The pool was a great addition to the hotel, Kelly in the breakfast room was fabulous.

Room was tiny, the whole hotel and little tired. Not worth the money we paid,

Location was great, fun to have bunkbeds for little ones and our bed was very comfortable.

The room we stayed in was quite dated and not overly clean, hotel overall could do with an update the staff were good but you can see that it is understaffed. We also wasnt asked how are stay was.

Very tired, needs updating. Wasn’t worth the money we paid. The room was so small and hot. The fan provided in the room was full of dust so we couldn’t use it. The bathroom blind was extremely dusty and stuck open, no privacy when using the bathroom.

Our room was very small as was the bathroom and the overall appearance of the decor is somewhat tired. I felt that £170 for the room without breakfast was a bit expensive

Staff very friendly, especially in the breakfast room. They helped my 8 year old grandson do a surprise birthday for me. Much appreciated. Very good continental breakfast with a good choice of cereals, fruit, ham, cheese, boiled eggs and pastries etc (I can recommend the pains chocolat) Nice swimming pool and changing room facilities. The evening menu is short but the food was good. Comfortable lounges and bar, with an outside terrace Plenty of parking available. A short walk into Lyndhurst (10 minutes) and a nice pub 200m The hotel welcomes children and dogs and feels very comfortable in a slightly old fashioned way - no Scandi-chic here, but that makes it more relaxing.

Paid £250 for a room and breakfast. When we had breakfast it was only for continental and the choice wasn't good atall. None of the kids ate. The room was very run down and small. Didn't expect that for £250 for one night. Bed was hard. Swimming pool was feezing so my kids didnt get in. Very run down inside. Disappointed

The outside was clean and tidy

The location is excellent as you can easily walk into Lyndhurst centre.

We had a family room and it was absolutely below standard. The furniture and bathroom need complete renovation, cleanliness was below standard and the children’s beds were very small (ok for toddlers). When we asked reception for options (move rooms or checkout early) they were less than helpful! The manager sitting in the backroom was consulted and could not even be bothered to come out and talk to us. In the end we transferred our booking to another hotel in the same group, but had to sort it all out ourselves. Swimming pool not clean and also needs complete renovation. Absolutely would not recommend this hotel!

The rooms were stuffy and too hot. I would have expected air conditioning at this price. The staff were friendly, but didn't take any notice of my stated food allergy - I had told them at booking, at check in, and again at the breakfast entry point, but they still didn't tell me the allergy content of the food that day, and didn't know the ingredients of the relevant breakfast items when questioned (they had found this out by the second day).

Staff, without exception, were friendly and very helpful. dining room for breakfast was good plenty of space and coffee. Room was comfortable. Plenty of car parking space.

The room was a little tired" especially the bathroom. the main bedroom was comfortable with plenty of drawer and hanging space but needed a "spruce up". Food was excellent, however, the continental breakfast was disappointing, no bread rolls and no salad type food to go with the ham and cheese. Only one plain yoghurt, no choice of flavoured yoghurts. The evening meal was good and service was quick BUT the choice was a bit limited for a 4* hotel.

The room was too hot and there was no AC. It was quite uncomfortable during a period of excessively hot weather. There was a fan and one of the staff was really helpful finding an extra fan for us which was appreciated. However for the amount you are paying for a 4 star hotel which appears to be luxurious from the information online you would expect a bit more upgrading to include AC. The rooms appeared a bit old and could do with a bit of modernisation.

The location was perfect for visiting the New Forest and all it offers. The hotel offered the use of a swimming pool which was extremely welcome given the hot weather. The staff provided a warm welcome, especially Sam, who managed the bar.

Needed a facelift! Tired furniture ( mis-matched) and decorations . Very sad given such a beautiful building.

We liked the location and the fact that there was plenty of parking. We had a family room and it was spacious and clean.

We didn’t like the fact that the cooked breakfast had an additional cost: £10 per choice is a bit steep. We also didn’t like the smell of pond at the indoor pool

The location is excellent for exploring the New Forrest, and close to some great beaches. You can walk into town and explore the shops / pubs etc too. also, the breakfast was good and the staff / other guests were friendly.

The heat. We stayed during a hot spell and the rooms have no air con, despite this being described as a 4* hotel. They only supply a weak fan. It was really uncomfortable and many guests found it hard to sleep. If you stay in summer, take a decent fan with you.

The breakfast was very nice with plenty of choice on the continental option and a good choice with cooked option if you wanted it, the room was very comfortable unfortunately we were there during a heatwave and found the room unbearable to sleep in or be in fans were provided we would love to stay again in cooler weather

Shower curtain very dirty, shower pressure poor. Many stairs to first floor. Sent message via booking.com confirmed as sent but property said no message received and no room on ground floor for elderly relative allocated as requested. Steps up and down to access pool. On arrival asked to book time for breakfast but only slots before 07.45 available . All carpet needs replacing , room carpet dirty and worn.

It was a little dated. If you are looking for bling and brand new fittings and fixtures this isn’t it. Good quality older furniture. Kids beds were great in our room as it gave us a sense of privacy.

Breakfast service completely unacceptable, shown to a dirty table,told it would be cleaned,spoke to staff order coffee never turned up,spoke to staff about coffee not arriving was told not my fault and why wasn’t the table cleaned just stood making excuses,so walked out.

Good location and place to rest after a long day of exploring at New Forest. Free parking with great restaurants around. We have a dog and two kids, the staff has made us at ease, and water refills are easily accessible.

Mattress was far too soft and old with cheap/collapsed open coil springs internally. I slept on the kids bunk beds which were firmer and more supported, but the small metal frame meant I couldn't fit properly and hitting the metal every time I turned, but it was still better than the marshmallow experience.

Filthy sticky handrails - especially on way to the pool. Pool was murky and felt very unclean. Sauna was broken. The place was dated.

The shower was very poor and I ordered a breakfast and the waitress forgot to tell the kitchen.I was waiting ages for it and it never arrived.By that time I was ready to leave and eat in the town.

The location is great, good local pubs, a lovely park, peaceful and very local to the town.

There was a funny smell in the bedroom which made it uncomfortable to sleep in.

We booked breakfast included but this was only a continental breakfast of which there was a poor choice. It says the hotel is dog friendly but it doesn’t feel that way.

Good location close to the centre of Lyndhurst and other areas of the New Forest. Swimming pool was clean and the children had a great time.

A continental breakfast was included in our package but you had to pay extra for a cooked breakfast. The continental breakfast options were very limited. The bedroom was clean and tidy but the carpets need updating and my son said the mattress on the bunk bed was uncomfortable. Hotel price was expensive for 1 night’s stay.

Wonderful surroundings in New Forest. Great parking.

No room service, no cleaning. House has no sound insulation, you can hear everything that goes on beside your room and above and below. Corridor extremely loud.

We liked the buffet breakfast as there was a fairly good choice of food. The location was good as we were able to walk into Lyndhurst for evening meals and bars. The swimming pool was good and the changing rooms were adequate; a bench in the changing rooms would have been helpful. The quiet room was a welcome relief from noisy and misbehaving children in the breakfast room!

I was under the impression when booking this hotel that 'Breakfast included' meant a full English breakfast and not a continental breakfast, as was the case. If we wanted a full English breakfast then there was an additional charge of £10 per person. This should have been made clear at the booking stage, as we would probably have not booked this hotel for that reason alone.

Staff were lovely, Room was fine but basic. Breakfast was ok, but we asked for sauces and they were eventually brought over when we had almost finished. Would be better if there was a help yourself station.

Very convenient location for Lyndhurst and surrounding area. The continental breakfast was very good and the staff very attentive.

Beginning to show its age. The hot water system needs a bit of an update, low pressure and not very warm water.Some of the carpets need replacing.

Lovely stay. Staff were so nice and really made our stay.

My only complaint was the corridor light remained on all night and shone under the door. I had to put a towel at the bottom of the door to block some of the light.

Hotel was nice, a bit dated in places but this didn't ruin the stay. Swimming pool was lovely.

Rooms either side of us were very noisy until around 11.30pm which woke our sleeping child several times. And then again in the morning with children running up and down the corridor.

Great location, so peaceful at night and in the morning, surrounded by nature. Great service, food options (restaurant in the hotel), we stayed for one night for a little getaway and had a continental breakfast which was very lovely. We tried the pool and the water was good temperature.

The rooms and the swimming pool area are in need of some TLC. It was all clean, but perhaps some TLC at least in the bathrooms and also definitely more chairs or loungers around the pool area.

It was a very nice place to stay, the room was nice and clean. The bed was clean and comfortable. It had tea and coffee with fresh milk if required. The room temperature was perfect.

No house keeping, kept having to ask for breakfast items and room coffee items not supplied until requested. Cooked breakfast not value for money.

Das Zimmer war sehr (!) schmutzig doch das Badezimmer war die Härte, schmutzig und abgenutzt ist nur der Vorname, die Matrazen waren mehr als schrecklich (defekt, nicht einfach nur benutzt), neue Duschtücher oder Zimmerreinigung gabs nicht, Kaffee und Tee hätte an der Rezeption geholt werden müssen, das Frühstück war am absoluten Minimum (warme Speisen kosten extra) und das Personal war alles andere als freundlich. Bei uns war der Pool in Revison. Wir wurden rechtzeitig darüber informiert was für uns passte. Als Alternative hätten wir den Pool des Schwesterhotels benutzen dürfen. Am Abend hatte uns die Mitarbeiterin unseres Hotels telefonisch beim Schwesterhotel angemeldet ( ich stand beim Telefonat daneben). Als wir beim Schwesterhotel ankamen wurden wir an der Rezeption richtig unfreundlich oder besser noch verachtend behandelt. Dennoch bekammen wir nach mehrfachem nachfragen den Pin-Code für den Pool. Als wir den Vorraum des Pool gefunden hatten wurde uns gesagt, dass wir uns im WC umziehen müssen.Auch hier, dreckig ist untertrieben. Mit zwei zugedrückten Augen haben wir uns dann umgezogen. In Badehosen betraten wir den Raum mit dem Pool. Überraschung, am Poolrand sass eine junge Frau, die uns höfflich darauf aufmerksam machte, dass der Pool geschlossen ist bzw. aktuell nur für Kinder-Schwimmkurse genutzt wird. Als ich die unfreudliche Rezeptionistin mit dieser Situation konfrontierte, war sie sichtlich unbeeindruckt. Auch die Mitarbeiter der Forest Lodge füllten sich absolut nicht in der Verantwortung... schlechter Gästeservice wie im Bilderbuch!

Breakfast was excellent, really great menu choices. The entire hotel staff team were super friendly and could not do enough to ensure each guest had a memorable stay. The position of the hotel made walking into the town so easy. The bar and lounge areas had a good atmosphere.

The bedroom was a little small as was the shower.

Location was great but the breakfast not so much the buffet was fine but the cooked questionable .. asked for a poached egg it just arrived wet and alone slipped onto a plate with no toast or anything . I know u could make your own but the chef could have done it and presented it better it will just get cold while I have to wait for the toast ..

The catering I feel is a problem and lack of enough decent chefs . Some were seated for Christmas lunch at 1.30 and didn’t get any food before nearly 3 o clock . Some customers were offered extra bowls of veg and greens and others were not . The veg was not well done the parsnips were hard and minuscule , no sauces were offered like cranberry etc and my dad was disappointed with a small Christmas pudding slopped in custard ?! No flambé or brandy butter ? The wait and lack of decent veg, no sprouts but a wilted spring onion and a pile of parsley was odd .. plus the pigs in blankets were not cooked well the sausage was white ! and no Brandy butter was a disappointment. How ever over all the staff were very kind and friendly .plus the bar food was over priced and lacking . I couldn’t eat the pizza and I heard one customer ordered “ hearty beef and there was no beef and the same with the stroganoff ?!

Only problem was the noise when trying to sleep with the refrigeration unit for the bar outside window emitted constant hum which seemed louder at night.

The location was good, and it was good having a pool.

We feel we got the worst room in the hotel! Room 5 was dark, grubby, there were cobwebs in the bathroom and the bedroom. The bathroom was old and not very appetising! The bedroom window was either closed or fully open, you could not have it part open as the mechanism would not hold the window in any other position apart from open. We paid £209 for a four poster/family room, the write up however was misleading and talked as if we were getting a four poster, which we had hoped would be the case. We ended up with a grubby family room. When we came to have breakfast, we were told our room came with a continental breakfast only. Booking.com advert clearly said breakfast included, not continental breakfast as we were told that’s all we were entitled to. My wife did get her bacon mushroom and tomato in the end, however you will see from the photograph, It was literally a piece of bacon, part of a tomato and a mushroom! The photographs were very misleading making the room look far more clean and inviting than it actually was. Oh, and one thing, the bathroom ceiling was stained and marked and paint was flaking, obviously there must have been a leak or years worth of condensation build up. Would we stay again? Absolutely not, and we do wonder whether Booking.com customers get the runt of the rooms! The lady who dealt with us on reception was pleasant enough, however she had only been in the job two weeks and we don’t feel that she had had the training to deal with our experiences correctly.

The continental breakfast was healthy and well presented although restocking of various items tended to be a bit slow. I overall we had a very enjoyable stay and will certainly be returning in the future.

As mentioned above the only thing which could be improved is that a closer eye on items running low could be monitored more closely.

Deeply disappointing from the moment we arrived. The experience went downhill as soon as we stepped onto the premises. The windows were filthy, and it only got worse from there. The main mattress was stained, and the bunk beds were completely unsuitable for children — clearly damaged, infant-sized, and looked like something handmade in the 1970s, then repaired and varnished repeatedly over the last 50 years. It was honestly shocking. The walls, ceiling, and furniture were filthy, old, and worn, looking like they belonged in a skip. The bathroom was disgusting, with stains on the tiles and grout covered in mould. The corridors were narrow and damaged, with scuffed walls and a generally neglected feel. The photos online — especially of the pool — were completely misleading. In reality, the property was rundown and uncared for. We were so appalled that we decided to leave in the middle of the night. This night cost us £220, but the biggest cost was to our family holiday — we returned home exhausted, disappointed, and with our plans completely disrupted. It was a miserable experience from start to finish.

Like most people staying at the hotel we thought we were having a cooker breakfast only to realise it was a basic continental breakfast. The restaurant was non existent other than pizzas. On Wednesday when we decided to have a pizza we were told that they weren't available because they were cooking for the conference people. So nothing to eat in the hotel. There was no info in the room regarding the hotel or surrounding area and the building was very tired looking as was our room. We bought the staff were pleasant.

Our room was clean and comfortable, we had a cooked and continental breakfasts, which were all plentiful and very good, we used the pool one morning and enjoyed our dip!

The breakfast room was lovely, very clean and efficiently run by the pleasant staff. Reception staff were always cheerful and helpful with any enquiries. As we were staying for 10 days we asked for another easy chair in our room and this was provided very promptly.

The bathroom was looking tired and the paint at the bottom of the door was coming off. The paintwork on the door could do with a good clean.

The location was excellent. The staff were faultless. A lovely hotel. Slightly dated but understandable for the age of the property. The rooms were comfortable apart from slightly hollow walls. The pool was great. The breakfast was tasty and plenty of variety. Cooked fresh. I would stay there again.

Just noisy from adjoining rooms and occasional slamming doors. Only one towel for showering in the bathroom.
