Provider-sourced guest reviews.
Excellent varity of food served at dinner and a very good breakfast in every way. Serving staff could not have been better. Comfortable bed, Very pleasant leisure club.
Cranky lift -needs updating. Bottled water not replaced daily. TV for a caravan not a hotel room. The room was exceptionally hot without any noticeable heating source ? Some decorating needs - peeling wallpaperin dining room - peeling paaint onwindowsills outside dining room.
Lovely grounds, excellent location, very friendly and helpful chap at the bar who took our food order and went out of his way to make sure we were happy with our table considering there was live singing which we in fact enjoyed very much.
Nothing
Close to town, nice staff and outside sitting area lovely, breakfast good and bar meal was also good.
Location. Comfort and room. Helpful, friendly staff. Good food.
Food serving times slightly restrictive in that we needed to be out by 8.00 am one morning and therefore were unable to have breakfast before leaving.
Our room was fantastic. We got an upgrade I dont know why, and we had the most beautiful view. The room was super and I am so grateful
nothing
Good location. Decent choice for breakfast but no fish option. Service was good. Nice to have swimming pool and spa.
Hotel very tired and in need of updating and renovation. Patio and garden areas in need of smartening up, could be made into nice sitting areas.
The room had been described as at the back of the hotel but actually had a sea view from a side window and pleasant trees outside, so exceeded our expectations. The breakfast was excellent and set us up nicely for the day's walking. The staff were also very helpful in letting us store our next day's lunch in the hotel fridge overnight. We also enjoyed sitting in the garden in the evening.
The lighting in the room was a bit gloomy, perhaps, but this was not a major issue for us.
We had a large room, with large ensuite. The evening meal we had was very tasty. Breakfast was OK
Times up for the Northfield hotel. It may have a smart website but that is where the good impression ends. There is no quality in this establishment. It requires a total redecoration and interior design make over. We paid £449 for 2 nights B&B. Staffing levels were patchy over our stay. Evening meal is only available from 6.30pm to 8pm and breakfast from 8am to 9.30am.

The room was very comfortable and spacious.

Staff very friendly and helpful peaceful location
Food not up to standard breakfast buffet chaotic Bedrooms a bit tired
The location was good, a swimming pool nice to have access to. Friendly staff and nice breakfast. Comfortable room with a great view.
Slightly dated but still nice.
We had decided to eat both breakfast and the evening meal there and overall the food was very good. There was plenty of parking spaces which is always a good point. It was close to the beach areas and the main tourist road in town.
The room was above the kitchen so we had excess heat. It was not clean with dust even on the kettle as we arrived. We found wood shavings on one of the bedside tables and bits on the floor. Supposedly some of the furniture was to be upgraded and we got a phone call stating it would be done the second day. We removed our clothing back into cases to be prepared. It was not done until our third day. They replaced old pine furniture with old dark wood items. This also reduced the number of drawers to place clothing in and we ended up living mainly from suitcases. To be honest I cannot figure out why they changed it. It looked like they got a job lot from a second hand dealer which ended up making the room look ridiculous with a mixture of styles from pine to dark wood. The room never seemed to be cleaned with bits left on the floor. I decided on a test. I put a small piece of silver wrapping near one of the seats and a square piece of the supplied white coffee packets just under the bedside table. In two days of housekeeping they obviously did not notice it. The sink drained so slowly as to make it impossible to have been cleaned by the staff else they would have had it fixed. Whoever is in charge of the room cleaning is a total failure and staff must be unsupervised. Normally staff tend to straighten sheets and pillows when doing a room but it was obvious that they pulled the duvet straight over the crumpled sheet and the pillows were never touched. One electrical socket was moving on the wall which made it unsafe. I guess after I told the staff I was unhappy about the misinformation about the furniture swap I believed that they really was not concerned with complaints so never bothered after that. We spent most of the time away from the hotel anyway. We will never return and would never dream of recommending this place to anyone. When handing in the key you normally get asked whether you enjoyed your stay. I can guess why they do not bother to do that.
Excellant selection of food
The room above the swimming pool was noisy in the morning and very hot
Homely.
In dire need of renovation.
The Northfield is a beautiful grand building which sits in well landscaped large gardens. The hotel is situated very close to the beach which can be accessed by a walk down through the garden. Magical. The staff were amazing and nothing too much trouble. Food was excellent value. I had a superior room so had a sea view - exceptional. Clean and comfortable. Although a little TLC may be needed it didn't detract from the quality of my stay. Thoroughly enjoyed my stay here and would recommend this lovely hotel.

The cooked Breakfast was very good. Limited selection of cereals and fruits. Bedding and bathroom very good.
The whole place is worn and could easily be cleaner .
It was a very clean property.
I booked a double room there were 2 single beds, I thought I was having scampi and chips Saturday it was scampi and fries, carvery on Sunday was not worth £20, a little bit of pork full of fat, no Yorkshire puddings or mashed potatoes, had better for cheaper elsewhere, not a very good selection of drinks at the bar, ashtrays were full of fag nips and not cleaned much, woman was rushed off her feet back and fore reception and bar, so a long wait to get served, got stuck in a lift, bell didn’t work had to bang door, hotel staff leave at 10 so if it was after that would of been in there over night, not the best of locations.
Attentive and friendly staff High standard of cleanliness and comfort Very good value
Nothing I did not like
Staff, location and car parking. Walking distance to beach, lovely park with cafe and local high street
Some furniture was worn, the view from the window in front of room was of the roof and window frames were dusty
The staff are wonderful. Helpful, friendly, caring. What more could you ask.
Nothing particularly. It was great!
quietness

Wonderful attentive staff, who really seemed passionate about guest experience. . Beds super comfy and we lived the pool and Jacuzzi Excellent location , delicious food.
A little tired in places, but know they are renovating several rooms.
Northfield has for some time been the best hotel in Minehead - and it is now also the best place to eat. Set in its own mature gardens on a hill looking out onto the Bristol Channel, but a short walk from the promenade and the town centre, Northfield Hotel is the best surviving of the 'grand hotels' from Minehead's heyday. Easy access to the South West Coast Path with circular walks past the harbour and up on to North Hill before heading back through the old town. It also has ample parking, which is a distinct advantage in Minehead. We have eaten at the hotel before, but it seems to have upped its game and now offers what is probably the best dinner in Minehead and at a very competitive price. Excellent breakfast too.
Nothing serious. It is an old hotel requiring lots of maintenance, so don't expect it to be pristine in every nook. But, having said that, our room was elegant and very comfortable.
This is a lovely hotel near the town centre of Minehead. The room was very clean and had lovely views over the Bristol Channel. Another nice thing is that it has a large car park and a lovely large garden in which we sat in the evening.
The hotel is Victorian with large gardens and less than 10 minutes walk from both the town and beach. It has an old fashioned feel with friendly staff and good service. Food was good with the dinner menu changing each night. The room was spacious, quiet and clean. Minehead is well positioned for visiting Exmoor, Dunster Castle, Lynmouth, Watersmeet and the Valley of the Rocks. Overall a good place to stay for a short break.
Location and pleasant and friendly staff
Very old and in need of serious updating. Extremely hot which was very uncomfortable.
Superb breakfast. Very dog friendly hotel. Lovely garden and patio.
Maybe a/c in room as quite hot.
The breakfast was very good, choice, catering for all taste and health options.
It was all good. There was nothing we didn't like.
The rooms are in very poor decor, our room marketed as a 'superior room' was right at the end of a long corridor with rotten window frames, windows that didn't open more than an inch,, stained carpet, marks on the walls, mismatched furniture with knob missing from wardrobe door, bath towel with a large stain on it, the television had been left in audio description mode and subtitles which rendered it irritatingly unwatchable. A serviette from previous room occupant was left in the room our entire stay, drinking water in the room was not replenished, it was exceptionally hot in the room with just one fan which had dirty and dusty blades to try and keep cool. We stayed half board, one of us having a food intolerance which had been emailed and discussed in advance of our stay, but each evening after having been allocated a table for our entire stay, a bread roll was already placed on the table, as though no attention paid to being advised of an allergy/intolerance, if the allergy reaction was extreme, this could have provoked a bad situation. Food was mainly lukewarm on arrival to the table, and breakfasts despite asking each day for soft yolks, arrived dried up. At breakfast, a lot of items were not replenished by staff such as fruit and juice, so you need to be quick! The cost of the stay was not reflective of the standard of the room/food in my opinion.
Staff and location were excellent
The hotel is a beautiful building in a lovely location,BUT it is in need of a really good clean and a lick of paint. We had water coming through our bedroom ceiling...we expected to be moved ,but that wasnt forthcoming. The breakfast was poor-cold and not very appetising.
It was very spacious and the rooms were very clean.

The wonderful welcome I received when arriving at the Hotel reception desk. Also the fast service and friendly conversation whilst being served at the bar as I tend to be rather shy . The pool was also much appreciated after a walk along the harbour. Would like to stay there again.
Nothing. All good.
Super nice place. Very friendly staff and really nice rooms. Comfortable bed. Clean and fresh.
Spacious room with king size bed. Good selection of refreshments. Situated up a side street with sea views. Swimming pool and sauna available. Free parking.
The cooked breakfast was not of a high standard. The continental aspect was ok.
L emplacement
L état délabré. Le prix, trop élevé.
The bed was comfortable and the bedroom was well equipped. The staff were also very friendly.
It would have been great to have a couple more offerings of tea I.e. camomile or green. Breakfast being served earlier than 8am would also have been a bonus though there was an option to see if a roll would be possible slightly earlier which is good!
Large bedroom and bathroom. Amazing views. Friendly, attentive staff. Location, easy walking distance to pubs and restaurants etc.
Some furniture dated and signs of wear. Some parts of hotel had been refurbished, so maybe more to follow.
Nice, friendly staff, nice breakfast, good size room, decent facilities.
The cleanliness around the pool area was poor. Yes, the decor was a little tired in some areas, but there's no excuse for not having clean doors, floors, walls, etc.
Fantastic location, wonderful views, friendly and helpful staff, clean room, linen and towels. Rooms need updating and some furniture replacing.
very run down and could do with a good clean . came for my husbands birthday so was quite disappointed. the staff were only interested in their 80th birthday fete !! at breakfast on the sunday that we left they messed up the tables and asked if we would sit in the bar!! no thanks, the gardens were completely inaccessible for me with my mobility scooter as i cant walk far, we wont be returning
The breakfast was lovely, plenty to have. It was nice to have the tables allocated to your room.
The only thing I didn’t like was the bed was quite lumpy, couldn’t get comfortable.
Beautiful place
Going home to work
Lovely hotel bit dated but they are doing an upgrade I heard, my shower didn't work so had to go to my sisters to shower rather than use the pool shower as the lockers etc in there are a little rusty and changing rooms not the best I would definitely come back again once it's been updated. Food and staff were lovely and the views were too
Lovely hotel, accommodating staff and good breakfast.
All was good.
Location great, dining rooms beautiful and bedrooms have supportive beds and comfortable with heaters and fans supplied. Lounge relaxed. Smoking facilities under cover on terrace if you want it. Lift to upper floors. Staff relaxed and helpful. Towels and bathroom sundries supplied. Coffee and tea in each room with a daily turndown service. Breakfast generous and cooked well. Dinner 4 courses right amount and cheese & biscuits a lovely extra, very affordable. All in all break away was wonderful with spa an added bonus. Very good value with breakfast included. Will return.
Bit dusty in some places that weren't a problem for us. Such a big building that you can understand the issue. Nothing to complain about.
Location close to high street and beaches
We booked 5 specific rooms but reception was closed on Arrival and team were not very comfortable to fulfill our room allocation. We were in group but landed at different floors.
Bed was comfortable and staff friendly. Hotel in lovely surroundings
Hotel looked very "tired", in need of tlc. Stair surrounds and carpets not clean. Breakfast ok, no fresh fruit and restricted times, not suitable for a work stay.
Location
Pool changing rooms need an upgrade and lockers rusty
Everything😀😀😀😀
More hot chocolate please😀😀😀
The Staff were very pleasant and obliging The garden was lovely and a bonus to have a garden gate to shorten the journey into town
The Hotel is very tired and dated. There was evidence of water ingress in several places . However. there is Some beautiful period detailing and this could be hi lighted better. William Morris wallpaper would be perfect!
Great location, staff very professional, helpful and friendly. Food was great, room comfortable and clean.
We've spent holidays here for more years than I can remember. I must have done previous reviews but I felt it was time to update The reviews title is what the previous manager used to say - that people return again and again - and which it may have changed a bit over time years I you'd say he was right Over the years it has gone from being family owned by the Lawrence family, another private owner and more recently a hotel group. I would say - it's had a few ups and downs but to all their credits - they haven't rushed in to make huge changes to the place which I've seen happen other places. It's still homely and home from home from us every time we arrive. The present owners have updated the reception areas and lounge but sympathetically and the dining room remains as it always was - very traditional, which we like. The rooms are clean and comfy with tremendous views in the front ones over the coast and the moors depending which one you stay in - they are all different and even the basic back rooms without the views are fine - traditional not luxurious - but that's what we like. The food is also fine - maybe a little unimaginative in the evening menu but nicely cooked and served and the breakfasts have got much better on recent stays The staff are all lovely and helpful. One of the reception team have been there since the Mr Henderson's day and it's nice to reminisce The clientele - you would expect to be off an age (there it a little lift - tiny and idiosyncratic but it does the job- put your luggage in and scoot up the stairs to meet it if you can) I would say it's quite mixed really - observed younger couples and a mum and her children and enjoy course the business travellers - the change over time years I think would be the coach parties - all very nice people and we've had some nice chats with them Tip - go through the gardens down the path to a little gate which comes nearly onto the sea front and a nice walk down to the harbour or the other way to the golf club - you can walk down to Dunster this way along the beach. Other nice outings/walks - along Doone Valley via Robbers Bridge to Lorna Doone Farm - nice tea and scones, little birds on time table for company if you encourage them- and walk up Badgeworthy Water from the Farm. Bossington and Selworthy National Trust villages - nice tea rooms in both. And of course Dunster - Luttrell Arms Pub now has a lovely secret garden with a pizza pop up cabin - lovely if you can get up though steps. I could on lots of lovely walks and lovely places on the doorstep. Oh and just one recommendation - a drive (no footpath!)down to Blue Anchor Bay and lunch in the Driftwood Cafe on time front which was lovely I ache to give the Northfield five stars because that's how my husband and I think of it but unfortunately be truthful in this review I have to deduct one - for the cleanliness in the leisure centre which needs a deep clean and a refresh. I love to swim here but this time I noticed - pool filters need cleaning and changing rooms need attention - maintenance and decorating However - Mr Henderson was right - you can't keep em away! I've just booked up for our next stay in September
Welcoming staff. Ample parking. Good food.
By the time of our arrival the restaurant was about to close the kitchen, so we were told that they can't serve us. Understandable, but still. Shower had issues with hot water and their documentation says that boiler is switched off at 11pm. It actually did not, but pressure at 11:05 was so low, that we were not able to have a proper shower. Another member of our group had no problem, as he got a room on lower floor. TL;DR - plumbing needs attention!
All the staff, particularly at breakfast, were exemplary: friendly, polite, helpful and professional. Breakfast was excellent.
Accommodation in general is comfotable but needs updating.
Lovely staff and an easy walk to the sea / town. Everything was clean but just a bit dated and the swimming pool was cold. Food varies - evening meals not great but breakfast is lovely.
We actually loved our stay, the staff were very friendly and helpful, the hotel is a lovely building, but needs a bit of TLC, the bedrooms also nice size, but again needs some updating, the food was very good, evening meal and breakfast, great size swimming pool , would stay again.
The rooms are lovely , I had sea view, quiet well run nice breakfast. Very nice helpful staff very near beach and the high street.
Excellent location with great views over the sea and a lovely garden. The furniture is a little dated but I liked that. The hotel had character and the staff were very friendly.
Unfortunately the heating wasn’t working in the swimming pool so we didn’t have the chance to swim
Locatie is natuurlijk mooi zo dichtbij strand en centrum.
Vergane glorie en vond het menu/ diner tegenvallen, leek wel gaarkeuken, echt zonde!
We loved our stay here, the actual hotel needs a bit of TLC but has great character and stunning gardens. The rooms were good size, but again needs a little TLC, beds very comfortable. The hotel staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful, the food was really good and very reasonable prices. Great swimming pool too. We would definitely stay again.
Nothing to dislike.
Staff were friendly and access to town was good
Hotel was very tired. Hall carpets were badly stained and room needed decorating and attention to details eg the door lock was loose. Not up to the standard expected for the price of £170 per night.
La douche et le lavabo s'écoulaient mal. Hygiène de la douche à revoir. Etant arrivés les derniers en fin de journée on pense qu'on ne nous avait pas attribué la chambre réservée. Petit déjeuner continental insuffisant
Location was brilliant. So relaxing. Breakfast was good.
Unfortunately the bathroom, mainly toilet did not look as though it had been cleaned. Toilet stain in the bowl and overhead shower didn't seem to work. Broken wardrobe handle and previous guests rubbish still in bedside drawers. We overlooked this because of the location. I do think bedrooms could do with upgrading, but a very enjoyable stay
Feel like we were ultimately misled into thinking this hotel was something it wasn’t based on the online pictures. I appreciate the building is old and has character, however the general upkeep of the property is poor and feels unclean. The furniture is falling apart, there were holes in the bedding and tea stains on the cupboards..we had our 1 year old with us so decided to book the nearest premier inn and lost our money. A real shame, as a building that once would’ve been charming and elegant, is looking shabby and unkept. Wouldn’t recommend.
For hikers, the Northfield enjoys an excellent position close to the start of the South West Coast Path. It boasts some great facilities and the staff are really keen to help, but the truth is that it is in need of some TLC from the managers and a good deal of investment from the owners to bring this tired accommodation up to date. The gym facilities are welcome but rather squashed and limited in range and the pool is not very inviting. The breakfast was dull with very few fresh items. It's not expensive though, and so represents reasonable value for money.
The hotel may be a little dated, but it is beautiful none the less! Grounds are nice, it all could do with a little tidy, but still enjoyable. I enjoyed sitting at the garden tables under the parasol with my bible pad & pens, very peaceful
I have nothing bad to say!
Great location, very comfortable bed, room was pleasant. Good tea/coffee making facility, excellent breakfast.
Nothing
An excellent hotel with really good service. It’s a building with character not a new modern build but to us that makes it more interesting. It over looks Minehead with glimpses of the sea and Exmoor hills. Just a short walk through the gardens to the town and beach. Plently of parking space and a lovely pool and gym area which we enjoyed everyday.
Gardens
Dirty, very poor standard
On arrival we were told we had been upgraded. Our room was very impressive and spacious and had everything we needed. We were attending a family wedding in Minehead and the location was excellent. Breakfast was very good and the food selection suited us. Throughout our stay we found to staff to be very friendly and attentive.
We are genius Booking.Com members and understood that any food purchased as an extra would attract a 10% discount. However, on settling our bill there was no discount applied.
Loverly staff, good leisure facilities Amazing gardens Really lovely peaceful location with easy access to Minehead beach and town
Breakfast was good, food is good, staff was friendly, gardens was nice, hotel was lovey
Room was nice, but few things was dusty and bathroom was dusty, I had the suite room, the tables at oak room where we had breakfast was too close together
Great location and a nice walk down to the seafront from the hotel
A little old fashioned, but that was its charm. Good location with great service from all the staff!
Overall appearance of the hotel is good and it's a good location, pool very nice on these hot days.
When you start to look more closely it's very tired in need of some TLC cracked windows and paint peeling off the inside of bathroom door, shower not very powerful. The breakfast was awful, most of the coffee choices from the machine not available, milk had gone off, orange juice tasteless, no iced water. Scrambled egg looked liked it had been scraped of the inside of the pan, pouched egg was dry served on one please of dry toast.
The facilities were really nice spent some time in the jacuzzi, pool and steam room The gardens were amazing and so close to everything you need. The staff were loverly throughout our stay Loverly breakfast perfect for me as I could choose what I wanted.
That we only had one night there I would like to have a full weekend next time Nothing was a wrong it was beautiful
Lovely breakfast especially the poached egg. Well stocked Bar . Large car park .nice garden with plenty of seating.
Nothing
Good food at reasonable prices, Friendly and efficient staff, Location near the town, Free parking and nice room.
The Jacacuzzi was out of order, No real ale on tap, the room was very hot during the heatwave although a fan was provided.
Staff were very helpful and polite
No entertainment and the TV reception was not working all the time
A great Hotel with history and well made interior architect. I loved it, old but with modern facilities in the rooms and dinning room. Staff were excellent, breakfast was perfect. Well recommend.
Staff very helpful. Room needs updating.
Very good place
Like new
Free parking and 2pm check in fab, Cheerful Welcome , several comfy seating and lounge areas off of lobby, bar and restaurant great , enjoyable evening meal and plenty of it . Bright room with a view , Fan in the room needed in the heat wave , crisp fresh linen on bed , comfy bed and pillows . Swimming pool a little bonus .Large gardens , lovely outside seating area . Footpath through gardens leading to seafront a few minutes walk away , easy walk to town , harbour, gardens and seafront . The hotel had an olde- worlde traditional vibe , that felt warm and safe. Staff and guests alike made conversation with one another , cheerful good mornings and friendly chatter filled the gardens and lounge . A peaceful ambience , as if you’d stepped back in time , which made you want to pack away your phone and just enjoy the calm . We both felt very at home.
Only because you asked , The hotel needed a little love in places and maintenance , the garden also a bit of attention . While our room was comfortable it was a little tired and dated . We would have preferred a mug with our coffee/ tea in the room as the tea cup was diddy .

Location to beach and the town centre was great. Lots on the doorstep
A fridge in the room would’ve been nice but other than that it was well maintained and clean.
The property is beautiful very grand, in a great location and the staff are very helpful
The property would benefit from a little up dating the decore is tired looking the bathroom would benefit from an upgrade but still worth a stay
Lage und die Zimmer sehr schön. Wunderschöner Garten und Pool zum entspannen
Great place if you want a chilled break. Staff pleasant and very helpful. Pool and facilities good. Gardens pleasant but could do with a bit of TLC.
Nice location Nice garden Nice staff Wellness facilities
The building is rundown Facilities are left to decay and not kept clean, dust in the filters, smudge on the side of the pool, dirty walls and doors! Why use carpet in a pet friendly room? This hotel would be beautiful if kept clean and repaired!
Close to the town, absolutely gorgeous gardens. Lovely warm feel when you enter.
The foyer and dining room for breakfast were very hot but the room was lovely and cool
Hotel is in a good location, close to town with parking. Very warm welcome. Peaceful atmosphere. Room was a good size, well appointed and clean. Nice private garden screened by large trees.
Incredibly friendly and well informed refeptionist greeted us upon arrival. All staff were lovely. The hotel has a very peaceful vibe to it. Lounge, Bar, Pool, Steam Room, Hot Tub and small Gym available as well as a very private garden screened by large trees. Room was large, clean and well appointed. Beds comfortable. Food was decent and reasonably priced. Car park available. Hotel is a short walk from the sea front and the town.
Spa / pool area was a little run down and dated
Everything went well. The hotel had a wonderful atmosphere with the staff being very friendly and attentive.
Nothing
Just a one night stay. A lovely hotel, with staff who are lovely, Alison on reception was exceptional. This was once, clearly a lovely hotel. It’s now slightly tired and in need of some new investment. We had a double room with a large bathroom with shower. It was very clean, but sadly the decor can’t be sorted by cleaning alone. The furniture is out of place and in need of replacing. The carpets had some stains and at the least, needed a proper clean. The welcome note on the bed said it all really. The bed was comfy and we had a good nights sleep. The bar is friendly and a range of draft beers and spirits all on hand. The pool is great, lovely and warm and the fitness suit quite well fitted out. However, the pool also clearly needs a clean. Breakfast was well cooked and the sausages particularly good. Lots of choice too. Lovely friendly staff, and a fantastic view. Basically the many good reviews say people like it, so who am I to argue! It’s basically lost in time and needs to catch up!
Thankyou too all the staff who made our vist too the northfield hotel 👏 amazing we were made very welcoming and cared for on our vist and our 2 dogs poppy and Bobby enjoyed there sausages for breakfast 😀 definitely will be returning in future many thanks malcolm and jenny.poppy.bobby.
