Good location
Tired decor
The location was incredible. The bed was very very comfortable. The staff was very friendly and helpful.
Absolutely nothing. It was exceptional. We would go back anytime in Stratford
Charming Historic Character: The inn has a wonderful, authentic historic vibe and personality that made the stay enjoyable despite the building's age. Plush Bathrobes: I really appreciated that bathrobes were provided in the room. This is a rare amenity in many places and was a very thoughtful touch. Comfortable Bed: The bed itself was extremely comfortable and provided a great night's sleep. Morning Coffee/Tea Station: Having complimentary coffee and tea available in the morning was a pleasant touch to start the day. Overall Atmosphere: Despite a few minor maintenance issues, the overall ambiance was welcoming and memorable.
AC Unit Location & Windows: The window air conditioner was quite old, and because it blew air directly onto the bed, I had to keep it turned off. Additionally, the windows could not be opened, which prevented any fresh air from entering the room. Bathroom Fixtures & Exhaust Fan: The shower control handle was loose and actually came off in my hand. Also, the bathroom lighting and exhaust fan are connected to a single switch, meaning the loud fan stays on continuously whenever the light is on. Having a separate switch for the fan would be a major improvement. Room Layout & TV Visibility: Space in the room was very limited. The bed dominated the room, leaving only narrow pathways. Additionally, one of the bedposts directly blocked the line of sight to the television. Lack of Breakfast: I was disappointed to find no full breakfast served, only morning coffee and tea. It would be a great addition to bring back a proper breakfast option.
Good location, easy process to check in. Safe and quiet historical boutique Inn.
Nothing.
Location
Very home-like atmosphere. Clean, quiet and comfortable. Friendly. Great location, walk-distance to everything of importance in Stratford.
Nothing major.
Excellent location, short walk to main drag, and Avon Theatre, is the only good thing about this venue.
There was no host our entire stay. Tim did not reply to my email before our arrival, and the phone number he provided in his booking confirmation was not in service. We were fortunate a fill-in housekeeper was there to make up our room, and help carry our bags up 3 flights of stairs. Our room, The Secret Garden, was very hot, even with the noisy fan and A/C unit. I am short and even I found the low slanted ceiling in the bathroom challenging. One floor lamp was broken where the bulb screws in, there was some garbage on the carpet, tv wires propped up on an overturned recycling bin. There was only 1 regular Keurig coffee pod in the morning (thankfully there was brewed coffee downstairs, although there was no way to know this, other guests had no idea). An entire group showed up in the evening and there was no one to check them in or show them to their rooms. Most rooms weren't made up at all. It's a great location, and has the potential to be a lovely venue, but it seems to be neglected, with barebones effort from the hosts. For the hefty price, which doesn't include breakfast, I suggest you stay elsewhere.
Nothing because we didn't stay there because the owner wasn't there and the Inn was open and the rooms were not made up. It was absolutely disgraceful and we have already been in touch with you for a refund.
Nothing!!!
No bed made - old bed linens lying on the floor - no towels in bathroom & toilet dirty. No-one was at the facility and could not be contacted. We had to search & pay for a new lodging. We have reported all details to Booking.com/complaints and are looking for our money to be refunded
Location is walkable to restaurants and theatre
Everything else. Tired and neglected. No staff on site if there are issues which there were! The Innkeeper did not show up during guest check in hours and did not respond to calls or texts. Innkeeper never dis show up causing us and several other guests to leave and find accommodation elsewhere.
Location
No help with baggage up steep stairs. Tiny shower with slippery floor and no mat. No flat surfaces in bathroom for toiletries. No plug in bathroom sink. Too little light in bedroom to read or use computer.
No breakfast offered and we knew that so not a problem. very comfortable beds good location quiet .
Did not know that our room was on 3rd floor (and it was steep long staircases as rooms are likely 10 ft high); this was a challenge as I am using supplemental O2 and I carry oxygen tank and brother walks with cane for balance. No offer to carry up luggage but I understand why as inn keeper had recently had heart surgery. Ignoring our personal health challenges....I really think in every room there should be sign confirming address and how to telephone inn keepers. IF someone had heart attack they need to be able to call 911 quickly and say where they are...in a panic they might forget address or even name of inn.
We liked everything about our stay. The property was beautiful and it was centrally located so we were able to walk downtown as well as to the theatre.
Excellent location. Very comfortable.
I don’t like brass beds because the pillows constantly slip down. I like to read and meditate in bed so I will be paying attention to what the beds look like in the picture when I book.
Lovely quiet location
Lots of character, beautiful inn, coffee and tea in the morning.
Location, beautiful property
Wonderful location and great value in beautiful old house.
Very beautiful space and the owners were kind and communicative.
It just seems a little expensive for the stay, considering the room we had was so small.
Lovely areas to sit inside or outside with morning coffee, nice rooms with character!
Nothing!
We were greeted by Tim the owner and explained everything the Inn has to offer. It was like a visit back in time. It's been an Inn since 1905 and the Victorian character has been carefully preserved. Bed was super comfy and it was clean and cozy.
That we didn't stay longer....
Very nice innkeeper and staff.
Lovely spot! Great host. The bedroom was really cute with amazing mattresses!
All great!
The house has beautiful ‘old bones’ structure. At one time it must have been very grand. Tired now. Clean, nice linen and towels. Shower was small, bed rather soft, mirrors in room were for height of someone 5’height. Window air conditioner ( 3rd floor) sounded like a truck in our bedroom. No glasses in room. Manager provided facts, no personality or warmth.
Not the ‘feeling’ of charm an ‘Inn’ is typically known for. Disappointing. No literature of ‘areas of interest’, no cozy living area to sit in, a musty smell when you enter main house, manager who feels ‘put out’ if called upon.
No breakfast but Joe's diner a 5 minute walk
5 minutes to get hot water. Narrow stairs
The room was lovely. I wish there had been a kettle to boil water for tea.
Location was on a quiet street, easy to walk to shopping, restaurants and theatres. The room had a bath tub. The price was reasonable. Parking was shady.
Did not expect to climb so many stairs to access our room. The stairs were shallow and carpeted so I had to hold the railing all the time. Also did not realize there was no longer breakfast or any food service. Room air conditioner was noisy but the ceiling fan only worked with the light on so not good for sleeping
Room was clean
The lack of communication from staff
Walking distance to the Avon Theatre and restaurants.
The host was inhospitable. We were expected after a matinee and arrived shortly after the power went out across town. Others arrived at the same time. It was dark and there was no one to greet us and show us to our rooms. We called and searched for the host and he didn't show up for several minutes. And he was grumpy. The same thing happened to other arrivals. We went out and when the power came back on three hours later, I texted him to ask if he could turn on the AC in our room. No response and no AC when we returned.
Walking distance to all theatres. Accommodations were very comfortable.
There was nothing we did t like about the property
It had a lot of charm and nice touches, a billiard room, reading room with a fireplace and coffee room in the morning. Little bookshelves throughout and coffee stations, fridges, water, glasses etc on every floor. Rooms were small but very comfortable and surprisingly quiet for a full house. Never heard another guest in the halls or stairs. Staff was lovely though we didn’t receive any response from our texts about a lost key and voicemails were all full. Everything worked out though.
Parking was very tight and over full as one of the last cars to return we had trouble Maneuvering around all the otter cars and the back lot was not well lit and very hard to see. That’s about the only negative.
There was no breakfast!!! Pictures showed a dining room but there was never any food available! Coffee in the morning was available in a self-serve method. Very disappointed.
The room was clean and the bed comfortable. That is the only positive thing about it. The inn is run down and we had to hunt for a glass to brush our teeth. There wasn't one in the room - also no tissues or any other expected supplies.
Location and price
I tried multiple times in multiple ways to get in touch with the caretakers, including using the email and phone number they sent to me when I made the booking, and they did not respond. I even showed up a few days early and found no one on site, although the front door was left unlocked. I needed to change the date of my reservation by one day. I could see on Booking.com that they had vacancies, but I was unable to speak with anyone who could change the date of my booking.
Bien situé, tranquil, pas dérangé.
Impossibilité de communiquer avec le personnel. Il nous manquait la clef de l'entrée de l'établissement.
no breakfast
Very unique property, all rooms are different. The location was perfect. It was within walking distance of town and the theaters.
The single bed in my particular room was very uncomfortable. Took a long time to get hot water to our room.
Beautiful Inn, and our room was lovely !
We enjoyed the mattress.
Everything. We booked this place because breakfast was included and we had to pay upfront with no cancellation policy. THEN they posted they were not serving breakfast anymore. Place was dirty, mould on bathroom shower walls and a cobweb and spiders in the bathroom. Comforter and chairs in the BR were ANCIENT, NO SPRINGS IN THE CHAIR AND THE COMFORTER AT LEAST 30 YEARS OLD. Many rooms were vacant and we felt we had been given the worst one in the place. Does not deserve Canadian Tourist 4.5 star sign!!!!
Lovely old property in a nice area. Close to the centre of town.
It was a good location for visiting downtown Stratford. Stone Maiden was lovely, but nothing exceptional.
We were not informed of being able to use the pool table or downstairs common area.
Tim was an excellent host. The stay was comfortable and the location was perfect. Wonderful and comfortable stay. We will definitely choose Stone Maiden again! T. from Markham
Beautiful historic property and centrally located within walking distance to shops, restaurants, and theatres. Comfortable beds, clean room, and charming.
The parking was a little difficult to maneuver. Some things were a little rough around the edges. The A/C window unit was clunky and old and quite noisy disrupting sleep.
Close to all the amenities downtown.
I had to carry my own bags to the third floor. No fridge, coffee or tea in room. We had to go to the second floor for that.
Expected a different experience based on high reviews. New innkeepers. Beware of pictures. No food, rooms not cleaned. Reviews based on old dates! Do not have high expectations.Double billed with no refunds! Escalation through visa required.
Although "official" check-in time ran from 4-6pm, we had advised the innkeeper a day in advance that we would be there around 8pm. Although we received no reply to that email, we assumed 8pm would be okay as innkeeper had advised in earlier email to let them know if we'd be arriving outside the offical time. The parking area seemed to be full, so we texted the innkeeper from the driveway, and went inside. We were greeted by a rather cranky gentleman, who said there was lots of room to "park on the grass; it's dead anyway." The room was okay, though it could have used a good cleaning: dustbunnies under the beds and around the baseboards, etc. The amenities, e.g., "complimentary toiletries," consisted of a bottle of body wash, a bottle of combination shampoo/conditioner, a well-used sofsoap dispenser, and a stack of Q-tips. A glass, or even a paper cup to allow for a glass of water in the room would have been nice. There was a single-serve coffeemaker on our floor...we discovered that by accident. We were curious about the extension cord in our room that disappeared through a hole in the wall. On the bright side, the beds were very comfortable and the Inn is in a great location, just a very short walk to restaurants and other downtown Stratford attractions. Overall though, it's case of what may once have been historic charm that's now just old.
Location, location, location! Walking distance to the Avon theatre and shopping and restaurants.
Took a long time for the water to get warm in the sink.
It is a beautiful historic home. Excellent parking and within walking distance to town. Bonus- there is a friendly dog!
Location
Dated
too many flights of stairs to climb
An ideal location to walk to/from the Avon Theatre and dining options.
Everything is close together in Stratford, but it was walking distance to everything, which I appreciated.
It was difficult getting in touch with the front desk when we arrived. Neither of the provided cell numbers was working. Fortunately we ran into a very helpful member of staff who managed to find someone, but it was kinda touch and go there for a few minutes.
Beautiful antique decor. The billiards room was great fun.
No towel service to our rooms even though we were there for seven nights. We had to resort to raiding the cupboard for towels and toilet paper. The attic beds needed evening to compensate for sloped floors. Would have been nice if we could have used the parlour in the afternoon to sit together. As the sunroom is very cold.
Beautiful old house, lovely grounds, good parking, great location close to shops and theatre ,comfortable beds
Inhospitable host, bedroom unclean clearly not properly vacuumed for months, pretty breakfast room serving only coffee despite online references to pastries which info was not corrected by staff, no water glasses in bathroom. For over $200 per night, one expects some small courtesies not in evidence here, sadly.
The exterior picture of the Inn is misleading as it is now not as well kept up. We spent one night in the "Edwina" room which was tired and worn and badly in need of a face-lift. The king headboard rattled as it was obvious the bed portion was not attached. We could not figure out how to lower the louvred type blinds for night time. A couple of disposable cups for the bathroom would have been greatly appreciated for "pill and brushing teeth" time. Tim lead us upstairs (2nd floor) with no offer to help with our luggage (small overnight bags)...we are in our mid 70s and managed but still the offer to help would have been a nice touch. We never saw him after that. The room TV was unfamiliar to us with no explanation handy as to "what was what". A very "hands off" approach all the way around. We passed on the coffee available in the morning and gladly left for the nearest Tim Horton's. A bleak experience.
Comfortable bed, close to downtown.
No moisturizer in bathroom.
It was close to downtown. It had some lovely seating areas to gather on the main floor.
There was nothing I didn’t like. The only thing is I wish the inn had pointed out the seating areas or mentioned on their website there is a coffee/tea station and fridge microwave we could use. None was mentioned on site and no one showed us seating areas when we arrived and so we crammed to visit in our room. Wish we had known earlier.
It was a lovely conveniently located
All good
Location excellent. Bed was very comfortable.
Glasses in the room, and small bars of soap will be a welcome addition. Stairs to our room were not expected.
