The young lady that works in the bar and restaurant was the best nothing was a problem she went above and beyond to make us happy . Food was great service wonderful. And very friendly person. Which made our stay very special. If we come to New Zealand again we would stay there again. But get a large room. Thanks for a nice stay
Just the room to small and bed a bit hard but happy with everything else
Beautiful hotel , we had a renovated room Lovely staff
Nothing at all Very happy staying here
Clean and tidy. Most especially the view from our room was nice
We loved every bit of our stay.
Meals were good
Very thin walls between rooms. I had someone banging on the wall when I had tv on which was right down low so I then felt unable to watch tv which was annoying as it wasn’t after nine .
Location is great and the room was newly refurbished and big
Everything was great
Was so noisy couldn't hear myself think, let alone have a conversation. Barman turned music down a little but nowhere near enough. I can't imagine how he would think a bunch of pensioners would possibly like what he was so selfishly playing. We would have stayed for desert and more drinks but had to leave.
Comfy bed
We originally booked a Standard Double room, when we went to the room, we found it very small and decided to see if we could possibly get a larger room, the loverly lady at reception was able to accommodate us. The new room was very large and very well appointed. They have done a very great job with the upgrades and renovations. Loved the wonderful vibe within the hotel. Good parking facility across the road.
When we moved, we were warned that contractors were working on the floor below us and would finish up soon but restart again at 7:30am. So, we were prepared. Not really a negative, as I understand that they are doing the place up. Would like to revisit one all works are done Only drawback a bit difficult to find. Maybe more signage at the intersection
Staff were excellent. After Tvs didnt work in both rooms.
Friendly staff, location and convenience of the bar and restaurant
Renovations could hear them at 7am
Newly refurbished rooms. Good parking. Great location.
I don't mind renovation happening but maybe some compensation would be appropriate.
Room a bit small but ok for a short stay
The Grovsenor Hotel was a last-minute booking, but we are so glad we did. From the friendly greeting upon arrival, parking right across from the accommodation to the spacious, clean, and comfortable room and bed. It is located right in town, so everything was walking distance. Added bonus was the quaint lift.
Not applicable, everything was great.
The location was quite central.
The fridge didn't work, which ended up costing us quite a bit of lost food. The lift was not working on our departure resulting in us carrying two heavy suitcases down two flights of stairs. Workmen started with nail guns, electric saws and other tools at before 7.40am. The hair dryer was completely ineffective. The bed was very hard. The were disinterested in the concerns we raised at checkout. For $217 for a night, it was poor value compared to $230 per night at Quest in Christchurch which provided an apartment with kitchen and lounge and full.clothes washing facilities. My strong advice would be to look elsewhere if you are looking for accommodation in Timaru.
Good location, friendly staff. Good for one night stay
No chairs
Great reception and bar/restaurant staff. Meals were huge and nicely presented. Comfortable bed
Great location, very quiet compared to other places we have stayed in Timaru, helpful staff Easy walking to town, waterfront and restaurants
Nothing
Easy parking, freindly staff, fresh clean new look
No bathroom heater
Rooms very comfortable
Builders working on level above my room ! Starting work at 7.30 am with radios going and nail guns , tradies talking and finishing work at 5 pm ! I was visiting sick in hospital for days and come back during day to have a sleep but to noisy !
The location was great for us as we had a function to go too just a short walk around the corner.
Great location.
Nice

Restaurant meal wasn’t enough ! Had vege stack!
Big room friendly staff
The lift wasn't working
We had a good experience in the restaurant - the food was basic but well-presented and well cooked. Dinner and breakfast were both good with friendly service. The rest of the hotel is, however, a problem. Again, the floor our rooms were in had been renovated, so no complaint there. The first two floors were, however, dowdy with the strangest and worst artwork (it looked like a year 12 art class had been let loose) I have ever seen in a hotel. It is a beautiful building in the exterior and parts of the interior and deserves better. I had recommended it to my colleague from another part of New Zealand and I was embarrassed to be there. We were given a meeting room with a really ugly sculpture of Fiddler on the Roof in soldered metal. It had gross pictures on the toilet doors of the mens' and womens' toilets of people urinating (styalized) - really bad taste - paint them please! This is a hotel that could be classy that has been let go - hopefully it can recover some of its former mana.
Good location, clean, comfortable
Couldn’t get the tv to work, internet kept dropping out
Nice clean room, nice meal, great staff BUT The newly renovated walls are not built properly our next door neighbours snoored until about 4 pm, then started talking , and their radio came on at 4.30 am they were still talking at 8.30 when we left, we were going to leave at 5 am and drive back to chch Everything else was great except this issue.
Very thin walls, not built with a proper sound proof system, and I'm sure other have said this.
The room was very spacious, excellent furnishings, big bathroom although didnt need all that room. Great there is a carpark for those staying in and others visiting the restaurant. Also awesome there is a heat pump in the room.
1. The lift was out the first night and I have bad knees and wanted to go to the restaurant and have a look around but as i was on the 2nd floor, I decided not to go. 2. I thought the restaurant downstairs kitchen was open from early in the morning and then onwards but it closed at 9am. So had to seek breakfast elsewhere. Although everything is close by, did not realise that and the main reason I chose The Grosvenor was for the restaurant and easy access to the restaurant. I then realised you could order breakfast to be delivered by room service but I wanted the experience of eating out (not moaning, just letting you know others may experience that same issue re breakfast downstairs).
Everything. Loved our lady in restaurant. Amazing service. Most amazing food.
Location was excellent
BARMAN IN THE PUB WAS A GREAT, HELPFUL GUY.
BATHROOM AMENITIES CHEAP.
Perfect location, bathroom was clean and well stocked! Bed was comfy and a good section of lights!!!
There were not enough hooks so there was nowhere to hang jackets, or clothes, no soap dish in the shower, and my Dad's room there was someone plaster on the floor! (Ewww) Building works were interesting but finished at a decent time, despite being very loud and sweary on our arrival!
Nicely renovated
Upgraded room on second floor. Warm reception and easy checkin. restaurant on site served pensioner meals , tasted very good. Quiet at night
Lift is historic. Renovations ongoing but did not upset our stay
Great location with excellent staff. Early check-in wasn’t an issue.
The walls between rooms are pretty thin…
Very clean, pleasant decor
TV services
The whole ambiance of the hotel was lovely
We’re happy with staying anywhere that makes up feel welcome and comfortable
Great location, in downtown. Nice room and comfortable bed. Lovely big bathroom. There's a pub in the hotel where I had a great meal, and great service. It's a quirky place, with an old fashioned lift with the gate that comes across. Parking right across the street (although it's not secure parking.)
It's an old building, and some of it is updated, and the room was certainly updated nicely, but the lobby, hallways and stairs, etc show the building's age. I guess I was expecting more character? Thin walls meant my neighbour kept me up talking loudly on a call. Only stayed one night as was just passing through.
Very good for Hotel accom 😃
Nothing. Very good
It was very pleasant
No wifi
A grand old hotel being restored to former glory. Food was amazing Staff understand the importance of hospitality by greeting guests with genuine interest in them. The hotel has an atmosphere of history yet modern touches bring a unique sense of the now. Parking freely available

Fantastic stay! Large comfortable room in a grand old building. Had a great meal in the bar downstairs. The staff couldn’t have been more helpful. Highly recommend
Great location. Clean modern room. Friendly staff.
Good Location
The staff
Lovely newly refurbished room, bed was very comfortable and bathroom was nice. We arrived late evening so no one was at reception but there were clear instructions on how to check in and the person on the phone was very helpful.
Staff we very friendly and helpful
Double bed
Newly renovated rooms were modern and lovely and clean.
Our room looked onto the roof but we arrived late and were leaving early so really didn’t matter.
We were placed in room 101 the same room Queen Elizabeth stayed in during her New Zealand visit in 1954. The hotel is close to the cbd and the restaurant is welcoming and served nice pub style meals.
I don’t think this room has had too much work done on it since the Queens visit. Please be aware that what you book through booking.com is not necessarily what you get. After reserving a modern refurbished room we were placed in an old room that clearly needed updating. It was dirty and had a stale smell. I’ve since found out this hotel allows pet dogs so I’m not sure if this room has occupied animals. The receptionist apologised for us not getting a modern room but gave no explanation why.
Great location, clean and tidy

Cleanliness and location
Not may features, slow internet, scary lift, etc. But the room was worth for the price and good for one night stay.
Tried to change 200$ bond
Good location, easy access good parking, very comfortable bed.
It has been up graded but parts were done cheaply and it shows. Parts of the old hotel are very tired looking.
Clean, room small but tastefully modernized. Great location , with very handy restaurant as part of the building. I would definitely stay there again. Beautiful church singing Sunday morning.
