Reviewed Sep 16, 2026Great location close to waterfront, restaurants etc. Enjoyed being outside of Wellington and seeing a new part of the area. Close to ferry to Picton. My car was loaded up with stuff and I liked having onsite free parking. Manager is really nice and helpful.

Cracked crockery, freezer box full of ice, stayed 6 nights & got freshly stained linen each day. Shower had sticky tray & mould growing around the tray (yuck). Room was caked in dust, really thick dust on cupboard tops & skirting boards. Not value for money.

Reviewed Jun 26, 2026Excellent location, bus stop right outside and being so centrally located you can explore Jackson street with ease. The staff were a delight and the facilities were more than adequate. My family lives in Petone and I was nervous about noise over the weekend - it is just far away enough to not hear the noise of people out and about on a Friday/Saturday night.
Honestly, I’d be stretched to find an answer. It’s a great little spot.

I had made an early check-in time and asked for a room near the entrance by their parking lot and those requests were cheerfully granted. The room was very clean and inviting, very homey. The room was quiet and I heard very little to no noise from outside or other rooms. There were well-placed electrical outlets for charging and using my phone and laptop. There is a guest laundry that was just perfect for my needs. The motel is just two blocks away from the main street in Petone, with its restaurants and shops. But not too close to the main street that street noise and traffic would be heard. It was very quiet in my room. During the day, I noticed a staff member was outside trimming the greenery, keeping the parking lot clean and tidy. I always stay here when I visit Wellington and I wish all motels in Aotearoa New Zealand were as clean, quiet, and updated as Ava Lodge!
The only thing I didn't like was that I could not stay longer!

The room was spacious and spotless and had good quality glassware and crockery. Bed and pillows were very comfortable and the balcony was a great size to relax on.
