建屋の古さは理解していたが、 使い勝手が今ひとつ、と感じた スタッフの気遣いが、今ひとつ足りない と感じました

位置非常棒，服务非常周到，酒店历史气息浓厚

主楼的客房设施略有些陈旧，建议更新和修缮一下，提升住宿体验

歴史があり、建築が美しい。別館でもお庭が見えて景色が良い。レストランも美味しい。朝ご飯はバイキングではないので、熱々のパンやオムレツが食べられる。

一人だけ、愛想のない女性スタッフがいて少しがっかり。しかし、全体的にスタッフが教育されていてフレンドリーで丁寧。

フロントやダイニングで、スタッフの皆さまの対応がとてもハートフルで、居心地がよかったですか

バスタブがかなり痛んていたのが、残念でした。

Beautiful room with a fabulous view, very comfortable beds, great location above the Shinkyo Bridge, really interesting historical context, very attentive staff and just a beautiful old classic hotel.

食事がとても美味しかった。 お料理だけでも価値がありました。

ランチのカレーがとってもおいしかった

お部屋は清潔にはしてましたがバスタブも古くてお値段のわりにはレベルが低いです。 朝食は追加でホットケーキをたのみましたがあまりおいしくありませんでした。夕飯もいまいちでした。ほとんど残しました。

Amazing location and very nice design. One of the staff was speaking perfectly French. The bar is nice.

普通のお部屋に泊まりましたが、外の景色と部屋の中の色合いが非常に良く、非日常感が手頃に味わえるのが凄くよかったです。朝食もとても美味しく、スタッフの方の対応は皆さん気持ちの良いものでした。また伺いたいです。

エントランスロビーの匂いが少し独特で気になったので、樹木系の香りで工夫されても良いのかなと思いました。

クラシックホテルの伝統を感じながら落ち着いた日を過ごせました。

We loved the traditional heritage atmosphere, the impeccable service, the elegant facilities, the excellent cuisine, and the outstanding bar. The location is equally exceptional, adding to the exclusive ambiance. Everything was flawless, memorable, and truly unique.

L’ambiance du lieu est authentique, on est comme transporté dans un autre monde. Le personnel est très prévenant, poli, serviable, c’est un plaisir d’être accueilli par eux. Et que dire du petit déjeuner qui est excellent! Le bar est aussi très appréciable, surtout lorsque l’on ne peut pas sortir manger le soir car il y a un ours dans la zone et que tout le monde est appelé à rester chez soi!

Our stay at the Kanaya main building was fantastic. The old world charm of the main building, deluxe room and dining room are mostly still intact with delightful old furniture, beautiful old wooden flooring, a magnificent staircase and also a very charming bar at the ground floor. During our stay we heard that a full renovation is foreseen in the near future and we are extremely worried that all this charm will disappear as we have witnessed in the much less attractive and modern annex building. As almost always the case, once an entire renovation is done the spirit of the building draped in its very rich history disappears forever with it. We sincerely hope that the owners of the hotel equally cherish this heritage and will limit the foreseen renovation to the required minimum keeping this beautiful old world charm that makes a stay at Kanaya so unique.

Le bâtiment principal de l'hôtel Kanaya, dans son état actuel, date de 1936, et l'Annexe de 1935. Contrairement à beaucoup de voyageurs nous avons préféré loger dans une chambre Deluxe dans le bâtiment principal, avec son mobilier ancien, plutôt que dans l'Annexe qui a été rénovée. Nous avons visité cette dernière: comme souvent, les rénovations enlèvent aux monuments historiques tout leur charme et leur singularité, au prix de la banalisation, en les alignant sur les standards internationaux. Or on ne se rend pas au Kanaya pour trouver un confort identique à ce qu'on trouve partout ailleurs, mais pour se plonger dans une atmosphère unique, que certains peuvent juger vieillotte ou surannée alors qu'elle nous a enchantés. Oui l'hôtel est un peu décati par endroits, mais il suffirait d'une couche de peinture sur les murs et les plafonds des couloirs, et d'une nouvelle couche de vernis sur le parquet de la salle à manger (magnifique, et cuisine délicieuse) pour le rafraîchir. Le bar est exceptionnel, avec une cheminée qui semble dessinée par Frank Lloyd Wright. Nous avons aimé jusqu'aux gros canapés de Skaï brun du salon du rez-de-chaussée, qui témoignent d'aménagements ultérieurs, sans doute des années 1970. Le Kanaya est fait de toutes ces couches d'histoire. Nous avons été consternés d'apprendre que l'hôtel fermerait en avril 2027 pour environ un an de travaux de rénovation, qui risquent de dissiper toute sa magie atmosphérique si le bâtiment principal est refait sur le modèle de l'Annexe. Apparemment seule la façade de l'hôtel et quelques espaces intérieurs sont classés. Nous aimerions que les propriétaires comprennent qu'un grand nombre de clients viennent au Kanaya pour son charme désuet et son service à l'ancienne, à l'image de sa clientèle japonaise élégante et discrète. Le rafraîchissement oui, la rénovation non. Le Kanaya, justement fier de son histoire, ne doit pas l'altérer.

The hotel is a traditional building, which reflects its history through many photographs on display. It is in a superb positional, making it walkable to important Shrines and Temples. There is a bus stop, very close to the hotel. The staff were friendly, helpful and welcoming.

The hotel is a little dated and l understand it will be closing soon for a full refurbishment; which is needed in some areas. I hope the history and traditional feel of the hotel is maintained.

観光だけでなく、ホテルでも歴史を楽しめる場所。素晴らしい立地条件。スタッフがとにかく素晴らしい。どんな質問にも快く対応してくれました。それに、大きいコマーシャルホテルにない雰囲気を感じました。

入り口の坂は、一日歩いて観光したあとは、ちょっときついかも。でも、それも味と言えるかも。

Very old - I understand that it is historical building with lots of history but I still thinking its important to keep hotel in good shape. The room was very old and dated. Could done a good renovation for what I paid for.

Loved the historic feel of the property and the original features that have been retained yet the bedroom and bathroom was up to date and very comfortable. The location of the hotel is also perfect, only a short walk to the UNESCO world heritage site with all the shrines and temples.

They offer a set menu breakfast served in a beautiful room with lovely views served by an attentive staff.

This hotel is amazing, located within walking distance of the temples, right next to the tourist bus stop. The staff really focus on making sure you have everything, and are very helpful. This is the oldest western hotel in Japan and it is full of style. We had an inclusive package with dinner, and it was a 5 star dinner, full silver service, we are still buzzing. The bar is cosy and full of old charm.

Beautiful old hotel, exceptionally helpful and friendly staff, and a lovely atmospheric bar area as well, the restaurant looked nice but we did not eat here. It is right next to the world heritage area for Shinkyo Bridge, Tosho Gu and the other shrines and just a short walk down into the town and up to Tamozawa Imperial Villa and other restaurants. We stayed in the annex and the views were beautiful. Special mention to the delicious coffee in the room too 👍

歴史があるホテルであることは知っていましたが、予想以上にそのまま状態で残っていました。まるで映画に出てくる古いホテルのようでとても貴重な時間を過ごすことができました。

An iconic historic hotel at a very central location close to the Shinkyo Bridge and World Heritage Site

At first we were given an unrenovated room which was pretty run down for a superior twin room with old bathroom, heating pipes visible and paint coming off the walls. Upon complaining we were given a much nicer room in the adjacent building, renovated in 2023 by a very understanding receptionist, who noted that the whole hotel is up for complete renovation next year.

Just a great place. It was a splurge for us and worth it; we loved the atmosphere of a historic hotel. Our room was spacious and comfortable with a wonderful view of the mountains. The staff were very friendly, attentive and helpful. We enjoyed wandering the various corridors of the hotel and the lovely grounds. The included Western breakfast was good, but we paid the supplement for the Japanese breakfast and it was fantastic. Excellent location with in easy walking distance of the main shrines.

Wonderful stay at Nikko Kanaya! We loved everything

歴史を感じさせる風格、従業員の方の丁寧な対応、おいしい料理、雰囲気のあるバー、館内の案内ツアー等、すべて良かったです。

We stayed two nights in one of the older rooms in the original building and although the bathroom and furniture is dated, the room was clean, very spacious and light. We liked that the window could open and had a mosquito net in it. Our reservation included breakfast and dinner and we loved the delicious food and impeccable service and table setting. The hotel has so much atmosphere and is in such great location and the staff is very attentive and welcoming. We would like to come back.

It would be nice if the older rooms were updated with some tasteful furniture and some decoration on the walls. It all looked quite spare. It seems a waste not to make these rooms more attractive.

Beautiful large room, ready walk to temples

I was lucky to stay in the main building and really appreciated the atmosphere, old furniture, and careful service. The view from my room was exquisite.

Two beds no chice for a single bed.

The history of the hotel is everywhere...beautiful from the outside. The view from my room was beautiful. The rooms are clean, just very faded. The huge windows were beautifully spotless providing excellent views of the outside. Peaceful location close to the Shinkyo Bridge and Nikko Toshogu Shrine. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The meals were good, but way over priced.

Unfortunately the history is everywhere. The property is pretty run down... It feels like it has not been cared for since the 1930s. It has tons of potential, but needs a lot of investment to bring it back to its former glory days. Though the location is convenient for sight seeing, everything around closes by 4 or 5 pm so you are obligated to to eat in their restaurant. The food is good, but overpriced. The walk up the hill from the street is killer.

Perfect location in a very picturesque area, beautiful walking path. Comfortable and spacious room. Classy dinner and breakfast with silver cutlery and porcelain, served in the " imperial" style

This is an old historical building, therefore the rooms are pretty old and worn out .. there is a certain charm, but it is lost with outside temperatures below zero . The heating ( which was build in 1905) was not working and the aircon in the corner was not doing the job and the windows and doors let all the air in .

Hotel de charme style vintage étant le plus ancien hôtel du Japon. Location idéale près des temples et du fameux pont. Très bon petit déjeuner et dîner. Service très attentif et de qualité tant à la réception que du personnel du restaurant.Navette pour aller au lac à 45 minutes de Nikko qui est magnifique

Beautiful hotel with a classic look and feel! It was a bit dated in some aspects but that was part of the charm for us. Loved being so close to everything and the staircase down to the river was a big hit for the kids!

Some of the carpets could have used replacement but very comfortable and cozy.

It's classic elegance and refined style was a return to a different era.

良くないという程ではありませんが、道路からホテルの玄関までの坂道が結構急です。

Ein schönes Hotel mit viel Geschichten. Klar ist der älteste Hotel Japan. Sehr sauber. Das Hotel personal Super und die Lage ist perfekt. Die Sehenswürdigkeiten sind sehr nah.

やはり品格を感じます、食事も朝夕美味しく頂きました。早く着いたのでお昼ご飯にカレーも頂きました❗ お部屋も隣の音も聞こえず静かなお部屋でした。

足の不自由な母にはちょっと階段が難しかった様で、ゆっくり杖をつきながらで大変そうでした。

Location was great. We had a corner room in the Annex and the views on both sides were awesome! The room was quite big that can actually accommodate 4 persons. I also love the all-white bathroom!.. Just had a goosebumps and felt so privileged when the staff who escorted us to the room mentioned that Helen Keller stayed on the same room.. Worth mentioning is the Afternoon Tea, a bit pricey but was excellent. Staff were polite and speak English well..

The heater took so long to adjust to the desired setting. So, ended up turning it off and restarted again.
