dit verreweg het minste verblijf.

Eten van de kaart kon, echter was niets beschikbaar. Mayo dat al was gebruikt werd op tafel gezet. Voorgerecht werd het nagerecht enzovoort. Kamers prachtig groot maar echt aan een opknapbeurt toe. Kakkerlak in de badkamer. Veranda verrot. Bar bij het zwembad verlaten zitten een paar jonge binken die geen Engels spreken.

Fantastisch zwembad, goede gym en een uitgebreid ontbijt.

Het hotel/resort heeft onderhoud nodig: in de speeltuin voor de kinderen zijn toestellen (oa de zipline) stuk en de toiletten bij de gym/het zwembad zijn verre van 5 sterren waardig. Ook had onze kamer ooit een buitendouche, maar die is inmiddels begroeid met lokale planten en niet meer te gebruiken.

One of our best stays in Sri Lanka. The staff is amazing and they always greet you with a wide smile. Make sure you book the room with dinner and breakfast included as you’ll have to go all the way to Sigiriya (20 min from dambulla) to have dinner. We found it easier to stay back and have dinner buffet at the property itself.

The hotel is in a very nice area, a bit far away from the main village. The room was clean and quiet, unlike what many reviews say. The breakfast buffet was good, but not memorable. The hotel was very busy with a large group of travellers. If it wasn't for Niroshaan, however, our stay would have been disastrous. He took good care of us after some initial problems. He's been the star of our stay, and did what he could to make up for the issues caused to us.

I'm giving 9/10 as the hotel overbooked and initially lied to us. Unfortunately, they initially tried to scam us by claiming our payment didn't go through, that they were cancelling our reservation due to our fault, and then pressured us to change to a lower-category room. This is 1) against booking.com TOS; 2) caused major inconvenience, and forced me first to call my bank and booking.com (both denied my card was the problem), double check my credit card was working correctly, book another hotel as a backup, argue with the property, all just a few days before departure, and far away from home. Ultimately, after a lot of arguing, the hotel managed to find us a room. We found out they simply overbooked. However, I'd expect that if I didn't argue, our treatment would have been very bad. Only after insisting, and writing them bad reviews, they changed attitude. This is not how a fine establishment should operate, and I do hope the team in charge of managing bookings will improve: they should not lie to customers.

Hotel transferred us to another property due to an overbooking situation, but they have done it very well. New hotel is also given a great experience.

Amazing hospitality and a very relaxing environment. The hotel is located in a calm and scenic area which makes it perfect for a peaceful getaway. The rooms were clean and comfortable, and the facilities were well maintained. Special thanks to the staff for their warm and attentive service. We truly enjoyed our stay and would love to come back again.

I missed the opportunity to stay here during my previous trip, but this time I finally experienced Occidental Paradise Dambulla. It was a wonderful stay from start to finish. The environment is peaceful, the rooms are spacious and clean, and the staff provide excellent service. The buffet was also very good with plenty of options. I’m glad I finally got the chance to stay here.

The location and the atmosphere created by the resort

The maintenance of the rooms. They changed our room but both had similar problems. Bathroom showers are moldy, towels old, wardrobe doors do not open, TV remotes missing pieces, windows and curtains not cleaned in ages, didn't have hot water until we reported and got the rooms changed.

All of the staff were very friendly, particularly the restaurant staff Mr Rasika, Thanuja, Dananjaya, Nawoda and Isan. Nice big room, comfy bed and nice pool area.

Food was nice and staff were very nice and helpful.

For a four star hotel the rooms are not very good, leaky and old. I think the hotel generally needs renovations and maintenance.

Travel with my family and we booked 03 separate bookings. Due to some reason hotel couldn't accommodate us. But they have arranged another resort for our stay and that was perfect. Both properties handle the situation in a professional manner.

Unfortunately, we were stayed in another property. But the hotel made the arrangements perfectly. everything was perfect.

De kamer was supergroot en comfortabel. Het personeel was erg vriendelijk en behulpzaam. Slapen tussen de apen en andere wilde dieren was erg bijzonder.

Er zat een deur tussen onze kamer en die naast ons, dit was gehorig.

The pool was nice, the buffet was enjoyable, and the property itself is very large and spacious. The chalets have a nice layout and potential.

Unfortunately, the chalets feel quite old and in need of refurbishment. The smart lighting system was frustrating to use and would be better removed altogether. The wooden floorboards in the bathroom were old, mouldy, and even crumbling. The TV was very small, and for the price, a smart TV should really be standard.

Occidental Paradise Dambulla is far from being a true 5-star hotel, especially by Sri Lankan standards. The rooms are spacious, which is a plus, but there is definitely room for improvement when it comes to cleanliness. The same goes for the staff organization. While the reception team is very kind, friendly, and helpful, the rest of the staff felt a bit disorganized. We had an issue with the laundry service: we left a few clothes to be cleaned and almost left the hotel without them. We were told they would be delivered to our room in the afternoon, but when we returned in the evening, they were nowhere to be found. The reception staff had to make several calls to locate them, which was a bit stressful. On the positive side, the food at the restaurant is very good and diverse, both for breakfast and dinner. There are plenty of options, and I highly recommend trying the dinner buffet, especially if you want to taste local Sri Lankan dishes — it’s worth it. We stayed here for two nights and overall we felt good, but we believe some small improvements could really make a difference. Also worth mentioning: the swimming pool is large, clean, and very enjoyable.

The location was nice and secluded. Ambience was very relaxing and perfect for a couples getaway.

We stayed for two nights. The staff is very kind and helpful. They looked after us very well with a personalised attention. Environment is very calm and relaxing. Lot of trees, with a adjacent lake too. Fine weather, not hot. Food was good. Staff was friendly and helpful to make customized items as well, when we had needs for kids. Were the hotels located . Facilities were great . staff were friendly and Helpful.

The cottages are spacious. The pool and the green surroundings are great. The staff was very friendly and solved problems quickly. The English level was sometimes questionable.

The communication was difficult. I wrote many times and my request was still not met upon our arrival. They then found a workable solution. The Aircon upstairs was not working and they gave us an additional room. When we arrived at the car park, there was rubbish everywhere. While waiting during checkin, I used the public toilet and it was dirty and smelly.

We stayed at Occidental Paradise for one night and we were pleasantly surprised with the service of the staff and location. We had a quite good spread as Breakfast and Dinner options and food were tasty as well. We got a room upgrade for 3 of our rooms and management was nice enough to arrange all our requests quickly. We also enjoyed the complementary Spa treatment per room and pool facilities. Would recommend Occidental Paradise to anyone interested and would definitely check out other hotels from the management as well.

This is a hidden gem in Dambulla, very close to major attractions and the other well known hotels. Food was amazing, in room dining experience was great. We enjoyed the environment a lot

Most of the kids activities were closed including the zip line, rock wall and high ropes which our kids were looking forward to. The road to hotel is also in very poor condition. Both were impacted by recent heavy rains and may not have had time to be fixed which we understand.

Very overpriced for a hotel that is in need for maintenance and refresh. Our biggest issue was that the electricity kept falling out, also in the middle of the night. When that happened a big emergency light in the rooms would turn on. It happened two nights at 4.40 in the middle of the night and once again at 5.00 - the whole family was wide awake. When we called reception they said ‘they knew’. The next mornings no reference was made by the team. The staff is generally really sweet and nice, though sometimes a bit much. It is not possible to enjoy a meal without having 4-5 ppl from the staff come with long lists of questions. Of course meaning well, but this is sometimes a bit much. The rooms need a thorough clean. It seems like they only get quick updates or they don’t have the right cleaning material. The showers hardly worked due to the extreme amount of chalk, so we used the hand shower. The bathroom had many chalk and mouldy stains. A lot of the roofs had plastic on top. I moved the bedside table as we lost an earplug. Under it were many dead bugs, swept underneath. The bed had several stains when we arrived. The gym was very outdated and the AC did not work there. The security guy also could not get it on. The machines need a good clean, they are sticky. As for the food they offer buffets both for breakfast and diner. It is nice that they vary in the evenings. We mostly tried local food which was nice. But in general this also needs a ‘2025/2026 update’. For example plant based milk options for coffee, fruits like pineapple, plant based yoghurt, a bit more healthy food options. It is better to have a littles less options but all of them are really good. Right now they relay heavily on sausages, bacon or Sri Lankan curries. We went to a 3 star after and it was so much better than this 5 star location.

Resorten ligger vackert avskilt i djungeln. Fint poolområde. Vi hade 15 min spamassage och middag inkluderat i priset. Mycket vänlig personal. Rent och fräscht rum, bra AC och stort badrum med dubbla handfat.

Massagen var inte bra. Kladdade mest ner med olja hipp som happ, inte utbildade massörer. Var lite oförstående att middagen ingick i vår bokning men de löste det snyggt och var inga problem när jag visade bekräftelsen från Booking.
