We arrived for a stay for my friends wedding when we arrived our room was not ready which was fair enough but we were not offered anywhere to get changed for the wedding that started in an hour of our arrival
We booked this hotel last minute and got a great deal! on arrival we couldn’t believe how grand it looked from the outside and on entering found it to be just as nice with helpful staff and a lovely modern spotless room. We only booked the basic room so would love to see what the more expensive rooms are like? Evening meal and breakfast were both excellent with plenty of choice. What a great find and would recommend.
Couldn’t really fault the hotel at all but if I had to say something it would be there was a railway line behind our room and could hear the odd train passing now and then but not a problem for us we had a great sleep!
Beautiful hotel and grounds. Friendly staff. Easy check in.
A beautiful hotel and was lucky to stay in an original room with the most amazing bathroom
Nothing we didn't like
It’s location
Nothing bad it was lovely
номер соответствовал ожиданиям и уровню отеля
Breakfast was amazing and catered for everyone, we also had Evening Meal there with wine and this was also amazing and great value for money. Although there was a Wedding and another function on there it was still no hustle and bustle and the service was amazing
Absolutely nothing to not like about this hotel
Nothing was wrong at all. Perfect location , property and gardens . One of the best places we have ever stayed in all our years of travelling . Couldn’t fault it . The staff were amazing and went above and beyond every single day . Polite and so friendly .

Everything! Love it, room was lovely, food excellent and the staff were very nice!
The location was very good the views were amazing . I would return to the hotel despite my dislikes
Some of the staff were very young and very quiet and it was hard to hear them. Some of the bar staff lacked a bit of professionalism. Unfortunately for the venue they had some electric problems..
Nice building and surroundings
The window which was very heavy metal literally fell out as opening it. The whole frame came away. My son who was staying in the room with his partner thankfully held onto it and his partner had to get staff to help hold it. If it had dropped could have killed someone. My son is a strong man thankfully but others may have not been able to hold on until staff came . Quite worrying. This shook them up quite a bit with the thought of what may have happened if he couldn’t hold on to it .. he could have also hurt himself as it was so heavy . There were people walking around unaware nearby
Stayed here several times before, always great

Location quality services
Amazing room, staff were friendly & helpful. Breakfast was prepared fresh & was very tasty
The hotel is a lovely building and the room I was allocated was a nice room - A good size, with a good size bathroom. The shower pressure was really good. The bed was really comfortable and I slept really well. The toiletries provided were of a good quality. Good onsite parking is available at no extra charge.
Hotel - The hotel itself is a lovely building in a lovely setting. Arrival/Departure - The Ladies who were on reception when I arrived and departed were pleasant enough in their manner, but it wasn't a warm welcome or departure - They appeared as though they didn't really want to be there really. Room - The room I was allocated was a nice room and I slept really well. The TV in the room is attached to the wall on an angle, which is awkward to watch from the bed. It needs to be on a bracket that swings out from the wall when required, so the TV can then be watched straight on. Breakfast - The breakfast ordering really let this hotel and my stay down as they have so many odd rules when it comes to placing your breakfast order - For example: You can only order one of each listed item, and you can't amend things/swap things out if you do not like or are intolerant to something, you just have to have the item removed. I found this all very odd, and the strangest breakfast ordering experience that I have ever had in all of the hotels that I have stayed in over the years. Once I received my breakfast, it was actually really good, and the poached eggs were cooked to perfection. I also had to stand and wait to be seated for quite a while.
The food was absolutely amazing. Hotel was beautiful, scenery beautiful.
An absolute pleasure to stay in this hotel! Everything is lovely, clean and high quality. The breakfast was delicious. I really liked the grounds and the road to the Furrow Abbey- I truly enjoyed visiting it.
It was a wedding and, although I was notified in advance about this, it was louder than I anticipated. I read before booking about other guests being checked in the other wing of the hotel but we stayed right above the wedding venue and it was very unpleasant. If you are a light sleeper like me then don't go when a wedding takes place. Otherwise, everything perfect, I will go again with pleasure!

The hotel was very clean. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Love the acoustic singing on Sunday evening that was very nice. Food was very nice on Saturday evening and breakfast was nice..
The Sunday roast was not very nice meat was very fatty onion rings were very greasy. It said on the menu triple cooked chips and that wasn’t the case .
Gorgeous place! It was so clean and our room was great value for money. Cleaned everyday, stocked with water / teas, etc. Beautiful building. A very good breakfast included.
Just a little bit of a random location and there wasn’t much around, but sometimes that’s nice.
Great hotel in a beautiful location with lovely staff. Exceeded expectations!!
Nothing
Beautiful house in a beautiful setting. Clean modern rooms, with a very comfy bed.
The restaurant was very overpriced with very average food. Not really suitable for gluten free. Not much effort made to accommodate gf, some gf toast available and 2 mains only.
Everything especially the staff - size of room was great - very comfortable bed - no noise - great facilities
The ONLY criticism is there were no usb usc charging points - that’s it!!!!
Room was great, staff very helpful, food was excellent. Will certainly book again.
This is very fussy but while in restaurant we got seated and a few mins later another couple came in and they get drinks and order taken and drinks delivered and starters delivered before our order was taken., Also the desserts my partners was brought to the table and I had to remind staff I had ordered a dessert several mins later. Only small gripes in an overall excellent stay.
Beautiful building and set in lovely grounds that lead you to a ruined Abby structure that is massive, I really enjoyed my walk around it. The decorations and style of the property is lovely. Best of all is the staff, they were all just so happy and helpful. Would definitely stay here again.
Nothing it was lovely
The building is stunning, and the grounds, suite was amazing. The staff were great.
The food for vegetarian, pescatarian was bland and overpriced. However, the breakfast menu was much better. The suite being as big and beautiful as it is could have done with a fridge and aircon.

The room is comfortable and clean. Breakfast is very good, with a nice hot meal selection and a good selection at the cold buffet as well. The morning staff team are always a joy.
The fan in my room couldn't be turned off so took a little getting used to at night, but no big deal.
Stunning building (arriving at night) and very well maintained. Lovely grounds. We only stayed one night but very comfortable with a good breakfast. Friendly staff.
Nothing, lovely stay
Lovely surroundings and gardens, friendly reception staff.
Found out I’d paid double what my nephew had paid for 1 night for same room! I’d Emailed hotel to ask for early check in as wedding party room wasn’t ready on arrival didn’t offer option to use another room to get ready had to get dressed in ladies room.
Envoirnment and location
Location, and grounds
Absolutely beautiful, I couldn't fault it. Food was fantastic, staff were very polite and professional quite unusual these days.
Beautiful building in a lovely location. There was a wedding on when we attended and staff moved us to one of the lodge rooms so it would be quieter which was lovely
Nothing
Lovely clean hotel, staff friendly, comfy bed, great surroundings.
Nothing
We can not fault this place at all ..we booked last minute and was not disappointed. The food in restaurant evening and morning was excellent!!
That we only booked for 1 night wish we stayed longer!!
The venue is fantastic. The location is well away from anything else and nothing close to be seen or heard during our stay. The gardens and the exterior of the building are stunning, and look like something out of an period drama. Inside, the building has a fresh, modern feel while keeping all the original architectural features, lots of nooks and crannies for exploring. Everything from the lobby, halls and room were super clean and fresh. The room had great views and they have kept the original windows (as well as inner sliding ones which kept out any noise and great for extra air as it was a warm summer night), which all made the authentic old county house feel inclusive of the stay. Breakfast was included which was great price, and this was a full English with plenty of options, made to order and was restaurant quality, not mass produced buffet style. Excellent. I'm surprised this isn't a 5 star venue! Book with confidence!
Very small issue but TV only had generic channels and couldn't log into Netflix etc, even on own account. Didn't effect the stay at all. Venue had gluten free bread available for breakfast, but their gluten cereal looked like it had maybe been sat there a while (but they have it available which many don't) so I could have asked for fresher ones but I didn't. (again, this was NOT really bad, the breakfast was delicious!)

Lovely property and clean room

Location Room
Breakfast was mediocre along service
Perfect location, beautiful walks nearby, the seaside is a 15 minute drive away, the hotel is set in stunning grounds. The staff are brilliant and you're made to feel very welcome. Rooms are very well kept, clean and spacious.
The view was amazing from the bedrooms Location is great
The rooms are big staff was very friendly. We really enjoy our stay.
The vibe of the hotel was immaculate
Nothing!! If I was being really fussy….. nope, nothing!! Maybe a spa would be amazing
Everything its beautiful especially the spacious suite we had Buttermere the staff were lovely and helpful would recommend
The wait at reception on arrival noone there for at least 7 mins which was quite weird, had to go into restaurant area to ask a member of staff to contact someone otherwise a lovely stay
The outside was lovely
Location is superb, room was opulent and comfortable.
Lightning in the room was not dimmable. This meant I had to leave the bathroom light on so I could see if I woke up in the night for the loo.
Lovely
Staff were so lovely it was husbands bday they upgraded us to the most beautiful spacious suit left him a card
Nothing at all

Noise from club in annexe.6
The location and grounds were stunning.
The house was absolutely amazing, stunning views and interior design was beautiful, the grounds are very well kept. Will definately return
We stayed in the Princess Suite couldn’t fault was amazing
The atmosphere is very nice, everything is very clean, there are places to walk, explore historical properties, everything is very good and staff very friendly.
Unfortunately, they rent the place for private parties, and the noise is very loud. Sadly, if you're unlucky enough, like I was, to have two consecutive days of parties and your room be above the party hall, it significantly disrupts the experience for anyone who just wants to relax and have peace. Unfortunately, this is only mentioned after you've made your reservation, and this aspect was quite disappointing. Not to mention that the bedroom doors don't have dampers, and another very annoying point is that you constantly hear the neighboring doors slamming, and since the place is rented for parties, there's a lot of coming and going.
The property was stunning inside and out The grounds were just beautiful. Everything was clean and exceptionally quality.
Nothing at all
Clean, good sized room. Excellent breakfast. Lovely grounds.
Venetian blinds in bedroom did not provide a good blackout. Automatic light goes on in bathroom, and there is no off switch, which can be a nuisance when someone goes to use the bathroom through the night (we like to leave the bathroom door open through the night for ease of access in the dark)
The location was amazing, for the money the place felt so elevated and lovely. Breakfast was great, you get one hot meal and then can go to the cold buffet bar.
Don’t have any complaints! Staff were great 😊
Location cleanliness breakfast
Very nice location and comfortable public areas
We booked a classic suit all the suites where named we got a room no 127 when I rang reception i was told it was a suit nothing like the hotel pictures it had a king size bed and 2 chairs and a round table nice bathroom In the picture it shows a sofa flowers on the table and very welcoming just very disappointing for £200+ for the night
From the moment we walked through the door, we were greeted by a very welcoming and friendly lady on reception. Our room was stunning and the huge bed was so comfortable. Wide range of drinks in the room and some biscuits. We had dinner in the restaurant 'Oscars' and the food was exceptional. The waiting staff were brilliant and efficient and the young man (sorry I didn't get his name but wore a blue waistcoat) asked if we would like to watch the England game and if so, he would put it on in the Grand Hall for us. Nothing was too much trouble for himself or any of the other staff. Breakfast was lovely, with a great selection of items included in the room price. The grounds are spectacular and the whole place is our little sanctuary when we need to just relax and unwind for the night. I highly recommend this place.
Nothing at all negative to say.
Staffs were very polite.. Good location and very good breakfast.
Little touches like the birthday card added and an upgrade to the suite. We were informed there was going to be loud music until midnight of the day we stayed. We had the option to cancel but we didn't mind. The music was to our taste anyways 😀. Staff were always on hand and any concerns or questions were answered quickly (when contacted online).
There wasn't anything to not like.
How wonderful and helpful reception day and evening staff was also the breakfast team
Nothing everything super
The surroundings.
Receptionist was lovely
The bathroom could have been cleaner. Being woken by the trains. Not able to get anything to eat after 9pm other than chilli crisps or some other strange flavour.
Great location, excellent breakfast and very helpful and friendly staff
Shower was very hot even on the coolest setting and a bit too powerful!
Beautiful hotel.
Lovely hotel and grounds. Very friendly and helpful reception staff. Breakfast was nice with lots of choice, including a good variety of fresh fruit.
No real coffees included with breakfast. The room was very nice, but the TV was at the foot of the bed, making it difficult to sit and watch from the side.
Lovely grounds, stunning building. I was upgraded to a suite which was a great treat! Really friendly and accommodating staff. This will be my new stop for exploring the lakes
I liked everything. A very beautiful hotel and gardens—and at a low price by English standards
Hotel was great and surroundings Q
The property was easily accessible, plenty of parking, it was clean and very well presented
No fridge in room and no safe, one very small bottle of water for making tea/coffee
It's an absolutely stunning hotel set back in gorgeous grounds. The weather made the hotel and grounds stand out even more as it was beautifully lawned and had weddings booked so extra pretty blossom set ups. It was a very nice treat for my parents x
Post wedding noisy guests. There was no restrictions in place to keep noise to minimum after the events.
Lovely staff buildings abd grounds
Warm bread described as toast.
Unfortunately, I wasn’t happy with my stay. The breakfast was disappointing, and the staff didn’t seem interested in helping guests. The bathroom wasn’t very clean and had black mould, which was particularly off-putting. Overall, it wasn’t a pleasant experience, and I wouldn’t choose to stay here again.
The grounds were beautiful, the rooms were clean and spacious, the staff were brilliant from check in to check out
Have nothing bad to say about the property , would definitely recommend
Really nice hotel, of great architectural interest and quality bedrooms, harbouring excellent restaurant with freshly cooked breakfast available in the morning. Staff helpful and considerate, great teamwork goes on, spotted even the chef helping out at the tables on wedding days! Located in own grounds, ample free parking and short distance from Barrow. Highly recommend a visit to the Dock Museum in Barrow. Yes, would like to stay again.
Perhaps a sauna or small pool experience might be useful in addition to it only being a pure gymnasium?
The building, the wonderful gardens, the comfortable room, the parking, the breakfast.
Nothing to say.
Well maintained property with excellent Management and staff.A must place in The Lakes District.
The entire Hotels structure and the well maintained beautiful Garden and of course the Oscar( well organised restaurant u staff and management.
Beautiful property and maintained well

Beautiful historical hotel immaculate throughout, spacious well designed and equipped rooms. Attentive friendly staff, excellent full English breakfast. Alfresco dining area was superb for a party buffet menu was outstanding I can’t praise the place enough superb !
The hotel is fabulous. Beautiful building, inside gorgeous and well maintained. Decorated and designed to high spec. Facilities were all great. More than met expectations. Rooms were lovely, exceptionally clean, comfy bed, soft furnishings, modern. All little extras drink facilities, little kits to get through stay. Even iron and ironing board. Oscars restaurant was lovely, fantastic evening meal and service also great breakfast. Staff were so helpful, friendly, very calm atmosphere. The gardens and grounds exceptional, just neautiful flowers, seating areas, lighting and walkways. We just love this hotel.
The hairdryer🤣😂.
Location
When we arrived they did not appear to have our booking. They finally found us a room, but the floor had not been cleaned - there was confetti on the floor
Location and restaurant
The hotel is situated in a very convenient quiet location on the edge of Barrow in Furness. The grounds are extensive and beautiful and the staff are lovely. Breakfast is excellent., good quality produce. Cold buffet available, and then you select your cooked breakfast from a menu and it is prepared freshly for you and served at your table together with tea/coffee and toast. The poached eggs were absolutely perfectly cooked every time! Best I’ve ever had!
This is NOT a dislike/ complaint, just something guests need to be aware of when booking. The hotel hosts weddings and other functions. There were three functions in our six night stay. These were all held in the Cavendish suite on the ground floor of the ‘ contemporary’ building where we had our ‘ contemporary’ room. Two functions finished at 11pm and one at midnight. We could hear music ( but not loud music ) in our room until that time. All guests enter and leave by separate entrance to the function room on ground floor. It absolutely did not bother us at all, we don’t go to bed early! We never heard function guests leaving etc. and the hotel notified us before we arrived of functions being held and they have a notice at reception of any functions taking place. However, if you like to go to sleep early, and you think music in the distance might bother you, you might want to check with the hotel for help in selecting which room would be best for you. It would NOT put us off rebooking.
We've stayed at the Abbey House Hotel on previous occasions and always been very pleased and satisfied with our stay. The hotel facilities and consistently high standard throughout are what keep bringing us back. And I'm sure we'll be returning once again very soon. It's often overlooked in reviews that there are excellent outside spaces at the hotel, too. You can sit out in the beautiful gardens and even go for a walk in the extensive grounds. All things considered, its excellent value for money.
Nothing. We stayed two nights and on the first night had a fabulous meal in Oscars restaurant. It was beautifully prepared and presented and we thought represented good value for money, especially in in such a high quality Hotel. The breakfast selection was excellent and was also a very high standard. The rooms are a good size and beautifully clean and have everything you could possibly need for a comfortable stay. So truthfully, there was nothing we didn't like...
Stunning property and gardens, extremely helpful staff, excellent food and drinks.
English breakfast very good, less mushrooms and better quality black pudding. Fridge in room would be ideal.
The staff was amazing well done
There wasn't anything we didnt like
The room was lovely, comfortable with excellent supplies. There was 1 half floor to the room, but there was a lift if needed. The grounds were awesome, with some nice walks and a nice little stroll down a hill to the remains of Furness Abbey. Really friendly staff, and a great breakfast.
Nothing. The only slight issue was there was an event taking place while we stayed, but we were informed in advance upon booking and offered the chance to cancel with no charge. We didn't, so there was music until late in the evening, but the band were really good so it wasnt an issue.
Nice historic place
The staff were all lovely. The grounds are beautiful. The food was excellent.
No air con in the room and it was very hot when we stayed - but it’s a very old building so understandable
Stunning grounds great service and lovely decor
The only unfortunate bit was the WiFi fine in the lobby and bar but once in the room it was none existent
Room was clean
Was told I could get drinks late on by the staff. Night porters refused stating they had 2 rooms to get ready and no we are not allowed drinks
Very clean and tidy! But really need Aircon.
Need Aircon
The location, the gardens
Nothing!
Room was amazing, food lovely, staff friendly
Stunning property lived it here and will definitely be coming back. Hotel is beautiful inside and the grounds are gorgeous too the staff so friendly and attentive as we’re all the people in barrow
