room service never arrived
We visited Madison for nostalgic reasons. While the city has changed tremendously, The Edgewater was a wonderful "home base" to wander around. We stayed in a Lakeside room (not sure of the exact name). It was wonderful hear the water lapping outside our window. The I was delighted that there was a dresser so I could unpack my suitcase. The bathroom had ample counter space, a lighted make-up mirror and a lovely shower. The restaurant (Statehouse) served a delicious breakfast with excellent service.
Very nice hotel, great services, very clean and I will return again. Also check out their store located in the Edgewater Spa bldg. I found some cute items.
Memorable view! Memorable meals! Nothing but quality, friendly, helpful experiences with everyone at the Edgewater! Made our son and new daughter in law’s wedding an incredible experience!
Unfortunately, our experience at The Edgewater was disappointing from the start. When I called to make our reservation, I was told we needed to pay extra for a room that could accommodate three people—even though the third person was our 1-year-old—and that a crib would be an additional $50 per night. We actually tried to cancel after that interaction, but our reservation was non-refundable, so we went ahead with the stay. When we checked in late Thursday night, another guest called the front desk because the AC in her room was broken. After putting her on hold, the front desk staff and security openly complained about how annoying she was. Shortly afterward, they were also making fun of a DoorDash delivery driver. Neither situation was a huge deal on its own, but hearing staff talk that way about guests and others while we were standing there felt unprofessional and made for an especially poor first impression. From there, we found ourselves noticing all of the little things. We were part of a wedding group, and the general consensus among several people was that the entire experience felt very nickel-and-dimey. For a hotel at this price point, we expected a much higher level of hospitality and service. The Edgewater has a beautiful location, but unfortunately the overall experience did not live up to our expectations, and I would not recommend it to family or friends.
Take full advantage of the Spa. Very relaxing environment and laid well. Patio area overlooking the water is spacious, clean and welcoming!
Beautiful lake view and everything needed (restaurants, bars, spa, plaza, etc) on site.
Ordered special pillow, but it was never delivered.
I travel to Madison twice a year. The Edgewater is where I always stay. 5 stars! I’ve never been disappointed.
Edgewater an uber service place-from valet to head waiter who had nice amentities for our anniversary.A must go to in Madison
Would not recommend or return to this hotel. Services and rooms quality do not fall in line with the cost of the reservation. Management is inappropriate with guests and displayed gestures that were offensive.
This place is truely amazing. Gorgeous property right on the lake and the service is impeccable. We were just passing through for the night on our way to Colorado. I would come back and visit Madison just to stay at this property.
Everything about this hotel is easy and elegant. Very comfortable beds, linens,, rooms, common areas.
Excellent location. Rooms had a fantastic view of both lake and capitol building.
Getting long on the tooth. Needs an updating.
There wasn't an option for zero stars, so I was forced to pick 1 star. I will NEVER stay at this hotel and here's why: we were meeting friends who were guests there, and having dinner at The Statehouse restaurant inside (which is wonderful, separate review). We parked in their self-parking lot building and the lot was very full with open spaces only available on their level #3 and underneath their adjacent building that houses the Boathouse on lake level. (Hotel lobby and street level is actually on level #6; building is on a cliff on the lakefront). The public parking elevators ONLY go down to level #4 (2 levels below street) which means one has to walk across a long tunnel and down the extra 2 level ramps along the way a car drives to actually get to level #6. CRAZY! Even worse, there were NO SIGNS at all directing us how to get to street/lobby level. Unless you are a hotel guest you cannot enter stairs to exit parking since a key card is necessary to open doors. obviously no-one from the hotel staff has ever tried parking in their lot to understand what someone must go through if their lot is crowded to get to street level and the lobby! This should be a no-brainer if this hotel was the least bit interested in customer service. I caution anyone who has the slightest trouble walking up/down many levels of stairs and/or long distances. Even the able-bodied in our group found it nonsensical that there were no signs directing us. We spoke with a front office manager Mr. Ajeel Aziz who was not helpful or understanding at all -- in fact it seemed he was completely unaware one needed hotel key card to enter stairwell in parking lot. His response to us was "we offer valet parking." I understand building being on a cliff presents additional issues but SIGNS are necessary at a minimum! And why not have additional elevators on the Boathouse side that go from lake front level all the way up to street level? I would imagine this absence violates ADA laws at its worst and common sense at a minimum. In addition, there is a $4 per hour charge for parking with NO SIGNS anywhere informing you of this charge amount (should be upon entry to parking!). We found out the amount of charge by asking at front desk. THAT is definitely against consumer protection laws. Extremely poor customer service here on issues that only require common sense.
Comfortable hotel on Lake Mendota near the University. I rarely sleep well my first night in any hotel and I slept like a baby here! The conference facilities were great and the food was awesome!
Booked a last minute weekend in Madison. Room and view were great. Concierge gave us list of experiences in Madison. We left the room to walk and they had live music in the outside courtyard overlooking the lake, we stayed the entire time and enjoyed the music, food and sunset. Walked to the farmers market at the capitol in the morning and grabbed coffee to go at the cafe. Perfect location and hospitality.
If you are in Madison there is old world charm and the power of the Lake to welcome you at Edgewater.
Pretty hotel with amazing views. Repeat guest. But, this go-around, the towels need to be replaced. I could understand late fall to have old or tired towels, but this is travel season. $500 a night, I expect just a bit better. The furniture is also a outdated... a lot of hotels are out dated, so I get it... but it might be time for management to spend some money.
Great location
When I booked I asked for a lake view room. I only got a partial but Niko accommodated us right away ! Thank you
This is a nice traditional hotel on the Lake. We had a good sized room with a comfortable bed and 2 very nice armchairs. The view of the lake was pretty and provided good light into the room. A reasonable size fridge was provided. Very happy with the bathroom and walk in shower. Pleasant toiletries.
We had chosen a terrace which was a little disappointing but then we saw the bugs and realised we wouldn't sit out anyway. Whilst the staff were great, the State House restaurant wasn't very good.
Location. History. Views.
Expensive
The location on the lake ,which you will have at other hotels.
For the price and the rating,it was not as expected and never had this experience at any other hotel The Makup mirror was not working, they sent a maintenance man to fix it , I informed him the the coffee machine was not working, he checked and told me yes but was not his job and I had to inform housekeeping and they brought another one and never took the broken one , So I had some extra broken coffee machine all my stay. I left my EarPods under the pillow and I am glad I found them that night at the same place under the pillow even the bed was done They don’t pay attention to details so the location is nice But maybe they don’t check the rooms to discover what is not working and maybe they just cover the bed and they said it was done.
Evident that the entire staff is trained to try and do their best. Very polite and professional. Appreciated very much.
The hotel was very nice.
The price and then additional charges for parking and the $75 fee upon check in. I think that should be all inclusive while paying for the room itself.
Great downtown location! Walking distance to restaurants, grocery stores, local Saturday farmer's market, and the university.
Excellent view of the lake - enjoyed our stay. Room was fantastic Looking forward to re-visiting at some point in the future.
Stayed here to tour UW campus. Beautiful location. Our view of the lake was gorgeous. Comfy beds. Close enough to walk to town. Loved the quiet and everyone was so friendly.
We were placed in the older hotel/wing. When it was time to check out I found out that I would have to climb 2 stories of steps to check out. All doors in the new wing/building that would allowed access to an elevator were Locked! I have a poorly functioning knee replacement and a hip that needs surgery. There was no one available when I called the front desk to open the doors and this was at 8:00 am😡
An amazing stay as always . The views and sitting by the lake were fantastic and relaxing. We will be back !!!
The Edgewater is spectacularly situated with beautiful views and a stunning situated terrace overlooking the lake. The hotel is well appointed and rooms are clean and very comfortable, with spacious bathrooms and good showers. In our room the bath plug didn't work. Unfortunately, although the staff are friendly, they are poorly trained and service was disappointing. Our room service order was incorrect and we were overcharged for the error the hotel made in the order. The 'pool' is actually a very hot small pool area, heated to a sweltering 95 degrees so it's quite uncomfortable to be there for any length of time. It's also not made clear on the website that the pool is a relaxation pool, not a lap pool.
Edgewater Hotel is beautiful with amazing views and amenities. I highly recommend if you are visiting Madison Wisconsin
We stayed in a Premium Lakefront King room with floor to ceiling windows looking out over the lake--stunning! There were even doors that opened onto a Juliet balcony. There are less pricey room options, but in this case it was a special occasion for us so we splurged. We were not disappointed. Next time we'll opt for a room in the original Art Deco building as it was gorgeous. Our massages at the spa were fantastic--some of the best we've ever had. Again, there were less pricey options around time, but the onsite spa was convenient and unique. The hotel is close to everything with many nearby sites even walkable.
Visited for a birthday. The resort and other fees added 30% on top of the listed room cost. The automated gratuity at the spa was disappointing as well since the massage was one of the worst I had ever had. Statehouse meal was just okay, however not at all worth the price. Too many other good restaurants in the city. Personally would never return.
The view from our room was gorgeous. We visited during winter and our room overlooked the lake where we could see everyone ice fishing!
N/A
The room was very well appointed with desk, comfortable relaxing chairs and well appointed wash room. The location was great for us as and being able to relax by the lake was a bonus.
The staff from the initial arrival through the complete experience - breakfast and the evening meal were friendly and welcoming. A truly great and enjoyable time
Amazing place. No complaints. Can’t wait to come here again! Food was amazing, drinks were even better. Such a great place to come to relax and not even feel like you’re in a hotel. Felt like I was right at home.
We had a lovely stay at the Edgewater. My son was getting married there over the weekend and the wedding staff was extremely helpful and attentive and the food for the event was amazing!
If you’re looking for a fun little getaway, Madison is the perfect spot! We arrived Saturday afternoon and spent some time exploring downtown, which is easily walkable from The Edgewater—or, if you prefer, they offer a complimentary black car service. Saturday afternoon and evening were delightful (places recommended by the staff at Edgewater), and Sunday was pure relaxation with the amazing spa services. We spent the day lounging in the relaxation pool and ordering food in the relaxation room—it was heavenly! Highly recommend for a rejuvenating escape.
Location and staff are excellent
Overall an excellent experience was provided the Edgewater. Would most definitely stay here again. I would recommend this place to anyone.
Great location. It was close enough from the Madison Airport to get a ride by a ride app. Excellent service. Staffs were very attentive and had the old hotel manners that most hotels don't have anymore. Wel-lmaintain old, but very charming building and the room that we stayed in was clean and comfortable.
They have the great old hotel manners that most of hotels nowadays don't have. Everything was impeccable. Thank you for treating us, like your guests.
Super disappointed in this hotel. I was traveling with a large family (5 younger kids) that required adjoining rooms. I proactively called to ensure they had adjoining rooms and that I was booking the correct 2 rooms. Immediately after booking the rooms through my points, the staff member did a complete flip flop, stated she could not accommodate the adjoining room request. The booking was non-refundable so they refused to refund even as this was immediately discovered. I called back and spoke to the manager. He couldn’t do “anything”. Couldn’t cancel. Couldn’t accommodate adjoining rooms. Wouldn’t discount an upgrade. Cancelling trip and out all our $/points. EXTREMELY disappointed.
I actually have not stayed there yet, but I have a reservation for May. Because I have difficulty standing, I need a shower chair or stool in order to take a shower. They do not have ANY available. The only thing they have is a handicap accessible room. Those are designed for people with wheelchairs, which I do not need. If one does not have a wheelchair, handicap accessible rooms are extremely inconvenient, because essentially taking a shower floods the entire bathroom. I have stayed in hotels, all around the world, from small to large and from moderate to expensive. They almost always have a shower chair or stool. For a hotel this relatively expensive, I consider this unacceptable. I realize this specific issue is not relevant to most people, but I think it’s indicative of the quality of service.
The Edgewater is truly an oasis. We felt like we were on a vacation rather than just at a hotel for a stay. The accommodations were luxurious and the staff is extremely attentive.
We had a very quiet room overlooking the lake on the 11th floor. Will go back for our next anniversary.
Visiting from Seattle. Pure class. Quiet hotel. Top-notch staff. Close to the Overture Center for the Arts.
Lake view
Ice skating rink was closed even when weather was freezing temp
The edgewater hotel was A perfect location to stay when visiting the university of Wisconsin. It is a gem that has everything we needed for our short trip. Dreamy views, gym, delicious food and a super comfortable bed.
Thie place was great for the weekend on vacation, and for a couple. We did the SPA, Statehouse restaurant and Bar area. The Bed very comfortable and Breakfast was great, clean room very nice, very quiet absence of sound, noise or disturbance very peaceful stay at this hotel. If you go to this hotel, get a room overlooking water view , the most beautiful thing to see.
Many service related issues and some food issues Valet Parking was not present and parking garage and two buildings were confusing
The bed was stiff and we barely slept. We would have loved to view the lake but instead our windows looked directly into a frat house window and we had to close the curtains the whole time.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Outstanding Stay at The Edgewater Hotel Everything about my stay at The Edgewater Hotel was absolutely excellent. From the moment I checked in to the time I checked out, the entire experience was seamless and welcoming. The room was beautiful, comfortable, and well-appointed. Check-in and check-out were smooth and efficient, making the whole stay stress-free. A special shout-out to Augie’s Tavern — my steaks were cooked to perfection and absolutely delicious. The bartenders delivered fantastic service and made the experience even better. The shuttle service was also excellent — convenient, reliable, and a great added touch. And Craig at the front desk truly stood out with his exceptional service and professionalism. I would stay here again in a heartbeat. Highly recommend
I liked the property’s location and the amenities inside the hotel. The weather was bad so it was good to have good restaurants etc
Nothing
This hotel was great, in a lovely location & many amenities offered. I only gave 4 stars as we paid extra for a spa service that was not rendered, a bit disappointing especially when we splurge for self care once/year & it was a disappointing experience. Hotel is above & beyond standards otherwise!
Staff is very kind and professional and location is convenient and pretty (on the lake). Rooms are clean. Rates are high for what it is, comparable to other places in the area. There isn't a pool outside of the spa and spa prices are high for Madison, too. I booked erroneously under the wrong rate (totally my fault) but wasn't able to cancel as it was within 24-hours and they couldn't make any adjustments to figure out a half-way solution- so not super accomodating management.
Food at Statehouse was excellent! Coffee shop is good too and so nice to have on property.
Wanted to try something other then a chain Hotel. This place was awesome and excessed expebtations. Staff was friendly and helpful when asked questions about the Hotel and surrounding area.
The room was beautiful and spacious.
There was an odor of fried food every time we entered the lobby.
Great anniversary getaway at the Edgewater! Amazing rooms and great personal service!!! I definitely recommend!
Room was dingy, drapes stained, food was marginal and service well below par. This used to be a great hotel, let's hope it becomes ont again.
Very upscale beautiful resort. Service was outstanding along with all communications. Would definitely stay here again.
We stayed for a night (just to get away) with the kiddos. The experience was amazing. From the food at the Statehouse restaurant to the ice skating to the view and comfy room. We would recommend this place 1000x over!!!
Beautiful hotel for a cozy winter staycay! We enjoyed time at the spa, breakfast and dinner with the beautiful lake views at the cozy restaurant with excellent service, and comfy rooms with a beautiful view of the lake. It was very cold in Madison, but we were very cozy inside this lovely hotel.
There’s no doubt that the city of Madison is a pretty cool place with the lakes, the state capital and the university. Fortunately, the city has a beautiful, lakefront hotel property that encompasses all of those attributes with the Edgewater. We went to Wisconsin for a Packer game and are really glad we had the opportunity to stay in Madison at the Edgewater. The property is all decked out for Christmas and the vibe was great in the bar and restaurant. The staff is “over the top” accommodating and welcoming. Every great city should have a great - non chain- classy hotel like this.
The service was great; the view was nice. I appreciated the ability to open the windows. The room was very comfortable.
We love to stay at The Edgewater! We have a student at UW-Madison and have enjoyed many stays at this beautiful hotel. The rooms are great, Augie's Tavern is awesome (especially after a football game), the location can't be beat and the view is wonderful. I would like to give a shoutout to Jess at registration - who helped us out of a bind. She is an amazing ambassador for the hotel and a rock star for sure! Thank you for another wonderful stay!
Poor Customer Service, the front desk staff/manager needs training to properly assist customers with friendly and professional manner.
Beautiful hotel, but spa services were way overpriced. Terrible service at restaurant. $450 for couple's massage. $90 for haircut. $400 dinner and server never checked on us for drink refills.
Wonderful stay at the Edgewater. We were upgraded to a lakeview room (in the Langdon building - pro: this the building where the fitness center, spa, etc. are located. Con: it is a bit of a walk from the main building/main entrance). Parking was not cheap - $32/day for self park, $38/day for valet, which seemed high for a city like Madison, but it was very near the captol, the University, and downtown, so parking is not abundant). Location was, then, excellent, walking doitnce to most everything of interest in Madison. Room was lovely - classy, well appointed, Room and entire buildign were immaculate. Though we were right near the elevator, we never heard a sound in three nights. Spa was fabulous - we both had great massages and enjoyed the facitlites. Service was terrific - there were two bottles of water in the room when we arrived, and when we called down the next dayto ask if we might get two or three more, they immediatley sent someone up with four more (at no charge). We did room service breakfast one morning, which was delivered right at the promised time, and was pretty good (room service bresakfat is not, in my experience, usually anthing to write home about). We got a fantatic last minute price and it was beyond worth waht we paid (we would hve spent the same at a Hilton or a Marriott, and the Edgewater had much more character). Highly recommended!
Worst mattress I’ve ever had and I travel multiple times a year. Would recommend dining and staying somewhere else.
Beautiful property on the water and close to many great restaurants. Having spa services available was a big plus as well.
Loved everything.
Location and staff
Needs a makeover. Blinds are broke, tvs don’t work, carpet and bedding is disgusting. Carpet way WAY worse. Spa pool closed the week I was there. Spa discounts didn’t make it to the receipts so I had to Go back in forth with receptionist and then manager because my daughter and I both had treatments….
Beautiful hotel with a gorgeous location. Outstanding staff in all areas. Opt for a lake view if possible it will be well worth it.
