The Clerk & Well Pub and Rooms

The room and the bathroom were both very large and comfortable, with all the amenities one could look for in a hotel. Free snacks, tea and coffee were provided, which was nice. The staff was friendly and helpful both at reception and at the pub. Overall, very pleasant stay!

We liked it all - in no specific order - the welcoming staff (Tina is a gem), the decor, the spacious rooms, the cleanliness, the big towels, the free snacks, the Netflix account, the location, the food, the water in the fridge (and the fact that the bottles are glass and not plastic). Also that it’s possible to borrow adaptors if you’ve left them at home - and that there is an iron and an ironing board.

No dislikes at all, but the steep stairs up to the rooms can be a challenge for some people.

We had an issue with a leaking tap and was promptly offered an alternative hotel and transfer to this one with a complimentary drink. Both hotels were lovely and the staff were excellent

Lovely rooms, comfortable and had everything needed for a lovely stay. The little touches made a difference such as robes, snacks, complimentary drink. Food downstairs was good too.

The air con was broken in our room during a very hot weekend. We were forewarned and the staff gave us a fan. There was nothing more they could do as the engineer came and was unable to fix it quickly. It was warm in the room, but we were well looked after.

Very welcoming staff - cozy room and great vibes

Room was perfect, very roomy and exceptionally clean. Little touches like water in fridge and snacks for guests. Beds were very comfortable. Room is air conditioned if required. Provided welcome drink for guests and discount for eating in restaurant.

There wasn't anything to not like about the Clerk and Well pub and rooms. Guests should note that stairs to the rooms are steep but was helped with case by a kind member of staff.

La habitación estaba muy bien, muy completa, la limpieza era muy buena y era muy tranquila. El baño estaba muy bien. El personal muy amable y el servicio muy bueno.

La ubicación estaba bien aunque había que desplazarse un poco para llegar al centro, pero era una zona muy tranquila.

There was no elevator, but the staff assisted us with our luggage. The location was very good. They had no breakfast option, but there were a couple of places nearby.

Disappointing stay. The room was extremely noisy from 6am: construction work blocking the street (with drivers losing patience) and delivery trucks unloading directly below the windows. Hotel service was poor on several fronts: - Quiet room not honoured. I had specifically asked for a quiet room, and the property confirmed via Booking.com messaging that I would be given a high floor as it would be quieter. On arrival, this was not the case. I was too tired to check and only realised later. - Check-in mishandled. I messaged the property in the morning to confirm I would arrive at 10.30pm. The reply was reassuring: reception open until 11pm. At 10.15pm, the receptionist called me on my mobile to say he was leaving at exactly 10.30pm, and that I would have to call the porter ("10 minutes away by car") to be let in. I insisted he wait, as I would arrive on time or at most three minutes late. His manner was very poor, essentially: "I want to go home, your problem is not mine."

The room was clean, comfortable and stylish and the bathroom was amazing. A small fridge with a couple of bottles inside was a nice touch and having somewhere to eat downstairs was really handy. Staff were so helpful and friendly especially when I first arrived, it really made me feel welcome.

My only criticism was that I was on the third floor and with so many stairs it was a real trek for me, but I was aware of this when I booked the room. But it wasn't too much of an issue and it wouldn't stop me coming again.

Great hospitality. We arrived early but still were able to check in. We even got a drink in the pub on arrival. Thank you! Water and snacks provided in the room. We ate in the pub in the evening and had a beautiful meal. There was also a 10% discount on the food. The location was ideal with direct connection by tube to both Paddington and Liverpool Street stations and within walking distance of several Museums and sights to visit.

No lift and steep stairs but that wasn't an issue for us.

Excellent location within easy access for most places and ideal for my purposes that day/evening. The staff were so helpful and pleasant to deal with. The room was spacious with iron, ironing board, hairdryer, toiletries and aircon - which was much appreciated as it was a very hot day/evening! The bed itself was so comfortable with cosy bedding and pillows meaning I slept well. The only thing to mention is that there was no breakfast, but there are numerous other locations in a short distance to get breakfast. Would definitely return.

Das Zimmer oberhalb des Pubs war wirklich gross und geräumig - vor allem für Londoner Verhältnisse -, mit großem Badezimmer, und sehr gemütlich eingerichtet. "Cozy" beschreibt es wirklich gut! Es gab Kaffeemaschine und Teekocher und eine reiche Auswahl an Kaffee, Tees und Keksen. Obwohl der Pub gut besucht war, hat man nicht viel gehört. Das Personal war überaus freundlich und hilfsbereit und zuvorkommend. Wir wurden gleich mit einem Willkommensgetränk begrüßt. Das Bett war bequem, und das Badezimmer hatte modernsten Standard, obwohl es ein bisschen "auf alt" gestylt war (wie der ganze Raum). Wir haben uns extrem wohl gefühlt und würden sofort wieder dort übernachten.

Für uns war es kein Problem, aber es gab keinen Aufzug im Haus. Bis zur nächsten U-Bahn-Station waren es 10 min zu laufen, aber ein Bus hielt unmittelbar vorm Haus. Es wurde kein Frühstück angeboten (das wussten wir aber), dafür gab es ein sehr nettes Cafe mit All-day-Breakfast direkt gegenüber auf der anderen Straßenseite.

Cute, quiet, clean, comfy, huge bathroom. Room service was impeccable. Staff was responsive and helpful when needed, even though the pub was closed for the holiday. Tube and bus stations close. Easy walking to St Paul's and British Museum. Would definitely stay here again.

Was a bummer the pub was closed, but with the holiday I get it. I'll come back another time! The Netflix account wasn't logged in, but it wasn't a huge deal for me.

The check-in was easy and the staff were very friendly. The room was large and comfortable, nicely furnished and well equipped.

My room was at the front of the pub on the first floor, directly above the bar, so there was a fair bit of noise from the bar beneath and also from the road which was busy throughout the night. Perhaps I should have realised this when booking a room above a pub!

We stayed for 5 nights. The room on the top floor was very comfortable with plenty space and being in the back of the building it was quieter than when we stayed in the front. Bed was comfy. The bathroom was tiny but the shower was good. Tv was massive. Daughter was in a next door room and her room was smaller than ours and would have been a bit tight for two people with luggage but the bathroom was huge and the tv was small. Location is very good with buses to Oxford St as well as being very walkable too. Nice and close to great places like St Barthololmew the Great and Smithfield as well as St Pauls and walks across the river. We walked to Borough Market easily from here. Also being on the Elizabeth Line its a super easy ride out to the airport!

Good location, lovely and helpful staff, room was cleaned daily with towels refreshed, etc. food was great (and you get 10% discount for food and drinks in the bar when staying in the rooms.. big bonus).

This is just for us (and this can’t be helped) we were on the very top floor. No lift and steep stairs.

The room was big and very comfortable. The bed was extremely cozy and it was surprisingly quiet. We loved the tea and coffee and water in the room, and all the amenities in the bathroom.

We had expected breakfast being delivered to the room but we appreciated the teas and coffee, and water that was provided. We were just confused by the description on Booking.com.

Beautiful decor, friendly and accommodating staff and all the little touches in the room like ear plugs in the bedside table; a mini fridge with fresh water; complimentary drink on arrival and free Netflix.

Didn’t bother me at all but the stairs are quite steep so anyone elderly or with a disability would have struggled.

Traditional Inn, welcoming staff and our room was very clean and comfortable. We had plenty of complimentary water, teas, coffees and biscuits and snacks. We had a delicious meal and staff couldn’t have been more helpful.
