The cost of breakfast from the buffet was expensive - I had muesli, yoghurt and fruit and paid $40. Perhaps an option for cereal only at a lower price is warranted.

Went down for dinner (had a baby with us) and the restuarant was not very full yet we were told that we couldn't be served for at least 1.5hours as the kitchen was very busy. We ordered in UBER eats which was a bit disappointing. Maybe they were short of kitchen staff but not sure what the issue was.

We liked everything about the property, location and the staff.

Received a call in my room from reception at 8.40pm on Monday 24th advising I had been given the wrong room. When I originally booked online I asked if I could have a firm bed due to my back issues. When I asked Ayla person at the front desk about my request, Ayla said all the beds were the same, then she said she would get me towels to lay on the bed under the sheets that this would help. Not sure where she got that from but I tried it anyway and it didn't work. Thankfully the phone call resolved my worst fears of how I was going to sleep that night. Paris from the front desk apologised for the inconvenience she came up with the trolley and helped me move to the room with the firm bed. Paris was extremely helpful and apologetic. You need more staff like her at the front desk of the Distinction Hotel Dunedin Paris has a welcoming smile and shows empathy. When I saw Paris at the front desk the following day it was lovely to see her and her lovely smile. Told my family of 70 who were also booked in the hotel of how fortunate I had been to have someone like Paris to acknowledge the mistake and resolve it. They were also very appreciative of Paris's support.

When my family and I arrived there were 70 of us coming off the bus and car rental. Totally understand that so many people at one time would have been a little overwhelming for some of the staff . I'm assuming this is why front desk person Ayla smile did not reach her eyes. Since she didn't look at the notes for the booking first and said all beds were the same,

Absolutely excellent breakfast. Nothing missing from what was offered in the buffet. So many extras. Easy walk to the Octagon and activities nearby.

Everything! This is the absolute best hotel I have ever stayed at. This will now be the only hotel that I will book with while in Dunedin. I literally could not fault anything

The location is great with short walks to the town centre and the waterfront. The room was large and the shower and bed were excellent. Staff were very friendly and efficient- typical Kiwi friendliness at reception.

Bedroom was very cold, draft coming from windows so we kept curtains closed most of the time even in the daytime which was a shame. Usually in other hotels of a similar ilk, usual to have body wash in the shower. Consider creating a small outside seating area.

Not so fussed on the coffee offer at breakfast but appreciate that's a difficult one to sort-time/maybe more staff etc. Nothing major though.

We drove from Queenstown to Dunedin (well worth it by the way) and our good fortune continued with our arrival at a gem of a hotel, Distinction Dunedin (DD). Firstly, there is a massive car park next to the hotel and with seemingly limited parking immediately outside of it, it makes perfect sense to pay the modest fee to use it. It was a spacious room and we were super pleased to find an efficient washing machine in it. The bed was great, as was the shower and it was super quiet, as to be fair, was most of Dunedin. Dunedin is a small city, but one with impressive architecture that harks back to a different time, we particularly appreciated the number of shopfronts that had stained glass windows. In addition, effort has been put into restoring older buildings and it was quite a treat to see. We visited the Otago Farmers' Market and thought it was pretty good. Our best meal was brunch at The Corner Store on Stuart Street, seriously nice food, good coffee and it was very difficult to not sample something from an impressive array of pastries. Dinner at Etrusco at the Savoy was lovely, where an older building has been tastefully renovated and was very popular on the Friday night we ate there. All up, I can heartily recommend DD and forgot to mention that the downstairs restaurant also does a good coffee if you are in a rush.

Beds are comfortable, We had a lovely meal at the restaurant. Very handy to all the locations we went to. Nice decor. The staff were very friendly and accommodating.

Excellent location - easy walk to all attractions and in an interesting heritage area. Very clean warm and well serviced room with useful kitchenette with toaster kettle and microwave.

Situated in the heart of the city , so everything was close. The hotel facilities were superb. It was very convenient having a washing machine and dryer in our room. The staff were very helpful. The carpark was located across from the hotel but was easy to access

Only negative was no extraction fan in the bathroom so the mirror fogged up. A small " first eorld" problem.

Great Location and very comfortable spacious room for a family of four.

I loved the fact that we didnt have to go anywhere for our meals or a drink. It was lovely and peaceful and warm. Great idea having a washing machine and dryer to use, and that the washing powder was provided

The bed did have a obvious dip in it and even though the washer and dryer was awesome to have it wouldn't spin the clothes dry. Also the bubble bath did not bubble at all.

The hotel and the rooms are old and not very clean . The AC is very loud . The corridors are difficult to navigate

Great Building, location etc.

Only thing that lets it down is all the big daylight "Disks" lighting throughout cafe / reception. Light colour (Cool / Daylight) clashes with the rest of the decor and makes dining feel like you're in an Office / warehouse with fluorescent lighting. Otherwise all good.

This is just delightful. Modernised old building with a history. That history feels maintained. .

Dinner Menu could be more diverse. More vegetable choices. Bar menu and cocktails could be improved.

Great space, location and service was excellent. Gym facilities are comprehensive.

Hotel Parking option was very expensive. Plus looked pretty empty for the entire 5 day stay. No bath or swimming/spa.
