Stayed multiple times and always enjoy it, from the room, the staff, food and the stunning grounds. We had our room upgraded to an attic room as I didn’t like the small room I had paid for, I didn’t expect that but was completely grateful.

Gorgeous location with a storied history. Has modern updates to it but the halls still have the old world style to them. Has the quirks of a property that old with the layout that can make finding things an adventure.
The maze like layout, some places need more fixing up but it is a volunteer effort to keep up with repairs.
Wonderful find. A real gem that I would definitely return to.

Room was quiet, bathroom was great! Lovely shower.
Bed was a small double so not a great nights sleep. Window in bathroom had a broken latch so no way to secure it or the room. After leaving the hotel, I realised that I had accidentally left my phone charger in the room. I was reassured during a follow-up phone call that the charger had been found and would be kept safely in a drawer at reception until it could be collected. Follow up: Unfortunately I did not receive my charger back after being advised by a receptionist it had been 'misplaced'. The hotel Manager contacted me and graciously offered to send me a replacement. Be warned, I was also advised that any items left behind will be given to 'a charity' if not claimed within a certain time frame.
Unique place to stay. Liked the history and faded grandeur of the place. Nice gardens to walk around. Quiet and scenic location. Staff helpful and friendly.
Shower was difficult to operate on bath being a mixer.
Staff are always great at Wortley Hall. Our room had a lovely view over the lawns and everything very clean. A lovely warm "welcome back" from duty receptionist Ellie, on arrival.
Pillows too hard for us.
Impressive building and great location
In serious need of some TLC. Peeling wall paper, unclean carpets, scattered remnants of glasses, bottles, footwear lying around that hadn’t been cleared up. Obviously a highly rated wedding venue, we stayed two nights and there was a wedding on both nights. Other guests seem somewhat overlooked. Breakfast location was disappointing.
it was a nice property
the staff and the breakfast was awful and not worth the money
Lovely position
Tired dated decor and upkeep
The hall from outside was very nice, inside was okay but needed doing up It's more of a wedding venue
The bed was very used and uncomfortable The hallway next to our room was very smelly
The room was clean and staff lovely
We got a special offer and although the hotel was very quiet when we stayed, we felt we where put in a room with no view cause we got a good offer and paid £48.
The location.
Very disappointing stay – sadly not as advertised We recently stayed at Wortley Hall Hotel as a surprise getaway for myself and my partner after we had been through a particularly difficult period. I chose the hotel because of its beautiful appearance, the way it was advertised online, its location and, initially, what seemed to be a reasonable price. Unfortunately, the reality of our stay was extremely disappointing. From the outside, the venue is genuinely impressive and has a lot of character. The grounds and the building itself are attractive, and it is clear that this is a historic property with a lot of potential. Sadly, once inside, it became apparent that the hotel is very poorly maintained and significantly more run-down than the photographs and advertising would suggest. There appeared to be numerous maintenance issues throughout the building, which left the interior looking shabby, tired and neglected. It is particularly disappointing because a building of this age and character deserves to be properly maintained and looked after. Our room was the biggest disappointment. I had high expectations based on the photographs, which portrayed the rooms as clean, comfortable and well presented. Instead, we were given a dated, poorly maintained and unclean room. There was wallpaper peeling from the walls, lights that were not working, marks on the walls and flooring, visible damage, cracks in the walls, and the ceiling above us was clearly in disrepair and looked concerningly unsafe. The room also had extremely thin walls. We could hear people walking around, moving about and even having relatively quiet conversations in neighbouring rooms. This made it very difficult to feel that we had any privacy or peace and quiet. The lack of mobile phone reception in the rooms was also an issue, particularly as the Wi-Fi connection was extremely poor. This made communication and accessing the internet unnecessarily difficult during our stay.
Lovely grounds Well kept in keeping with surroundings
Some Cosmetic changes with regards to some well needed work, such as painting and plastering
The grounds and gardens are amazing. It is a really wonderful place to explore. Breakfast was good.
The bar meal was not great, and because there was a wedding party, it was impossible to find anywhere quiet to eat.
Staff were very good, location and grounds excellent . Food very good. Room clean and comfortable , small but absolutely fine.
Toilet was difficult to flush and failed completely on the morning we left , we had to use hotel toilets downstairs instead. No other room issues. Worst issue was the weddings on site over the weekend. We could not access our room via the stairs after check in and most of the afternoon as photos were being taken using staircase. Crowds of wedding guests in the only bar area meant we were unable to use the bar at all. I left the dining room between courses during evening meal and was unable to get back to finish meal for a long period as more photos bring taken totally blocked the only route back. It felt like us as hotel guests came a poor second to the wedding guests. We paid good money to stay and were totally unable to use the facilities effectively I have often stayed at hotels hosting weddings, usually the wedding guests use separate areas of the hotel meaning hotels guests can still effectively use the hotel as needed. It totally ruined our long awaited weekend away.
Room was lovely. Very peaceful & quiet
Evidence of ceiling in the main stairwell crumbling also room was warm, no aircon & couldn't open a window
The hotel is in a very peaceful location. The food was delicious especially the breakfast. The staff was very polite and nothing was to much trouble
We stayed overnight and cant really say there wasn't anything I didnt like
Just got back from a nights stay - we had to leave at 7am but I wish I could've stayed longer! The building is beautiful & quirky. Absolutely loved the old books & architecture. I've read a few reviews saying some places of the building look tired, however I really do think it adds to the character & charm of the place. The food in the bar was exceptional, so beautifully presented & tasted amazing. Already looking at booking to come back!
Leaving at 7am
Fabulous grounds and excellent staff
Tired decor, carpets throughout need replacing. Breakfast and dinner were underwhelming.
I arranged for a family member to collect it on my behalf, only to be told that the charger had subsequently been “misplaced”. What was particularly disappointing was the complete lack of apology or any apparent attempt to look for it or offer a replacement. I also emailed the Hotel Manager, Johnathan da Rosa, to raise my concerns, but to date I have received no response. I was even told by the member of staff who failed to assist me that it was “not unusual for guests’ lost property to become misplaced”, which I found extremely concerning. As an independent hotel, I had expected a more personal and professional level of customer service. Unfortunately, my experience has left me with the impression that customer care and accountability are simply not a priority at this establishment.
Setting and grounds
The interior of the house felt a little neglected
Beautiful location with stunning views. Helpful and friendly staff. Room was clean and had everything you needed. Close to good road links.
A little tired with the decor but location and staff made up for that.
Comfortable bed, great staff
Location Grounds House Walled garden Staff
Bar closing at 9.30pm No lounge to sit in offered when bar closed A real ale choice in the bar would be a good option
Spacious, bedroom was modern and clean. The old house is fascinating. Grounds so lovely to explore. Staff v helpful too.
A lovely room and a very comfortable bed. Breakfast, would have liked more fruit and gluten free options Ate in the evening and the curry was excellent
Super friendly staff and brilliant location

Nice location and spacious rooms
No prior notification of an event which meant no evening meal available. Bins emptied under my room very early.
Staff are very friendly, helpful and welcoming. Both at reception and at breakfast.
I stayed here before, about 18 months ago and thought I would try again as I was in the area. However, the room this time was far inferior to last time. The bathroom was a joke, way too small like a broom cupboard. Only suitable for children under 10!! You cannot credibly expect adults to put up with a bathroom like that. Not only was it small but the shower had no shelves for shampoo and body wash meaning you had to put them on the floor. As it was so small, picking them up was a challenge!!! When our of tge shower, gettdried was aldo a challenge. It was Room 30. Breakfast was mediocre at best. I know it is a buffet but.... Bacon and sausage were overcooked and tough. I was astonished to see on the menu that you had to pay an additional £3.95 for eggs other than fried, especially when Breakfast was £15 to begin with!! That's pretty outrageous to say the least. The building is way past its best. Very tired looking and needs a sharp overhaul. I think you play on the "Hall" part of the title to attract foreigners who probably think it is quite "quaint". Being English, I do not! It is a clear example of a business profiting from neglect and happy to take people's money. I will not be recommending this to any of my friends.
Stayed here before 24 years previously for a wedding. Still the same beautiful house with lovely surroundings. Nice quiet location.
The house was beautiful on outside
Shower was too hot could not cool it down the place carpet are run down for money and staff was friendly and accommodating but when they went toilet there wasn't staff to replace them very slow service beautiful grounds but grounds should reflect the inside
I love the location, the history and authenticity of the Hall.
Needs a few repairs and luck of paint here and there.
Location lovely room comfortable
Need more vegetarian options on dinner/lunches Shame the gardens are not upkept more
I was craving a full English and lots of tea plus Apple Juice and that’s what I had …. Kept me going till early evening! Bag of peanuts as half a Guinness apart …
Staff were great, bed was comfy enough
The overall decor is very dated, most fittings in our room were dusty
We did not stay after check in. The room allocated to us for 2 nights was down a very dark dingy corridor. It was tired and in need of renovation and had a musty smell. Furniture and bed were very tired. Fabric around the side of the bed was ripped. Window would not shut, curtains very thin. Bathroom was also very tired and in need of renovation We checked out immediately. Took a while to get a refund. Booked through booking.com and communication between hotel and booking.com was not good. After chasing up both parties it was finally resolved after 3 weeks.
It’s the most beautiful location and a property with a great history. It’s not 6 star decadent luxury but it is a great hotel with a lovely team
There isn’t much to dislike unless you’re a Reform voter
Location and views are stunning. Lovely staff and bar area was very fancy. I felt the overall area was incredible and the staff were lovely and pleasant
Breakfast could have been better. Felt it was more like a morrisons style breakfast as it wasn't worth the 15.00 overhead. The only decent thing would be the cereals and juice selection. I felt that the overall look of the place was amazing but there is structural areas that need improved. In the room the place was like an oven with no air conditioning apart from fans which when switched on smelled like burning. The windows will need updating as they aren't the best in terms of ventilation and the shower screen wasnt very effective at keeping water out. The floors uneven which is a trip hazard especially after a few drinks we could easily fall on.
Location and friendly staff. Food excellent
Paid nearly double for a room with booking.com that was nearly half the price if we'd booked directly with you No view from bedroom. A stone wall 3 metres away
Absolutely beautiful building and stunning grounds
Wortley Hall is ideal if you enjoy heritage properties, beautiful grounds, and warm, personable service. It shines for afternoon tea, weddings, and peaceful getaways, offering a charming, character-rich stay with strong hospitality.
Some minor imperfections exist, but the overall experience is memorable and well-loved.
Nice room. Meals were generally good. The only problem is when you book through booking.com breakfast is not included. We weren't informed about this.
just a few small things could've made the experience much better. For example, a brush to clean the toilet with which was not present. A fan in the room because it was quite warm. Some other tiles in the bathroom were loose.
The location
Breakfast was very expensive for what they was offering
Very nice location Very clean
Said the bar closes at 11 but was closed well before half 10
Room was old like the building but was a decent room just needed new carpets and brick dust was on the side and outside room door
On arrival was no kettle no iron or ironing board no fan witch was disappointing the hotel it's self was a nice place to stay apart from needed a good clean
breakfast excellent; staff very helpful, especially obliging in allowing charging of ebike
Had a meal as part af a part of 13. Reaction was mixed - those who had steak or fish very happy, the curries were disappointing, very little in the way of spice The double bed was on th small size and very creaky making sleep difficult, especially during a hot night
Location
Staff miserable blocked shower uncomfortable bed door to shower faulty handle
Room was quiet, bathroom was great! Lovely shower.
Bed was a small double so not a great nights sleep. Window in bathroom had a broken latch so no way to secure it or the room.
Stunning setting. Friendly and efficient reception staff. Good-sized room with bath and over-shower. Good value for money.
Location and history
Fabulous weather and location
it's a lovely, quirky property with everything you need and so much more. Fascinating history, fabulous setting, excellent price. Thank you for a great stay
TV is out dated
The period features and the food and staff.
The damage to the property from water!
Staff were amazing from arriving to departing after 2 night stay. Could not do enough, nothing tooich trouble.
Minor thing which didn't bother us but may others. The building is old and needs a few bits of TLC such as few walls with paint chips.
Ok
the room was wonderful. a good size and not to far to get too.
The drink prices seemed a little on the high side
Location and Grounds Friendly Staff especially the Breakfast greeting/seating Staff The food is faultless
The more budget friendly priced experience really does feel like a poor mans stay, I honestly expected better, the room was pretty dingey and in need of a re decorating. The beds are too firm and uncomfortable. Non inclusion of breakfast and to have pay the price it was, was OTT.
This is a beautiful interesting building with stunning features like the ceilings and staircases. The staff were all friendly and helpful. The evening meal was excellent. We were lucky that there was a classic car event on the following morning. There was a wedding reception happening when we were there. We were still able to get served at the bar and it did not impact on our stay.
The room we had was a little basic and would benefit from having new carpets, however it was ample for a short stay and the bed comfortable. The view from our room was over a roof and buildings within the hotel. But it was not noisy or a problem. Breakfast was tasty, although I was not keen on the food sitting in grease on the hot plate.
Beautiful location
Dated and worn bedroom facilities. Smell bathroom. Loud drunk wedding guests arguing in the corridor late into the night.
Na
Being told that the restaurant was closed and now in bar
nice selection of breakfast although it was served in two separate rooms. nice location.
had breakfast, had to wait for some food to be replenished 2/3 mins, bedroom old & tired, couldn't open windows, over painted, ceilings had damp & wet patches, main staircase had fallen plaster from the ceiling.
Wortley Hall offered well-appointed facilities in a characterful building set in beautiful landscaped gardens. The staff provided a warm welcome and the historic associations of the Hall added to the enjoyment of our stay.
Wortley Hall exceeded our expectations.
Everything
No complaints
The property had such an interesting history - especially around union activity and women’s rights - I would have loved a guided tour to appreciate it fully. Obviously the hotel has some maintenance and upgrade work going on but did not interfere with our stay. And the staff were all very helpful - but were sometimes hard to find as I felt there were too few covering all the jobs.
Some of the decor seemed a little faded. It was easy to get lost in a rambling old building - perhaps better sign needed. The hotel advertise afternoon tea and a restaurant on booking. Com but I was confused about where these were located.
Beautiful setting, in truth it’s a gem of a facility which is maintained by volunteers and the hotel run in a non-commercial manner
It’s quaint and of a certain vintage around the hall. The rooms themselves were comfortable enough and clean but not all in decent state.
The property is beautiful and so are the grounds
Cleanliness is an issue. Dirty cups, shower had hair in it. Muck/mould on pillows. Mould on window and in the shower. Room smelt damp. The property is beautiful but needs some renovation and room being unclean is unacceptable.
Everything, I’ve been twice now and both times had a fantastic stay!
That I couldn’t have stayed longer.
Just excellent
Na
Beautiful
Nothing
A fascinating history makes this place unique. We could feel the unions of earlier times in everything. There was a union conference happening as we were there - everyone polite and friendly
Clearer directions to find our way through the many corridors in the house.
Beautiful setting.
We arrived in the evening, tired after travelling, to be informed that there was an event going on and the dining room wasn’t open. We had to walk to the local pub for food. The hotel is tired and shabby. Probably fabulous once but definitely past its prime. Breakfast poor and the coffee was like dishwater.
Breakfast was great, staff were very friendly.
When we arrived the room light was on with the window open, so it was full of flies and moths. Carpet was grubby, and bathroom smelt of drains.
Beautiful location, excellent value for money
Over charged at the Service hatch for breakfast takeaway and then the breakfast roll was missing hash brown id paid extra for. Shower in room too hot, unable to change temperature. Fan in room inadequate for hot weather, it was extremely small and not very effective.
I was happy with the low price but presumably the premises are undergoing modernisation, but I was very pleased with the disability access room and wet room,
got lost three times trying to find my way to and from the disabled car park
Breakfast was very good and staff serving were pleasant and helpfull as were all the staff at Wortley hall , the hotel is in a quiet location which makes it a very relaxing stay. Evening meal was excellent and reasonably priced
Drinks at bar expensive
Comfortable and nice with ample environment
Abit far from the train station
Lots of choice, good food
Nothing
The building was very charming with such beautiful old wood carvings and lovely large public rooms. The place is so large one nearly needs a map to find our way around. The cooked breakfast was very good. The dinner at the bar had limited choice but the quality was good. Staff were all very pleasant and attentive.
The standard bedroom room was quite small, the view was to the back of another building. The soft furnishing was cheap and cheerful, considering the price this was fine.
The setting was gorgeous, lovely staff very helpful and room was older which was a lovely aesthetic. Drinks were well priced and nice. There was an 80s event but it was not disruptive.
Unfortunately the grounds weren’t very well kept when we walked around, this would have been a gorgeous pond and gardens. The mattress was very stiff and hard. For the price, the room could have been nicer and better value for money. We were disappointed the breakfast ended at 9,45 as we hoped to checkout at 10 and get breakfast, where most places breakfast ends at 11.
Local to our requirements.
Upon arrival noticed the hotel was dusty and dirty up the stair case. Debris on the carpets. The room was dusty, tops of the lamps. Soap left in the shower from previous guest. Window didn't open. General cleanliness was poor.
Location. Going out to beautiful scenery
Complicated design, a bit like a labyrinth. to get to the room. Some investment need be made to restore windows frames, stairs, some carpets etc. Probably all depends to what customers offer to be tailored
Delightful spot and very atmospheric Breakfast first class and terrific value
No food after 8pm, even in the bar
What a find Wortley Hall is. Such an interesting history as well. The staff are professional yet warm and friendly. The room was a good size with everything necessary for an overnight stay. The absolute highlight is the exceptional food. What a gem if a chef. Better than most restaurants
Absolutely nothing
Not a lot
The prices of food and drinks
The location was excellent , with wonderful views overlooking some lovely quiet countryside.
However, unfortunately my room was overlooking the bins and the kitchen delivery area. I was woken up by a delivery very early.
Very clean, parking, staff very friendly and greeted upon arrival. Vegan options available which was great. Bed very comfortable and bathroom great, spacious & appreciated having a bath.
No tea in the room supplied but coffee was. Vegan options at breakfast was appreciated but cooked breakfast options was limited (compared to other venues who offer more on a plate). Breakfast pricey for what was suppliers
Wonderful location, very interesting history. Lovely staff
It was a touch shabby, but charming
Really nice location food was excellent will definitely stay again
Nothing
Staff were lovely and very accomadating. We were there for a wedding and had a medical emergency the morning of checking out. We were a little late to breakfast and check out because of this and the staff were very calm and understanding.
They are clearly renovating several rooms at once, and older rooms were the same price as updated rooms. It would have been nice to know which type of room you were in based on the price if possible.
Location
Lack of clear signage
The views were amazing and the gardens were beautiful. Our room was very spacious and extremely clean 👌. They were short staffed in the bar but I must say the young lady that served us was very nice even under a lot of pressure ( wedding was taking place) the young lady once the que had gone down did come to speak to us. I didn't catch her name unfortunately but management should praise the young lady.
I understand there was a wedding so it was very busy. To be fair we checked in later in the day but was disappointed they didn't have much choice for dinner. Saying that the young lady behind the bar could not have been any nicer.
Excellent evening meal and breakfast. Comfortable beds and really helpful staff
Nothing
Beautiful surroundings. Lovely village
Lovely period building in great surroundings.. staff were friendly and easy to park.the showers were powerful. The food was of a good standard
The property was tierd and requires renovation in areas. Could be a really lovely place. I felt it required a deeper clean within he room I stayed. Staiwell leading to Hague rooms requires attention. Not a great first impression. The area to eat evening meal is way to small
