Location. Walking distance to Waters and George Streets.
Charming, clean. Comfortable.
Great location, decent size room and bathroom was nice except cracked ceiling. Decent walk up on narrow stairs but is a 100 year old house. Best I've slept in a week. Would stay again.
Lack of microwave in room, tiny tv monitor.
An economy queen room had everything but in a cramped space. The shower had good pressure and the bed was comfortable. It was only for one night so it was okay.
Only that the room was very small. Our friends felt claustrophobic so they left.
The location was great during the day but not great late at night.
Noisy when the pubs closed.
Good location in downtown St Johns
Old building and not well maintained. Broken stair spindle mad bannister wobbly. Room so tiny you. Space beside the wall was so minimal you had to crabwalk sideways or crawl on the bed to get on or off the bed. Bathroom of our room had obviously had a leak, as a small section of the ceiling was damp looking and has fallen in. Bathmat dangerous - just a waffle weave mat with no rubber backing. My feet went out from under me as I stepped into it after showering. Thankfully I was able to catch myself before completely falling. Our room was on the alley by Duke of Duckworth Pub. It was noisy (to be expected in downtown) but the worse issue was the smell of cigarette smoke and marijuana that pervaded the room until after midnight 🤢
We stay here often. Location is great. The food there is wonderful. It's no fuss when arriving and departing. Looking forward to our next stay.
nothing not to like.
location and price
Bathroom waste basket was not emptied upon arrival.
The property is located centrally. Our room was a good size with comfortable bed. The ensuite bathroom was fine with good water pressure. Everything was very clean. There was no view as expected however the window and window air conditioner were in a poor state, needing insulating and carpentry. The downstairs restaurant was exceptionally good. The cleaning staff lady was helpful and informative. She assisted with storing our luggage for the afternoon when we checked out.
1. Noise transmitted from other rooms starting at about 6am. 2. Steep staircase with no elevator.
Good location
Comfy bed
8x10 room. Extremely cramped. Nowhere to put toiletries in the bathroom. Tiny TV from the 90's. Nowhere to put shoes.
The room was clean
The front entrance smellledn the room, we have been used to having Keurig machines, proper tea bags, not coffee in a jar or loose tea bags. The TV was very small. The room was clean. We do not have complaints about that.
The location couldn't be better! The property is smack in the middle of Downtown St. John's, but on a quiet stretch of Duckworth Street so you don't walk out into a noisy bar crowd. The room was spotlessly clean and very well appointed - spacious, comfortable bed, a coffee maker that you didn't need a PhD in electronics to figure out how to use, plenty of good quality instant coffee and creamer, fully functional bathroom and shower, quality towels, ample drawer and closet space, and best of all ... and air conditioner! There's a great pub named "Duke of Duckworth" literally steps away ... I had dinner there twice - great crowd, best fish and chips I had in St. John's (I also heard that from locals!), very welcoming and friendly and reasonably priced.
I'll be honest ... when I first arrived, the property didn't give me a good first impression - it seemed a bit old fashioned and lacked the cutesiness that you often expect in older properties. But once I got settled in, my opinion immediately changed because the property is SO COMFORTABLE! And the room did have it's original fireplace still intact (not working), which added a nice visual ambiance (more genuine than fancy pillows or designer wallpaper would!). A few things that I want to note (this didn't affect me, but it might be an issue for guests with mobility issues): - There are several steps to enter the building, and the front door can be a bit clumsy - All rooms are up at least one flight of stairs - My room had a bathtub (rather than a walk-in shower, don't know what the other rooms have), so some guests may have difficulty climbing over a fairly high rim to take a shower (fortunately not an issue for me)
The bed was comfortable. The bathroom was nice.
Very noisy. I was given a room on the second floor beside the pub and from check into check out all I head was noise from the pub and the street. It kept me up most of the night. The staff also practiced dishonesty and although they”say they want to help”, they don’t. There was only one staff member who was helpful.
The location was really good, I didn’t have to walk far to find really good restaurants and tourist sites. Also, I found the establishment to be kind of cute
I would say the amount of bugs that came in, but I also just don’t enjoy bugs in general. Also, I would say how noisy it got at night, it made it a bit difficult to fall asleep.
Very close to downtown
We didn’t have breakfast. We didn’t know it was included. We went out instead.
Our information regarding entry arrived after we did. It would have been helpful to have had it well in advance.
Location was good, easy to walk around downtown. Nice, quiet room.
Lots of narrow stairs. Room was on the small side but had everything we needed.
The location was mere steps from the Duke of Duckworth which has the best fish and chips in town. Our room was nice and the staff was extremely friendly and hard working.
The bathroom needed some repair. It wasn't pretty. Going in and out during dinner service at the restaurant on the main floor is awkward.
King size bed and spacious room. Had a tub which I missed having for the first 10 days of the trip.
The activity on the street in front of the hotel demanded that my husband be with me so could feel safe when I went out to our vehicle to retrieve something.
B and B with no breakfast
Poorly lit staircase
An excellent location.
Nothing.
Downtown, character, king size bed was great
No elevator
Le downton super emplacement
Comfy bed - downtown area was perfect.
Its location to the centre of St John’s and to the parking building were great
The moisture in the walls is a pretty big concern. Never saw any staff at all to rate them. Got a message on the day of check in of how to get the key and check yourself in even though there is staff on site 24/7 apparently
The location.
There was no check-in staff. We were on the 3rd floor and no elevators to take luggage up. We could hear other guests through our room. The view was terrible, it looked over an abandoned parking garage. The shower stall appeared old and well used.
Location to downtown activities was excellent. It is over 100 years old so has a lot of charm. If you’re looking for a traditional hotel experience, pass on this one. But if you’re looking for what the real ‘flavour’ of downtown St Johns, this is your perfect stay! There are 3 floors and no elevator so keep that in mind if mobility issues exist. The bed was super comfortable!!!
Due to the age of the building, there was water damage on the ceiling and cracked tile in the bathroom. All understandable, but the character of the room was there.
It is a small hotel in downtown St John's, in a great location. The building is 100 years old, rooms and bathrooms are clean, nicely and modern renovated (except for the staircase). The room was clean, big and spacious, the bed comfortable and it had a very well stocked kitchenette (although we didn't use it much). There is no elevator, so if you have mobility issues or heavy luggage this could be a problem. The parking in front of the hotel on the street is free overnight and during the weekend. There is a paid, multi-level parking across the street. We didn't pay for parking since we were away during the day. Overall, it is a good, affordable option for staying in downtown St John's.
The staircase needs renovation. Not a big issue though.
Location and clean
Proximity to the downtown core
Noisy but can’t be helped
L’emplacement était parfait! Rapport qualité prix excellent!
Tout a été parfait
Lit très confortable, au milieu de tout à St.John. Pas bruyant du tout malgré mes mauvais commentaires à cet effet. Très propre.
The location is great. The room was neat and clean.
The room was so small, we had no place to put luggage or unpack anything. No closet or dresser. And being on the 4th floor was challenging with the old narrow staircases.
Close to everything
Old
Vintage feel with modern convenience. This had everything including the kitchen sink .
Parking was a little difficult.
The location was excellent and the room was comfortable.
No breakfast offered. Good location.
Didn’t realize there was no elevator. Many steep and narrow stairs.
The location was very central, with everything in the downtown area within walking distance. The room was small but it was clean and the bed was very comfortable. There is a fridge in the room which was of great help as it was hot when we were there so we could keep water cool.
It would be difficult to use for people with mobility issues.
Location
Never meet any staff. Guess there is none. Room was crowded with a double bed. Fruit flies in washroom
We stayed at The Duckworth for 3 nights when we first arrived in St. John’s and again 2 weeks later on our way home. Loved the size of our King Suite during our first stay. Staff were very accommodating and set me up with an extra fan upon request. The restaurant down stairs is fantastic - we ate there twice! Location is amazing with tons of restaurants, cafes and shopping within walking distance and some excellent sight seeing options a short drive either north or south. Highlights: Cape Spear, Signal Hill, Quidi Vidi and O’Briens Boat tour out of Bay Bulls.
Found our Queen suite too tight and had to get my husband to kill 2 spiders in washroom during our first stay.
Comfortable beds, staff very, very helpful, restaurant on site for supper.
Nothing
Great location, decent price Our room was newly renovated and they did a nice job of that.
Parking was awkward as we could only park on the street for 3 hours at a stretch and the parkade got expensive. Street Parking was free from 6pm to 8am so we tried to plan days around that/
Location was excellent. Staff were extremely helpful.
Emplacement
Lit inconfortable et pièce trop petite
The room was very large and I really liked that there was a mini fridge and coffee station. Bathroom was very clean, only one night the shower was a little dirty from another guest, and there were tons of towels available. I really appreciate the dark face cloths for taking off makeup. Considering that this property was a historical building, it was very comfortable and fun to be in.
I just wish there had been a curtain for the sky light in my room, even with the other curtains closed a lot of natural light came in via the sky light so I was up with the sun. There is also no front desk, they tell you to call but no one picked up. I bumped into staff so they could answer my question instead.
Location
Was not aware it was shared bathroom nor was I aware there was no elevator and mobility is an issue - website needs to be clearer
Amazing location. Nice size room with king bed. Fantastic restaurant attached. Staff were very accommodating when I asked for a fan as I found the room quite warm.
I was startled by two spiders in the bathroom, one in the shower, which my husband luckily took care. I hate spiders so much it was hard for me not to spend next couple days on high spider alert. I found the bed and pillows quite hard which made it hard for me to get a good nights rest as I prefer really soft mattress and super lofty pillows. My husband found the bed very comfortable.
Location to George Street and walkable to downtown. Mattress and pillows were comfortable.
We stayed on the first floor. Door is very thin and we could hear a lot of noise from outside our door, as well as above (footfalls) and from the bar. Room could get stuffy. Design of bathroom towel bars and sink problematic.
Location very close to downtown
Very small rooms. Not really a hotel Tile. More like a small apartment. No staff present. No lobby.

It really is right down town.
Zentrale Lage
Sehr späte Zugangsinformation erhalten. Bei einer Anreise aus Übersee sollte die Info zwei Tage vor Ankunft versandt werden
Very clean and comfortable, well located, and extremely kind and helpful staff. They allowed me to store my bags on the premises before and after my stay, and were very responsive and great to speak with.
It’s located right in the middle of downtown. As I stayed on a Saturday night, it was a bit loud outside my window, but not terrible.
Great location
Initially we were given a room that was in very poor condition because of water damage. Peeling paint, mould and noisy ( from building basement). Staff did change our room the next day but I noticed it was still used for other guests. It’s an old building which is in need of some attention.
Location and the ease of check in. Also helpful that we were able to store our luggage on check out day until we had to get to the airport.
The smell in the lobby area was nauseating. It smelled old and like sewage.
It was a cute room with an excellent location.
Would have liked to have air conditioning or window to open but realize it is likely a safety issue.
Nothing
Not clean.
We never stayed in the two rooms we had rented ….. We left and rented elsewhere the place is a real firetrap. Not advisable
Posizione
Good location close to George street, the harbour and shoppng
I could hear every word the people in the next room said. My room was on the alley above the entrance to the Duke of duckworth and I could hear every word said outside too, despite the window being closed. My room was small but I saw into other rooms and they were much larger.
Short walk from historic area and downtown, comfortable fridge in room and coffee maker. Easy lockbox system to get key
No one there if issues call right to voice mail. If you get room over the alley there’s a late night bar can get noisy
The room was super cute and cozy, very clean, love the old fireplace really made the place!
The TV was pretty small, I know the room wasn't super big but was hard to see the TV from the bed, also didn't have many channel options
Great location short walk to the downtown area and the sites
No elevator had some issues with not the outlets working
Great location, very comfortable bed
A little old, starting to show its age
parkeergarage tegen over hotel
Een verlopen uitstraling en dan relatief duur
It was clean and comfortable
Too many stairs
It was clean but needed ceiling patching .
Not as easy to find parking .
L’emplacement est bien
Un peu vieillot et petit comme chambre. Vue sur un mur de bâtiment
I like the Duckworth Inn. A repeat client. Location is great. Room beforethis was great as well..
The bathroom had a stain with a crack in the ceiling and it started leaking water Saturday evening. Call the attendant and he showed up took pictures and his manager. And was told they would get back to me. No extra room available. 2 hand towels brought to soak up the dripping water. No call the next day. I called No manager until Monday. Monday came. No manager holiday. Sorry sorry. Flew home. Called to day. Refused sent.. nope. No email came threw with info. Very dissatisfied .
Nice location. Clean bed, no bed bugs.
Dirty shower, dirty table, dirty floor.
Location, close to Water St.
A terrible ceiling window without curtain that let the sun pass at 06 AM! Toilet ceiling in need of fixing. Unstable Wi-Fi. Not a smooth check in.
Cozy
Heavy lifting with bags
I had a good stay overall at this 3-star hotel in downtown. The location is very convenient, close to restaurants, shops, and public transportation. The rooms were clean and comfortable, and the staff was friendly and helpful during my stay. The manager was also professional and responsive.
One downside was the noise at times, since the hotel and restaurant are located in the same building, so it could get loud, especially in the evening. I also think the experience would be even better if complimentary slippers and bottled water were provided in the rooms. Small details like that would make guests feel more comfortable and welcomed.
Great Value - no frills. Clean and comfy and mostly quiet.
Walls were thick but Doors were a little thin- could hear people in hallways - but there are so few rooms it wasn’t frequent or too bothersome
The location & price were the best part about this property. The bed was comfortable.
The very water damaged ceiling & the duck tape in the tiled shower. The sink was so huge the bathroom was difficult to use to get ready for the day.
So cozy
The bed and pillows are wonderful.
I was charged a $225.00 security deposit and I was not told about it. It will take up to 7 business days to get it back.
I want my money back
Central location, heritage buildng
Thin walls, loud
I have stayed many times and always like the Duckworth. It is great value for the price.
I did not like that there was a solicitation for a gratuity for the cleaning staff. My God, everyone wants a tip these days. Tipping should be exclusively for servers in bars and restaurants. Yes, the hotel staff do a great job but I have never tipped in my almost 80 years of life for the hotel staff unless they serve in the hotel restaurant and bar. Again, I like the Duckworth and will be booking it over Thanksgiving week-end when I return for a visit.
Location. Price. Good value.
Stairs were poor and need more light. Very small tv.
Location to the event.
Bed not comfortable, pillows were terrible, some of the bedding hadn’t been washed from the previous occupant, the floors hadn’t been washed properly,
Location, and a great restaurant, staff were exceptional
No elevator, but very old building!!
Location, cleanliness, and comfort
I had to use roaming to call when I arrived at the hotel.
Great price..staff super friendly....not the first time I stayed here and won't be the last. .love it!
Cozy and comfortable, great place
Nothing really
