Halifax Hall

We like the location and that there is a restaurant on the site. The breakfast was good. There were also local restaurants within walking distance.

For us the bed was too firm, so did not sleep well.

Location, friendly staff

Nothing

The coffee

Great pleasant service

Not much

Comfortable, quiet and very professional and friendly staff. Good breakfast too!

Email booking didn’t work - and a message I left to tell about late arrival went unreported too - some IT glitch maybe? Wi fi not good. But staff did best to relink to their event and conference systems; staff sometimes not at reception desk to raise parking barriers

Mooie ligging, goede prijs kwaliteit verhouding, ontbijt was super

Kamer was erg warm, er was geen airco, wel een tafel ventilator

Hotel location was good for what we were due to do and walking distance to eccleshall road and its restaurants cafes and bars

The breakfast gluten free cereals had changed from schar in 2023 to freee in 2026, freee cereal being like cardboard with milk making no difference. A contrast to the lovely toasted GF bacon sandwich.

Lovely choice of breakfast. Very comfortable bed. Efficient shower. Helpful staff. Great location.

The room was a little small. There is not much space for luggage.

Nice spacious room and bathroom

Nothing

Gute Lage in einer abgegrenzten Parkanlage. Gute Parkmöglichkeiten. Sehr gutes Frühstück mit viel frischem Obst.

Lange verwinkelte sehr warme Gänge

Breakfast was excellent with a good variety of options, including plenty of vegetarian ones.

Nice room and extra milk/tea/goodies if required

Great location in West Sheffield! The breakfast was good, lots of options!

Location, rooms, breakfast, dinner 😊 Excellent shower 😊👍

Lots of doors banging on the Saturday night and people talking in corridors in early hours☹️

The location was close to our visit. The room was snug, however comfortable and clean. The breakfast was good quality and included in our room. The staff were nice.

Parking was dreadful. We had to park out on the main road after being sent all around the estate. There was an event going on that spilled into the bar. The restaurant was closed because of the event. It was noisy, but luckily our room was away from it. We had driven from Kent to drop oir daughtet to Uni and all this spoiled the experience. If we had been contacted about the event we would have found an alternative. It will not be out first choice when we go back to Sheffield as we do every couple of months.

Location, staff, breakfast

Very warm. Heating seemed to be on even though it was warm outside

Wonderful breakfast, lovely big bathroom, lots of light

Have stayed several times. Comfortable, friendly and easy as the location is close to the university end of Sheffield.

This time we were in a ground floor room at the bottom of the stairs which was slightly noisier than we'd have liked. That having been said it didn't disturb my sleep as the hotel is fairly quiet.

The staff are always friendly and welcoming, Room was good, clean and comfortable bed. Breakfast was very good . It’s in a great location too!

The breakfast was very good, the breakfast staff were very polite and helpful. The location was perfect for the city centre. The bathroom facilities were fantastic.

Bedroom was on the small side & the bar selection was quite minimal for choice of drinks

Good choice of breakfast on the menu very pleasantly surprised.lovely touch that you can have snacks to take to the room. Lovely big bathroom. Very calm, peaceful environment both inside and out.

Excellent selection. Staff kept all choices topped up. Staff friendly and helpful.

Bedroom was a little small. Would have liked another upright chair.

Great location and friendly, helpful staff.

Everything was great.

Close location to Sheffield Uni, on the edge of their accommodation campus. Parking. Comfortable bed and clean room and bathroom.

We stayed on a hot weekend in June and the ground floor room was small and impossible to ventilate, the fan provided did not help and it made sleep very difficult.

Clean, good quality shower and coffee machine in the room. Staff had time to help with map advice and needs while there. Very polite and chatty. Breakfast was really good. I would definitely stay there again.

It was further out of Sheffield than I thought it’d be. Also the photos are deceiving, makes it look like you’re staying in an old Manor House but then the hotel entrance and the inside doesn’t feel like it, feels more like an 80’s/90’s style renovation.

Quiet and in a good location.

The car park and pedestrian access isn’t good. I can’t believe it doesn’t have a ramp for luggage, as there are many steps to negotiate to get to reception. We were on the top floor and there isn’t a lift so this isn’t easy with heavy luggage either.

Really nice hotel in university accommodation area - spacious, clean room with good beds. Very nice breakfast and polite/helpful staff. Very reasonably priced and convenient for the uni.

No issues.

Welcoming check in. A one night stay. The grounds are beautiful. There are a few steps up from the car park to the reception area. Our room was a double and whilst the room itself was quite small it had everything we needed including a nespresso machine and a top up station along the corridor to get extra supplies if needed. The bathroom was large with a super walk in shower. All spotlessly clean. We had views overlooking the leafy grounds. We had dinner from a menu with plenty of choice. The twice cooked cheese soufflé was memorable. Service was friendly. A good nights sleep and a freshly cooked breakfast, where the young staff were excellent. Would definitely stay again.

Love this hotel. The free tunnocks on every floor!!

Excellent location, staff all attentive and professional. Food in restaurant and breakfast both very good.

N/a

Impressive looking and well maintained hotel, located in a rural environment on the outskirts of the city. Staff and service excellent. Room was basic but clean, modern and well decorated. Spacious shower and bathroom.

Room was warm with window only part opening although a small fan was provided. Breakfast choice was good but bacon and mushrooms were overcooked.

Kaunis hotelli rauhallisella alueella.

Julkinen liikenne on surkea Sheffieldissä.

The staff were excellent, so friendly, professional and accommodating.

Excellent experienced staff, superb breakfast

Friendly staff, arrived a bit early but room was ready. Clean, comfortable & quiet. Excellent shower & bathroom with nice free toiletries. Good breakfast, nice choice and can help yourself to cold choices. Stayed a few times, always very good and relaxing.

The location was perfect and loved the tunnocks tea cakes. Comfy bed and good facilities. Would defo stay again

A bit pricey and a bit hot but there was a fan that helped

I like the ease of booking in. The breakfast was good quality and value and having a parking space was very welcome. Staff were friendly and helpful.

Too much emphasis on the fancy coffee machines in each room. More time spent on general maintenance wouldn't go amiss - the sink taps didn't work properly, the flush on the toilet worked on every third or fourth flush and general plumbing seemed to struggle. Hotel feels somewhat tired and unloved these days.

Room and beds are very comfortable. Meal in the restaurant met our dietary needs very well - all gluten free. Very good breakfast. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Free parking. Pleasant grounds.

Nothing.

All staff were amazing ! Nothing was too much trouble ! If I could rate them 100 💯 then I would ! My meal in the evening was very good....Thanks to your chef 😁 ! Your receptionist on arrival was excellent !

The downside for me was the access. My taxi on arrival had to leave me at the main road as he didn't have access through the barrier. I'm happy to walk and not disabled but after a long journey and stressful family visit it was the last straw for me. Leaving the next morning was awkward as it was pouring rain and although the driver accessed the barrier ( I had to contact the service to advise them how ) I was very wet . Better access would greatly improve anyone's visit to Halifax Hall. ThankYou ... Sandy

Location, price and room specs.

Machine coffee only, would like to be offered a cafeteria or filter for breakfast.

Bathroom was spacious and clean.

Choice of breakfast cereals could have been better.

Great position, 10 minute drive and you’re in Peak District

No air con but we survived

Large bath and bathroom

The room was a good size and a quiet location on the ground floor at the end of a corridor. Breakfast choice superb both buffet and menu. Muesli was delicious, recommend trying it. Lovely location in the University grounds. Tastefully decorated throughout. Friendly staff.

The shower was very slow to drain. I meant to report it but forgot. (I'm sure it would have been sorted if I had reported it) Drinks on the expensive side but due to it being a boutique hotel I guess that's to be expected.

Super Hotel!! Heel gastvrij, heerlijke kamer, heerlijk eten, fijne plek, prachtig pand, lekker bed en goed ontbijt ❤️

Great location in a really quiet leafy area. Just a short walk to the Botanical Gardens, Endcliffe Park and Sharrow Vale area. Lovely, friendly, accommodating staff. Rooms are comfortable and clean with lovely large bathrooms. Always my first choice when visiting Sheffield.

Friendly staff and great breakfast

Nothing

I lived there when it was a hall of residence

Small bedroom

Lovely place. Great staff!

Was a touch warm and the fan wasn’t really up to the job. Also a few places could do with extra dusting!

The location is really good and the breakfast was excellent with very polite and friendly staff.

There is nothing I don't like

Nice decor, lovely old building, helpful staff, free snacks (biscuits, Caramel wafers, Tunnocks teacakes) from the fridge in the hallway. Very good breakfast, great fan in the room, lovely bathroom.

Some of the buffet breakfast items were not replenished, a minor point which did not affect our experience.

Comfortable beds and friendly staff. Loved the little fridges on each floor, with extra milk jugs, caramel wafers and biscuits

Loved our one night stay at the lovely hotel. The beds were comfortable. We had access to unlimited coffee & / tea. The breakfast was fantastic. The rooms were a good size and easily accessible. There is a 24 hour bar which is ideal if you wake up in need of a cold drink. Every member of staff we met was really friendly and helpful.

Great, clean room, spacious bathroom. Ideal location for us. Complimentary Tunnocks teacakes are always an added bonus and breakfast is superb

Not up to standard

Parking arrangements was good

Classified as a hotel within Sheffield University campus short distance of central Sheffield. Lovely grounds, nice hot breakfast - either full English or porridge, not both! The building is old with thick walls that stores the days heat and it’s very uncomfortable at night. Portable fans are provided but inefficient. Staff friendly but hotel standards were a little low.

Location misleading on website as no mention that the hotel is part of Sheffield University. Sheffield university campus on the same premises as hotel. Room facilities inadequate - no AC, no shower head - only rain shower, no iron, no hairdryer. Had to ask for fan which made no difference as very small. Atmosphere - very hot through out the hotel. Breakfast included but had to have either porridge or hot breakfast. Not both. Value - misleading & no value for money.

Great breakfast.

The breakfast was excellent and very reasonably priced. I would definitely recommend it.

Good quality breakfast. Especially for me as a coeliac Can check in at any time.

They had run out of baked beans at breakfast - very strange.

The library and old rooms

The bed was a bit hard and the room hot.

I reeved a delicious standard breakfast with excellent service

No complaints

There’s a fancy coffee machine in the room! Nice little view from outside of the window , surroundings are nice too! Pool table in the hotel lobby available to use , staff nice

Feels a little bit outdated but it’s a historical building! So expected

Breakfast was adequate and staff extremely helpful Coffee was very good

Fan was not sufficient for the really hot weather. We should be able to open the top window at least even on the ground floor where we were.

Secure and pleasant surroundings- good breakfast- neat rooms with nice bathrooms

21 deg outside but really hot in corridors and room - fan present but air conditioning may be needed

We liked the surroundings, the interior of the hotel was modern and stylish. The restaurant was lovely and cosy. Breakfast was wide ranging - from continental to full English and everything in between.Food at dinner was tasty and there was lots to eat.. Staff were very friendly and helpful. The bedroom was very small but ensuite was spacious. Our bed was comfortable. . Outside spaces to sit in if you wished. Close to Botanical Gardens and park if you fancied a walk. A very enjoyable stay.

Very small bedroom, no lift.

Lovely stay on 28th July with friends. Stayed at the hotel 5 times. Service, rooms and food are excellent. Great location for the town centre. We will definitely be back to the hotel.

Lovely

Convenient for family

Bedroom was a bit small.

Our evening meal was excellent, made all the more special with a fox trotting through the garden. We also had a very nice chat with James in the dining room. Breakfast too was very good.

One thing which would be useful in the bathrooms would be a mirror on a wall where make-up could be applied at close range…the large mirrors in the room and bathroom were awkward having to lean across a table or sink to see closely. Fortunately I always carry a standing mirror with me for this reason! Also the TV was useless with no decent reception and Page 80 (?) for information regarding our stay could not be reached.

It was fairly quiet

It was a little rundown

Good location. Very friendly staff.

Very warm in the rooms.

Convenient location

The rooms were extremely stuffy, poor ventilated and too warm. The corridor was smelt of cigarette smoke. Fresh milk wasn’t available in the top up area. The EV charger was broken.

Great location on the edge of Endcliffe Student Village. Lovely and green and relatively close to cafes, shops and bars. We have stayed several times. It's very quiet during Uni holidays and more lively in term time but we have never been disturbed by noise.

Breakfast was smaller with less variety and not as fresh as when we were last here around 2 years ago.

Very good quality breakfast. Beautiful set up and a great location.

No air conditioning. EV charging advertised but nobody was able to make it work. So essentially we could not get our car charged there which we planned beforehand. The double room was very small and with no air con it was unbearable to sleep with just a small fan.

The building, it was beautiful. The staff were helpful and cheerful. The breakfast had a lot of choice and was perfectly cooked

It was a little farther out of the centre of Sheffield than I expected

Was playing golf at a nearby location so was excellent position Room was good size .big bathroom excellent

As it was really hot, no air-conditioning, but they did provide a fan

Perfectly located property for the event we were attending nearby, situated in a quiet neighbourhood but still close enough to walk to vibrant restaurants and bars. We were able to extend our check out for a small fee and the car parking on site was great. Breakfast was delicious and as we had an early start rather than miss out on a cooked option completely the team did us a breakfast cob to take away, very much appreciated and over and above our expectations.

Nothing it was all spot on.

Lovely hotel, close to the University of Sheffield where we were attending our daughter's graduation. We stayed for one night, bed and breakfast and we were able to park on site - you need a pass from the hotel reception. We booked two double rooms for the same price but one was substantially bigger than the other. Coffee machine with pods and tea bags were provided. Each floor also has a station with extra supplies and biscuits which was a really nice touch. The bathroom was huge and provided toiletries. Bathrobes and a safe could be found in the wardrobe. There is no air conditioning but a fan is provided. The beds were extremely comfortable. Breakfast was excellent with the choice of cereals, pastries etc as well as a hot breakfast menu. The bar was perhaps a little expensive but I guess hotel bars always are. All the staff we encountered throughout our stay were very friendly, helpful and professional. Any minor issues were dealt with immediately. I would definitely stay here again.

The only negative was the lack of a fridge in the room. A small fridge for keeping drinks cold would have been very welcome.

Food, staff and cleanliness

Very noisy outside my room from the alley way behind hotel with big wheelie bins from 5.30 each morning

Great stay

Polite, attentive and caring

Bed was comfy and shower was large.

Room was warm, and positioned next to kitchen/staff access. No air conditioning which meant window open and fan on. However, staff were beginning breakfast prep/day's service early and this could be heard via the open window. People crashing about and moving trollys. Breakfast room felt clinical with bright white lighting, similar to a hospital waiting room. Considering the restaurant area is so nice. It was a let down to be put into the converted conference centre for breakfast.

The facilities, location, room, breakfast Fresh milk and biscuits

The heat in the rooms and corridors

Location and garden, informal but helpful staff. Quiet bedroom.

Not enough staff for the number of guests and visitors wanting drinks and service on our first evening . Open plan foyer and bar area afforded us nowhere quiet to sit on second evening .

Perfect location

Parking can be a challenge

Good convenient location, breakfast very good, convenient refill stations for milk etc on each floor, good sized room.

Can't really think of anything

Lovely breakfast. Well located. Friendly staff.

Room was warm, but an excellent t fan was provided.

Room was clean ,comfortable although quite compact, but had a very good standard of tea/ coffee in the room. We knew we were staying in the middle of a heatwave and brought our own fan for the room, one was already provided but even with another fan the room was still incredibly warm. A walk-in shower was requested before our stay and the hotel were able to accommodate this. Overall a very nice standard for of hotel room. Breakfast also had a really good variety of quality items, with attentive staff who ensured cooked items were delivered piping hot. Due to leaving for our appointment at 6.30am we had requested if breakfast snacks could be collected before we left. As with breakfast included in the room price neither of us were able to have it on the first morning. Unfortunately this wasn't passed on to the night staff organise. But I was able to return once my wife had gone into surgery. Reception staff were more than happy to provide iced / chilled water upon request to take back to the room. Just a shame it was a sour taste after our arrival.

Unfortunately other reviews which stated the hotel were accommodating of an early check-in was NOT our experience. Having travelled over 100 miles to Sheffield for a medical procedure. After we completed our pre-op checks at the hospital, we arrived the Hotel at about 12.30pm. We knew check in wasn't until 3pm and was not expecting to check in so early - I did say to the gentleman at reception could we use the toilet facilities and we had just had a long journey! He then directed us to a cafe elsewhere on the site or to head to the botanical gardens! I WAS SO GOBSMACKED Obviously the Teva conference was more important to him than paying guests! So we left out bags in the car and headed off with Google maps to find some public toilets. Having explored some of the area suggested on website in what was an extremely hot over 30° day we returned to the hotel at 2.30pm when I asked the same gentleman on reception if it would be possible to check in if our room was ready... Was told "sorry check-in is from 3pm" No "Would you like to have a seat in the lounge where it is cool to wait?" Or "Please get a drink n the bar area while your room is ready." No! Nothing.... Was this cos your precious conference had moved into the bar lounge area and they had needed the toilet facilities near reception!!! This obnoxious team member spoilt our stay from the moment we arrived! Short dark hair, white shirt and sweat patches under your arms - I seriously hope the management consider your career in hospitality a short one! I returned to sit on a concrete wall under the shade of a tree outside the Halifax Hotel reception for 30 minutes with my wife who was undergoing major surgery the following day! SPOILT OUR WHOLE EXPERIENCE.

Beautiful setting

Rooms very hot but the fan helped

Accommodated us well with an early check in as a family prior to our son’s wedding nearby. Much appreciated.

Comfortable and friendly

Comfortable, spacious and all the facilities we could want.

No air conditioning ( although they did provide fans which helped a lot )

Efficiently run, clean, good breakfast & free parking.

Small bedroom but excellent bathroom.

Convenient and free parking Superb breakfast

Nothing

Traditional high quality historical building with terrace and private gardens close to the Botanical Gardens of Sheffield. Well fitted bedroom and spacious bathroom. Decent dinner and breakfast menus.

No lift, which is a minor issue as there are only 3 floors. No air con, which was a major problem in the hot July weather. A fan was provided but was insufficient.

We love this hotel. Have stayed several times. Staff excellent , breakfast is excellent with lots of choices. We stayed during the very hot weather and the hotel supplied filtered iced water whenever it was needed. A very thoughtful gesture! The location is perfect for us as it’s only a few minutes drive from our family who we were visiting. The garden is a great bonus as well.

It’s good that the reception areas are cool but the bedrooms and the hallways were extremely hot. There was a fan in the room but it didn’t really have much effect. Parking can also be a problem if the hotel is busy. On our first night the hotel was full and also a large party taking place.

Location was great. Very peaceful stay

Nothing

Property was fine. I liked everything about the property.

Steps going up to reception. No air con.

Great location, nice rooms, good food and friendly staff.
