Lots of garden areas to walk around
A little too far away from the local newsagents
Easily accessible, clean, easy to park.
Virtually no mobile phone signal. Unless we hadn’t logged into the WiFi
Very nice, enjoyed my stay.
Great place to stay.
lovely grounds polite staff
walls are thin you can hear everything but clean and good value for the price. Breakfast could be better but again included so cannot grumble. would stay again
Upgraded to the main house which was nice, but rooms are dated with cracking walls, no air con, shower was low flow, ‘luxury coconut shampoo and body wash’ provided that is literally the cheapest type of body wash you can buy in bulk…trying to be really posh but just not quite there
All good
Been asked for proof of room at breakfast. No one else was asked. Presume it was because we had work clothes on when others had uniforms
Room was large, comfortable and clean. Bathroom was beautiful....large and clean with plenty of towels. The view from the bedroom was superb.
Meals....once again Chapters Restaurant was unavailable due to a function. Why advertise it? The buffet was limited for choice at night. The breakfast was average with overcooked sausages.
Comfortable,Clean,quiet, would definitely stay again
The location is great
The cleanliness of the room, stains on the seat in the room look highly questionable or unhygienic. Shower is mouldy and silicone is peeling away.
Always love staying here. It has such a lovely feeling about it and it’s just a beautiful setting.
Water pressure could be a little better in the shower, but that’s all I could really think of.
Great location for our stay. Lovely peaceful surroundings. Good sized room, clean and comfortable. Price was very competitive, also included breakfast. Plenty of parking. Definitely recommend, and would certainly stay again.
The house is impressive. Although there was a wedding as we arrived, it was extremely quiet. We stayed in a Superior twin room, which was generous sized and a spacious shower room. Breakfast selection was excellent, with lots of fresh fruit options, continental and cooked breakfast on offer.
Only minor points, but check out time was confusing. We were originally told 9am, then found it was 10.30 (maybe depending on where you stay?) Breakfast was lovely, but we were expected to collect our own cutlery and clear our trays away afterwards, which I’ve never come across as a hotel of this standard before. The lift was tiny (there are a lot of very wide stairs!) so we gave up waiting when we left and used the stairs, which only had a hand rail on one side. Unfortunately, the side with the handrail was being decorated for a wedding, so it wasn’t ideal to walk down with suitcases. We were not asked if we’d like any help with our bags.
Location
No soap for sink. Check out time earlier than breakfast funish time. Surely staff at reception
Nice close location, quiet, clean. I enjoyed. Breakfast was nice.
Location, clean, quiet. And breakfast.
The room was beautiful in the old house but last time it was in modern accommodation so very different
The poached eggs at breakfast were very over done
Beautiful grounds, breakfast was lovely and the security welcomed us and showed us to our room during our late arrival. Gym facilities were also superb.
The bathroom sink in the room was poorly fitted. Turning the tap on would flood the floors as there were loose pipes. The bedroom drapes were also stained with a white substance which was quite off putting
This is a lovely hotel, beautiful grounds with spacious and nicely decorated rooms
Nothing
Location is beautiful.
Breakfast is usually very good. We arrived just before 9am to be told that they finished at 9am & we were presented with dried up hard bacon & sausage & no fried eggs. I accept that we were last minute but we weren't late. It didn't help that the member of staff who spoke to us was clearly not pleased that we had arrived at all! Our room was internal, no outside window & did not smell fresh! Shower was cold. Bedside lamp not working. Not good.
Inside space and garden.
Breakfast in a separate building and climbing up stairs to reach there.
The reception and bar staff were very friendly and helpful which made the whole stay much more relaxed and enjoyable. The room was very clean and tidy, with a lovely view over the Bowling Green.
We were served breakfast on cold plates, which meant the food went cold pretty quickly and was a shame as the quality was good otherwise.
Piękna okolica
Czystość łazienki i pokoju
Świetna lokalizacja dookoła zieleń cisza i spokój. Duze okno z widokiem Piekne miejsce .
Brakowało przy lustrze w lazience dodatkowego
Cisza,spokoj,swieze powietrze,mila obsluga i na recepcji i na stolowce,codziennie byla pani ktora nam posprzatala.Niczego bam nie brakowalo.Duzy plus to ogrzewanie w lazience.
Nie bylo gniazdka elektrycznego kolo naszych lozek a to by sie przydalo
Dirty bathrooms and bed sheets
Terrible staff, no support or empathy for issues we encountered. Take the money and ignore the customer. Strongly advise to stay elsewhere.
Location was good with its own very large grounds which were well looked after, a big bonus allowing walks without having to go far else where. Breakfast was excellent and well worth having on site.
Rooms were cramped and the bathroom was very small with the taps like we were in school, push and auto stop only problem was the water came out like a rapid ride speed and you get a free shower. TBF on complaint they changed our room to a very decent one so well redeemed. So it will be a lottery what type of room you may get.
The accommodation, the facilities, the location, the food. All top notch
Nothing
Great selection of hot & cold
Lovely setting and excellent friendly staff
Beds a tad hard for me personally
Booked it last minute for open day at Harper Adam’s , really close beautiful stunning setting did just what we wanted a hidden gem really
Easy access to the gymm
Shower dirty and didnt work well. Very basic for the price
Room is functional and comfortable. Breakfast is fantastic - designed for athletes with health in mind and plenty of choices, vegan to carnivore! Beautiful grounds, restful spaces. Quiet. Friendly helpful staff.
This time it was very hot, so room very warm. Also a shower leak from up above - fixed by team, but had to hang around after a long drive. Parking spaces can be a challenge.
The grounds are stunning
Bit remote and signal is hit and miss
A charming hotel, an excellent treat. The house, where I stayed is beautiful, tranquil and overlooks the most scenic gardens. Such friendly staff that makes all the difference to a superb stay..So glad to have found it.
No faults.
Brilliant
Only thing room was hot.could of done with fan
Nice view and convenient location
Double Socket was hanging loose off wall above table which seems rather unsafe and the mattress didn’t actually fit the bed, which meant bashing your legs getting in & out.
Almost everything
Check out time which is 9.30
Lovely clean room. Excellent breakfast. Friendly helpful staff.
The room was a little hot but did have a fan.
Great Breakfast Staff fantastic
Beautiful setting, huge room with an unusual picture window, perfect to admire the view. The bath taps in the bathroom need attention, hard to turn off. A super kingsize bed, really comfortable. Laundry room was a bonus. Loved our stay and will return.
Nothing
Easy access to sports centre
Standard rooms. Small bathroom
Very clean and quiet
Nothing
The property and the grounds are absolutely stunning, the rooms are beautiful as is the main house with period features, The rooms were cleaned to a very high standard breakfast was delicious and the staff were fantastic I would highly recommend and would and will stay again
Everything
The location is such a surprise and totally stunning!
Everything
Room very hot. A fan would have been nice
Clean, efficient, easy parking, very pleasant grounds.
Lovely room, comfortable beds, very quiet with superb grounds and gardens for an evening walk. Plenty of options for breakfast.
Nothing, all was great.
Very beautiful place. Super clean. Amazing breakfast!
The hotel castle was beautiful. The gardens amazing
The breakfast was horrible. Packet eggs it tasted like, mushrooms no flavour but of the water. Meat was next to cheese. Being Muslim i dient dare have any cheese as it was right next to pork food
Everything. Best breakfast I’ve had in a hotel at this price level. Free parking.
The breakfast area was in a different building. A problem if it had been raining
The facilities were perfect
Outstanding in all respects! The breakfast in particular was superb
The superb views and grounds. Also lovely staff
Bathroom very small and basuc
Stunning location and gardens to walk around. Rooms were a good size, clean and well looked after.
I believe there are two entrances to the site, the postcode on this site and Google maps doesn't bring you to the hotel it trails off into a field. The only indication is the turning for the golf course, which is obviously not where you are staying and there are no signs to indicate otherwise. However I turned into that road and eventually drove past the golf club and ended up at the conference site. Parked up and assumed I needed to find reception in one of the buildings up the hill again not well sign posted. Arriving at 1930, I found that the restaurant was closed so that was pretty annoying after a long day, I was left with the cafe food for an evening meal. Simple things that could easily be remedied. Onther that that a nice stay.
Location, grounds, staff very helpful, EV charging on site, really quiet
Can’t think of much, perhaps running out of food at the cafe with dance event on?
Location and grounds were beautiful
There was no airflow/ aircon in our room. There was no window to open to cool it down. We were in a sweat box. I had to go and ask for upgrade or fan and was sent back with a desktop office fan which did nothing for a twin room.
Clean. Good parking. Modern bedroom. Beautiful grounds.
Bedroom aircon failed to work. No instructions. No bathroom light switch. No openable bedroom window.
Location
Lack of air conditioning during a heatwave made it a bit uncomfortable to sleep
The room was adequate, the curtains had some holes in them, the bar of soap was so small it broke into four pieces on first use. Breakfast was disappointing. My husband had a cooked breakfast and it was all very over cooked. I had fruit with yogurt but was disappointed that it was tinned fruit.
The bed could have been softer, the mattress was extremely hard.
Lovely building, nice staff, great location. Good food
Ok, here we go. Room view over inside corridor. No opening window. Aircon broken and not told until 2030 that it couldn’t be fixed. No spare room so stuck in temperature in access of 40 degrees with no air. Felt unwell all night.
Beautiful grounds
Sadly the heatwave made the room hot
The staff were friendly, the bed was comfortable enough for one night and breakfast was good.
here had obviously been some kind of flood recently, the carpets were damaged and smelled strongly of sewerage and dampness, which permeated through the corridors and the room. In the morning the shower became very cold very quickly, the plumbing does not appear to be able to cope with multiple people using showers at a similar time. We raised the issue and were told no one else had experienced it which I struggle to believe. The manager did come to take a look and we waited until after breakfast to try again. We ended up being late for our conference and still ended up having a cold shower. Parking right at the hotel is limited, you may have a bit of a walk to your accommodation which is awkward if you are carrying luggage. You may be better off checking in, then taking your car up to as close to your room as possible, unloading and then taking your car back to the car park.
clean room overlooking stunning grounds.
The catering provision was very poor with limited/no stock and closed very early.
What a gem of a place (once we had managed to find it, directions were pretty sparse). Lovely comfortable room with all the amenities, great ensuite, beautiful gardens and an excellent breakfast. All for a very reasonable price. Staff were lovely and helpful. Thank you!
Beautiful location. Room had everything we needed and was very comfy. Good value for money especially as we had a lovely breakfast as well.
Fab room, huge, clean, comfy, high class. Great breakfast.
Nothing.
Great grounds
Very hot - no fans
My room Deluxe Double was nice, however would not say Deluxe. Apart from the stand alone bath there weren't any 'Deluxe' offerings above a standard double room. Staff were very good, nice polite and helpful considering how busy it felt.
Where to start... My colleagues room was basic, more like student accommodation. Think it should be stated when booing a room that is not in the main house that that is the case and how far away from the restaurant/bar it is. That leads nicely to the restaurant...we had planned to have dinner in the Sutherland Restaurants. When booking on arrival were advised the restaurant was closed as a private function had taken over the space and the kitchen could not couple with a function and private dining. Dinner options were the café (pizza, sandwiches, jacket potatoes), we had already had lunch there so didn't want to repeat. The servery (canteen style - basic student canteen) £20 per head open 6pm-7:30pm, reception recommended to go in before 7pm as 'the kids' will have picked over everything by then. Or finally uber eats! We opted for the servery....over cooked, bland and basic. Desert options, small pieces of cakes or brownies. The bar area was overcrowded. Hosting a book club as well as welcome drinks for the function. the few seats in reception were occupied by other guests. My colleague and I ended up sitting outside in the drizzling rain! Breakfast was also served in the servery canteen style. All the basics but again bland. In summary the main hotel is beautiful, staff great. Not a traditional Hotel. Conference and sports centre - yes. Would not stay again. If I had been told prior to arrival that the restaurant was not available I would have cancelled.
The view of the garden from the window. Breakfast very good.
Few fixtures loose, ie toilet roll holder.
Lack of air conditioning in dining spaces.
The grounds were beautiful
The view space comfortable beds
Gardens stunning and location for our event.
Faulty door lock and unable to lock room door on first night. Only over head rain shower working not hand held head and temperature regulation not working ending up in a cold shower not what i would expect for a £100 a night room. Also parking near the hotel rooms was limited although free.
we like it all
the room didnt have air con and bed was small
The character of an old building and location
Lift not working, room not cleaned when after we checked in. As the hotel was really busy it took a long time to locate another room. Breakfast was adequate but there was a long queue as they ran out of everything and there was a delay. Restaurant in the hotel at evening meal had very slow service despite only a few people in and the food was only passable. No food left at the cafe the following evening either
Lovely setting
That we were put in 2 separate hotels
It was clean and everything worked - could have spent the whole day in the shower !
The view from the room
The location and grounds are lovely
We booked a superior double room which was beautiful, but at the same time I booked a twin which was meant to be in the same building, but instead was in what I can only describe as a horrible dorm room! It was awful, very dated and definitely not what I booked at all.
Nothing
Food was awful like budget school dinners Facilities very basic Tiny unclear tv No water in room Gym times awful what gym has the first hour booked out privately Hotel guests want 6am latest to train before work not have access until 8am is very very poor
Loved the area, seeing all the squirrels was amazing, the room all be it budget was very spacious, clean and comfortable.
Disappointed that we were unable to have an evening meal in the restaurant as it was closed it would have been good if we were told in advance, yes there was a cafe that sold pizza, panini's etc but after travelling for over 4 hours a hot meal would have been nice.
Beautiful place. Clean and tidy with exceptional grounds. Staff friendly and helpful. Great selection on the breakfast buffet of botb hot and cold foods..
The cleanliness of the property was outstanding! The staff were always happy to help and the location is stunning!
The only thing I would say about the room is the shower isn’t all that powerful…
Nice location and room
Second time at this property in recent weeks. It is set in beautiful grounds and is very good value.
Lovely room, great shower and Breakfast was good.
Only a minor thing but Literally every door bangs unless people make the effort to gently close them and of course most people don’t , obviously it’s a period property so options are limited but would be wonderful if they were less loud. As we were staying in a room in front of the entrance door upstairs it kept waking my child up.
Beautiful listed building, lovely grounds, very pleasant staff. Room was lovely.
Location and beautiful surroundings
Breakfast was really not good - especially for a national sports centre. The majority group I was with felt quite uncomfortable after eating just a little from the rather unappetising breakfast selection. We are due to stay here again for sports reasons and may bring our own things.
Our fourth stay that says it all
Great facility, excellent breakfast
Slightly annoying that the light in the bathroom came on automatically. Bit intrusive in the middle of the night.
Staff were lovely.
The bed was small and not too comfy.
Everything
Nothing
The grounds are wonderful. The old house was like a boutique hotel. Very well presented and comfortable. Breakfast was great! An absolute no brainer to stay here if you are here for any type of sports event. Staff were excellent.
My only criticisms are: 1-We stayed during the heatwave. When we checked in, the radiator in the room was on full blast. Switched that straight off. However we only had 1 window which wouldn’t fully open (safety feature) so could get no air in I eventually rang down to reception (see point 2) to ask for a fan, and the duty manager said that he expected they would have all been allocated out by now (it was around 10pm) but if he had one he would bring it to the room. I found, the next morning, a fan in our wardrobe. My bad for not checking, but equally would’ve expected the night manager to say “is there not one in your wardrobe?” 2-there was a phone in our room, but with no connection whatsoever!! For any type of calls. It was plugged in, but nothing. Random. 3-not a criticism of the hotel at all, but trust your satnav. You will feel like you are in the middle of nowhere, and then drive through a golf club, but just keep going!
It was nice and in good surroundings.
The shower water was either boiling or freezing cold and the thermostat valve could not be set at a stable temperature.
We stayed in the beautiful old house in a huge room. First class stay. Staff were wonderful. A problem we had with the bathroom door was dealt with quickly and by very friendly people. Our stay exceeded our expectations and was excellent value. Food was great too.
Everything was fabulous
Location and staff. And the breakfasts!
Bed covers to bulky and pillow cover mal fitted. The bath room not very clean small and and light stays on or automatic annoying . Very very hot in the rooms when warm temp day

What guests love
Areas to consider
Cleanliness
9/10Consistently praised across reviews: 'lovely clean room', 'cleaned to a very high standard', 'super clean' — cleanliness is a clear strength.
Service
8.8/10Multiple mentions of friendly, helpful and efficient staff and a particularly helpful receptionist; service is a strong positive overall.
Location
7.8/10Stunning setting and grounds frequently praised, with superb views — however several guests reported poor signage and difficulty finding the property, which reduces the score slightly.
Room Quality
8.4/10Rooms described as beautiful, spacious in some cases and very comfortable beds; some negatives (small bathrooms for certain rooms, rooms reported as too hot) temper the score.
Amenities
8.4/10Good on practical amenities: laundry room, free parking, EV charging, access to sports centre noted. Some logistical issues (breakfast in separate building) mentioned but overall positive.
Value for Money
8.6/10Several guests explicitly called it good value (‘tremendous value for money’); free parking and quality of grounds/rooms support a strong value perception.
Food and Beverage
6/10Mixed reports: many guests praised an excellent breakfast, but there are notable negative comments (poor quality/badly prepared items, breakfast in separate building, restaurant/cafe closures or running out of food) leading to a below-average score.
Overall Experience
8.6/10Majority of stays described as extremely enjoyable, comfortable and likely to return; overall very positive guest experience despite some specific issues noted above.
